  • Say Last Goodbye to Scion Brand [w/video]

Scion Transitions to ToyotaYes, it is over for Scion brand, since it is already official that it is going to transition to Toyota. Below you can hear the Jim Lentz, founding vice president of Scion and now CEO of Toyota Motor North America, who tells the details about it and how he feels as an establisher of the brand.

Scion was founded in 2003 as a laboratory only, which aimed at exploring new products and processes in order to attract young customers. Sadly, after 13 years the brand is transitioning back to Toyota, and the reason for this is that Scion “has already achieved its goals” of developing unique products and bringing in youthful customers.

For this mount of time, the brand managed to sell more than a million cars, and an interesting fact is that 70 percent of them were purchased by customers new to Toyota and 50 percent of them were under 35 years old.

Lentz also said that this decision was made in “response to customers’ needs”, since younger people look for a combination of fun-to-drive vehicle with good looks and more practicality. And since Toyota has evolved, it now offers cars with more dynamic styling and handling.

Because of the transition of the brand, which will happen in August this year, all 2017 model year vehicles will be rebadged as Toyotas. This means that the FR-S sports car, iA sedan and iM 5-door hatchback will eventually become Toyotas. There will be a final release series edition of the tC sports coupe, which will end production in August as well. The C-HR Concept, which we have shown you in November and which debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show, will be a part of the Toyota line-up.

If you own a Scion and worry about the service and repair process, you will be unaffected by this change as you will continue visiting Toyota dealerships’ service departments.

Scion has had some amazing products that we will definitely going to miss. But we are looking forward to see all of the benefits that the brand has brought through the years in new Toyota models.

  • What’s new from Scion? Have a Glimpse at iM Hatchback and iA Sedan

2015 NYIAS Scion iA TeaserIn New York Scion will show two new models from the “i” specification, the iM five-door hatchback and the iA sedan. And if you wonder about the letter “i” in these cars, well, just have some imagination. For example it can stand for individuality, intriguing, inetersting, intelligent and (easy on customers’) income.

In addition, the “A” in the sedan stands for the accommodating trunk and the aggressive styling that are imbued in the car, while the “M” is nothing else but modern style and multi-faceted utilization.

As mentioned already the hatchback has five doors and judging from what was revealed so far it will offer optimum versatility, sporty features and looks, and hence a driving experience that is fun and dedicated. Although young people are not that keen on sedans, Scion said that the iA is design to appeal exactly this group of people.

Therefore, we expect to see it with exciting styling and engaging driving dynamics. Actually, knowing that this is a Scion car, there is no doubt that it will cover these requirements. What we forgot to tell you is that this model will be also more practical, so its users can benefit from a lot of characteristics.

The new Scions will be introduced in New York on 31st of March. The cars are an example of the evolution of the brand, so we are really excited and can’t wait to see what they really stand for.

  • Scion iM Concept is an Edgy Auris Debuting in L.A.

Scion-iM-Concept-THUMBDo you remember when Scion teased its future iM Concept. Well, the news (and pictures) we received, give more information on what we are to expect debuting at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 19th of November. The company told us that the iM concept vehicle is a reflection of the evolution of company’s design philosophy which aims to catch the attention of youthful customers. And we were right with the assumption that the car will be a sporty hatchback based on Toyota’s Auris.

Precisely, the concept is a five-door compact hatchback with sporty looks. It is obvious that these visual characteristics were inspired by the vehicles seen on the European touring car racing circuit. The concept has unique styling with edgy, geometric grille inserts, deep air intakes and fog lights.

Take a look at his incredible exterior color. We sincerely hope that when we see it in L.A. it will look as vibrant as on these renders. This custom-blended “Incrediblue” paint is complemented by matte silver and gunmetal accents.

In addition, the car features wide aerodynamics and a lower ride height. Having in mind that it Carries in its heart the performance spirit, it is no surprise that it rides on 19-inch forged alloy wheels and sporty performance tires. What complete the racecar-influenced design are the vented front rotors and 4-piston calipers which work with the adjustable height racing suspension.

Scion iM Concept is the first hatchback in brand’s history. There are no details on what engine will it include: whether it will use Auris turbocharged engine, or will there be any new surprises. So we have to wait until next Wednesday to get the whole picture.

  • Scion Teases a Sporty iM Concept

Scion-iM-Concept-Teaser-THUMBScion iM Concept is one of the vehicles which we will see having a world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show. For this occasion, the brand has released two teaser images that show the future star of the brand. On the photos we see the iM Concept car taking some test shots. They reveal distinctively sporty front end and exactly this has been taken to the spotlight. Scion says that the iM concept vehicle is a reflection of the evolution of company’s design philosophy which aims to catch the attention of youthful customers.

It will probably be a hot hatchback judging form the sporty compact appearance. In fact, rumors say that two new models will be introduced next year. One of these cars will be based on Toyota’s Auris hatchback. Looking at the front of the concept, particularly at the headlights and front grille, in the teaser image, it definitely looks like that this will be a derivative of the Auris.

Form the released images we also see that car will be running on aggressive low-profile tyres wrapped around sporty-looking wheels and featuring drilled brake rotors. If Scion iM is a hatchback as we suppose, than it will be the firs one for the brand.

Another thing coming in question is whether this vehicle will use Auris turbocharged engine, or will there be any new surprises. Another possibility for the iM concept is that it can actually be a model which will replace the-soon-to-be-discontinued xB.

Unfortunately, ahead of the official release date, which is 19th of November, we don’t expect to get more details from Scion. So we have to wait until then to solve the mystery.
