  • Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-In Hybrid To Debut In Frankfurt

Mercedes-Benz-S-500-Plug-In-Hybrid-THUMBMercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-In Hybrid is the third hybrid model of the new S-Class. It comes to new standards in terms of efficiency, drive-system and climate comfort. The new Mercedes-Benz hybrid vehicle emits only 69 g/km of CO2 and returns 94.2 mpg.

In fact, the new S-Calss can cover 100 kilometres with just three litres of fuel. It is equipped with 80-kW electric drive with externally rechargeable battery which contributes towards emission-free driving for about 18 miles. The electric motor is coupled 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged engine.

Some additional features included in the new model are the second-generation recuperative braking system and the anticipatory Intelligent HYBRID energy management system. What is more, the high-voltage lithium-ion battery of the car offers the option of being recharged from an external source with a charging socket located on the right side of the rear bumper.

Four hybrid operating modes can be selected at the push of a button, these are HYBRID, E-MODE (electric power only), E-SAVE (fully charged battery is reserved to be able to drive on electric power alone later), CHARGE (battery is charged while driving).

However, the most important highlight of the S 500 Plug-In Hybrid is its power output of 333 hp (245 kW) of the combustion engine plus 109 hp (80 kW) electric motor and torque of 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of the combustion engine plus 340 Nm (250 lb-ft) of the electric motor.

2014-Mercedes-Benz-S-Class-THUMB2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been finally fully revealed showing its incomparable characteristics, exceptional attributes and full capability of luxury and style. The brand relies here in three engineering priorities “Intelligent Drive”, “Efficient Technology” and “Essence of Luxury”. This simply means that the 2014 S-Class extends the boundaries of technology on many levels.

Perfection to the last detail and the pursuit of the bet results in motto – “The Essence of Luxury” seen very prominently thorough the interior. There, new ideas are fully expressed whether it is the seats or the air conditioning, the controls or the design, the infotainment or the comfort and safety in the rear.

The safety features included in this new Mercedes-Benz refer to the motto “Intelligent Drive”. A wide range of new systems makes the new S-Class even more comfortable and safer. In addition, the model-Class offer great efficiency and improved fuel consumption in the 150 kW output category to 64.2 mpg, for instance.

In terms of exterior design some changes have been applied. They start with the radiator grille which is now larger and continue with the more upright and distinctly three-dimensional design of the body. With its long bonnet, the flowing, domed roof line and the gently slanting rear end, the S-Class looks prestigious, sporty and powerful.

The slightly slanting form of the model delivers also aerodynamic advantages. In addition, the highlights are in new-style: the tail lights are completely encased by the car body. LED technology is included, however in a single light bulb.

LED lights are included in the interior as well delivering more comfort to it. Visibility is enhanced by two assistance systems that have undergone some key improvements – Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus.

More importantly, the drive system offers class-leading efficiency in every output category. The 2014 S-Class line-up includes two hybrid versions, a petrol model and a diesel variant: S 400 HYBRID, S 500, S 350 BlueTEC and S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, respectively.

  • Mercedes-Benz Reveals The Interior of 2014 S-Class

2014-Mercedes-S-Class-THUMB2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been finally and officially revealed today. Two weeks ago a leak image has been introduced and showed the exclusivity of the model. Now, the pictures released from the luxury brand are mainly of the interior which offers more than ecstatic experience.

A number of new features specifically related to comfort and safety are to be found in the new S-Class. The interior design is the embodiment of a classic, serene and yet ultra-modern luxury sedan. It combines driving pleasure, spatial and operating comfort at the highest level.

The materials used here are wood trim, which is to be found on the dashboard and centre console, and metallised switch surfaces with pearl-effect paint finishes in three colour shades In addition, the design and exclusivity of the seats, door panels and all controls are to the same, high standard as the front.

The traditional instrument cluster is replaced by a radically redesigned display that extends in front of the driver. It offers numerous of functions and appears to be free-floating. Additionally, two high-resolution colour displays serve as the new information centre in the S-Class.

On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz has raised the seating and climatic comfort in the S-Class to a new level. There is a choice of five different rear seat variants including an Executive seat with a backrest angle. In fact the seating and climatic control is additionally enhanced via a wide range of features such as massage function with 14 separately actuated air cushions in the backrest.

For the first time the brand has included reversing fans in order to active the seat ventilation system. In this way, the rotational direction of the fan, and the airflow within the seat structure, can be reversed. Another world first is the optional heated armrests and door centre panels in the front and rear. There is also optional heated steering wheel and particularly fast-responding seat heating Plus.

What is ore to be highlight are three new features which enhance the safety in the rear: in the belt buckle feeder an electric motor automatically raises and lowers the buckle. The beltbag is an inflatable seat-belt strap that minimizes the risk of injury to passengers in the rear in a head-on collision by lessening the strain on the ribcage. The reclining seat is fitted with a cushionbag as standard. This prevents the occupant from sliding under the belt in the event of an accident.

Another world first is the “active perfuming system” included here which is part of the AIR BALANCE package. The same package includes an enhanced filtering of the outside air fed into the vehicle interior by the climate control system, and of the air recirculating in the interior in air recirculation mode.

The new 2014 S-Class will offer to its occupants unique multimedia experience. The multimedia generation includes intuitive operation. The multi-user system allows independent access to the media sources of the entertainment system from any seat. For instance, the driver control function, which is able to route any audio or video source to the display and headset of any passenger.

In addition, the S-Class is the first sedan car to include Frontbass system as standard. What’s left to be mentioned is the centrepiece of the new COMAND Online system which is the Intel Atom. The latter is a processor whose performance fully equals that of components in the latest laptops.

The sculptural shapes are a classic feature of a Mercedes-Benz design. In the case of the “Aesthetics S” sculpture, the designers decided to present the exterior of a future saloon in artistic way. And as you can see from the video below – they surely did so!

In general what the people behind the design did is to combine together the modern sense of status, sensual shapes and stylish sportiness in one car. In fact, in the eyes of the viewer the aesthetics of the relief-like sculpture of the new car creates a three-dimensional world.

Here we can see how art is becoming an inspiration for car design. The sculpture is an artistic approach to the design of the new S-Class, which we are eagerly expecting next year. Gorden Wagener Head Designer of Mercedes-Benz talks about the sculpture and design by Mercedes-Benz:

  • 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Spy Video

2014-Mercedes-Benz-S-Camouflaged-thumbHere’s how the 2014 Mercedes-Benz-S Class might look like. Well, not exactly like that. This one is camouflaged but that makes us a bit more certain: no scams here despite the rouge nature of the video.

What we managed to gather from was the prevalence of LED technology and the discreteness of the exhaust pipes.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz-S-Class
    2014 Mercedes-Benz-S-Class

The current Mercedes flagship lineup has a wide variety of engines but the 5.5-liter V12 BiTurbo and the 6.0-liter AMG V12 BiTurbo stand out as most impressive. The former brings out 517 PS while the latter – 612 PS and 1000 Nm of torque.

So will this be the next Mercedes-Benz S-Class? We don’t know. We do know however, that if you plan on evading camera armed bicyclists in an urban environment, this is not the car for you.

The world debut of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is due to happen at the start of 2013 so there’s still time for speculations.
