  • mcchip-dkr releases speedy 485 HP Porsche 991 Carrera S

mcchip-dkr Porsche 991 Carrera S view from above Let’s go astray from the Golf GTI hype and talk about the latest project of the tuners at mcchip-dkr. It is based on a Porsche 991 Carrera S, which is not the typical car one would see on a daily basis (unless they own it). Since, mcchip-dkr is well-known for chip tuning, there is no doubt that the Porsche would feature more horses than its stock ones. Precisely, the software adjustment and development were accomplished on a high-performance SuperFlow AWD dynamometer type SF880. But to objectively see the result, we should first make a comparison.

Basically, the Porsche 991 Carrera S 3.0 has a stock output measured at 420 HP (309 kW) and 678 Nm (500 ft.-lbs) of torque. On this basis have stepped the specialists, thus developing two software optimization stages.

The first level comprises only of “pure software”. The gains estimate 475 HP (349 kW) and 772 Nm (570 ft.-lbs.) of torque. The second level does feature software optimization as well as mcchip-dkr valve exhaust system with sport catalytic’s “made by Capristo”. The result is an output of 485 HP (357 kW) and 793 Nm (585 ft-lbs).

The changes however do not end here. The speedy Porsche is also equipped with something called PDK-transmission optimization. This means, the enforced up- or downshifting (kickdown) is deactivated, the up- and downshifting (+/-) works like the 991 GT3 and 991 Turbo. In addition, the maximum of the engine speed/RPM is enhances and there is faster gear shifting as well as a higher clutch pressure. At last, the KW-thread springs and the striking in-house vinyl design are there to be mentioned.

  • KTW Tuning Enhance The Porsche 991 Carrera S

    KTW-Porsche-Carrera-S-991-medium

The Porsche 991 (AKA the 911) – fifty years of history, pedigree and fine-tuning. Can it ever reach perfection? Is there such a thing as perfection? Okay, let’s not get too philosophical about it. After all, what’s good and what’s bad and what’s perfect is a very subjective point. That explains why KTW from Germany have taken up enhancing the Porsche Carrera S 991.

Rest assured, the Porsche’s 3.8-liter 400 hp has been left immaculate. In fact, all KTW did was to get their hands on a TECHART body kit and glue it on. In other words, a front lip spoiler, two side skirts, two wing mirror caps, a rear lip-like spoiler and a big anti-wing on top. Okey so there are also the Formula III 21-inch wheels which complete the picture .

Again a TECHART feature, is the noselift system which is supposed to eliminate that fear of scraping a speed hump. There’s also a custom made exhaust system with valve control.

KTW say that the interior too has undergone a lot of changes – the steering wheel, the seats, the dashboard, the center console and many other. There is, however, nothing specific on these modifications. The seatbelts are red. Does that count?

  • SpeedART SP91-R Porsche 991 Carrera

SpeedArt-Porsche-991-Carrera-thumbNews from the German tuner house SpeedART. It’s an update on their SP91-R project. As we all know by now, the subject is the latest 911/991 Carrera S (Porsche is sort of their turf) – fresh yet grunty, slippery and stylish it has all there is to have when it comes to performance customization.

When it comes to power, ECU upgrades and calibration are to be available for both the Carrera and Carrera S engines – that means a projected power increase of 25 hp and 20 Nm. On the other hand. the sport exhaust system, complete with sport-catalysts and manifolds, seems to do the trick. One can fit an optional sound switch function so that, at the very least, people can be fooled into thinking that 911 is even meaner and leaner. The tailpipes come in several different versions so that the owner is presented with as much flexibility of choice as possible. Hardcore enthusiasts will most definitely prefer the Titanium sport exhaust system which reduces the overall weight.

The suspension can be both street or racetrack friendly. It will harbour sports springs and sports absorbers with adjustable rebound and height. A separate air-lift module on the other hand will provide some clearance for that dragging SP91-R body kit when passing over a speed hump.

Yes, there will be a full body overhaul – front lip spoilers, diffusers, side skirts, rear wings… the lot. Everything is made to fit perfectly and seamlessly to the standard mounts.

For a complete look, the Carrera rolls on a set of specially designed modular LSC- FORGED 21-inch wheels – again light and agile, great for the overall performance.

Inside, what e find particularity fresh is the lime shades. The blue, contrasting stitching and the diamond patterns it forms, might be a bit too much but everything else is spot on – leather/Alcantra on the seats, dashboard etc. It’s a keeper.

  • 2012 Geneva Motor Show: Gemballa GT Porsche 991 Carrera

Gemballa-GT-Porsche-991-Carrera-thumbGemballa do not think that the latest Porsche 991 Carrera needs a performance boost. After all, it has a 340hp 3.4 liter flat six power plant that provides an electric enough feel. And if there is anything that can get close to the mighty GT3, it’s the Carrera S version that has a 3.8 liter, 400hp engine. What I’m trying to say is that the latest “designpackage” from Gemballa for the Carrera is strictly visual. At this point we have a few aerodynamic features, new wheels and a sonorous arrangement (exhaust pipes).

Gemballa CEO, Andreas Schwarz, explains: “Creating an even more individual appearance for this iconic sports car is a natural step for Gemballa, and we are proud to present our GT package for the new Carrera.”

The body kit consists of “made in Germany” type carbon fitments – a front bumper, a rear one and some side skirts. Everything is designed to fit perfectly to the standard mounting points of the car. Installing them requires no cutting or grinding so the return to stock components is quite feasible.

Gemballa have also provided four 21-inch wheels that are just a little bit lighter than the standard 19-inch ones on the Carrera and quite a lot lighter than the 20-inch set on the Carrera S.

“Lowering the unsprung weight despite going up a wheel size was a priority,” said Schwarz.

Eventually, we reach a point where we have to talk about pipes. About all six of them. The Gemballa exhaust system helps the engine with the breathing and the singing.

  • TechART and the New Porsche 911

TechArt-Porsche-Carrera-thumbLast week it was Vorsteiner who announced a Geneva Porsche Carrera and now we’ve got news from TechArt. They also have a program for the 911 but this one seems to be having a bad case of jaundice. Being that yellow, the car is certain to be noticed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It would be like staring into the sun. Just don’t squint your eyes too much or you won’t be able to see what’s new.

The TechArt 911 has a unique front bumper with an integrated splitter and two fins on the lower air intakes that probably don’t do much but they look cool. At the back, there seems to be too much downforce oriented features – a fixed rear spoiler, a rear wing, a diffuser? Other additions include the sideskirts, some new trim panels for the headlights and new mirror encasings.

Provided also are the TechArt Formula 5-spoke light alloy wheels in 20– and 21-inch sizes specially designed for the Carrera and Carrera S. Alternatively one can opt for the TechArt Formula III type of wheels which come in the same sizes. Either way, the 911 will be lighter and more dynamic when compared to a sibling with standard shoes. The five spokes on that particular Carrera are quite apart from each other and as a result we can see the callipers which are in what color?

All yellowishness aside, your hearing may also be provoked by the TechArt exhaust system that has remote valve control and dual oval pipes through which the car can sing its song.

The Carrera we have in our gallery will be at the show, but thankfully you can have the finish, inside and outside, custom made. Regardless of that, you get a lot of leather and Alcantra, carbon fiber, TechArt floor mats, TechArt steering wheel and paddle shifters. Let’s just hope, that there is some protective eyeware on the TechArt stand because my eyes are now hurting and I am not even close to the thing.
