  • Lexus LFA – The End of Production

Lexus LFA is one of the strangest cars ever built. It is extremely expensive, but not extremely fast. So, the news that the planned 500-unit production run has been completed is actually good one. It is time for the LFA to go to history, because it didn’t manage to be one of the best super-cars in the world… as planned.

The car went into production in December 2010 with a rate of 20 per month. In January 2012, the LFA Works also began production of the LFA Nurburgring Package, which is a circuit racing-oriented grade. Still, it wasn’t brilliant.

Now, two years later, the final unit will undergo quality inspection and road testing before being delivered to its owner.

The LFA is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.8 liter V10 with 560HP (412 kW) and 480Nm (356 lb-ft) of torque. The power is put on the road through rear-mounted 6-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox (ASG). 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph). The red line is at 9000RPM.

The price was €368,000, so if you want one – search for a second hand.

  • PUR Design Lexus LFA – the aggressive beauty

PUR Design has released their tuning package for one of the fastest cars in the world – Lexus LFA. The hyper car is now even more stunning and aggressive. It comes with complete aerodynamics package, but without any performance mods, which are not needed.

The LFA is powered by a 4.8 liter naturally aspirated V10 engine equipped with dual VVT-I. It has 560HP (412 kW) at 8700RPM and 480Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque at 6800RPM. The red line is at whopping 9500RPM. The engine has forged aluminum pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, and solid titanium valves.

The curb weight of the vehicle is just 1 480kg (3 263 lbs), so the performance is sensational. 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 326 km/h (203 mph). Power-to-weight ratio is 2,64kg / hp. The more interesting 0-200 km/h discipline is covered in 11.4 seconds and ¼ mile in 11.6 seconds with 201 km/h (125 mph) terminal speed.

The Nürburgring Package LFA was tested at the Nürburgring in June 2011. Driven by Akira Iida, the LFA set a time of 7:22.85.

Lexus-LFA-Chrome-THUMBA chrome version of the emblematic Lexus LFA is going to make its debut at the Meguiar’s MotorEx this Saturday. The supercar which costs $700 000 is owned by an Australian and he in fact has taken their vehicle to the extreme – wrapping it in one-of-a-kind chrome exterior!

In particular the Lexus LFA is unique and powerful, harmonious lightweight vehicle, which includes an advanced Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) construction for its chassis and bodywork. Thanks to the latter it has a light, incredibly strong and highly rigid structure.

In fact, sixty-five per cent of LFA’s body structure is made from carbon fibre. The remaining thirty-five percent stay for the aluminium.

More importantly, the supercar is powered by its bespoke 4.8-litre V10 engine, which is able to generate 560 hp (412kW) of power and 480Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque.

This makes possible for the Lexus to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, and is capable of revving from idle to a redline of 9,000rpm in just 0.6 seconds. The top speed of the LFA is 325km/h.

  • Acoustic engineering creates Formula 1-inspired soundtrack for Lexus LFA

Not only does the Lexus LFA deliver thoroughbred supercar performance, the sound it makes is every bit as thrilling. The acoustic performance of the V10 engine and exhaust system has been fine-tuned to create a unmistakeable “soundtrack” that rises from a rumbling note at idle to a nape-tingling red-line wail.

The acoustic team studied the noise made by a Formula 1 car at maximum revs, then applied detailed design features to create an exhaust note for the LFA that is unlike any other car on the road, enhancing the sensation of speed and acceleration.

The main silencer is made of titanium and has a valve-actuated, dual-stage structure that channels the exhaust flow according to engine speed. Up to 3,000rpm, the exhaust valve stays closed, routing the flow through multiple chambers, creating an unobtrusive note. Above 3,000rpm the valve opens, allowing the exhaust  to bypass these chambers and flow into a single resonance chamber, before exiting through the stacked trio of tailpipes.

The V10’s induction system was also modified to complement the engine’s acoustic qualities. The uniquely formed horizontally split resin surge tank – a unique design – mimics the acoustic chamber of wind and string instruments: up to 4,000rpm it emits the engine’s primary firing frequency of 300Hz; this changes to 400 to 500Hz as the engine revs climb to 6,000rpm; and a peak is reached at 600Hz as the engine wails towards its 9,000rpm red line.

The air intake is made from a porous duct material to generate bass to mid-range tones. The LFA development team called this acoustic effect Resonated Complex Harmony.

The engine’s induction and exhaust soundtrack are channelled into the LFA’s cabin, so people on board can enjoy the experience as much as those on the outside. The main sound channel that pipes in the engine’s induction notes runs from the surge tank into the cabin below the main dashboard panel.

Two further sound channels run to an opening in the upper cowl on top of the dashboard structure and a reflector panel low down at the front of the cabin. Together with the primary sound channel, these put the driver at the centre of the LFA team calls the 3D Surround Sound Concept.
