  • 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT delivers enhanced driving dynamics

2013-Mercedes-Benz-SLS-AMG-GT-THUMB2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT comes to offer enhanced driving dynamics and even better track performance. This is due to its output which now delivers the exceptional 435 kW (591 hp) and its new optimised AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. Adding further is the redeveloped AMG RIDE CONTROL Performance suspension.

The SLS Mercedes-Benz is available both as a Coupé and a Roadster. Among the additional new features is the high-quality AMG designo Exclusive STYLE leather interior, which can be optionally chosen.

Furthermore, the SLS AMG now has more masculine and athletic stance. It is equipped with darkened headlamps and tail lights as well as red-painted brake calipers. All this contributes for the unique new appearance of the vehicle.

The wing-shaped cross fins and the star recess in the radiator grille also has a high-gloss finish. He same finish can be seen on the exterior mirrors and the fins on the bonnet and wings as well. The AMG logo on the right of the boot lid includes the additional letters “GT”.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Coupe

Going further into details, this amazing sportscar is equipped with AMG 6.3-litre V8 front mid-engine. The latter has a maximum output of 435 kW (591 hp) at 6800 rpm, while the maximum torque is 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) at 4750 rpm. Therefore it will be very easy for the SLS AMG GT to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in only 3.7 seconds, and to reach a speed of 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds.

Next, adding to the exceptional performance is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7 speed sports transmission located on the rear axle. It is promised that it is more direct and spontaneous in the manual “M” transmission mode. The transmission is an optimized dual-clutch one.

Another important highlight here which contributes significantly for the great performance of the vehicle is the newly developed AMG RIDE CONTROL Performance suspension. What it does is to improve the vehicle’s sportiness.

The new AMG RIDE CONTROL Performance suspension includes stiff spring/damper tuning and dispenses with “Comfort” mode. “Sport” mode is recommended as the maximal setting for undulating road surfaces and tracks requiring increased suspension travel. And the last mode- “Sport plus” provides higher damping forces and delivers sporty driving style on routes with a level road surface.

As standard, the vehicle runs on 265/35 R 19 tyres on the front and 295/30 R 20 tyres on the rear. Both are fitted to weight-optimised AMG forged light-alloy wheels with a 10-spoke design. They are painted in matt black and with a high-sheen finish. Three optional AMG light-alloy wheels are also available.

2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Interior

What about the interior of this Mercedes-Benz? Of course, it includes nothing else but a sporty design. Not to mention that it combines only the high-quality and functional atmosphere of a racing car.

For instance, the sports seats are embossed with a badge on the head restraints. The centre sections are finished in Alcantara®, which can be also found on the door centre panels. The black interior appointments are complemented by red seat belts and red contrasting stitching on the AMG sports seats. The centre console and the door panel lining are finished in red too. The floor mats also feature red edging.

As an exclusive but optional extra, the SLS AMG offers AMG designo Exclusive STYLE leather. This high-quality extra is available in single or two-tone finishes and has distinctive upholstery with a diamond design with contrasting stitching. The diamond design is included on the door centre panels as well.

Other optional highlights feature a designo leather finish for the dashboard, the beltlines and door armrests, the handrest on the centre console, AMG floor mats in black with porcelain leather edging, roof lining in Alcantara® porcelain, and the parcel shelf (Coupé) or roll-over bar (Roadster). Seams finished in contrasting colours create exciting highlights and underscore the high-quality, hand-finished nature of this new leather package.

Customers can choose among these available colour combinations: mocha brown/porcelain, titanium grey pearl/porcelain and mystic red/porcelain.

Other attractive optional extras for all SLS AMG models include (extract): AMG carbon-fibre exterior mirrors, AMG carbon-fibre engine compartment cover, AMG Interior Carbon-Fibre package (carbon-fibre trim, trim on seat backrest and side, door sill panels), AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system, AMG Performance Media, AMG 10-spoke forged wheels in other colour variants, AMG carbon-fibre trim, AIRSCARF (Roadster), Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG surround sound system,

The official market launch of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT is scheduled for October this year and the starting price is 204,680 Euros.

  • 2012 Formula 1 supported by Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Safety Car and C 63 AMG Estate Medical Car

Mercedes-Benz-SLS-AMG-Official-F1-Safety-Car-THUMBMercedes-AMG is going to include in the 2012 Formula 1 season Official F1™ Safety Car and the Official F1™ Medical Car based on SLS AMG and C 63 AMG Estate, respectively, thus ensurring maximum safety in extreme conditions. The gullwing model with its one-of-a-kind roof lights and distinctive FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile)  and F1 logos on its aluminium body, has been official Safety Car for Formula 1 for two years already. The SLS AMG is sent out on the track, as soon as the Race Control considers that the safe progress of the race may be impeded. In fact, FIA has entrusted the task of driving the Safety Car to the racer Bernd Mayländer since 2000. In addition, the SLS AMG Official F1™ Safety Car is also on call throughout the race weekend accompanying race series, such as the GP2 and GP3 Series and the Porsche Supercup. In details, during the last years Formula 1, the SLS AMG Official F1™ Safety Car was deployed twelve times. In addition, at the Monaco Grand Prix there were two Safety Car phases, while the Grands Prix in Belgium, Italy, Singapore, Japan and Korea each had just one Safety Car phase. But there was no other year like 2010, when the Safety Car was deployed 21 times, a figure which is an absolute record.

What makes the SLS AMG the perect Safety Car? First, it is low kerb weight, has low centre of gravity and balanced weight distribution, which in addition both are combined with a powerful AMG V8 engine and dual clutch transmission in a transaxle arrangement. Furthermore, the engine, power train, suspension and braking system of the Safety Car are the same as those found in the standard production SLS AMG, with the exception of the newly developed exhaust, which was specifically designed to provide even more emotionally-charged sound experience. In detials, the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine achieves a peak output of 420 kW (571 hp) at 6800 rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) at 4750 rpm. This enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. In addition, the outstanding SLS AMG’s driving dynamics deliver great performance thanks to the aluminium spaceframe body (it weighs only  1620 kg). The low center of gravity has been achieved thank to the dry-sump lubrication system. The installed position of the engine behind the front axle, and the transaxle arrangement of the transmission on the rear axle, have a positive effect on the weight distribution, which is 47/53 percent (front/rear). The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission with dual-clutch technology enables short shifting times. At the same time the integrated mechanical multi-disc differential lock, together with the 3-stage ESP® deliver nothing else but outstanding traction. The suspension of the AMG is with aluminium double-wishbone arrangement, which is usually found in racing cars. In fact, this technology offers a number of benefits like high cornering limits, precise turn-in ability, first-class agility and low mass inertia during fast changes in direction. Additionally, the braking distances are minimised and resistance to fading is maximised due to the high-performance AMG ceramic composite braking system. The SLS AMG also features weight-optimised 10-spoke forged wheels fitted with size 265/35 R 19 (front) and 295/30 R 20 (rear) tyres.

2012 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Official F1 Safety Car
2012 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Official F1 Safety Car

What makes the Official F1™ Safety Car different from a standart production SLS AMG is the roof light bar. It boasts an aerodynamically efficient profile and sits on a carbon-fibre hood. All of the bar’s light functions are handled by LEDs; they offer a fast response time and low power consumption. In particular, the two centrally positioned green lights on the front and rear are lit up when the gullwing model joins the field at the start of a Safety Car phase. Permanent green is the signal for all Formula 1 drivers to overtake the Safety Car. On the other hand, the orange light are switched on, as soon as the Safety Car has positioned itself in front of all of the Formula 1 racing cars. The flashing orange lights on the outer ends of the bar indicate that no overtaking whatsoever is allowed. In additiom the roof light bar also incorporates a camera, and a second one is located next to the rear number plate, which allows the driver and co-driver to monitor the Formula 1 cars behind via a screen in the cockpit. There is also special number plate on the rear and 700 green LEDs. They provide additional safety in darkness or wet weather. Another important feature is the stroboscopic lights in the headlamps and tail lights, which are activated permanently and provide a signalling function.

How about the interior of the Safety Car? Well, it is not much different from a standard production model: it includes sport bucket seats with black leather upholstery. On the right side of the AMG DRIVE UNIT there are four coloured buttons which are used for controlling the various light functions and the signal horn. The centre console is also finished in carbon-fibre. The steering wheel in wrapped leather/Alcantara and has a specially contoured grip area, a high-grade metal insert and a 370 mm-diameter rim with a flattened lower section. The seven gears of the dual-clutch transmission are changed using the two high-grade metal shift paddles. Furthermore, two central monitors in the cockpit are used to monitor the progress of the race.

2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Estate Official F1 Medical Car
2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Estate Official F1 Medical Car

To accompany the SLS AMG Official F1™ Safety Car in the 2012 season, Mercedes-AMG has provided the Official F1™ Medical Car, which will be responsible for ensuring a rapid emergency response if an event of accident occurs. The C 63 AMG Estate is perfectly equipped and provides outstanding driving dynamics: it includes the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine with the AMG Performance package, which produces 358 kW (487 hp). In addition, the forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft have been adopted from the drive system of the gullwing model. The lower inertia of the components, allows the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine to rev freely and respond with even more agility. What makes the car different from a standart C63 AMG, is the variable intake manifold, which lurks beneath the bonnet in a titanium grey paint finish. It helps to accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.4 seconds. The engine is mated to the standard AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission, with wet start-up clutch, four driving modes, a double-declutch and a RACE START function. The excellent driving dynamics are also ensured by the adjustable coil-over suspension. The car sits on the AMG light-alloy wheels, painted in matt black with high-sheen rims and fitted with size 235/35 R 19 (front) and 255/30 R 19 (rear) tyres. The vehicle also has a differential lock and the 3-stage ESP®. Maximum durability is provided by the optimised coolant, engine oil, transmission fluid and power steering fluid cooling. Visually, the Medical Car resembles the Safety Car, and the main reason for this are the light bar on the roof, the FIA and F1‑logos, the stroboscopic LED lights at the front and rear, and the rear number plate illuminated with LEDs and with “Medical Car” lettering. Furthermore, four AMG sports bucket seats with six-point seat belts, two monitors integrated into the centre console for monitoring the race and a radio set for communicating with Race Control distinguish the interior of the Official F1™ Medical Car from that of the standard production C 63 AMG Estate. Of course, there is plenty of space for all of the emergency equipment.

  • Mercedes with two first places in ”The Best Cars of 2012” survey

Mercedes-Benz-SLS-AMG-Roadster-thumb“Auto motor und sport” is a popular motoring magazine known for it’s expertise on.. well.. motoring and sport. It is German-based but it also has a significant amount of worldwide clout as it has been around since 1977. This year, more than 210,000 readers, some of them from China, others from Brazil, have cast their votes to crown the “Best Cars of 2012”.

And now, Mercedes are proud to say that for a third consecutive year, the SLS AMG Roadster heads the cabriolet nominations. And one can’t really blame the public for going with the SLS again. It is captivated by the unique blend of unconventional yet classic design and ground breaking technology. The SLS AMG boasts a lightweight aluminium spaceframe body, an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front mid-engine producing 420 kW (571 hp), seven-speed dual clutch transmission and a sports suspension with aluminum double wishbone suspension.

Another class dominated by Mercedes is the SUV segment – Mercedes-Benz M-Class won most of the reader’s hearts with its ever solid presence on the road, sustainability and safety. End even if it weren’t such a favorite SUV, other Mercs are always there to take the love – an honarable second place for the G-Class

  • Celebrities and Mercedes-Benz [part 2]

Nicole Scherzinger and Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG

Nicole Scherzinger drives the exceptional Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. This sport car is dynamic and full of emotion (I bet Nicole is too), and all this is because of the AMG 8-cylinder engine with larger displacement. The effect is the development of the whole 525 hp (386 kW) and torque of 630 Nm (465 lb-ft).  The AMG SPEEDSHIFT delivers its innovative 7-speed sports transmission, with which Miss Scherzinger won’t be late for any concert! Nicole’s taste is a great one and obviously she is into cars, which combine the sportiness and spontaneity of a manual gearbox with the comfort of an automatic transmission. This will undeniably ensure that she got all the driving a pleasure! Oh and not to forget the price of the car: it costs around $133000.

Nicole Scherzinger - Mercedes SL63 AMG

    Denise Richards and Mercedes-Benz GL450

The ex-wife of Charlie Sheen obviously has admirations for bigger cars. She has paid for this beautiful SUV the amount of $80000. For this sum she got one of the best-looking SUV that Mercedes builds. Moreover this car has the luxury V-8 with three rows of seating. However we give an advice to the superstar, which is to look forward to the future with more ”eco”-eyes. This is very easily achievable, because Mercedes offers a very smart diesel – GL320 BlueTec. With it Denise will have the opportunity to show that she cares for the environmental well-being of the planet, just like her colleague – Christina Applegate (for more information see part 1 of the article).

    Denise Richards - Mercedes-Benz GL450

    Patrick Dempsey

The next celebrity that caught our attention is the movie star from Grey’s Anatomy – Patrick Dempsey.  He has not only one, but two vehicles caring the brand of Mercedes-Benz. We are absolutely sure that he enjoy every summer driving his retro convertible, which adds more to his fabulous status! Unfortunately, he has kept the details about the price for himself. Moreover, he not only got the pleasure to drive this cabriolet, but also enjoys driving another Mercedes car. And this is Mercedes SLS AMG. Here, this “joy” has cost him the amount of $200000. And compared to Eddie Murphy we must confirm that he is more into sport type of vehicles. We also have to highlight the unique design of the automobile (see the Gullwing doors), and to mention the 6.3 V8-powered AMG engine (420 kW/571 hp) that this lovely car has! Applauses for Dempsey!

Gerard Butler and Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID

Even the Scottish star enjoys driving a Mercedes, and more importantly – a special one! This is Mercedes-Benz S400 HYBRID – the ultimate combination of eco and luxury car! The vehicle is also special because it is the first hybrid from Mercedes. Butler has paid for this environmental-friendly car the sum of $90000. And if you wonder about the engine in this S-Class Sedan, it is being powered by a hybrid system with a 3.5-liter V6 gas one.  The high–power profile of Mercedes is maintained exactly by this hybrid system. In addition the electric-gas combo delivers a total output of 295 horsepower (217 kW), which are channeled through a 7-speed automatic transmission. Definitely Mr. Butler got our admirations for this “green” ride!

  • Celebrities and Mercedes-Benz

If you have always wondered about the celebrities who drive your favorite vehicle, here you can have a glance at four of the well known super-stars. Not surprisingly they have chosen Mercedes-Benz as their transportation method, but this choice may speak about their personalities as well. Let’s have a sneak peak:

Pharrel Williams and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren

This beautiful car costs Pharrel Williams the amount of $455,000. What’s so special about the vehicle is that it has the impressive supercharged 5.5L V8 engine. The top speed of the car goes to 207 km/h and without a doubt we can affirm that the front man of N.E.R.D loves to drive it around Virginia Beach. This special car definitely expresses the unique style of the co-creator of the fashion lines Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream. Unquestioningly this unique combination of Mercedes-Benz and its Formula 1 partner McLaren can impress everyone with unique pioneering developments, very high performance and also with big levels of safety and practicality. For sure the celebrity counts on good style and security!

    Pharell and his Mercedes SLR
    Pharell – Mercedes SLR

    Megan Fox
    and Mercedes-Benz G550

The Super star Megan Fox was very recently spotted with her Mercedes-Benz G550. You probably have ever believed that this square and edgy design of the Mercedes G-Wagon will be more appealing for the gentleman. Well, Megan Fox proves it wrong! Not only is she one of the sexiest women in the world, but as seen – she is a tough lady who likes “tough” cars! Mercedes-Benz G550 is very special 4×4 vehicle and it costs approximately $110 000. The 2010 G-Class line includes the V8-powered G550 and the high-performance G55 AMG. They will ensure that Miss Fox won’t be late for any movie shot! The beautiful celebrity not only has a good taste for a balanced off-road car, but also her choice speaks for a search of sumptuous on-road comfort. Well done Megan!

Eddie Murphy and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

Fantastic car! And it cost Mr. Murphy only the amount of $190 000. This luxury grand tourer automobile is the first Mercedes automobile designed in-house by AMG. And obviously Eddy Murphy is up to date with the innovations unlike Pharrel Williams. If you wonder why, it is confirmed that this is model to replace Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Don’t envy Pharel! This sport automobile is extremely exciting. Not only it has unique design – see the Gullwing doors, but also it is equipped with 6.2 V8-powered AMG (420 kW/571 hp )!

    Eddie Murphy Mercedes SLS AMG

Christina Applegate and Mercedes-Benz GL 320

Why not going to yoga with your new Mercedes-Benz GL? Well, this is what Christina Applegate does, and she does it very well! Driving this full-size crossover SUV costs the celebrity the sum of $ 80 000. Obviously she can afford a personal trainer, but the pleasure of driving a GL-Class is irreplaceable. GL-class offers a high-quality interior, but the eco-friendly superstar probably had chosen it because of the fuel-efficient diesel engine. Moreover, the driving of the vehicle feels more like a car than a truck-based SUV. And most importantly don’t forget that this spectacular automobile is a worthy heir of the G-Class … only the cabin is a bit refined.
