  • Mazda3 comes refined, enriched and more powerful. Here are some details

2016 Mazda3 Continuing to raise its profile as one of the best choices in the C segment, Mazda3 hatchback and sedan model lineup has been further refined with the new and powerful Euro 6-compliant, 105hp (78kW) SKYACTIV-D 1.5 turbodiesel.

As any vehicle enthusiast will tell you, this upgrade significantly increases Mazda3’s competitiveness in the segment. But not only that: the new engine also features low compression ratio of 14:8:1 and distinctive variable turbine geometry turbocharger. What it does is to generate CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km and to return average fuel economy from just 3.8l/100km.

  • Mazda and SKYACTIV: Beneficial or Useless Union?

2014 Mazda3Mazda geared the smooth and trustworthy 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel power unit to the Mazda3. Having made its debut in the all-new Mazda2 and Mazda CX-3 models, the 105hp (77kW)  powerplant will significantly boost Mazda3’s performance and will also contribute to additional fuel efficiency.

Designed for fleet and private customers the SKYACTIV-D, mated to a six-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual gearbox emits only 99g/km and offers a combined 74.3mpg. It will be available with hatchback and Fastback body shapes and will also be offered with the optional six-speed automatic transmission.

The new powerplant will ensure that Mazda3 will have some additional power and hidden tricks. With its 270Nm of torque and 0 to 100km/h (62mph) for 11.0 seconds sprint, this sweetie really deserves its attention.

This advanced engine also features high-dispersion solenoid fuel injectors to suppress cooling losses and provides optimal injection efficiency for any situation and any given condition. This all means the SKYACTIV powerplant offers enhanced combustion and refined smooth driver. Furthermore, the combustion chamber offers special “shouldered” design that suppress flow around the lip of the chamber and prevents combustion gas cooling.

And as you might have expected, this unit comes as standard with Mazda’s i-stop idle-stop system that delivers world’s fastest restarts on a diesel engine. with complex turbine geometry and boosted low engine speeds, the SKYACTIV-D delivers high levels of flexibility and response.

So far, so good. But the question remains: what do you think about the fresh change?

  • Mazda SKYACTIV-D 1.5 liter Diesel

Mazda has unveiled full details about the newly developed four-cylinder, 1.5 liter SKYACTIV-D clean diesel engine. It will power the next generation Mazda2 and boasts a number of technologies improving not only the performance, but the fuel consumption as well. The new engine complies with EURO 6 regulations.

Combined with Mazda’s i-stop idling stop technology, i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration system, and high-efficiency SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission or SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission, the SKYACTIV-D 1.5 will ensure the all-new Mazda2 achieve among the highest level test mode fuel economy figures for a vehicle powered solely by combustion engine in registered vehicles excluding hybrid and micro-mini vehicles in Japan, as well as drastically improved practical fuel economy.

It is another example of how Mazda is implementing its long-term vision for technology development, Sustainable Zoom-Zoom, which promises to deliver all Mazda customers both driving pleasure and outstanding environmental and safety performance.

    The new engine delivers 105HP (77 kW) at 4,000RPM and 250Nm (185 lb-ft) of torque at 1,500RPM.

Key features of the SKYACTIV-D 1.5

    • Development pursued ideal combustion efficiency despite the lowest compression ratio of any small displacement diesel engine—14.8:1.
    • Cooling loss is suppressed by combustion mode transition control technology, and high dispersion solenoid injectors which, along with stepped egg-shaped pistons, help to reduce contact between the flame and chamber wall.
    • The range of homogeneous lean burn is extended through the adoption of high-pressure EGR and low pressure EGR systems, resulting in improved fuel economy, environmental performance and performance feel.
    • Engine cooling system features cooling water control valves (CCV) and water jacket spacers*4 for improved combustion efficiency and reduced mechanical resistance.
    • Variable turbine geometry turbocharger with rotation sensor delivers plentiful boost pressure from low through to high engine speeds.
    • Water-cooled intercooler integrated into the intake manifold improves acceleration response and turbocharger efficiency.
    • Outstanding environmental performance to meet Japan’s Post New Long-term regulations and Euro6 emission standards without an expensive NOx aftertreatment system.

  • SkyActiv-G 1.3 by Mazda

Mazda Motor Corporation has continued to develop superbly efficient SkyActiv engines. The new one is a small 1.3 liter direct injected petrol, which will be unveiled at the Automotive Engineering Exposition that will be held from May 18 through 20, 2011, at the Pacifico Yokohama convention center near Tokyo, Japan.

The new SKYACTIV-G 1.3 features a record high compression ratio of 14.0:1, direct-injection, piston cavities and multi-hole injectors. With these technologies, the engine achieves fuel economy of 3.3 litres per 100 km.

SKYACTIV-G 1.3 deliver 84PS (62kW) at 5 400RPM, 112Nm at 4000RPM and will power the facelifted Mazda Demio. The small city car comes with i-stop and CVT gearbox.

Main features of the SKYACTIV-G 1.3 engine

    • Highly efficient automobile gasoline engine and the world’s first to achieve a compression ratio of 14.0:1
    • Multi-hole injectors enable precise fuel injection control for ideal combustion
    • Mazda’s first dual sequential valve timing system (dual S-VT with electronically-operated intake) in combination with the high compression ratio achieves an unconventional Miller cycle (extremely delayed closure of intake valves) that improves efficiency
    • Compact combustion chambers have a longer stroke for better efficiency
    • Piston cavities are specially designed to support ideal combustion
    • 30 percent less mechanical friction, due to a narrower crankshaft, new roller followers and low-tension piston rings that also reduce oil consumption
    • Various countermeasures to prevent knocking, including a cooled EGR system
    • An updated version of Mazda’s innovative idling stop system, i-stop, improves fuel economy by eight percent. It operates with a higher frequency, requires less fuel to restart, and achieves a smoother restart
    • A lightweight and highly rigid aluminum alloy engine block

Major specifications of the SKYACTIV-G 1.3
