  • RUF Bergmeister

RUF Automobile GmbH, manufacturer of exclusive and authentic high-performance sports cars, reveals two special vehicles at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week. Project RBS, or “Bergmeister,” makes its world debut alongside the naturally aspirated SCR, which is being seen for the first time in North America.

The never-before-seen Bergmeister is inspired by the legendary Porsche 906, the 909 Bergspyder and the 718 RS 60 Spyder hillclimb cars and was designed by Tony Hatter. Mounted in the rear is a dry sump, RUF-engineered, air-cooled 3.6-liter single-turbocharged flat-six engine producing 450 bhp and 442 lb-ft of torque, connected to a six-speed manual transmission.

The Bergmeister all-carbon skinned roadster combines the best of classic design and modern engineering in a package ready to master both road and track. True to RUF’s heritage, the pursuit of the perfect driving experience has never been more visceral. Black Alcantara lines the entire interior and the driver sits in bucket seats, with an Alcantara-clad steering wheel rounding out the driving experience. With its direct steering, the Bergmeister responds to the slightest wheel input and ensures precise handling.

“When we began building our own automobiles in 1974 it was all for the thrill of the drive,” said Alois Ruf, owner of RUF Automobile GmbH. “We are honored to be featured at The Quail and to celebrate the passion for driving with our friends. Bergmeister embodies the most elemental driving experience, while the SCR highlights the latest technology offerings from our team in Pfaffenhausen.”

Alongside Bergmeister and debuting in North America for the first time, the newly developed SCR prototype carries much of the same DNA as the 1978 original dressed in a modern package using RUF’s latest technology and engineering. The carbon-fiber monocoque and bodywork deliver maximum strength with minimum weight, while an integrated roll cage and rear space frame provide rigidity.

The iconic SCR build is designed as a state-of-the-art sports car for those who prefer the soundtrack of a naturally aspirated engine. The consistent light-weight construction and powerful engine result in the feeling of a racecar built for the street. The 4.0-liter flat-six produces 510 bhp at 8,270 RPM and 346 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, giving the car the optimal mechanical feel.

  • 2013 RUF 3800S based on Porsche Boxster or Cayman

The tuning specialists from RUF has presented their updated 3800S program for Porsche Boxster and Cayman at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The 3800S boosts the 3.8 liter flat-six engine to 420HP (309 kW) at 7,400RPM and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque at 5,600RPM. The power is put on the road through a double-clutch gearbox and RWD.

Other higlights include a complete aggressive body kit including a new front bumper, a modified rear bumper with updated rear diffuser and glossy 5-spoke black alloy wheels fitted with low-profile performance tires.

Because RUF installs many of their own-made parts instead of simply badge engineering, the company is recognised as a manufacturer by the German government.

RUF has introduced a new third generation CTR 3 coming with a number upgrades. 2012 RUF CTR3 boasts a longer wheelbase and a new mid-engine position.

The mid-engine design provides exceptional balance and agile handling, while the longer wheelbase provides better driving stability at high speeds. The body of the CTR 3 is a completely new development which is not based on any existing mid-engine concept.

2012 RUF CTR3 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8 liter flat-six with whopping 750PS (552 kW) at 7100RPM and 960Nm (708 lb-ft) of torque at just 4000RPM. This is an improvement with 50PS (37 kW) and over the first CTR3.

The engine is mated to a sequential-shift 6-speed transmission, which is transversely mounted and has a new design, too. It can manage torque up to 855 ft/lbs. A shift indicator on the dashboard shows the gear in use. A limited slip differential is provided to maximize the traction. The performance is “acceptable” – 3.2 seconds to 100 km/h, 9.6 seconds to 200 km/h and top speed of 380 km/h (236 mph).

The brake system includes 6-piston fixed light alloy calipers and ventilated, cross drilled ceramic composite discs. Each brake disc is 380 mm in diameter. A specially designed Bosch anti-lock braking system is standard.

2012 RUF CTR3 stands on forged aluminum wheels fitted with 255/35/ZR19 tires at the front and enormous 335/30/ZR20 at the rear. The dimensions of the alloys are 8.5J x 19” and 12.5J x 20”, respectively.

The interior boasts aluminum gearshift lever for the sequential shift transmission, 260 mph (418 km/h) speedometer, leather and Alcantara.

The weight of the car is just 1400kg (3 086 lbs).
