  • /Drive’s Matt Farah Test Drives Venom GT Spyder [VIDEO]

Hennessey-Venom-GT-Spyder-thumbWatch this neat video of the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder being reviewed by Matt Farah – web series “/Drive” presenter who mainly focuses on the sub-category of highly modified vehicles (/Tuned). Simply being in a Venom GT (especially with the wind in your hair) is scary enough so kudos to him for actually letting us in the ecitement.

    Hennessey Venom GT Spyder
    Hennessey Venom GT Spyder

To the keen observer, the Venom GT is just a mere Lotus Exige that looks like as if it has had some intimate moments with a Porsche Carrera GT. But the truth is that under the carbon fiber hood (every bit of the Venom body is carbon fiber) there is space for 7.0-liters of twin turbo V8 goodness that produces 1244 bhp. The gear box is lifted up from a Ford GT so no faults there as well.

You don’t really want to read all about it. Here, watch the video and share the experience:

  • Steven Tyler and the First 1244 HP Hennessey Venom GT Spyder

Hennessey-Venom-GT-Steven-Tyler-thumbIf you happen to know a thing or two about rock music then Aerosmith vocalist Steven Tyler is no stranger to you. If you are also familiar with the car industry, Hennessey Performance should ring a bell as well. Where do these two notions come together? In a Venom GT Spyder of course. The rocker is actually responsible for the creation of this monstrous roadster and he recently had the pleasure to be the first man on the planet to get one.

Back in 2011, Tyler walked in the Hennessey HQ in Texas and asked if he could have one of those Venom GT‘s but with an open top. The tuners considered it, did some structural changes to the rollcage (yes, it needs one) and there you have it – a Spyder. The weight however, went up by around 30 lbs and while that doesn’t sound much, it messed with the power to weight ratio which was originally 1hp for every 1kg. To even things out again, the guys at Hennessey did the most logical thing – more power.

The Venom GT Spyder now develops a healthy batch 1244 bhp. It’s the 7.0-liter twin turbo V8 engine that is actually responsible for it. Those figures supposedly make the Venom Spyder one of the fastest roadsters in the world. The 0 to 200 mph run takes less than 16 seconds, we are told, which puts the Bugatti Veyron Vitesse with the silver medalists.

There will be only five 2013 Venom GTs produced and three of them have already been sold. In other words, besides Steven Tyler, two other people had $1.1 million dollars to spare. That’s a lot of money for a car that’s based on the Lotus Exige. We say that, but actually, most of the original car was left out. Fingers crossed, they kept the suspension for this one.

  • 2012 Geneva Motor Show: Lotus Exige S Roadster

Lotus has unveiled the Exige S Roadster at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle is based on the well-known Elise, but comes with enormous V6 in the middle.

The supercharged 3.5 liter V6 develops 350PS (257 kW) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual or an optional SPS (Serial Precision Shift) gearbox. 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, to 160 km/h in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 233 km/h (145 mph). The fuel consumption is good – 10.1 l /100km (28.0 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 236 g/km.

The car comes with two different suspension settings. There’s the standard setting for an active driving experience suited to public roads; and an optional setting as part of the Race Pack for maximum performance, developed for track use. The launch control system can be activated when the car is in Race mode.

Outside, it’s a fine balance of beauty and the beast. The drop-top adds extrovert style to the Exige’s already muscular contours, at the same time it is an elegant machine that keeps its clenched fist under wraps

Inside, the car is a lesson in stylish minimalism and functionality. The customer can specify a comfort enhanced plush interior or go for a more stripped down, sporty option.

2012 Lotus Exige S Roadster will hit the European and the Asian markets, but there are no plans to be introduced in the USA.

  • MOV’IT and Lotus

MOVIT and LotusMOV’IT have been specializing in creating ultra-performance brake systems. That’s why they was nominated by the famous British car maker Lotus as a brake supplier and technology partner.

“We always start from scratch with a “blank piece of paper”, because no car is exactly like the other: Power, weight, maximum speed, mounting suspension, power transmission or dynamic – everything has to be factored in accurately, and only after that the final design can be brought to paper, and subsequently on the road.”, said Guido Frensemeyer.

“The serial nomination by Lotus supports the development and the performance of our company and represents the next landmark in our company’s development. The continuous further development in all areas along with the underlying process landscape allows us to be a competent partner, even for the most demanding automobile manufacturers. The fact that we are already working with some of the leading German car manufacturers on specific projects, and that we are in the process of being approved as series supplier as well, emphasizes this. We are looking forward to experience the fruits of our work on the road – in the next car models from Lotus.”, added Frank Scherer, Director of the MOV’IT GmbH and CEO of the MOV’IT Group.

Lotus is aiming to compete with one of the best on the market – Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini. Because of this, they won’t only need superb engines like the new 5.0 litre V8 with 620PS, but superb braking systems. MOV’IT has both solutions – steel and ceramic.
