  • Opel Corsa Gets 150 hp Turbo Engine

Opel Corsa ECOTEC Turbo Front and Side View 2015 Corsa is getting a 150 horsepower 1.4 ECOTEC Turbo engine. The sporty new unit will be offered on both the three- and five-door variants. The result is better driving experience and performance. Besides the additional horsepower, the car receives more torque as well. Precisely it is measured at 220 Nm, which actually contributes to the 8.9 seconds acceleration time for the 0-100 km/h sprint. The top speed of 207 km/h speaks for itself. The unit is coupled with a six-speed transmission that drives the front wheels.

Although this engine is more powerful than the Corsa 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo with only 115 hp, it shows great efficiency. The car needs only 5.9 liters of fuel per 100 km. If you wonder about the CO2 emissions, they are 136 g/km.

In addition, this particular Corsa will be offered in two trim choices: the so called Color Edition and the INNOVATION. There is also a Turbo Plus Package that offers additional equipment which is similar to the OPC version of the car.

INNOVATION trim is all about luxury. It adds chrome window trim and door handles. The other features that are worth mentioning here are the bi-xenon headlamps, the LED daytime running lights as well as the automatic low beam lighting and the rain sensor for the wiper blades.

As mentioned there is a Turbo Plus Package available. It mimics the OPC car with front and rear spoiler lip, body-colored side sills and a roof spoiler. Two elements are made of carbon – the exterior mirrors and the grille. Inside there is a sports steering wheel, Recaro sport seats, gearshift knob and handbrake wrapped in black leather.

  • 2015 Opel Corsa Envisioned in a 5-door Variant

Pictures of the new Opel Corsa leaked well ahead of the car’s official debut and now an independent designer from Hungary named X-Tomi Design took a chance and rendered a five-door variant of it. Suggested as a five-door model, the car can’t be said to look too bad.

Even though the chances of an actual production are less than zero, the envisioned Opel Corsa with five doors seems to be a good option. It will be more practical and will definitely offer bigger convenience. The three – door car is a sort of a significant upgrade of the previous 2 – door Corsa and is considered to be a huge and innovative step. So, X-Tomi Design, your creation is unlikely to come to life.

Power for the on-going and existing 2015 Opel Corsa is provided by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, which generates 205 HP (150 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of maximum torque, between 1,900rpm and 5,800rpm. An overboost facility brings additional 35Nm of torque which ensures safer and smoother overtaking. Corsa VXR achieves 37.7mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 174g/km. Power is transmitted to the front wheels thanks to a second-generation six-speed transmission that has a short, fluid gearchange.

Finally, if customers are willing to spend more money, they can get the Corsa OPC with Performance Package which includes 330 mm front brakes by Brembo, 18-inch wheels with Michelin tires, and a mechanical multi-disc differential lock produced by Drexler.

  • Vauxhall Reveals Fourth-Generation Corsa

2015-Vauxhall-Corsa-THUMB2015 Vauxhall Corsa is the fourth-generation of the famous model which has been just revealed. The company has also announced that the new Corsa will reach production later this year. It will offer enhanced driveability, efficiency, comfort and practicality, and will be perfect for urban driving due to its compact exterior dimensions and clever use of cabin space. Although the fourth-gen model is almost identical in length to the current model, it retains its space utilization for occupants. Many changes have been made, and in fact nearly every other element of its design and engineering has been changed.

Precisely, every single body panel is new. The profile of the car has been overlaid with Brit Mark Adams’ sculptural design. It includes elements such as the ‘blade’ running across the lower door-sections. Inside, the new design can be seen on the instrument panel and dashboard.

New engine is the 1.0-litre three-cylinder ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo. It will be available with either 90 hp (66 kW) or 115 hp (85 kW) outputs, each of which achieves 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) of torque from 1,800rpm.

A new version of Vauxhall’s 1.4 turbo engine will also be included in the engine range. It generates 100 hp (74 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. Two naturally-aspirated petrol engines: 1.2- and a 1.4-litre, have been revised and adapted for the new Corsa. Additionally, also improved is the 1.3 CDTi diesel engine. Each of the engines can be coupled with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox.

In addition, the new Corsa features entirely redesigned chassis that rolling refinement, ride quality, precise handling and stability. As a matter of fact, the new chassis has no carry-over components from the current model and features new suspension components.

The vehicle has 5 mm lower centre of gravity. This aids stability and roll characteristics. More taut and precise handling is ensured by the stiffer front sub-frame and new front suspension geometry that features new knuckle joints.

Speed-sensitive electric power steering has been added and improvements have also been made to damper characteristics. The rear suspension has also been retuned. Furthermore, the new chassis is complemented by a wide range of driver safety systems that include: Hill Start Assist, Automatic Park Assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

Stepping inside, one sees that almost every element of the interior has been redesigned. The newly-designed instrument panel is themed around horizontal lines. 2015 Corsa will be also available with IntelliLink that operates through a 7-inch colour touchscreen.

Moreover, as a standard the car will include heated front seats, steering wheel and windscreen. It will also add soft-tone ambient lighting and a full-size panoramic roof. A wide range of new safety systems are also present. These include Side Blindspot Alert, High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, bi-xenon lights and a rear-view camera.

2015 Vauxhall Corsa’s additional details and full pricing will be disclosed later this year.

  • Vauxhall Corsa Achieves 85.6 MPG Efficiency Result

2012-Vauxhall-Corsa-THUMB2012 Vauxhall Corsa is more economical than ever achieving 85.6mpg while emitting just 88g/km. The environmentally friendly car is equipped with 95 hp (70 kW) 1.3CDTI ecoFLEX Start/Stop engine which contributes to the numbers delivered.

Furthermore, some additional improvements have been made in order to minimize the consumption and emissions. For instance, the turbodiesel is equipped with a variable displacement oil pump which delivers only the necessary oil pressure.

In fact, it changes the oil volume having “in mind” the load so that it can reduce energy needed for oil circulation. The use of special low-viscosity transmission oil also contributes to efficient fuel consumption.

Next to be mentioned is the engineered manual transmissions with a more precise and smooth gear change action. The modifications result in high shift comfort and optimized operation in cold and warm conditions. In addition, what also takes part in the great efficiency are the new 185/65 R15 low-rolling-resistance tyres.

Performance however is not a compromise here, given the achieved results. The maximum torque of this Vauxhall model is of 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) is available between 1,750 and 3,250rpm. The powerful 95 hp (70 kW) turbodiesel gives the Corsa the acceleration time of 12.3 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h.

  • Opel Relies on LPG with EcoFLEX 1.4

2012-Opel-LPG-ecoFLEX-thumb-Opel are now diversifying their EcoFlex range with with two new, LPG adapted (Liquid Petrolium Gas) additions. The Astra 5-door hatchback and the Astra Sport Tourer will get the more grunty engine while the Meriva will keep it simple with a less powerful and less thirsty version of the former.

This is not Opel‘s LPG debut however. They have been building LPG adapted cars since 2009. Last year, Corsas have started rolling out of the factory with 1.2, LPG modified EcoFlexes that deliver a nimble 83 hp figure and return 110 g/km CO2 which is absolutely not bad for a non-diesel. Now the Astra and the Meriva represent a follow up: they will both get a 1.4 Turbo EcoFLEX designed to sip LPG or run on petrol depending on the driver’s choice. The Meriva engine is slightly underpowered, producing 120 horse powers, 175 Nm of torque while the Astra hatch/Sport Tourer have 140 hp and 200 Nm of torque at their disposal. Carbon dioxide emission figures are 124 g/km and 129 g/km/132 g/km respectively on the combined cycle. Running costs can drop by up to 15% if one prefers driving on LPG and because the engines are Euro 5 rated, road taxation wont be much of a problem. The Astra and the Meriva certainly wont be the last to come with LPG as there are plans to start production of LPG powered Insignia and Zafira models later this year.

    2012-Opel-LPG-ecoFLEX-medium2-

The systems are perfectly fitted to cause minimal discomfort to the passengers and driver – the LPG tank is separate and embedded where one would expect to see the spare-wheel (The wheel itself still comes as standard). And because of having a normal petrol tank, just like any other car, the Opels have a combined range of more then 1400 miles if both containers are full. Transition from Petrol to LPG and back is done seamlessly with an ON/OFF button on the center console.

LPG integration is part of Opel‘s initiative to lead the “green” market by offering neat alternatives to pure petrol and diesel cars. The new EcoFLEX units will make a fine addition to an already broad portfolio of electric cars and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles.

LPG, already familiar to Eastern Europe, is now gathering popularity in Western Europe as well. Over 80 % of the LPG Opels produced have went on the Italian market. The overall infrastructure which allows LPG cars to keep moving is widespread with 6,400 LPG filling stations in Germany alone. Other LPG friendly countries include France, the Netherlands, Belgium and even Britain.

  • Opel Marks 150 Years of Existence

2012-Opel-Astra-150-years-Opel-edition-thumbOpel is preparing to celebrate 150 years of business this year and to do it properly they are planning to release special “150 years Opel” edition of the Corsa, Meriva, Astra and Insignia line. The cars will come with additional equipment and styling that would normally cost much more as an option (one can save up to 2100 euros). An even more festive jubilee trim package – “150 years Opel” – will guarantee exclusivity and character.

The Corsa and Meriva editions both come with 16-inch alloy wheels and tinted, heat insulating Solar Protect glazing at the back. Other comfort tech that warms up the heart includes the heated steering wheel, cruise control and fog lights. The Corsa flashes chromed exhaust pipes regardless of the engine choice. The other three models can also come with the same exhaust system but they largely depend on the engine choice. The Astra gets 17-inch wheels, all of that equipment excluding the fog lights.

The top of the line Insignia rolls on 18 inch wheels, makes use of the same rear view window Solar Protect glazing seen in the other cars, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, fog lights and a cleaning system for the head lights. Air-conditioning is automatic and the new Navi 900 Europa infotainment system gives the term “interactivity” a whole new meaning.

If people are oblivious to all of those bonuses, they can still recognize the anniversary editions by the “150 Adam Opel” emblem, the aluminum door step with “OPEL” engraved on it. The interior is coated with premium quality fabric and leather-like Morrocana material.

The jubilee trim package adds more glitter to an already glamorous product. The Corsa and Meriva both get an adjustable panoramic roof or sunroof abd separate air conditioning for both the driver and the front passenger. Corsas can further be personalized with the ‘jubilee plus’ option which gives a park assist system and 17- inch alloy wheels. The Astra gets a more premium upholstery treatment and so does the Insignia. The latter also gets a glazed panoramic roof, an electric sunroof and zonal air-conditioning.
