The new Seat Leon is now available in 4Drive all-wheel-drive version. With the complement of the ST 4Drive versions, the Spanish producers successful range now extends its offer with new models equipped with all-wheel drive.

The new Leon ST 4Drive offers a modern, electronically controlled Haldex clutch system that provides maximum grip on even the most irreconcilable roads. In normal operation, the clutch sends most of the engine power to the front wheels, but when traction suffers, the torque is deflected to the rear as well. The electronic control system is added to bring more safety and dynamics in all driving situations.

The AWD system works in sync with the four-wheel EDS dynamic control system consisting of electronic differential locks on both axles. The XDS (extended electronic differential lock) provides better traction while cornering. There is also an electronic stability program (ESP) as well as multi-collision brake system for maximum safety. These innovations make the car one of the most versatile and safe in its class.

“With its new all-wheel drive, the Leon ST 4Drive proves that expressive design, thrilling sporting character and exceptional everyday usability do not have to be mutually exclusive. The 4Drive will build on the success of the new Leon family,” says Jürgen Stackmann, President of SEAT S.A.

There are two engines in the range: a 1.6 liter TDI and a 2.0 liter TDI with 105 hp (78kw) and 150 hp (111kw), respectively. The smaller is able to average 4.5 liters / 100 km (52.2 mpg US), while the more powerful unit needs 4.8 liters / 100 km (49 mph US). Both are connected with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The 2.0 TDI model runs from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.7 seconds, while the 1.6 TDI does it in 12 seconds. Top speed is rated at 211 km/h (131 mph) for the 2.0TDI and 187 km/h (116 mph) for the 1.6TDI.

An interesting fact is that the both power units are from a very latest  generation of TDI engines, with intelligent thermal management and reduced friction, and also feature a reduced emission rate of only 124 g/km for the 2.0TDI model, and 119 h/km for the 1.6TDI.

The Seat Leon ST 4Drive will be sold in two trim levels – Style for the both engines and FR for the 2.0TDI.

Standard equipment includes: seven airbags, tire pressure sensor, hill hold control, Isofix and Top Tether anchoring points in the rear for child seats, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, dual zone climate control, cornering fog lights, Media System Color car stereo, 16 inch alloy wheels, electric heated door mirrors and others.

In addition to the standard equipment, there is also a wide range of safety and comfort options available for the new SEAT Leon ST 4Drive. These include full LED headlamps, electric panoramic roof, light and rain sensors, front and rear parking sensors, the SEAT Sound System and the navigation system.

  • Seat Leon ST 4Drive Arriving Soon

Seat-Leon-ST-4Drive-shadowSeat-Leon-ST-4Drive-mediumToday the Vienna Autoshow kicked off for a 3-day run. To be honest, there isn’t much hype around it. Seat, however, are taking the opportunity to debut and showcase their up-and-coming Leon ST 4Drive. That last bit means permanent four-wheel drive.

Seat’s 4Drive setup is pretty much identical to VW’s 4MOTION system which we discussed last week: the same Haldex 5 coupling, EDS dynamic control, and an extended differential lock (XDS without the ‘+’). It’s only natural, really. Afterall, Volkswagen is the parent company, and the Leon and Golf do share the same platform.

There are two TDI engines (and nothing else) available with the AWD ST Leons. One is a 105 PS 1.6-liter unit, while the other – a 2.0-liter – boasts 150 PS. Both are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. With start/stop systems and braking-energy regeneration both engines sip the diesel rather than guzzle it. Yet, the 2.0 has a 0 to 60 mph time of 8,7 seconds. That’s pretty impressive if we don’t forget that we are talking about a 4.5 meter long station wagon with 587-liters of luggage space (put the rear seats down and that number becomes 1,470 liters).

Standard equipment on both engine choices will include Seat’s Media System Touch, air conditioning, and power windows and power wing mirrors. The Style trim (available again with both engines) adds things like 16-inch alloy wheels, Media System Touch Colour, a leather steering wheel and cruise control. The FR trim (2.0-liter only) reinforces the sporty character of the Leon ST 4Drive with a particularly powerful front and rear design, 17-inch alloy wheels and a sporty suspension.

No picture material available yet, but the 4Drive shouldn’t look any different from the standard ST.

  • 2014 Seat Leon ST [video]

Seat has published a video on Youtube with the recently introduced 2014 Leon ST, which is expected to hit the market later this year.

After the introducing of Skoda Octavia Combi and Volkswagen Golf VII Variant, Seat responded with the Leon ST which seems to have the best design. Of course, all of them share same suspension, engines and some other technical issues. The 2014 Leon ST boasts 587-liter cargo capacity, which is the smallest, but it can be expanded to 1,470 liters once the rear seats are folded. This is more than enough even, if you have some large luggage.

The engine range includes a 1.2 liter TSI with 86HP (63 kW) and 105HP (77 kW), a 1.8 liter TSI with 180HP (132 kW) for the FR model. The diesels are a 1.6 liter TDI with 90HP (66 kW) and an FR-exclusive 2.0 TDI producing 184 HP (135 kW).

Seat UK has confirmed the Leon ST will be offered in a right-hand drive as well as a four-wheel drive variant with the 4Motion system borrowed from the Golf VII Variant 4Motion, of course.

Seat has announced the new 2014 Leon ST, which which now comprises five-door hatchback, three-door SC and five-door ST estate.

2014 Seat Leon ST boasts a 587-litre boot, and with the rear seats folded flat its load capacity extends to 1,470 litres. It has the same wheelbase as the 5-door hatchback but the rear overhang has grown by 270mm to offer more luggage space. The additional length has increased weight to 1,233 kg (2,718 lbs), so it is 45 kg heavier than the 5-door model, but still the “lightest estate in its class.”

    The engine range includes a 1.2 liter TSI with 86HP (63 kW) and 105HP (77 kW). There is also a 1.4 liter TSI with either 122HP (90 kW) or 140HP (103 kW). The FR model is powered by a 1.8 liter TSI with 180HP (132 kW) and 250Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The diesel line-up includes a 1.6 liter TDI with 90HP (66 kW) and 230Nm (170 lb-ft) and a 2.0 liter TDI with 150HP (110 kW). The FR diesel has 2.0 TDI with 184HP (135 kW) and 380Nm (280 lb-ft).

And with the debut of the Leon ST, SEAT is expanding the extensive line-up of hi-tech options already available with the model, introducing Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) damper adjustment, and Progressive Steering.

The optional Dynamic Pack, including DCC and Progressive Steering, enables a high degree of control under sporty driving conditions.

When it comes to driver assistance and infotainment solutions, the new SEAT Leon ST is fully up-to-the-minute. Safety technology includes Multi-Collision Brake, Tiredness Recognition and Lane Assist, while the SEAT Easy Connect infotainment operating system is an intuitive way of controlling entertainment and communication. Easy Connect includes a standard colour touch-screen and full Bluetooth phone and music connectivity.
