  • How Green is the 2015 Skoda Superb GreenLine?

Let’s say it right away. The latest ŠKODA Superb is extremely efficient when it comes to fuel consumption. Especially the GreenLine lineup which will be presented to the public for the first time at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The vehicles come with really impressive fuel consumption, measured at 3.7 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions of 95 g/km for the hatchback version. Furthermore, ŠKODA team ensures us that with one fill at the petrol station you can go for more than 1780 kilometers. Interesting, isn’t it?

The ŠKODA Superb GreenLine 1.6-TDI/119 hp (88 kW) comes with manual gearbox, Start/Stop engine system and brake energy recovery as standard features. Furthermore, owners of GreenLine models will be granted with additional goodies like longer gear ratios and SCR (Selective Catalyctic Reduction).

But the ‘green’ engine is not the only thing that makes the latest Superb model so appealing. The vehicle also comes with some aerodynamic changes and overall style upgrades. The chassis is with 15 mm lower than the standard Superb model and the vehicle features a tailgate spoiler. And the engineers have done some additional improvements for the drag coefficient: the Superb GreenLine now achieves a total of 0.263 and the Combi GreenLine goes for 0.275.

And the GreenLine version is now offered with ‘Active’, ‘Ambition’ and ‘Style’ subversions. As you know, since 2008, the GreenLine idea has been one of the most important for ŠKODA and its models.

So, it appears to me that ŠKODA’s path is defined: eco-friendly ideas and numerous changes in order to deliver high quality components and comfort. But will it be that good, we are about to find out.

There is a new addition to the Skoda Octavia range. It’s the GreenLine hatch – an 88.3 mpg and 85 g/km (CO2) car that still manages to pull off 110 PS.

The main culprit behind these impressive figures is the 1.6 TDI CR diesel engine. It’s managed by a Start-Stop system which comes as standard on all third-generation Octavia cars anyway. The GreenLine however, comes also with a set of uniquely styled low-resistance wheels. 16-inch in diameter, these alloys go by the name of “Velorum”. The intended tire pressure for the GreenLine is a bit higher than usual in in order to reduce the friction surface area on the road.

Other technological highlights include regenerative braking and front fog lights as standard. Visual treats: GreenLine badges on the front grille and rear hatchback. The gearstick inside also reads GreenLine.

The Octavia GreenLine is now officially on sale in the UK and is priced at £20,150 or about $33,118

  • Skoda Fabia Greenline II – 2006 km on a single tank of fuel

Skoda Fabia GreenLine II has achieved 2006km (yes, two thousand and six), which is 1246 miles on a single tank of fuel. The driver was Gerhard Plattner, who started in Reutte, Austria, Plattner drove to Bov, Denmark and back. The Austria-based economy driving world champion used Germany’s longest motorway, the A7, for his trip from Austria to Denmark and back.

The fuel consumption is just amazing – 127.8 mpg – 2.2 liters / 100km (although the official consumption figure is 83.1 mpg (combined cycle).

“We work hard to reduce the fuel consumption in our vehicles. The primary goal of these efforts is to offer efficient technology in all of our models at affordable prices, and our second-generation GreenLine models meet this requirement perfectly. The Fabia GreenLine is going to show what can be achieved by combining refined technology with economy driving.”, commented Dr. Eckhard Scholz, head of technical development for Skoda Auto.

The trip was supervised by the International Police Motor Corporation (IPMC) who also sealed the fuel tank before Plattner set out from Reutte.

“The Škoda GreenLine models are perfect for fuel-efficient driving. In light of the current fuel prices, not only is that important for one’s own wallet, but also for lowering environmental pollution. With a fuel consumption well below the specified norm, I want to show that besides the car manufacturers, every driver can contribute to further reduce this environmental pollution. It already starts with small details such as the proper tyre pressure.”, Gerhard Plattner finished.

The new Fabia GreenLine II is powered by a 1.2 litre TDI diesel with 75bhp and is fitted with technological advancements such as a Stop/start system, gear change recommendation, and energy recuperation, improving economy and lowering CO2 emissions even further.

With these systems, the small hatch emits just 89 g/km CO2, with a combined fuel economy of 83.1 mpg making it the most economical Skoda ever!
