  • HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI and Polo GTI Can Beat Porsche 911?

HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI and Polo GTI Front ViewHG-Motorsport must be very proud, because they have just released not one but two dynamic cars. The “double act” is represented via two Volkswagens, Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI and Polo 6C GTI, which have gained significant boosts in terms of power and torque. Some styling enhancements also complement their sportier nature. There is no wonder why the chosen cars were the GTI variants of the Golf from the seventh generation and the Polo 6C, isn’t it? So let’s review what has happened to those two.

    HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI

HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI Rear View

Defining the HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI is a sinister new appearance which hints that this car has more to show. Defined by exclusive graphics on the side doors, and red multi-spoke wheels, this car is capable of unbelievable heights. Just for a comparison, the standard motor under the hood produces 230 hp (170 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). Which is not bad, compared to the GTI-less specifications.

However, the untamed character of the tuners had to be transferred onto this Golf, and therefore they created an upgrade, which boosts these numbers to a mind-blowing 375 (276 kW) and 527 Nm (389 lb-ft) of torque. Now we can even compare this car to sports beasts like the Porsche 911, can’t we?

After the conversion, the seventh generation Golf can be compared to Porsche 911 with its 375 HP!

The question is how HG-Motorsport achieved an addition of 145 horses? There is a lot of work involved here. First, the production turbocharger has been substituted with larger one, just like the one found on the Golf R. Then, its potential was further boosted by a temperature lowering Double-DIN-intercooler. There is also an in-house made HF-Series carbon-fibre airbox, which aids the ram intake airflow.

The conversion does not finish here, because of the simple fact, that this addition of 145 hp, is not an easily achievable goal. The experts continued with the installation of Bull-X EWG 3.0-inch diameter downpipe, complemented by a Bull-X sound flap sports exhaust system. The latter actually features sports catalyst and R32-look carbon tailpipes.

These tailpipes add to the visual appearance of the car aided by a new custom rear apron. At last, in order to match the new optimized intake and exhaust hardware, the ECU’s remapped fuel and ignition as well as boost curves were also improved.

Better driving dynamics, ensuring that the additional power is well managed, were also achieved. Precisely, this is due to the installation of KW Variant 3 coil-over suspension with DCC. Furthermore, behind the multi-spoke red-coloured alloys we see new brakes up front. The uprated Golf GTI brake kit includes eight-pot fixed caliper front brakes with 356×32 mm floating discs.

    Onto the next car.

    HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Polo GTI

HG-Motorsport Volkswagen Polo GTI Rear View

The second car here is the Polo 6C GTI. Its production turbocharged 1.8 litre engine, generates 192 hp (141 kW) and 250 Nm (185 lb-ft) of maximum torque. Although the car is smaller and less potent, it has received almost the same upgrades like its bigger brother.

Here, the conversion has achieved an addition of 68 horses. In details, the kit for the power-boost comprises of HF-Series air-intake system and intercooler as well as Bull X-3.0-inch exhaust downpipe and sound flap exhaust. The latter features metal sports catalyst and … can you also spot the carbon-tipped twin tailpipes? Nice looking, aren’t they?

Here, the conversion has achieved an addition of 68 horses.

So, without ECU remapping, the car is capable of producing 212 hp (156 lb-ft) and 287 Nm (212 kW). But … after the specialists at SLS Tuning stepped in, the result is spectacular: 260 hp (191 lb-ft) with 350 Nm (258 kW) of torque. HG-Motorsport even confesses that the uprating had to be even more, but the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission imposed torque limitations.

At last, the sportier character of the mini fellow is strengthened via H&R Deep by K-Custom Polo GTI coil-over suspension kit. And can you spot that by this lowering the tires literally disappear behind the wheel arches? This is due to the Mücke Carbon wide-look wheel arches that have been specifically developed for this Polo.

And just like its big brother, the car runs on custom multi-spoke red wheels and features exclusive graphic elements on its sides.

Both cars are now ready for action, and judging by the number 57 on the back door window, we can soon expect of this tuned Golf 7 GTI to make significant achievements in the motorsport field.

  • 2015 Volkswagen Polo GTI Facelift is Almost as Good as the Polo R WRC

2015-Volkswagen-Polo-GTI-THUMB2015 Volkswagen Polo GTI has just been announced and it is intended to be launched only for the European customers. The car is the fourth generation compact GTI and comes with an output of 192 hp (141 kW), which is 12 hp more than its predecessor. In addition, the vehicle is also going to be available with manual gearbox again. The top speed of the new Polo GTI is estimated at 236 km/h. Interestingly enough this makes it 7 km/h shorter of the 220 hp (162 kW) Polo R WRC.

The option of automatic dual clutch gearbox is also available. Both transmission variants accelerate the Polo GTI from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. This is just 0.3 seconds more than the figure for the Polo R WRC.

In terms of fuel consumption the car shows 5.6 l/100 km and 129 g/km of CO2 emissions with the seven-speed DSG, and 6.0 litres and 139 g/km of CO2 with the six-speed manual variant. And here the Polo R WRC, which has a fuel consumption of 7.5 l/100 km is finally overtaken by the new Polo GTI.

The exterior of the facelifted Volkswagen car includes new bumpers, distinctively flared door sills, the GTI logo on the front wing and classic GTI insignia. LED headlights are available for the first time in the model.

The sporty appeal of the model is additionally improved by the set of new alloys that come in the size of 7.5×17 inches. Through them we see gleaming red brake callipers and standard sports suspension. At the back of the car we can’t pass the GTI roof spoiler, tail light clusters in ‘Dark Red’, the black grained diffuser and the chrome dual exhaust tailpipes.

GTI red accentuates the sporty design of the interior. For instance, the leather sports steering wheel has contrasting red stitching, as do the gear lever and handbrake lever, while the floor mats feature borders with red beading. The driver and occupants will enjoy height-adjustable heated sports seats with centre panels upholstered in exclusive ‘Clark’ cloth.

The infotainment systems offered here include Bluetooth audio streaming, a proximity sensor and two-finger map zooming in navigation mode. For the first time, Volkswagen is offering electronically adjustable dampers in the Polo GTI which are the core technology basis of the optional ‘Sport Select’ suspension.

  • Superchips ECU Volkswagen Polo GTI 1.4 TSI Twincharge

Superchips-ECU-Volkswagen-Polo-GTi-1-4-TSI-THUMBYou might be not familiar with the fact that Superchips is the official Volkswagen Racing Tuning Partner in the United Kingdom for more than ten years now. For this reason the company has upgraded a model from the Polo Line-up, boosting its performance with ECU remap.

The result is the Superchips ECU Volkswagen Polo GTI 1.4 TSI Twincharge.

Being a standard Polo model, this VW delivers an excellent combination of light weight, small size and an economical, 1.4-litre, direct injection, petrol turbo / supercharged twincharge engine. More importantly this engine delivers the 180 hp (132 kW).

However, now this clasic Volkswagen Polo GTI 180PS 1.4 TSI Twincharge has better performance due to the exceptional tuning from the Superchips specialists.

In particular, the Buckingham based electronics experts have named this tuning package “ECU remap”. In general, the Superchips ECU remap gives the Volkswagen Polo GTI 1.4 TSI twincharge a healthy torque boosted from 2400 rpm upwards, which in addition now offers a maximum gain of 35Nm at 4315 rpm.

Hence, the performance of the tuned car is now sportier, considerably livelier than the standard model, and significantly more responsive to the throttle.

  • VW Polo BlueGT

Volkswagen-Polo-BlueGT-thumbWhat happens when you cross mad lunacy with refinement and sensibility? Obviously and epic lovechild that has the best of both worlds. In our case that’s the VW Polo BlueGT (no, it’s not a sad GTI). It’s a super fun 140 PS Polo that has the looks and feel of a GTI and the metabolism of a BlueMotion. Today, on a stand at the Geneva Motor Show and within months, on to the European roads.

A system described as “ACT cylinder deactivation” is at the core of the BlueGT ideology. The second and third cylinders are automatically shut down within the 1,250 and 4,000 rpm. range and when torque output is between 25 and 100 Nm. If the driver decides to give it the beans, reactivation of the cylinders happens seamlessly in a matter of milliseconds but the dashboard will tell you nevertheless. That gives the 1.4 turbocharged, 140 PS engine the upper edge in fuel economy. Its combined cycle of fuel consumption amounts to 4.7 litres per 100 km (around 60 mpg). CO2 emissions equal to 108 g/km. Opt for the DSG transmission and you’ll get even more frugality. At the same time the top speed is at 210 kmh (130 mph) and zero to 62 mph takes 7.9 seconds.

For the styling of the BlueGT, Volkswagen have gone the “Frankinstain’s monster” way – GTI strains account for the front and rear bumpers, the rear spoiler, the instruments inside, the sports seasts and the leather steering wheel. The BlueGT is also 15 mm closer to the ground and sits on 17-inch multi-spoked alloys. The side sills and front windscreen rain channels, on the other hand, are from a Polo BlueMotion. This particular model is also the typical BlueMotion shade and the badges are all blue. Unlike the Frankinstain story however, the BlueGT might turn out to be a success rather than a tragedy. In fact, the BlueGT carries the first of Volkswagen‘s EA211 series of engines – a line that will underpin most of the models in the company’s production future.

Hopefully, shipments are going to start in July within mainland Europe. Whether there’s going to be a production for the UK, is still not announced.

  • Volkswagen Polo GTI Cup Edition

A racing car feel, but licensed for the road: the Polo GTI “Cup Edition” brings the look of the junior race series Polo to the road. In the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup talented young drivers take it to the race circuits with 150 PS. The turbo-charged Polo GTI “Cup Edition” is more than a match for that – its 180 PS make it the most powerful production Polo of all time.

Even the 110 kW (150 PS) standard specification Polo GTI is one of the fastest small compacts. Just a few months after its launch the designers and development engineers at Volkswagen Individual have gone one further both technically and optically.

The turbocharged five-valve four-cylinder engine has had its performance boosted to produce 132 kW (180 PS) from 1.8 litres and a maximum torque of 235 newton metres, already available at 2000 rpm. That puts the Polo GTI at the top of its segment – and makes it a dynamic thrill to drive. Not surprising with a power-weight ratio of just 6.6 kilograms per PS!

This engine propels the fastest Polo of all time to a maximum speed of 225 km/h and the “Cup Edition” accelerates from a zero to 100 km/h in only 7.5 seconds.

The standard Polo GTI is already distinguishable by its looks as an emphatically muscular version, but the striking design of the “Cup Edition” goes one better: roof spoiler designed by Volkswagen Individual, front and rear skirts taken virtually straight from the ADAC Polo Cup racing car and conspicuous side sills. The “Cup Edition” lettering on the tailgate provides the conclusive evidence of it racing pedigree.

Behind the large 7.5 J x 17-inch alloys which have the “Aristo” four-spoke design, there are uprated brakes with red calipers. Together with the wide 205/40 ZR 17 tyres they provide sports car braking performance. The typical GTI interior with luxury “Interlagos” sports seats remains the same as does the extensive safety package with ESP as standard.

The Polo GTI Cup Edition is available to order now as a two or four door version in the finishes Metallic Reflex Silver, Flash Red and Black Magic Pearl Effect starting from 22 425 euros.

  • VW Polo GTI

On October 19th Volkswagen will introduce the new Polo GTI during a world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show. With 110 kW / 150 hp it is the strongest Polo since the series was first introduced thirty years ago. The exterior and interior of the powerful compact deliberately bares a resemblance to the legendary Golf GTI. The Polo GTI will be available in select markets starting spring 2006. The price in Germany will be: Euro 18,950.

The GTI trade name is one of the best known brands in the automotive world. In 1998 the last GTI debuted in connection with the Polo. It was 125 hp strong and 205 km/h fast. Now 150 hp and a maximum speed of exactly 216 km/h are reached. Further cornerstones of the new Polo GTI: The 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 8.2 seconds, 229 Nm maximum torque (at 1,950 rpm) and 7.8 liter average fuel consumption.

Just as with the Golf GTI, Volkswagen has equipped the new Polo GTI with a turbo motor and intercooler. Because: if it says GTI it should have the real torque moment characteristic. The Polo GTI features a 1.8 liter five valve-four cylinder providing a potent push from the torque as well as excellent elasticity scores. On board the Polo GTI the fourth gear acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h takes a mere 7.5 seconds. Outside the Polo GTI as well, but it isn’t half as much fun.

    Volkswagen Polo GTI

It a fact that the new Polo GTI is a consistently sporty and safe automobile with extreme crisp driving features and a GTI specific exterior and interior. Look at the exterior: the front of the ‘little’ GTI displays the typical radiator grille theme of the ‘big’ GTI – black, v-shaped, upper air entry with honeycomb shaped protection grid. The dual headlights are cased in black, just like the standard equipped fog headlights in the outside air vents.

It is no secret that these GTI insignias work best with black, silver or white and most perfectly with red paint. Red are also the front and rear break calipers of the firm gripping wheel disk brakes. The 16 inch alloy wheels, in the style of the Golf GTI, with their five u-shaped openings, look like a stroboscope and make the calipers stand out – even at full speed. The wheels come in the format 205/45 R 16. The tires lunge deep into the wheelhouse; the sport chassis (with standard ESP) is 15 millimeters deeper than the standard derivate. Black side skirts visually underline the dynamic chassis design.

A self-confident rooftop spoiler (with integrated third break light) above the hatchback provides optimum propulsion ratings on the rear axle. Far below that is the chromed plated double exhaust pipe which really looks sharp.

The interior is also in the style of the GTI. As always, the new Polo GTI is equipped with special sport seats and the classic checkered design ‘Interlagos’. Sports steering wheel, gear shift knob and covering as well as the handbrake grip come in leather. A metal type surface visually and sensually enhances the middle console as well as the side vent openings in the cockpit. Fine points such as the red cross-seams on the interior of the steering wheel as well as the red edges of the otherwise black seatbelts show a great love to even the smallest details. The metal embossed shift scheme on the gear shift knob and aluminum foot pedals fit perfectly into the picture.

One doesn’t have to miss anything in the Polo GTI just because it’s sporty. As usual the operation is perfect, the quality high, the cargo area large (270 to 1,030 liters) and the rear bench flexible (1/3 to 2/3 including foldable seatback). Apart from the tried and tested chassis, a soothing level of passive security is also provided by the front and side airbags; the passenger airbag can be de-activated.

Volkswagen in Japan: The most successful importer for five consecutive years

The Polo GTI is highly anticipated by the Japanese Volkswagen dealers. Then entire series is extremely successful from Tokyo and Osaka. This holds true for the entire Volkswagen brand. Models such as the New Beetle and Golf GTI enjoy cult status. With the ‘Golf GTI Cup Japan’ Volkswagen Racing puts on its own racing series. In 2004, Volkswagen was the number one import brand for the fifth year in a row; nearly every fourth new foreign car in Japan was graced by the VW logo. With the brands Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Volkswagen, the Volkswagen AG represents the strongest automobile corporation among the importers.
