  • McLaren Special Operations presents a restored F1 machine at Concours d’Elegance

2019 McLaren F1 063McLaren Special Operations (MSO) will premiere its recently restored F1 #063 at the Hampton Court Concours d’Elegance outside London, England on September 6-8.

After the announcement of the McLaren F1 Certification programme at last year’s event, MSO continues its confident presentation with this year’s latest project. As custodians of the F1 legacy, MSO continues to develop and manufacture parts to ensure every F1 remains authentic and an icon of the road.

As it comes to the vehicle, Chassis 63 has undergone a comprehensive restoration over a period of 18-months. Initially the body and drivetrain were stripped from the vehicle. At the same time, the interior was then re-trimmed in the original Semi Aniline leather, which was an exclusive feature for this car. The body is finished in Woking Grey – a color reportedly inspired by the often slate-colored English sky.

Furthermore, Woking Grey Alcantara was used on the dashboard and the perforated passenger seats. The driver’s seat was re-trimmed in Woking Grey leather with a red perforated Alcantara central panel. There are also carpets with the same fabric and a steering wheel that features the original design.

In terms of drivetrain system, vehicle’s 6.1-liter normally-aspirated engine was completely redesigned. Once finished, the unit was dyno tested in order to ensure that it generates these massive 618hp that are capable to power the McLaren F1 to 243mph. Sweet!

The restoration was completed in June with almost 3,000 hours of work, which include final road and track testing. Once the work on chassis 63 was completed, it was handed over to the owner at the McLaren Technology Centre.

Of course, the vehicle comes with its own unique Certificate of Authenticity – which McLaren Automotive is the only organization in the world able to issue. Neat!

  • McLaren F1 #069 Concours Condition exclusively for sale by MSO

McLaren F1 #069 front viewImagine that you have a chance to own a real new McLaren F1! How cool would it be? You can actually do that (if you have the money and are faster than Shmee 150), since an example of the F1 with chassis number #069 has appeared on the surface. What is even better, it has covered only 2800 miles, which makes it like a new one… well, almost.

A little bit of history is necessary here. The F1 is actually considered the model which has rewritten the supercar rule book. There were only 64 roadcar examples built between the years 1993 and 1998. These facts actually make the McLaren one of the rarest and highly-regarded models among collectors and petrol-heads.

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) has found one of the last ever and finest examples of this model almost in factory condition. It has covered less than 2,800 miles since new. Built in 1998 as one of the six F1s produced then, the #069 was the 60th unit created.

    McLaren F1 #069 Interior

The supercar is dressed in Carbon Black and is complimented by subtle detailing throughout. Specific highlights include a stealth finish to the 17-inch centre-locking magnesium wheels, central driving seat in black and contrasting red leather, and the dual passenger seats wrapped in Alcantara.

Built after knowledge gained in Formula 1 expertise, the McLaren F1 was the first road car to include a full carbon fibre chassis. It has and with a central driving position and engine bay lined with gold. Driven by a bespoke naturally-aspirated mid-mounted 6.1-litre V12 engine, this car produces 636PS (627bhp) and hits a top speed of 390.7km/h (242.8 mph). In fact, more than 20 years on, the F1 still holds the title of fastest naturally-aspirated production road car ever built!

  • 1997 McLaren F1 GT and P1 Prost: Best Cars to See at Goodwood

McLaren P1 Prost Side View1997 McLaren F1 GT and 2015 McLaren P1 Prost edition are the biggest stars on display at McLaren’s House this weekend. I am talking about company’s participation at Goodwood Festival of Speed, of course. Precisely, McLaren has prepared to show models from the Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series as well as the three newly-announced model tiers.

The theme of the festival this year is ‘Flat-out and Fearless’ and each of these models are to celebrate it. In other words, every McLaren on display at the even will be an emphasis of a milestone or ‘moment’ from company’s history. There are even some models which have been prepared to pay tribute to legendary drivers who have driven for the team over the years.

    McLaren P1 Prost

Starting with the Ultimate Series, it will be represented by a special P1 model, created by MSO. It will honor Alain Prost, who was a four-time Formula 1 world champion. The livery of the car is inspired by the patriotic French livery of his helmet he worn during the competitions. In other words, the carbon fiber body work of the car is painted in white and includes blue graphics and red highlights.

    1997 McLaren F1 GT

1997 McLaren F1 GT Front View

McLaren F1 GT is probably the most exclusive car on display at the event. It represents the Heritage division of MSO and is probably one of the rarest McLaren road cars ever built. The unit at the GFoS carries chassis number #58F1GT and it has been loaned to McLaren for display.

Why it is so special? The reason for this is that it is one of only three examples that were designed and built to homologate the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ for GT racing during the 1997 season. Its features livery that mimics the monochrome design of the Formula 1 team during the late 1990s. World titles were secured by the Finnish racing driver Mika Hakkinen in 1998 and 1999.

    Super Series

Next is the Super Series will be represented by the limited-run 675LT model. It celebrates Denny Hulme and the company’s founder Bruce McLaren, who achieved success together in Formula 1 and the Can-Am series. Later, their dominance became famous under the ‘Bruce and Denny Show’ name. Here, the car has been inspired by Hulme’s iconic helmet design featuring two black stripes, running front to rear, over contrasting Silica White bodywork. There are also yellow tinted headlamp lenses that echo Hulme’s visor.

Furthermore, McLaren 650S Spider completes the model line-up on static display. It is one of the most important models in the Super Series and pays homage to the founder of the team, Bruce McLaren. It is finished in the iconic heritage McLaren Orange. This color is used to match his M7A Formula 1 car in which he claimed the first Formula 1 win for the team in 1968.

    McLaren Moment at Le Mans

    McLaren 570S Coupe Side View

At last, the fifth ‘McLaren Moment’ is showed via McLaren F1 GTR victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. To celebrate this, there will be two models on public display in the Supercar Paddock. These cars will honor two podium finishers.

The first car is the limited edition 650S Le Mans, which has been inspired by the McLaren F1 GTR, #01R, driven by Yannick Dalmas, JJ Lehto and Masanori Sekiya to race victory. The car features Sarthe Grey livery, and is named ‘XP1’. It is characterized by a roof-mounted snorkel, front wing louvres and iconic one-off wheel design.

The second model is another unique McLaren P1 GTR, dressed in iconic yellow and green livery. It mimics the livery of the McLaren F1 GTR chassis #06R, responsible for the third place with the help of the British trio Derek Bell, Justin Bell and Andy Wallace. These two models will be joined by the new McLaren 570S that is going to make a world dynamic premiere at the event.

In other words, Goodwood Festival of Speed is the best place to be this weekend.

  • Rowan Atkinson Selling his McLaren F1 for £8 Million

Rowan Atkinson, most-commonly known as Mr.Bean, has decided to “break up” with his splendid McLaren F1. The end of the “affair” is marked by the screaming sum of £8 million for which the vehicle is being sold by luxury dealer Taylor & Crawley based in London.

The 60-year-old actor bought the sports car back in 1997 for £640,000. Taking into consideration the current price tag, the initial price seems ridiculous. Atkinson’s ultra-rare F1 arrives with a chassis number 61. This McLaren F1 is powered by a 6.1-litre V12 engine that delivers a 627 bhp. This is enough to accelerate car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds, reaching 241mph.

However, Rowan Atkinson has had two accidents with the super-automotive-machine. The first one happened in 2009 and was not that serious unlike the second one that occurred in August 2011. The actor loses control of his vehicle while driving on a slippery road close to Peterborough. Luckily, he escapes the accident without any severe injuries.

In an interview for Telegraph, the actor points out that; “The whole point of the car, the thing no-one ever writes about, is you don’t need to go to the Stelvio Pass or the Nurburgring to enjoy it. It’s so quiet, so comfortable that you can use it – and enjoy it – on any journey. Most of the miles I have done it in are journeys you might do in any other car – going to Sainsburys or doing the school run.”

  • Afzal Kahn is Selling “F1” License Plate – £10 million

Yes, there is no mistake in the heading. The owner of Kahn Design – Afzal Kahn is asking exactly £10,009,995 for the “F1” license plate… and we thought that £3,200 is expensive for a license plate consisting six identical digits.Actually, the saga began back in 2007, when Afzal Kahn has purchased the “F1” license plate for just £440,000. He used it to drive some of his cars including a black McLaren SLR, a Bugatti Veyron and some other interesting sport vehicles. Still, neither of them is even close to the price tag of the incredible license plate. It is very interesting that a stranger offered Mr. Kahn a whopping £6 million for the license plate, last year. Unfortunately, the owner turned down his offer, because he believed that the license plate is worth even more than that. We wonder – how much? The most desirable license plate in the world will probably change its owner, but it is an investment, which will increase its value over the years. We will be very happy to see Rowan Atkinson driving his incredible McLaren F1 with an “F1” license plate. Probably that won’t happen, because he seems a lot reasonable man, who won’t invest a sensational amount of money in such thing.

  • McLaren F1 – Crash in Italy

There are two variants for insurance companies, when they hear the phrase “McLaren F1”. The first one is full of joy… and money, when the owner decides to make an insurance of his super-sports car, which he doesn’t drive at all. The second is full of misery and suffering and involves the word “crash” in a same sentence. Sometimes, this means an epic £910,000 repair bill.

A McLaren was involved in a serious accident in Italy between Saline di Volterra and Pomarance on Tuesday. Luckily, the driver and the passenger were airlifted to the hospital and are in stable condition. However, the sports car suffered extensive damages and the insurers won’t be happy at all.

This particular vehicle has a chassis number 72 and was part of a a larger group of McLaren F1s participating in a tour of Italy and benefiting from technical support provided by the manufacturer. Part of that group was Rowan Atkinson, who also crashed his McLaren F1, twice. The first time was back in 1999 and the second in 2011, when McLaren needed a year to restore the vehicle and issued a £910,000 for the repair.

As a reminder: McLaren F1 is powered by a 6.1 liter naturally aspirated V12 (by BMW) with 636HP (468 kW) at 7,400RPM and 651Nm (480 lb-ft) at 5,600RPM. The engine has a redline rev limiter set at 7,500RPM. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and the compression ratio is 11:1. The curb weight of the car is just 1,140kg.

    0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds; 0-160 km/h in 6.3 seconds; 0-200 km/h in 9.4 seconds and 0-320 km/h in 28 seconds. ¼ mile is covered in 11.1 seconds with 222 km/h (138 mph) and 1 km in 19.6 seconds with 285 km/h (177 mph). The top speed is epic 391 km/h (243 mph).

  • Aryton Senna’s Supercar For Sale

92-Honda-NSX-Senna-shadow92-Honda-NSX-Senna-mediumThe original Honda NSX cars are already rare and valuable on their own. But the one that’s going to go under the hammer at the Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro & Classic Car Sale next month blows all other deals out of the water.

Let’s start from the top though. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of racing icon Aryton Senna. The tragic accident that happened at the Imola track in 1994 sent shockwaves through the motoring world. A man of exceptional qualities, both domestic and professional, he has been deeply missed ever since. A three-time world F1 champion, he was also deeply involved in the racing industry.

This is where the Honda NSX comes into play. Did you know that the McLaren F1 Team used Honda-sourced engines back then. 2015 will see that relationship rekindled again. On his part, Senna, helped the development of the NSX model.

So what about the NSX that will go on sale at the Silverstone Auctions? Well, it belonged to Senna: a 92′ Honda NSX with a black leather interior and a black paint job. The car was previously owned by Senna’s close friend, Antonio Carlos de Almeida Braga. He kept it in a garage in Portugal for two years (nobody was allowed to drive it). It was then sold to a buyer who kept it for a very short while before being passed on to the next buyer: a man who held on to it for 17 years. Regardless, the car has done only 31,800 miles. It has a manual gearbox, a 3.0-liter engine with six cylinders and its value has been estimated at $132,696 (give or take).

One thing’s for sure then. This tiny piece of history won’t end up in our hands.

  • McLaren Bespoke Project 8 in White-and-Red Theme

McLaren Bespoke Project 8 - SideMcLaren Bespoke Project 8 features not only one but two unique supercars. They are based on MP4-12C ad F1, but are not a regular McLaren, because they was optimized by McLaren Special Operations (MSO).

As a matter of fact MSO are famous because they create one-of-a-kind models. On good example of these is the breathtaking X-1 model, which debuted in the end of August this year.

As a reminder, McLaren X-1 Concept has one-of-a-kind body, never seen before, and has been created for an anonymous car enthusiast. The client wished he had a machine which was capable as the 12C but wrapped in a unique body.

As you can see, McLaren Bespoke Project 8 has a theme in red and white which carries through the exquisite super vehicles and believe it or not even stretches to the key. The client who wished this tuning obviously has a great sense for style and perfection.

McLaren Bespoke Project 8 - Front Angle

In details, what have been done here is the following. First to be mentioned is that the F1 model is entirely retrimmed. There was applied a high downforce kit to it. Secondly, the MP4-12C was tuned accordingly as well, in order to match its brother the F1.

McLaren even went further. The professionals created a new way of coloring the carbon fibre so that the color scheme can match and in addition they’ve made specific wheel for each of the cars.

  • McLaren P12 – the F1 successor [render]

Jacek Kolodziejczyk a.k.a. Iacoski has released a render of the successor of the legendary McLaren F1. The new super sports car will be named P12.

The artist has created a speculative effort as to what the final model will look like and we like it very much. Of course, it reminds a lot of MP4-12C. The front end is practically the same, but the car is much wider and more aggressive than MP4.

Probably, the engine will be a tuned version of the 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 that will be coupled with the Formula 1 derived kinetic energy recovery system (KERS). The expected overall power is around 900HP (671 kW). The P12 will be a direct rival to the successor of Ferrari Enzo.

Stay tuned for more information about this interesting vehicle. Of course, the McLaren F1 will remain our all times favourite sports car, but it will be interesting to see something new and … fast!

  • Hamann memoR McLaren MP4-12C at Geneva

Hamann-memoR-MP4-12C-thumbApparently, upon the release of the McLaren MP4-12C back in 2011, there had been an outcry of discontent about its looks from the public. Visually, it hadn’t been able to live up to its power and performance they say. Deemed too bland and “evoraesque”? Well to those who feel under the weather when looking at a standard MP4-12C, there is a solution – It’s the memoR by Hamann which is currently making its debut within the halls of the 82nd Geneva Motor Show.

Roughly speaking, the memoR is a stylistically buffed MP4-12C. No performance upgrades, no chassis fiddling and no 20 or something inch tv’s inside. It’s simply with added “uniqueness” now, according to Hamann.

The main inspiration for the restyle was drawn from the 1995 LeMans winner, the McLaren F1 GTR. Obviously, they didn’t manage to put the driver’s seat back at the center of the cabin but were nevertheless on to something. Four ideas were tossed around when the people at Hamann got to work.

    1 Reduce the concave surfaces.

2 Integrate the defining F1 bits and pieces.

3 Add some GT3 elements as well.

4 Create an exciting contrast shade.

By “concave surfaces”, Hamann mean the border of the front air intakes, the cross section of the hood, the rear side panel and the sill area. All of them have been removed. Now we have a large front splitter, an air scoop at the roof, deep drawn door sills a rear wing and a diffuser. Three centered tailpipes finish the look… and the massive wheel arches with the wheels underneath. They too finish it off. Hopefully now nobody will complain about it. All points have been covered.
