  • 2012 Renault Megane UK range – Pricing

Renault UK has announced the full price list of the Megane Range. The new 2012 models come with minor styling changes to freshen up their original lines – modified front end, LED daytime running lights, a gloss black bumper and a lot of sets of wheels.

In terms of line-up, from April, a new entry-level Expression+ welcomes the inclusion of Bluetooth™, USB connection and upgraded audio system to 4 x 20W radio CD with fingertip remote control and AUX input, on top of an already high equipment level: 16” alloys, air conditioning and front fog lights.

The top-of-the-range GT-Line TomTom also sees several new additions: auto parking brake with Hill Start Assist, parking camera with rear parking sensors, Arkamys 3D Sound 4x35W audio system – worth £760, but an OTR price only £270 greater than the previous range (dCi 160).

The interior comes with new trims including a leather pack available in a choice of two finishes in the UK. The personality of the specific GT-Line TomTom finishes has also been enhanced inside and out thanks to specific ‘boomerang’-shaped LED lights, visible red upholstery stitching and a sports steering wheel incorporating thumb rests, plus Renault Sport-badged door sill guards and dashboard trim strip, serving as a reminder that it belongs to the Renaultsport family. Last but not least, the list of body colours available for Mégane 2012 has been extended with the addition of Azzurro Blue and Arctic White.

The engine range includes a 1.2 TCe 115 petrol, 1.5 dCi 110 and the 1.6 dCi 130 diesel powered units. All feature Stop & Start technology, which are already available in the Scenic 2012 range.

    The new 1.2 TCe 115 retunrs up to 53.3 mpg on combined cycle and 119g/km CO2. The 1.5 dCi 110 gives class-leading 80.7 mpg and emits only 90 g/km CO2. The 1.6 dCi 130 boats 70.6 mpg and 104g/km CO2 emission.

The Megane range now features the Visio System camera, which improves night-time vision by permanently scanning the road ahead. Lane departure warning has also been added to Megane 2012.If lane markings are crossed without the indicators having been being activated (above 44 mph), visible and audible warnings are automatically activated

All radios are now equipped with Bluetooth hands-free telephony, connectivity and audio-streaming, as well as multi-functional TunePoint  and USB input which enable music stored on mobile devices to be controlled by the vehicle’s steering wheel-mounted fingertip control. Also available is Carminat TomTom® Live navigation (HD Traffic, real-time traffic information, etc.) on Expression+.

Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when pulling away on a slope, while lane change indicators warn other motorists when the driver is about to change lanes by flashing three times following a simple flick of the indicator stalk.

To assist parking manoeuvres, a rear parking cameraprovides a precise image of the vehicle’s immediate surroundings and depicts its trajectory to help drivers adjust their line. Last but not least, the dual-zone automatic climate control is now equipped with a quality sensor which monitors cabin air quality and automatically activates the air-recycling mode whenever necessary.

  • Twingo Renaultsport R2 Evo

Justin Dale and -driver Andrew Bargery will drive a Twingo Renaultsport R2 Evolution on the opening round of the 2012 MSA British Rally Championship. The race car is based on the successful 1.6 litre model, but it doesn’t have many familiarities. The road going car is entirely modified to meet all rally regulations.

Dale has already complimented the Twingo, having driven Pajunen’s car at a sponsor’s day last year and the R1 variant at this year’s BRC Media Day. He and Bargery will team up after last contesting the BRC in a Clio in 2006 to showcase the new Twingo R2 Evo, which will make its UK debut on the Dorset & Hampshire based event.

Renault UK’s recent registration to this year’s British Manufacturers Rally Championship and the new Twingo Renaultsport Trophy coupled with around a third of the entries on this year’s opening round, underlines the French marque’s commitment to UK rallying.

“We are keen to show off the new Evo version of the Twingo R2 and evaluate its performance on gravel. The British Rally Championship’s move to a two wheel drive formula is important to Renault and we intend to be at the forefront with our range of cars,” commented Renault Sport Technologies Sales Manager Jean-Pascal Jocou, who will attend the event to keep an eye on not only Dale’s progress, but all the Renault competitors.

Rallye Sunseeker International starts on Poole Quay on Friday 24th February at 18.00hrs with stages throughout Saturday in the forests north of Bournemouth.

  • Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider

Renault has announced the special Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider, which is a limited series of the famous hot hatchback. It comes with a lot of extra equipment over the standard Renaultsport version on which it is based. Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider will be limited to just 50 cars specially for the UK market.

The car is finished in either matt Stealth Grey or Diavolo Red. The main colour is contrasted by a gloss black finish to the roof, rear spoiler, F1-style front blade, rear diffuser and door mirrors.  This gloss black finish is also applied to the 18” ‘Interlagos’ alloy wheels

The rims are wrapped in Bridgestone RE 050A tyres, as used on the record-breaking Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy.

Naturally, the acclaimed Cup chassis is standard featuring a lower ride height, stiffer springs and dampers, quicker steering ratio and red finish to the Brembo brake callipers.  The exterior finish is rounded off by extra-tinted rear side and tailgate windows and a Raider badge.

The interior boasts leather Recaro seats, zinc grey finish to the centre console and fascia inserts. There are also a white rev counter, bluetooth, USB connectivity, automatic climate control and Renaultsport carpet mats.

A numbered plate identifies the number in the 50 production run. The Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider will be available to order from the end of October. Price list is not announced, yet!

  • Twingo Renaultsport R2

RenaultSport has announced a special version of Twingo. R2 Trophy will run alongside the MSA British Rally Championship, following each event across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man from 2012.

The car is based on the 133HP Twingo Renaultsport and is aimed at budget conscious buyers, coming in the form of motorsport kits featuring all the required parts.

“Renault Sport Technologies intensifies its presence in UK rallying and the creation of a Trophy for Twingo in R1 and R2 categories makes me very happy. The remarkable road holding abilities of Twingo Renaultsport 133 will help young rally drivers to compete in a national championship, at an affordable price.  This new trophy will reinforce the image of Renaultsport cars in the UK market which is extremely important for our brand and where Renault Sport Technologies has been enjoying a constant growth in the recent years.”, commented RENAULT Sport Technologies’ CEO, Patrice Ratti.

  • Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy Nurburgring Record – 8:07:97

Renault Sport has made it, again. The team has set a lap record for a front-wheel drive production car at the Nordschleife. The car is the well-known Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy, which crossed the finish line for just 8 minutes 7 seconds and 97”, which is a full 9 seconds faster than the lap record that has stood for three years.

Renaultsport 265 Trophy is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 litre petrol engine with staggering 265PS and 360Nm of torque available between 3000 and 5000RPM. The hot hatchback achieves impressive power-to-weight ratio of 191HP per tonne.

Laurent Hurgon, development driver, Renault Sport:

“The Nordschleife is a legendary course. Its length and layout, which is very different to that of a conventional circuit, make it a unique and technically demanding challenge. Its difficulties are extremely varied, ranging from fast and even very fast in places to much twistier and slower portions. Turns like ‘Karusell’ and ‘Pflanzgarten’, for example, make huge demands of the car and driver alike, yet Mégane Renaultsport Trophy is very much in its element here and feels particularly reassuring despite the uncompromising nature of the terrain. The limited slip differential allowed me to accelerate hard out of the countless turns without understeer. The carefully-tuned Cup chassis, the dampers, the fade-resistant brakes, the Recaro seats, the power of the 265hp engine, the ready availability of torque between 2,500 and 5,000rpm and the car’s Bridgestone RE 050A (235/35 R19) tyres allowed me to make the most of the car’s enormous potential, especially into and out of the corners. It is this package which enabled me to post such a quick time round this circuit which you must always approach with a certain degree of humility.”
