McLaren Bespoke Project 8 features not only one but two unique supercars. They are based on MP4-12C ad F1, but are not a regular McLaren, because they was optimized by McLaren Special Operations (MSO).
As a matter of fact MSO are famous because they create one-of-a-kind models. On good example of these is the breathtaking X-1 model, which debuted in the end of August this year.
As a reminder, McLaren X-1 Concept has one-of-a-kind body, never seen before, and has been created for an anonymous car enthusiast. The client wished he had a machine which was capable as the 12C but wrapped in a unique body.
As you can see, McLaren Bespoke Project 8 has a theme in red and white which carries through the exquisite super vehicles and believe it or not even stretches to the key. The client who wished this tuning obviously has a great sense for style and perfection.
In details, what have been done here is the following. First to be mentioned is that the F1 model is entirely retrimmed. There was applied a high downforce kit to it. Secondly, the MP4-12C was tuned accordingly as well, in order to match its brother the F1.
McLaren even went further. The professionals created a new way of coloring the carbon fibre so that the color scheme can match and in addition they’ve made specific wheel for each of the cars.
McLaren MP4-12C Spider was officially unveiled in the beginning of July. Now McLaren showed the supercar for the first time in public at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The 12C Spider is lightweight vehicle with a high-powered engine which generates 625 horsepower (460 kW). It also includes unique Retractable Hard Top (RHT) folding roof system that can be lowered or raised on the move, and a carbon ‘MonoCell’ chassis identical to that of the groundbreaking 12C Coupe.
The 12C Spider presented at Pebble Beach is not the one which we are already familiar thanks to the official photos. Instead, this example is in new volcano yellow paint, which adds even more dramatic effect to the car.
The impressive output of this McLaren comes from its bespoke 3.8-litre V8 twin turbo which is mated to the 7-Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission. The latter delivers lightning-fast gear changes through rocker-mounted shift paddles affixed to the rear of the steering wheel.
Vehicle dynamics technology feature Brake Steer, ProActive Chassis Control and the unique McLaren Airbrake. They all serve to bring more comfort in all driving conditions; and yet deliver race car performance and handling on track.

“I’m excited that we are so close to seeing the 12C GT3 in its first full race season. The feedback I have received from customers that have already taken delivery of the car is very positive.”, commented Andrew Kirkaldy, Project Manager for McLaren GT.
“The 2011 development programme was challenging, but had many highlights. We started with a pole position in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps in the British GT Championship, and ended the race season with a third place finish in Macau. In one year, McLaren GT has taken the 12C GT3 from concept to race readiness. We will learn more about the car in the early part of the season – and expectations will naturally be high of a car full of Formula 1 technology – but our objective is to makes the 12C GT3 as much a pleasure to own and run as it is race.” , he added.
The 12C GT3 shares the same V8 twin turbo engine and carbon ‘MonoCell’ chassis as its road car sibling, and its aerodynamic package was developed by McLaren GT in partnership with specialist engineers and designers at McLaren Automotive.
Apparently, upon the release of the McLaren MP4-12C back in 2011, there had been an outcry of discontent about its looks from the public. Visually, it hadn’t been able to live up to its power and performance they say. Deemed too bland and “evoraesque”? Well to those who feel under the weather when looking at a standard MP4-12C, there is a solution – It’s the memoR by Hamann which is currently making its debut within the halls of the 82nd Geneva Motor Show.
Roughly speaking, the memoR is a stylistically buffed MP4-12C. No performance upgrades, no chassis fiddling and no 20 or something inch tv’s inside. It’s simply with added “uniqueness” now, according to Hamann.
The main inspiration for the restyle was drawn from the 1995 LeMans winner, the McLaren F1 GTR. Obviously, they didn’t manage to put the driver’s seat back at the center of the cabin but were nevertheless on to something. Four ideas were tossed around when the people at Hamann got to work.
1 Reduce the concave surfaces.
2 Integrate the defining F1 bits and pieces.
3 Add some GT3 elements as well.
4 Create an exciting contrast shade.
By “concave surfaces”, Hamann mean the border of the front air intakes, the cross section of the hood, the rear side panel and the sill area. All of them have been removed. Now we have a large front splitter, an air scoop at the roof, deep drawn door sills a rear wing and a diffuser. Three centered tailpipes finish the look… and the massive wheel arches with the wheels underneath. They too finish it off. Hopefully now nobody will complain about it. All points have been covered.
FAB Design has announced their latest tuning project based on the supercar McLanre MP4-12C. The name of the project is Terso and it is currently exhibited at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
The exterior boasts a new front fascia with intakes, modified rear bumper and a diffuser as well as a carbon fiber wing. The last touch is the roof-mounted scoop. The ride sits on 20” alloy wheels fitted with Dunlop SP SportMaxx performance tires.
The performance is also upgraded. The mighty twin-turbo 3.8 liter V8 develops 680PS (500 kW) and 715Nm (527 lb-ft), which is an overall increase of 80PS (59 kW) and 115Nm (85 lb-ft). 0-100 km/h in 3.0 seconds dead and a top speed of 213 mph (343 km/h).
Gemballa has introduced the Gemballa GT based on the McLaren MP4-12C at the Geneva Motor Show.
“Our starting point is a aerodynamic styling kit and ultra-light forged alloy wheels, and we are developing an engine upgrade programme as well.”, commented Gemballa CEO, Andreas Schwarz.
The Gemballa GT comes with complete aerodynamic package including a new front spoiler, a new rear bumper, a pair of side skirts, a new rear apron and a rear wing.
The car sits on 20” alloy wheels at the front and 21” at the rear fitted with high-performance low-profile tires.
However, do not mistake this model to the recently introduced Racing MP4-12C GT3.
Mansory has introduced the customised McLaren MP4-12C, which received both styling and performance modifications.
The exterior comes with complete body kit including ultralight bonnet with exposed carbon-fibre sections, front and rear aprons as well as mirror housings and wheel arch extensions, which widen the vehicle by 60 mm. All components are made of carbon fibre and hardened in the autoclave under high pressure and temperature.
The performance mods include a high-performance exhaust system, a new engine-management system and a sports air filter with increased air throughflow. The result is 670PS (493 kW) at 7100RPM and 675Nm (498 lb-ft) at 3000RPM. This is an increase of 62PS and 75Nm over the factory power. After the modifications, the top speed is 353 km/h (219 mph).
The Mansory MP4-12C sits on enormous 9.0J x 20” with 245/30 ZR20 at the front and 11J x 21” with 305/25 ZR1 tires at the rear axle. The wheel set guarantees perfect traction even at speeds over 300 km/h.
The interior boasts newly designed airbag sports steering wheel, the aluminium pedals and the real carbon-fibre elements.
“From mild to wild” goes the tagline of Hennessey Performance‘s latest project. It’s called the HPE800 and the subject is the mighty McLaren MP4-12C. It takes courage to call the Surrey originating performance car, mild. But Hennessey seem to be determined that the MP4-12C needs more power so that is just what they have done – ramped the power up to 800 bhp. The project also sees a more flamboyant aero package to the vehicle in order to improve downforce. The Hennessey CarbonAero bodywork makes use of a new, center-positioned frontal air inlet with hood extractor. This new design allows room for larger heat exchangers for improved engine intercooling as well as transmission cooling.
“We’ve been taking fast cars and have been making them faster for over twenty years,” said company founder and president John Hennessey. “I spent a lot of time around the new 12C at the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed and was very impressed. We’re excited to have the opportunity to take a great car and give it our own special performance touch while giving 12C owners a uniquely aggressive appearance”.
A more detailed look on things gives away what exactly Hennessey have done with the MP4-12C – upgraded intercooler and air intake systems, enhancement of the ball-bearing turbocharges and adding external wastegates and blow-off valves. Engine management has also been altered and so have the transmission cooler and the clutch systems. A new Hennessey titanum exhaust system has been fitted and finally the whole engine has underwent custom dyno-tuned calibration. All that comes with a warranty from Hennessay.
Other side notes include the CarbonAero body kit, the Hennessey Monoblock wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires and a feast of leather, carbon and Alcantra inside.
No tweaks on the suspension have been made whatsoever as Hennessey mechanics find it hard to improve upon it any further. That rises the question: will it really handle all that new found power without any customization? All engine upgrades are set to be sold separately or as overall packs but prices have not been announced yet.
