  • Mazda expands official mx-5 restoration parts programme for mk1 owners in Europe

    1989 Mazda MX-51

Revealed at the 1989 Chicago Motor Show, the Mazda MX-5 has become a landmark car in the 100-year history of Mazda – a car that is the very essence of the Jinba Ittai driver-and-car-as-one philosophy that goes into every Mazda. With more than one million cars sold across four generations, the Mazda MX-5 is the world’s best-selling two-seater roadster and continues to win new fans across the world.

However, for many MX-5 fans it’s the timeless first-generation that’s closest to their hearts. Now into its third decade, the original Mazda MX-5 is as popular as ever with sports car enthusiasts and in recent years has begun to be even more accepted as a true classic to be preserved, enjoyed, and restored. With the popularity, rarity, and values of Mk1 MX-5s rising, especially original UK cars, the first-generation MX-5 is fast attaining the revered classic status it deserves.

With this in mind, Mazda Corporation is introducing an expanded range of official reproduction parts that will allow owners to enjoy and enhance their Mk1s for many years to come with factory approved parts and components. In total there are now 117 left-hand drive and 156 right-hand drive vehicle parts available to support first-generation MX-5 restoration projects.

To ensure Mazda introduced the most needed parts, the company consulted specialist retailers and MX-5 fan clubs across Europe. All the parts will be manufactured in Japan using modern methods and the highest quality materials while maintaining the look and feel of the original components. The new range includes parts that enthusiasts have been frequently searching for, including a newly-developed fabric hood that uses the same rear screen material as the original version. Continuing the authentic approach, Enkei Wheels will be manufacturing aluminum wheels that perfectly match the original design, but will be using modern technologies to make them lighter and more hard-wearing.

There will also be a large list of replacement interior trim parts, mechanical components, and smaller bolts and washers. Commenting on the increased list of official first-generation MX-5 parts that will be available to order from UK Mazda dealers, Mazda Motors UK Parts and Accessories Marketing Manager, Steve Rose said: “right from its launch here in 1990, the MX-5 has always been hugely popular in the UK, so we are delighted to be able to offer Mazda Genuine Parts through our Authorised Repairer Network allowing our customers to keep their MX-5 100 percent Mazda”.

Adding, “with the early cars becoming modern classics it’s great to see so many still being driven and enjoyed. Whether it’s a full restoration or general maintenance, having a ready supply of genuine parts means these cars can continue to be enjoyed for years to come”.

A total of 20,132 first-generation MX-5s were officially imported to the UK and now there’s an even bigger range of official parts for the original MX-5 owners in the UK, while the current Mazda MX-5 range has recently been updated with the 2.0-liter 100th Anniversary Special Edition and the 1.5-liter R-Sport. Both cars continue a long tradition of offering distinctive, stylish, and exclusive limited-edition models.

  • The All-new Mazda MX-5 Redefines the Driving Experience

Smaller, lighter, nicer and fresher from the ground up – this is the fourth generation Mazda MX5! Comparing it to the 1989 model, the new one is shorter than the original version and loses more than 100 kg of its body weight.

Becoming the essence of every Mazda model, 2015 Mazda MX5 undoubtedly redefines the idea of fun and pleasure when it comes to driving. To maximize the lightweight aggression which the car presents, the automaker equips it with a SKYACTIV – G direct-injection 1.5-litre petrol engine matched to a six-speed manual gearbox. It produces 131 PS (96kw) at 7,000rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 4,800rpm.

Exteriorly, Mazda MX5 conveys a certain harmony due to the blend of top-notch design and well-crafted proportions. With its nicely-sculptured front, the new MX5 knows how to make an impression. Since the engine is mounted lower in the chassis, the bonnet is lower too and this gives the driver a better view while on the move.

Interiorly, the car is arranged in such a manner that allows for ultimate concentration on the driving experience. For instance, the pedals, controls, gauges and the rest of the features are optimally positioned, enabling the driver to keep a straight posture and drive as comfortably as possible. Inside the car, one will definitely get the feel of a design that is balanced, plain and stylish, at the same time. It seems that everything in this open-top car is put on its right place and in the right shape.

It is good that Mazda MX5 has come to life because this small preciousness adds a renewed “sensation of the driver and car being in sync with each other as they communicate.”

2016-Mazda-MX-5-THUMB2016 Mazda MX-5 MKIV roadster is to be the star of Mazda’s Paris Motor Show exhibit, where it will make its official European premiere. The event will happen between 4th and 19th of October, where Mazda will also display the Mazda3, Mazda6 and the Mazda CX-5 models. The new MX-5 was revealed just a few days ago and showed its stunning cutting-edge technology and timeless charm. The MKIV Mazda MX-5 is expected to give another boost to the successful Japanese brand.

The latest edition of the best-selling two-seater roadster is the sportiest one ever created by the company. It fully embodies the striking rendition of Mazda’s KODO – Soul of Motion design theme, thus exuding exuberance and expressing car’s agility.

The new model also expresses the exciting experience that awaits every driver behind the wheel. In keeping with the tradition, the cabin is snug yet comfortable, and it also includes modern convenient technologies. Just to name two:  MZD Connect smartphone connectivity system and i-ACTIVSENSE. What is more, the 2016 MX-5 also sports Mazda’s innovative line-up of active safety technology.

  • 2015 Mazda MX-5 [render]

Mazda MX-5 is the best-selling roadster in the world and it is time to get an all-new look. Still, the manufacturer didn’t reveal any information or pictures of the upcoming 2015 Mazda MX-5. Until then, here is a nice render picture of the next generation MX-5 created by Theophilus Chin.

2015 Mazda MX-5 will be smaller and lighter compared to the outgoing model. The weight reduction will be more than 100kg (220 lbs), which means a lot better acceleration, improved fuel economy and superb handling. The new model will also adopt a lower center of gravity making the roadster a lot safer and harder to roll-over.

The new MX-5 will get Mazda’s Kodo design language, so it will offer a very attractive styling as seen in recent products such as the 6 and 3, as well as the Hazumi Concept.

Other highlights include more powerful engines in the range and a more rigid body that will also make it safer in case of a collision. Sales of the all-new Mazda MX-5 are expected sometime in the beginning of the next year and the model will probably make official debut in the end of 2014.

    Stay tuned!
