  • Alpine A110 R Le Mans Limited Edition

The A110 R Le Mans marks a new chapter in the long association between two French motorsport icons.

With its A110 R Le Mans limited series, Alpine pays tribute to the world’s most prestigious endurance race to mark its centenary. The brand has been involved in endurance racing since the 1960s, thanks to its founder Jean Rédélé, right up to the famous victory of the A442 in 1978. Alpine stepped up its endurance racing with Signatech in LMP2 and then LMP1 and is now looking to the future by taking on the new LMDh Hypercar category from 2024.

“Alpine will unveil the A110 R Le Mans in action on the 24 Hours of Le Mans track the day before the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans®, joined by 100 Alpine owners. Limited to 100 units, this iconic limited series follows in the legendary footsteps of the GTA Le Mans, combining sophisticated aerodynamics with an incredible power-to-weight ratio, as did the Alpine M63, the first Alpine to compete at Le Mans in 1963. The A110 R Le Mans is the most radical A110 celebrating the most radical competition,” explains Emmanuel Al Nawakil, VP, Alpine Sales, Network and Launching.

PERFORMANCE: A RADICAL VISION OF RACING BORN FROM COMPETITION

Based on the A110 R, it features all the carbon components on the roof, wheels and interior with monocoque Sabelt® Track bucket seats. It also incorporates a carbon wing evoking the endurance racing cars style and Alpine Elf Endurance Team’s A480 design. Lightweight components, already used on the A110 R, contribute to its high level of performance with an acceleration time from 0 to 62 mph of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph on track.

The A110 R Le Mans limited series comes with a Road & Track chock, an innovation patented by Alpine, which lowers and stiffens the car by 5% for even better stability on the track. This technical development, coupled with a specific suspension setting, enhances performance on the long Mulsanne straight and in the fast corners of the 24-Hours circuit.

ULTRA-SPORTY DESIGN EXPRESSING BOLDNESS AND AERODYNAMICS ON THE 24 HEURES DU MANS CIRCUIT®

The A110 R Le Mans is recognisable by its exclusive white and blue 24 Heures du Mans® livery. A thin double line of blue and white is applied to the front bonnet, roof and rear wing in a reference to racing, complemented by the blue fins. A blue piping strip distinguishes the carbon wheels, which are open at the rear for even greater braking endurance, whilst the shark fin on the carbon rear window is a reference to the A480 which competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans®.

This emblematic limited series receives the official 24 Hours of Le Mans® signature on the front spoilers, side sills and microfibre headrest pads of the Sabelt® Track bucket seats. In the ultimate nod to Le Mans, the layout of the 24 Hours circuit is subtly laser-engraved on the sun visor.

Lastly, the A110 R Le Mans bears a numbered plate from the Dieppe factory with the official 24 Hours of Le Mans® signature to mark the 100 examples of this iconic version of the A110 R.

ENJOY AN EXCEPTIONAL ALPINE EXPERIENCE WITH THE A110 R LE MANS

Future A110 R Le Mans owners will join Alpine’s ‘Band of Racers’. They will have exclusive access to the Alpine Elf Endurance Team facilities in 2024 and an opportunity to take a lap of the track, in its complete specification, for an unforgettable experience in their A110 R Le Mans on the morning before the start of the race.

  • Bentley Continental GT Le Mans Collection

Bentley celebrates its sixth victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the race’s centenary with a limited edition collection of Continental GT Coupés and Continental GTC’s. The Le Mans Collection offers unique features inside and out, echoing the design of the Speed 8 #7 that won in 2003. This heartfelt tribute is a collaboration between Bentley and its personal commissioning division, Mulliner.

    Exterior

Mulliner’s designers studied the winning Speed 8 of 2003 to create the Le Mans Collection. Each of the Continental GT’s and Continental GTC’s in the collection is finished in Verdant green, with a Moonbeam racing stripe across the bonnet (and Coupé roof). The Blackline specification pays homage to the black and green livery of the Speed 8, while the carbon-fibre Styling specification body components are finished in black with a subtle pinstripe in Moonbeam. The lower front bumper, wing mirror caps, and rear ‘horseshoe’ area beneath the bootlid spoiler are all in Beluga black. The cars also feature black 22-inch ten-spoke wheels covering carbon ceramic brakes and red brake calipers.

    Interior

The interiors of the Le Mans Collection Continental GT and Continental GTC are luxurious and sporty. The bespoke 2003 wreath welcome lamp greets passengers into a cockpit trimmed in Beluga hide. Performance-bred napped Dynamica fabric covers the seat faces, while contrast seat stitching and seatbelts in Hotspur add relief to the interior’s monochrome color scheme. The steering wheel, trimmed in hide and Dynamica, features Hotspur contrast stitching and a six o’clock accent tab.

The dual-finish veneer on the fascia and door waist rails are Piano Black and high-gloss carbon fiber, with a fine chrome pinstripe separating the two. The pinstripe flows seamlessly from one side to the other, a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship in every Bentley.

    Bespoke Details

The Le Mans Collection Bentleys are replete with bespoke details. Speed 8 sill plates and six-wreath treadplates greet occupants on entering the interior. The fascia displays the six-wreath emblem inlaid into high-gloss carbon fiber, marking each of the six outright victories recorded by Bentley at Le Mans between 1924 and 2003.

    Performance

The Le Mans Collection Continental GT and GTC boast Bentley’s renowned 6.0-litre W12 TSI engine, delivering 659 PS (650 bhp) and an extraordinary 900 Nm (664 lb.ft) of torque. With exceptional handling, this results in a top speed of 208 mph (335 km/h) and 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds). The limited edition features Bentley Dynamic Ride and three-chamber active air suspension with adaptive damping, providing a formidable foundation to build upon. The new Carbon Ceramic Brakes, Variable Electronic Stability Control, All Wheel Steering, and an Electronic Limited Slip Differential give this collection of ultimate Grand Tourers a level of agility, performance, and ride quality as expected from a car with such heritage.

  • Porsche Won the 2015 Le Mans Race After 17 Years of Absence!

Porsche has won the legendary Le Mans 24-Hours race for 2015 season. And now they are back since their last victory back in 1998. The drivers in the victorious Porsche #19 were indeed the Formula 1 celebrity Nico Hülkenberg, Nick Tendy and Earl Bamber. They demonstrated the best time in the 395 laps and were able to finish first among all other competitors.

The #19, that started from the third position achieved some incredible positions throughout the night time and scored some incredible results with Hülkenberg and Tandy. In fact, they managed to get onto the first positions after some technical issues made the vehicle get out of the road for some time.

But after the issues Bamber got behind the wheel and managed to get rid of Audi drivers in the early hours of the day, after Audi drivers had to make numerous stops. This allowed Porsche team to get a sort of double victory, after #17 finished at second place.

In fact, last on the hall of fame stepped the Audi #7 drivers, who battled with Porsche #19 throughout the night, but some technical difficulties made them stop for revisions, which is the reason why Audi pilots had to step on the third position.

In fact, Audi #8 crossed the finish line on fourth position, while Porsche #18 made it on the fifth position and after that Toyota #2, Audi #9 and Toyota #1 followed.

We all hope, that this is only the start of a great occasions for celebrations for Porsche team!

  • Alpine Celebration Concept Is Here! We All Wonder What it Has to Offer.

Alpine Celebration is an unique and stylish vehicle, which was released as part of the 60th anniversary of the brand, founded by Jean Rédélé. The surprising comeback is here on the eve of the 82rd edition of the world’s toughest race Le Mans 24-Hours!

The race itself attracts more than 250,000 motor racing fans, which makes it one of the most popular and most anticipated event in the motor sport world. As you know, the event blends sports, human abilities and technology since 1923. And now there are more than 80 million TV viewers from nearly 200 countries and about 3 million followers of the website and the social media.

And this is why Alpine’s unveiling needs to be classy and worthy for all the fans of the event.

The vehicle’s idea is influenced by all the Alpine’s motorsport heritage. The Celebration model is a stylish two-seater coupe, that demonstrates some elegant lines with deep blue color scheme. In fact, this is the same blue painting, that had and the Alpine prototypes, that won the race back in 2013.

The Alpine Celebration manages to remind everyone the wonderful style of Alpines, but at the same time adds and some modern features, that make it really elegant. In fact, the low profile, sloping, creased bonnet, sculpted sides and distinctive rear window are clearly inspired by models line the A110.

As we all can see, the beauty and style of the Celebration model rely on the simplicity. The vehicle demonstrates a lot of things about brand’s heritage. It comes with familiar style, but somehow twisted with a modern manner. The carbon details underline the high-tech components of the car, while the front spoiler, the side sill and the rear air intakes demonstrate confidence and determination.

The seemingly floating spoiler expresses strength and confidence, while the sharp lines and the mirrors tell a story of dynamics and flexibility. And of course, there is the well-known Alpine arrowed “A”, visible on the air intake grille, sides and roof.

With incredible style and significance, the Alpine Celebration has really a lot to demonstrate.

  • Audi Brings Together All Le Mans Winner Models

With the 29 days until the Le Mans 24 Hours event, Audi is preparing for battle for its 14th victory in world’s hardest race. As you might know, Audi has won the race 13 times since 2000. And now the team is preparing for one more try. Another interesting fact is that Audi assembled all of the Le Mans winning modes for a big group photo.

The victorious start was set with Audi R8 in 2000. The winning model featured simple design to ensure quick repairs. A year later, in 2001, FSI technology made it through the development of engines. The gasoline direct injection and the optimized consumption played its role: between 2000 and 2005 Audi has won Le Mans race five times.

SEE ALSO: Audi TT Clubsport Debuts at Wörthersee

In 2006 Audi came with another innovative system. The R10 TDI was the first Le Mans winner with diesel power. Something more. Ever since then, Audi relies only on diesel engines for the race.

In fact, the R15 TDI is known and for one more event. It broke the 39-years record at La Sarthe in 2010. And as you know, a year later in 2011 the Audi R18 TDI debuted. The latest car become an instant winner, because of the aerodynamics and the incredible fuel efficiency.

And since then, Audi LMP1 cars have been designated as R18. The 2012 R18 e-Tron Quattro is the first Audi hybrid sports car, that marked the next big step. The brand set the milestone at Le Mans in 2013, when won one more time with upgraded version of the model. With a V6 TDI engine in the rear and with the hybrid system at the front, this car dominated the race. Since then Audi continues to work hard and improve the hybrid technology. In 2014 it won one more time with even faster laps, but with lesser fuel consumption: it used 22% lesser fuel energy, compared to the last race.

We wish Audi team good luck and to be even more successful not only at Le Mans race, but also in the field of producing technology.

  • Jaguar unveils continuation E-Type vehicle

    Jaguar-Lightweight_thumbJaguar-Lightweight_651

The famous car maker Jaguar has unveiled the prototype of its continuation Lightweight E—Type vehicle, six of which will be built and sold.

Jaguar announced in May 2014 that it would create six continuation Lightweight E-Type vehicles, each built by Jaguar Heritage, part of Jaguar Land Rover’s new Special Operations division. Each of the six cars will be built to the specification of the last Lightweight E-Type delivered in 1964 and will be hand-crafted at a new Heritage facility located at the spiritual home of the E-Type, Browns Lane in Coventry, England. The cars will be sold as competition vehicles and all will be suitable for FIA homologation for historic motorsport purposes.

These six cars are special – they are the “missing” six vehicles from the “Special GT E-Type” project, which originally started in February 1963 with the objective of building 18 cars. Only 12 of the aluminum-bodied Lightweight E-Type vehicles were eventually built and the remaining six designated chassis numbers have lain dormant, until now. The six new cars will carry these unused Lightweight E-Type chassis numbers. A race winner in the hands of a variety of famous drivers during its competitive career, the car achieved worldwide fame, and today, original examples are highly sought after.

The upcoming Lightweight E-Type will come with an aluminum body shell that reduces the car weight by 250 lbs (114 kg) versus the production steel bodywork. Although no modern materials and build methods will be used the new vehicles will have advanced technology applied to ensure the highest quality and most faithful rendition of the Lightweight E-Type. Using advanced scanning technology, the inner and outer surfaces of a Lightweight body shell were digitally mapped. The resulting detailed scan, which recorded dimensions and shape down to a fraction of a millimeter, was assessed to validate how the body was assembled in the 1960s. This also revealed how consistent the structure was side-to-side, and how it could be engineered today to produce the highest quality results.

There are 230 individual elements in the body of the continuation Lightweight E-Type. About 75 per cent of them are made in-house at Jaguar Land Rover but some of them are delivered by external partners of the company. The aluminum used is almost the same when compared to the material used for the first cars. The aluminum body will be completed with the addition of an aluminum hood, doors and trunk lid. An aluminum hard top is standard, just like in the original.

The new Lightweight E-Type will have an engine, based on the 3,868 cc (236 cu. in.) engine, which won Le Mans in 1957 in the D-Type. A similar cylinder head is used, but in place of the D-Type’s cast iron block, Jaguar introduced an aluminum block with steel liners for the Lightweight E-Type, which substantially reduced the amount of weight over the front wheels. A dry sump lubrication system reduces oil windage, maintains oil pressure during fast cornering and allows for higher oil capacity. The compression ratio is 10:1 and the car also comes with three 45 DCOE carburetors. This results in over 300 horsepower (221 kW) and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque at 4500 rpm. The power is transferred to the road via a lightweight, low inertia flywheel, a single-plate clutch, and a close-ratio, four-speed, fully-synchronized manual gearbox. The standard rear axle ratio is 3.31:1 and a variety of final drive ratios will be available. All Lightweight E-Type vehicles will be delivered with the Powr-Lok limited-slip differential.

The car will be built at the Jaguar Land Rover facility in Whitley, England where it is mated to its tubular engine sub-frame and then shipped to the JLR Gaydon facility for painting. It is then taken to Jaguar Heritage facility at Browns Lane where the car receives its’ powertrain, suspension, brakes, steering, electrical items, instrument panel and soft trim. This process takes place in a dedicated work area close to where the original Lightweight E-Type vehicles were assembled. No word on pricing and availability though.

  • Ready for Le Mans 2012: Team Chevrolet

Chevy-Team-Le-Mans-thumbThe 24 Hours Le Mans is a testing, excruciating, nerve wrecking and even deadly endurance race. It is literally a 24 hour race and at the least two drivers need need to participate in each team. At the finish line, one might think there’s a big sigh of relief for all participants. It is however, more or less a 15 minutes if glory type of thing.

Here’s the story behind the scenes from the Chevrolet Team point of view. As soon as one race ends, it’s back to the drawing board again – what went wrong, how can they do that better, should they be like this next year? And that’s not even half the story. One would not imagine that the logistics of a car (or several of them) can be so complex. Mind you we are talking about a Le Mans car which has an entourage that can barely fit in a warehouse.

Check out these mini series and more around the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans event that’s coming to you this weekend.
