  • 2016 Maybach S-Class: Soon a Fact in the U.S.

2016 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is going on sale in the United States very soon. Since the car was introduced for the first time, everyone is eagerly awaiting to hear its pricing. The Europeans got their and now it is time for the people living in the U.S. to get the opportunity of owning the luxury icon. Maybach S-Class stands atop of the Mercedes-Benz model range, because it has numerous exclusive details which highlight its “ambition” to lead. These are not only luxury-enhancing features, but also all of the technological benefits of the S-Class.

The highly-anticipated vehicle will have its market launch in April. This exceptional addition to the lineup has more than 8 inches in length when compared to the S-Class. In addition, it features a suite of intelligent safety technologies and exclusive appointments that round-out the abundant package.

As a matter of fact, Mercedes-Maybach is not just a model, but it is also a second sub-brand for Mercedes. It was created for those willing to achieve the maximum. One of the main features in these models is that they have unique interior appointments and extensive individualization options that are unparalleled.

Maybach S600 is driven by a V12 bi-turbo engine. With a displacement of 5980 cc, it produces more than 523 hp (385 kW) and a maximum torque of 829 Nm (612 lb-ft) available from 1900 rpm.

The luxury model can also show-off with the fact that it is the quietest car in the world. Its level of wind noise is very low and even surpasses levels found in the S-Class Coupe. Standard equipment includes a Driver Assistance Package with Intelligent Drive, the popular (from the ads) MAGIC BODY CONTROL, Night View Assist PLUS, a Warmth and Comfort Package with a heated windshield and Head-Up Display.  Other features at no additional cost are the LED Intelligent Lighting and Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System, Executive Rear Seat Package, Rear Seat Entertainment System and the Air Balance Package.

2016 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has a starting price of $189,350 USD and is arriving in U.S. dealerships in April.

  • Prior-Design Releases New Styling Kit for Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222

This Mercedes is a true masterpiece of the tuning craftsmanship. The tuners at Prior-Design have made the appearance of the new Mercedes-Benz-S-Class series even more dominant and elegant, and sportier! They have developed an exclusive body kit dubbed PD800S for the flagship model. As a matter of fact, this conversion will probably lift the company onto the elitist Mount Olympus of the Mercedes tuners.

Starting with the front of the model, it features an entirely new bumper with powerful air inlets and a front spoiler lip. Both were made of carbon. We also see LED daylight driving lights and carbon air outlets attached to the front mudguards.

At the sides, a set of carbon fiber side sills connects the front and rear. While the back of the vehicle features new carbon rear apron as well as rear flap spoiler made of the same material. To make the design even more harmonious, the tuners gifted the Mercedes new shoes to run with.

The new exterior design is supported via brand new redesigned interior. Every square centimetre of the cabin was wrapped with a mix of crocodile leather, alcantara and quilted nappa leather. These materials have been combined with refined root wood pattern, which is a little reminiscent of the comfort of an American cigar lounge.

Perfection to the last detail is the motto of the designers. This means that even the boot was made better. The boot was wrapped in crocodile and smooth leather, while the lid of it – was coated in leather from the inside.

  • Mansory Crafts a 1000 HP Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG S63

mansory-mercedes-benz-s-class-amg-s63The latest tuning of Mansory that we recall is this on the Rolls-Royce Ghost II and it was amazing and very beautiful. This one is not as versatile in colors and styling but in terms of power – it is definitely mind-blowing. This time the tuning attention was paid to Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG S63. Of course, to support the boost in power, the sporty elegance of the Mercedes was enhanced via a special aerodynamic programme.

The latter comprises of several styling and aero components such as a front spoiler with adapted LED daytime running lights, the new bonnet and the new roof and rear lips. The rear apron was designed in a diffuser look.

The sporty appearance was further strengthened with new side skirts and widened front wings as well as the carbon housing of the rear-view mirror. In addition, Mansory’s sports exhaust is responsible for a throaty and imposing sound. The back of the car is entirely redesigned. The rear silencer is made from stainless steel with its angular twin tailpipes.

Speaking of performance, the eight cylinder twin turbo engine of the AMG S63 received some tweaks such as high performance components. In accordance with client’s wish the tuners provide choice of two upgrades for the powerplant.

The first one is called M800 variant and it helps the unit produce a total of 800 hp (588 kW) at 4,750 rpm. The torque grows to 1,200 Nm (886 lb-ft) at 1,700 – 3,500 rpm. If you wonder about how the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h has changed, well, it was reduced to 3.6 seconds (production version: 4.0 seconds).

Next, the M1000 performance kit comprises of connecting rods, big end bearings, crankshaft, bearing bushings, turbocharger, suction and compressor system. Together with the new pipe fan manifolds they help the engine produce instead of 585 hp (430 kW) an impressive 1,000 hp (735 kW). The maximum torque has climbed to 1,400 Nm (1033 lb-ft) at 1,500 – 3,500 rpm. So when fired up, the saloon rockets to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds on its way to an electronically regulated 300 km/h.

All this power has to be transmitted onto the road with the appropriate tyres. Here, the tuners have developed one-piece 22 inch Multispoke alloy wheels that were fitted with Vredestein tyres in size 255/30/ZR22 on the front axle and 295/25/ZR22 on the rear axle.

The cabin received only minor updates such as aluminium pedals and newly designed steering wheel. There are also new foot mats, framed in leather with embroidered Mansory emblem, as well as the illuminated door sill trims.

  • Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-in Hybrid Wins Environmental Certificate

The Mercedes-Benz Plug-in hybrids are said to be able to give customers a unique experience while driving around the city in all-electric mode or cruising on a long journey somewhere else and taking advantage of the combustion engine’s range. The significant environmental computability of The Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-in Hybrid makes the car a representation of a balanced pleasure of driving and a high-quality performance. Now, this high environmental compatibility has been confirmed by the inspectors and specialists at the TÜV Süd technical inspection authority. As a result, Mercedes-Benz S 500 becomes the first Mercedes-Benz plug-in Hybrid which has received the Environmental Certificate in accordance with ISO standard TR 14062.

The Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a V6 biturbo petrol engine and an electric motor. It offers a system output of 333 hp (245 kW), while the motor – 116 hp (85 kW). When you sum this up, it makes 442 hp (325 kW) and 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque in total. Yet, despite this powerful performance, the hybrid can move and travel over 20-miles on purely electrical power.

All three hybrid S-Class vehicles have environmental certificates which state the cars’ environmental performance from development through to recycling, across the entire lifecycle. Furthermore, the performance is certified to internationally recognized standards by independent experts. Regarding CO2 emissions, the certificate of the S 500 Plug-in Hybrid points out:

“Over the entire lifecycle, comprising manufacture, use over 300,000 kilometers [186,411 miles] and recycling, clear advantages result compared with the S 500. External charging with the European electricity mix can cut CO2 emissions by some 43 percent (35 tonnes). Through the use of renewably generated hydroelectricity a 56 percent reduction (46 tonnes) is possible.”

  • Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman [leak images]

Telegraaf has published several leak images of the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman. The super-luxurious limousine will be the top-of-range model and will obviously substitute the famous Maybach models. The model dates from February 2013, when the German manufacturer has registered the drawings in the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The Pullman model is practically a stretched S-Class with an overall length of whopping 6.4 meters (252“), which is longer than the large Maybach 62 (6.2 meters). The new Mercedes-Benz limousine will have a 2+2+2 seating arrangement with the four rear seats facing each other. They will be separated from the front ones by a privacy glass.

Of course, an armored version is also planned. It will carry presidents and prime-ministers as well as wealthy businessmen. The armored Pullman will be at least 5,300 kg (11,684 lbs). As you may suggest, the upcoming armored Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman will have a price tag of $1,270,000.

The all-new S-Class Pullman will be introduced sometime in 2015. Mercedes-Benz is also planning an extra-long wheelbase in the face of S-Class Maybach, but this is not official. Other interesting model which can face production is an S-Class Cabriolet based on the recently unveiled S-Class Coupe.

    Stay tuned for more!

  • 2014 Smart ForTwo vs 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class – Crash Test

Here is a very interesting video featuring the new 2014 Smart ForTwo and the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class. They are involved in a head-collision crash test proving that the small car, which is half of the weight of the big saloon is just as safe as the S-Class.

2014 Smart ForTwo is even more safe than the legal requirements. In some points in terms of safety, the small city car exceeds the Euro NCAP regulations. This was demonstrated by a recent in-house offset crash against a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The impact speed is 50 km/h with 50 % overlap and the Smart offers its two passengers an intact occupant space and excellent chances of survival.

After all, the new Smart ForTwo has undergone the same development programme as, for example, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Daimler’s 75 years of safety expertise and smart’s 21 years of expertise in building small cars have gone into the safety concept of the new smart generation.

You can see, how the main frame of the 2014 Smart ForTwo is virtually intact and the doors can be opened without additional devices used in heavily crashed vehicles.

Of course, the new Smart doesn’t have so much crumple zones as the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan, but still offers impressive passenger protection.

  • Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe – Curve Control System

Mercedes-Benz has revealed more details about their new Curve Control System on the all-new S-Class Coupe. This driving experience becomes even more exclusive with the curve tilting function, a world first for series production cars: the vehicle leans into bends in a similar way to motorcyclists or skiers.

Curve Control System allows the vehicle to incline into the automatically and continuously in fractions of a second – depending on the bend radius and vehicle speed. The subjectively perceived effect is even greater, as the vehicle would normally lean outwards. This happens, when the base points of the steel springs integrated into the ABC suspension struts are raised by plunger cyclinders on one side of the vehicle, and lowered on the other, depending on the bend being negotiated.

This innovative system recognises bends with the help of the stereo camera behind the windscreen, which registers the curve in the road surface up to 15 metres ahead, and using an additional lateral acceleration sensor in the ABC suspension. The curve inclination function can be selected using the three-stage ABC switch, and in “Curve” mode is active in a speed range of 15 to 180 km/h. The other selectable modes are “Comfort” (Magic Body Control with Road Surface Scan) and “Sport”.

The new function is available in combination with the Magic Body Control suspension system for the rear-wheel drive models, which can be ordered from 14 July. In combination with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the S-Class Coupe features the full Airmatic air suspension system with the adaptive damping system ADS Plus, in a version with a sporty setup in keeping with the character of the vehicle.

There is a new fashion in car industry to create Coupe-Cabriolets, which is very successful, but the hardcore fans of Cabriolets still appreciate to cloth roof rather than metal. • Prior Design Black Edition V2 Widebody Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221

Prior-Design-V2-Widebody-Kit-Black-Edition-Mercedes-Benz-S-Class-W221-shadowPrior-Design-V2-Widebody-Kit-Black-Edition-Mercedes-Benz-S-Class-W221-mediumFor around $9.434 you can have the complexly named Prior Design Black Edition V2 widebody aerodynamic kit on a Mercedes S-Class (the old W221 Merc). It’s black (duh), road-sweapingly low, and kind of aggressive. Just look at the space – or rather the lack of it – between the tires and the wheel arches (that space, by the way, is called the dead cat hole). To be honest, though, the freakishly big wheels are not mentioned in the brochure so that might add a few more dollars to the total bill.

What is included in the package, then, are the body panels that form the V2 kit. That means a front bumper, a front lip spoiler that goes on said bumper, side skirts, a rear bumper, a rear diffuser, front fenders and rear flaring wheel arches, a hood, mesh grille inserts and a trunk lid spoiler.

The parts are, as usual, made up of FRP which is a type of fancy plastic (carbon reinforce, apparently). It’s basically the other spelling of “expensive”. But, hey, it looks okay…ish. If you are the type of person who binge watches all the Fast And Furious movies, this might just be thing for you
