  • Rolls-Royce Phantom: A new expression

2023 Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II - Front Angle

“Phantom occupies an unrivalled position at the very apex of the luxury world. As our pinnacle product, it represents the very best of Rolls-Royce design, engineering and craftsmanship – a perfect blend of vision, creativity, the finest materials, skill, patience and precision. With Phantom Series II, we have retained and carefully protected everything our clients love about this superlative and luxurious item; subtle, yet meaningful enhancements reflect their evolving tastes and requirements.

“Phantom has always been viewed as the ‘best car in the world’: our Bespoke capabilities mean that, for our clients, it can be the best car for their world, too.”
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars

Rolls-Royce products enjoy an expansive lifetime, ultimately becoming timeless expressions of good taste, beauty and luxurious perfection. Phantom occupies a unique, pinnacle position in this regard, being revered for its timeless elegance.

The eighth-generation of Phantom was presented in 2017. In creating the new expression, Rolls-Royce designers and engineers have been guided by the requests of clients, who have implored Rolls-Royce not to make any major changes to an already iconic motor car. In answer to these client demands, only the lightest of design touches, embellishments, and adaptations have been incorporated. Indeed, it is not about what should be changed, but in fact, what should be preserved and protected.

    A NEW EXPRESSION

The most obvious and important feature to be retained is Phantom’s commanding presence. This has been further enhanced by a new polished horizontal line between the daytime running lights above the Pantheon Grille. This gives Phantom a new and assertive modernity, reflecting its driver-focused character.

A subtle geometric change to the Pantheon Grille makes the ‘RR’ Badge of Honour and Spirit of Ecstasy mascot more prominent when viewed from the front. The grille itself is now illuminated, a feature debuted and popularised in Ghost. The headlights are graced with intricate laser-cut bezel starlights, creating a visual connection with the Starlight Headliner inside, and adding further surprise and delight to Phantom’s night-time presence.

Phantom’s side profile retains Rolls-Royce’s signature short front and long rear overhang, long wheelbase and broad c-pillar, the latter giving greater privacy for occupants. The silhouette preserves the elegant key lines running from the Spirit of Ecstasy to the tapering rear tail. The ‘split-belt’ line begins at the front fender and curves gently towards the rear door, emphasising the car’s long dash-to-axle proportions, before falling gently towards the lantern-like rear lamps. The heavily undercut ‘waft line’ creates a strong shadow, visually signalling the marque’s unequalled ‘Magic Carpet Ride’.

The side profile is further enhanced with a suite of new wheels. A 3D, milled, stainless steel wheel with triangular facets is available to commission in a fully or part-polished finish. Alternatively, Phantom may be graced with a truly elegant disc wheel, recalling the romance of 1920’s Rolls-Royce motor cars. This disc wheel is produced in both polished stainless steel and black lacquer, perfectly encapsulating the sense of flight on land.

Responding to Phantom clients who have previously requested a darkened chrome grille surround, black bonnet reins, windscreen surround and side frame finishers, these may now be commissioned. This aesthetic now enables Rolls-Royce to transform Phantom into the lightest of light or the darkest of dark appearances.

Phantom’s sumptuous interior remains almost unaltered: the steering wheel has been made slightly thicker, providing a more connected and immediate point of contact for the owner-driver.

Phantom and Phantom Extended have distinct characters of their own, representing two different seats of power. Phantom is now predominantly favoured by the ever-increasing number of clients wishing to be in the driving seat themselves. For those preferring to command the road from the rear seat, Phantom Extended offers the definitive super-luxurious chauffeur-driven experience.

    ROLLS-ROYCE CONNECTED

Now, Phantom includes the debut of ‘Rolls-Royce Connected’. This enables the owner to send an address directly to the motor car from Whispers, the Rolls-Royce private-members’ Application, providing seamless navigation to an event, restaurant, dealership or even the Home of Rolls-Royce itself.

‘Rolls-Royce Connected’ also displays the motor car’s location, security status and current ‘health’ condition on Whispers; at the touch of a button, the owner can contact a preferred dealership for any servicing requirements or information about the car.

    THE ‘POLES OF LUXURY’

As the marque’s pinnacle product, Phantom attracts an elite stratum of Rolls-Royce clients. Established and successful, at the top of their field and often in the public eye, these are determined and demanding people. It is no coincidence that Phantom attracts the most ambitious and challenging Bespoke commissions ever undertaken by Rolls-Royce.

The resulting creations − each an artistic masterpiece in its own right − illustrate a broader truth: since its inception, Phantom has always been whatever the client wants it to be; not only the ‘best car in the world’, but the best car for them and their world.

Self-evidently, there is no such thing as a ‘typical’ Phantom client. Spanning the ‘poles of luxury’, they may be ever-younger or older, modern or traditional, self-made or from long-established wealth. Their commissions reflect a full spectrum of interests and influences. At one extreme, Phantom takes on a subversive, almost rebellious character – youthful, dynamic and daring. At the other, Phantom transforms into an ode to luxury grandeur and timelessness.

The challenge of the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective is to accommodate this vast expanse of client characteristics and desires in one pinnacle product. The eighth-generation Phantom has thus been deliberately designed to offer a ‘blank canvas’ for Bespoke personalisation, capable of becoming whatever the client wishes it to be, and a true reflection of their individual style and character.

Phantom’s great strength and appeal is that it allows clients to position themselves anywhere between these ‘poles of luxury’, defining luxury on their own terms. And wherever that point happens to lie, they have the assurance that Phantom itself is − technically, materially, aesthetically and dynamically − still the ‘best car in the world’.

PHANTOM PLATINO: THE RETURN OF FINE TEXTILES

To mark the introduction of Phantom Series II and to illustrate Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke capability, the marque has created a new Bespoke masterpiece, Phantom Platino, named after the silver-white finish of the coveted and precious metal, platinum.

Phantom Platino continues Rolls-Royce’s exploration into fabric interiors, a story which began in 2015 with the launch of Serenity, a truly Bespoke Phantom with a hand-painted, hand-embroidered silk interior. Heralding the next step in this significant journey, Phantom Platino introduces materials other than leather, an area of exploration for Rolls-Royce and a move that demonstrates a greater acceptance of alternative interior upholsteries.

Echoing the marque’s formative days, the front seats of Phantom Platino are finished in fine Rolls-Royce leather, while those in the rear are upholstered in fabric.

The beautiful tone-on-tone of Platino’s interior is achieved by combining two differing fabrics; one created in an Italian mill for its durable yet luxurious appearance, the other derived from bamboo fibres, selected for its lustrous finish.

Both materials share an original repeating pattern based on an abstract interpretation of the Spirit of Ecstasy. In the silken textile, the design is smaller and woven into the fabric to create a more visually stimulating finish. It also appears in Phantom’s Gallery, right in the occupant’s line of sight, and on key touchpoints such as the armrest and centre console. The bamboo fabric is embroidered with larger icons, presenting a tufted appearance commonly found in interior design. This more resilient material is placed on the lower elements of the interior where they will need to withstand most contact.

The same design also appears on Phantom’s dashboard timepiece. The surround is made from a 3D printed ceramic, a truly contemporary execution of a traditional material. Set into an iced finish woodset, the tonal properties of the interior take Phantom to a beautiful and unsurpassed level of opulence.

The largest canvas in Phantom is the Starlight Headliner. In a unique design created especially for Rolls-Royce Platino, the ‘stars’ are placed to draw the eye rearwards, with whimsical shooting stars following the sweeping arc of the pattern.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, says, “We are acutely conscious of our clients’ esteem for and love of their Phantoms. They felt it could not be improved; but while naturally respecting that view, we believe it is always possible, indeed necessary, to gently go further in our pursuit of absolute perfection.

“The subtle changes we have made for the new Phantom Series II have all been minutely considered and meticulously executed. As Sir Henry Royce himself said: ‘Small things make perfection, but perfection is no small thing’.”

  • Vilner team revives a special Rolls-Royce. Check it out!

2018 Vilner Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead CoupeWe do know that Rolls-Royce machines are still the only symbol of luxury and refinement. However, the arch enemy of all that is beautiful and enduring manages to harm even the pinnacle of motorsport industry. Yes, we are talking about time. Time has managed to prove that Rolls-Royce is the king, but has also proven that even kings tend to get rusty and fragile at time to time. And this is why Vilner’s latest project circulates around a 10-year-old Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.

2018 Vilner Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

Trying to preserve and revive the wooden inserts and fine-leather covers, Vilner team has done tons of work in the cockpit – tens of square meters of fine leather has found its new place in the cabin, along with small details as stitching and adding more functionality. Now, the new leather cover manages to work better with the heating and ventilating of the seats. Cool!

2018 Vilner Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

In fact, the design team has spent the majority of time for the wooden components. Every single wooden part has been unmounted, triple varnished and polished until shiny. And only then it was once again mounted to the cabin. And what has managed to impress us even further is the rear part of the cabin – the place where the folding roof is actually hidden, when not used.

In terms of exterior styling, Vilner’s client has chosen the Cherry burst cover. Part of the 44, 000 combination choices, the owner has decided to retain the vehicle elegant and stylish. And as you think about it, there is something even British in this color scheme. And because of this choice, Vilner has installed Cherry burst seatbelts. Sweet.

The final verdict? The sexy Rolls-Royce will continue to bring joy and pleasure to the driver and passengers for many more years. Thanks to Vilner!

This is a nice way for Rolls-Royce to say farewell to the entire Phantom range, because it will be discontinued in its current form by the end of this year. But don’t worry because the next-generation is scheduled for appearance in 2018.

2016 Rolls-Royce Bengala Automotive and Vitesse Audessus ProjectOne of the most popular premium design house, Bengala Automotive and the US-based Vitesse AuDessus have launched a special carbon-fiber program for contemporary Rolls-Royce vehicles. Sweet.

What is so special about this project is that there will be only few lucky units from the Phantom, Wraith, Dawn and Ghost lineups that will benefit from the lightweight body procedures. In fact, the vehicles will be geared with special carbon matrix, similar to the Forged Carbon Fiber, created by Lamborghini and Callaway. As you may know, this kind of fabric allows some neat aesthetics, combined with numerous aerodynamic and performance improvements. Cool, right?

2016 Rolls-Royce Bengala Automotive and Vitesse Audessus Project

What will also be included is the forged carbon fiber wheels. They are lighter and denser than titanium and do come with vast advantage over their metal alloy brothers. These forged wheels are also quicker to manufacture and it is even possible to make a full and functional set in minutes!

Rolls-Royce Phantom Zenith Collection first pictureRolls-Royce Phantom Zenith Collection celebrates two of the end of the production of most exclusive and celebrated luxury vehicles: the Phantom Drophead Coupé and the Phantom Coupé. The bespoke collection has been conceived with the aim to create the best examples ever of those two models, thus making them collectors’ pieces. Only 50 units will be produced and of course, they have already been commissioned.

The Bespoke design team at Rolls-Royce has considered every possible detail to create the perfect examples. Literally. An instance is how the split-tailgate has been improved with the addition of an engineered companion to a perfect touring day’s picnic. Precisely, the picture below, shows how a glass shelf, housed within the rear section of the tailgate can be effortlessly used in terms of serving Champagne. There is no question whether the team added a champagne fridge. It is actually large enough to hold two standard bottles and eight Rolls-Royce glasses.

These include laser etching to the armrest cappings, showing locations of the global debut of the experimental version of each car.

Everything is in the details. The central fascia drawer has been utilized to house a priceless unique identification number. Further grabbing the attention are the cupholders, machined from aluminium.

Note that at the front the speedometer has great design, featuring brushed steel. What is more the interior trim scheme uses light leather colour for the front seats and darker for the rear. At last, the Starlight Headliner has been given a subtle Bespoke treatment to reflect this.

The exterior makes emphasis on the contrast with the two exterior colors: the Madeira Red and Jubilee Silver Phantom Coupé. More defined contrast can be made via Midnight Blue and Artic White.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé and Phantom Coupés are currently in the making. 2016 will be their final year of production, making a total of seven generations since the birth of the model. Still, if you are extremely fast, there might be a chance of commissioning one of the very last examples.

  • Jade Pearl Rolls-Royce Phantom is One-Off and Truly Original

Jade Pearl Rolls-Royce Phantom Exterior The current Rolls-Royce Phantom you see is a Bespoke creation and it is literally one-off. The ultra-luxurious car has been specifically created for its owner, Mr. Michael Fux. The company revealed little details about the vehicle, and just posted several pictures of the ultimate Phantom. From what we can tell, this Rolls-Royce features unusual combination of colors, especially when it comes to the interior.

But if the name Michael Fux seems familiar to you, we should remind you that this lucky person has already ordered a stunning Bespoke Wraith, which was revealed in the summer last year. Just like the Phantom here, the one-off Wraith featured unique styling. However, unlike the white exterior of the Phantom, the Wraith has Aqeuus Green and Cornish White exterior finish, enhanced by discreet Jade Pearl accents.

SEE ALSO: This Rolls-Royce Phantom is Inspired by Sunrise

The similarities are inside where the luxurious cabin is decided in vivid Jade Pearl design theme. Everything inside is drenched in Jade Pearl… or green. Literally. Even the smallest details: from steering wheel and floor-carpets to the speakers, instrument dials, vents and rear view mirror casing. Of course, the car has been too personalized with the name of its owner.

    Jade Pearl Rolls-Royce Phantom Interior

In terms of power Rolls-Royce did not made any changes, or spoke of such. Therefore, the Phantom is just like the other Phantoms in the range, meaning that it is driven by the V12 engine. The unit generates 453 horsepower (338 kW) and 719 Nm (531 lb-ft) of maximum torque. This makes it enough for the bespoke car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h).

Would you change anything in this project and if you had the chance to order a Bespoke Rolls-Royce, which one would it be and what color would you select?

  • This Rolls-Royce Phantom is Inspired by Sunrise

Rolls-Royce Sunrise Phantom Extended Wheelbase Side ViewRolls-Royce has published at their official Facebook page unique Phantom, which has a paint finish inspired by sunrise. As a matter of fact, if you haven’t witnessed a sunrise recently, you might think that this is another Barbie car. However, it just happened that I have experienced one of the most inspiring pink-imbued sunrises ever.

Basically you have to imagine how versatile the sun could make the sky and then you will get the idea behind this unique paint finish. By the way, the car is based on an extended wheelbase version of the Phantom and features some pain-striking design elements that we also have to look at.

SEE ALSO: 2016 Rolls-Royce Dawn Strives For Perfection. And it Reaches it.

First, the exterior finish of this Phantom has been taken to a new level. The paintwork has been designed to pick up the sun’s rays throughout the day, producing a subtle yet striking sparkle. This means that the golden and pink tones in the paint shimmer in different hues depending on the position of the sun throughout the day or the artificial light source. One experiences various colors throughout the day, tracking the course and intensity of the sun. How cool is that?

Rolls-Royce Sunrise Phantom Extended Wheelbase Interior

How about the interior? Well, it is as exclusive as the exterior and features nothing less than exceptional craftsmanship. First, the glowing interior includes Sunrise leather upholstery accentuated by Dark Spice accents. The occupants immediately sink into luxurious leather seating, as they watch the last rays of sunlight. In addition, the wood interior also adds a golden inlaid Spirit of Ecstasy.

In terms of power nothing has been changed. Just like the other Phantoms this one is driven by the V12 engine which produces 453 horsepower (338 kW) and 719 Nm (531 lb-ft) of maximum torque. This makes it enough for the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h).

  • Rolls-Royce Puts Phantom In The Limelight

Rolls Royce Phantom Limelight Side ViewRolls-Royce has released the latest Bespoke Phantom Collection called “Limelight”. The name is inspired by the “limelight effect” which was discovered in the 1820s by Sir Goldsworthy Gurney and is now associated not only with the invention but also with fame. This effect has changed illumination in the theatres around the world, because it has been used to highlight leading actors on the stage. And this where the phrase “in the limelight” comes from.

To go into details, the car has been equipped with the so called “Phantom Suite”. It comprises of one-off rear door panniers and luxury seating configuration. Therefore, inside the Phantom there is such an inviting atmosphere which suggests relaxing in the ultimate luxury.

In addition, the personalized rear door pannier has been designed according customer’s taste. The Ladies’ and Gentleman’s panniers for instance are not only suited to best serve the gender preferences, but also to be personalized to suit one’s possessions for a specific occasion.

On the other hand, the Gentlemen’s pannier can hold watches. The designers have added also a special pocket that is perfect for credit cards, business cards, etc.

To ensure the optimum relaxing time in the rear, the designers have used the professional opinion of physicians in order to create the seat that invites the best seat position that relaxes the body most whilst in motion. As a result, Rolls-Royce now debuts the newly developed rear seat.

What is so special about the seats? First, the seat back reclines the body by a recommended 27 degrees. This helps rest the head on the headrest cushion. Additionally, when the body is lowered down, there is a new calf rest which raises electrically by 68° to support the calf. At the same time, the foot rest pops out and raises the feet up to 30°.

Adding to the luxury feel are the Light contrast scheme in the interior as well as the Seashell with Navy Blue Contrast Leather and Seashell tone-on-tone stitching. On the other hand, the Dark contrast scheme uses the Navy Blue color with Seashell Contrast Leather and Navy tone-on-tone stitching.

  • Rolls Royce Phantom Al-Adiyat is Inspired by Equestrian Power

If you think that Rolls-Royce is that old-fashioned automaker that changes nothing, well you’d be wrong. At least in term of the way it is communicating its news. For a long time now the company is using its official facbook page to announce special edition models like the one we are going to review. What we have at hand is a beautiful Phantom Coupe, styled in “Al-Adiyat” theme.

In Arabic “Al-Adiyat” stands for the noise which a powerful horse makes when its hooves hit stone. What happens next is sparks flying. As a matter of fact, under this designation will not only stand this Phantom special edition, but it is intended to be a bespoke collection that adds nine Wraiths, too.

The vehicles in the Al-Adiyat collection share a design that is inspired by equestrian power. As you can see from the pictures, the car carries a passionate red exterior paint scheme, which is continued inside where it meets white.

The interior is also filled with motifs of reigns and horses that signify this special edition series. In addition, there is a gold-plated horseshoe stamps found on the clock and treadplates. The two-tone seats are accompanied by exquisite dark wood trim as well as red headliners.

Just like the other Phantoms this one will be driven by the V12 engine which produces 453 horsepower (338 kW) and 719 Nm (531 lb-ft) of maximum torque. This makes it enough for the car to be capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h). Like it?
