Zero Emission Freedom: 4xe is the new 4×4

For two years in a row, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe remains the best-selling PHEV in the United States. The 2024 Wrangler 4xe is another step towards the Jeep brand’s goal of Zero Emission Freedom and becoming the greenest SUV brand worldwide by manufacturing capable and sustainable Jeep SUVs.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe lineup, together with a variety of electrified powertrains, will aid the Jeep brand in achieving the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan. By 2030, 50% of Jeep sales in the United States will be battery-electric vehicles, and all Jeep vehicles in Europe will be fully electric. The entire North American Jeep lineup will be electrified by the end of 2025. The objective is to reduce Stellantis’ global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve net carbon zero by 2038 while leading the transportation sector.

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler offers the broadest range of powertrain choices in the premium off-road category. With options ranging from the 49 MPGe electrified 4xe plug-in hybrid to the V-8-powered 470-horsepower Rubicon 392, the Wrangler provides customers with the freedom to choose the best propulsion system to suit their lifestyle.

The 4xe lineup, high-performance Rubicon 392, and 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine all come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the 3.6-liter gas engine offers both a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

    • 2.0-liter turbocharged PHEV 4xe: 375 horsepower, 470 lb.-ft. of torque

The 2024 Wrangler raises the bar with upgraded features such as the all-new next-generation Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle on Rubicon models, standard rear locker and 33-inch tires on Willys, and the new Rubicon X model with standard 35-inch tires, integrated off-road camera and steel bumpers. With the 2024 Wrangler, customers can get full-float axles directly from the factory, which are typically found on heavy-duty commercial trucks. The Rubicon’s first full-float rear axle design includes a wheel hub assembly separate from the axle shaft, with a spindle bolted to the axle tube that supports the wheel hub via a pair of wheel bearings.

The full-float axle design transfers the vehicle’s weight to the axle tube rather than the axle shaft, which only transmits power to the wheel hub, resulting in only torsional loads on the axle shaft. The stronger, more durable full-float construction allows for a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds on Rubicon 2.0-liter and 3.6-liter automatic models.

The Wrangler Rubicon’s impressive off-road capabilities are due to a comprehensive list of off-road features that include:

    • First Dana 44 HD full-float solid rear axle
    • Rock-Trac part-time transfer case with 4:1 4LO ratio
    • Electronic front sway-bar disconnect
    • Tru-Lok front- and rear-axle lockers
    • 17-inch aluminum wheels with 33-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires

The Rubicon X, which is a more high-end version of the Rubicon, includes:

    • Rock-Trac full-time transfer case
    • Integrated off-road camera
    • Steel bumpers
    • Xtreme 35 Package with beadlock-capable wheels and 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires (2.0-liter and 3.6-liter automatic powertrains)

The 2024 Wrangler Rubicon 392, now with 470 horsepower, includes standard features such as the Xtreme 35 Package, 4.56 axle ratio and Selec-Trac full-time transfer case with 4LO ratio of 2.72:1. Additionally, the 2024 Rubicon models offer a factory-installed Warn winch with an 8,000-pound-capacity, mounted in a steel front bumper with removable end caps.

In 2024, the Wrangler Willys enhances its 4×4 capability by including a Tru-Lok rear locker, steel rock rails, trailer tow, and heavy-duty electrical group as standard. Additionally, the vehicle now comes with larger 33-inch tires instead of the previous 32-inch ones. Furthermore, the Willys 4xe is equipped with a Selec-Trac full-time transfer case with a 4LO ratio of 2.72:1.

The Wrangler High Altitude is back for 2024 with new features like Sky One-Touch powertop, 12-way power and heated front seats, integrated front camera and Selec-Trac full-time transfer case. It also has a unique look with 20-inch wheels and body-color bumpers. High Altitude models introduce the exclusive new Mantis Green interior color on the instrument panel mid bolster and Nappa leather seats.

The new 2024 Wrangler has a body-on-frame design and a five-link suspension system, which provides incredible capability, refined on-road dynamics and advanced safety features. To protect vital vehicle components while on the trail, Wrangler has four skid plates. Willys and Rubicon models have tubular steel rock rails to prevent potential body damage on the trail.

To reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency, the Wrangler uses lightweight aluminum closures, such as the doors, hinges, hood, fender flares, windshield frame, and magnesium swing gate.

The 2024 Wrangler still uses the dependable five-link coil suspension system, with the front suspension featuring two upper and two lower high-strength steel control arms for longitudinal control, and a cross car track bar for lateral axle control. The five-link rear suspension has a similar setup with two upper and two lower high-strength steel control arms for longitudinal axle control, and a track bar for lateral axle control.

The front and rear full-width high-strength steel track bars keep the axle from moving laterally during suspension travel, with minimal angle change. The shocks are calibrated to balance on-road handling with off-road capability, providing excellent ride comfort, body-roll control, and dynamic handling. Additionally, Rubicon models feature an electronic front sway-bar disconnect for extra wheel travel when necessary.
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler prioritizes safety with over 85 active and passive safety and security features available. Standard features include front and side airbags, while second-row outboard seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters have been added for 2024. Sport S and above models now come with forward collision warning and advanced cruise control with stop as standard. Blind-spot and cross-path detection and ParkSense rear park-assist system come standard on some models and are available on others. All models come with a ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, traction control, and electronic stability control (ESC) with electronic roll mitigation.

Advanced propulsion systems combine power and efficiency

    4xe

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, two electric motors, and a 400-volt battery pack to provide maximum efficiency for the hybrid propulsion components. This powertrain delivers an impressive 49 MPGe and up to 21 miles of pure-electric operation, making it the most advanced powertrain ever developed for a Jeep Wrangler.

Moreover, all Wrangler 4xe models come equipped with a Jeep 4xe Power Box that has four 120-volt outlets capable of outputting 30 amps of power, allowing the battery pack to charge external devices such as tablets and phones. This feature is new for the 2024 model year.

The following components of the Wrangler 4xe powertrain produce 375 horsepower (280 kW), 470 lb.-ft. (637 Nm) of torque, and 49 MPGe:

    1. 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4
    2. Engine-mounted motor generator unit
    3. Transmission-mounted motor generator unit integrated into eight-speed automatic transmission
    4. 400-volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion, nickel manganese cobalt battery pack

The driver can customize the hybrid powertrain of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe using its E Selec modes to suit different types of trips, such as pure-electric operation for daily commutes, city driving or off-road exploration.

    • Hybrid:In the default mode, the powertrain combines the torque from the 2.0-liter engine and electric motor. This mode prioritizes the use of battery power before adding propulsion from the 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 when the battery reaches a minimum state of charge.
    • Electric: The powertrain uses only electric power with zero emissions until the battery charge drops to its minimum or the driver wants more torque. When the driver requests more torque, such as when pressing the throttle fully, the 2.0-liter engine is activated.
    • eSave:This mode prioritizes using the 2.0-liter engine for power and saves the battery charge for later use in situations like EV off-roading or urban areas where using an internal combustion engine is limited. During eSave, the driver can also choose between Battery Save and Battery Charge through the Hybrid Electric Pages in the Uconnect monitor.

    2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine

The standard eight-speed automatic transmission mates to the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with engine stop-start (ESS), which is rated at 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine uses a twin-scroll, low-inertia turbocharger with an electronically actuated waste gate and features a turbo mounted directly to the cylinder head for improved durability. A dedicated cooling circuit lowers the temperature of the intake air, throttle body and turbocharger. The 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine meets SULEV 30 emissions standards and features Double Overhead Camshafts (DOHC), dual independent camshaft timing, and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation (C-EGR) system, allowing for high performance and lower fuel consumption.

    3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine
The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine comes with ESS as standard equipment and is designed to offer a wide torque range with a focus on low-end torque, which is essential for extreme off-roading. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission by default, but an optional eight-speed automatic transmission is available.

    6.4-liter V-8 engine

The 6.4-liter V-8 engine is specifically designed for the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 and produces 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine delivers impressive performance with almost 75% of peak torque available just above engine idle speed, allowing for a 4.5-second 0-60 mph time and steep grade crawling. The V-8 engine features a cast iron cylinder block, aluminum heads, active intake manifold, variable camshaft timing, twin spark plugs per cylinder, sodium-filled exhaust valves, hollow-stem intake valves, and piston oil cooling jets. Additionally, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 engine is equipped with a rear-sump oil pan, high-mount alternator, and free-flowing exhaust manifolds.

The Fuel Saver Technology with cylinder deactivation switches to four-cylinder mode during light engine loads to save fuel. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 has a high-performance pump that keeps the V-8 engine fueled even under extreme conditions. The functional hood scoop provides the engine with cool outside air for better performance. The Hydro-Guide air intake system ensures the V-8 engine gets fresh air in any terrain and weather. The system features a tri-level ducting system and a one-way drain that separates water from the engine’s incoming air, allowing the Wrangler Rubicon 392 to cross water up to 34 inches deep without worries.

The standard active dual-mode exhaust produces a unique and exciting sound by opening valves in the exhaust system under high engine loads to reduce pressure. Drivers can also activate the system with a button, and the dual-pipe performance exhaust features distinctive quad tailpipes.

The TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission offers high torque capacity for quick and smooth gear changes in both normal and performance driving situations.

  • Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Concept

The Jeep design team received a great response for the Tuscadero exterior paint color used in the 2021 Jeep Wrangler models. Therefore, they decided to make it even more impressive. They aimed to make the color appear tougher than before.

As a result, they created the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe concept, which combines the powerful electrified off-road capability with a bold and unapologetic color palette, making it a perfect platform for any adventure.

The Jeep concept has a striking pink-colored exterior with Gloss Black accents on the front grille and headlamp bezels. The signature seven-slot grille is from the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary model and has a custom hood graphic with a tone-on-tone print that connects with the interior theme.

The interior of the Jeep concept follows the same tough theme. The custom leather seats have magenta accents under the animal print surface. Glossy black patent leather and metal grommets add extra style to the seats. The magenta color is also found on the door pulls, grab handles, gear shift, and transfer case shifter boots. The highlight of the interior is a black patent leather dash panel with a zipper trim that conceals a layer of pink velvet.

To enhance the off-road capability of the vehicle, an AccuAir air suspension kit has been added. This kit can be adjusted to provide enough space for the large 37-inch tires that are mounted on custom 17-inch high-gloss black American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) Borah wheels. The vehicle is also equipped with front and rear bumpers, differential covers, and a Warn Zeon winch, all from AEV.

  • Jeep Wrangler Magneto 3.0 Concept

The Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept has come to Moab for the third time to test the boundaries of 4×4 electrification. The Jeep Magneto 1.0 concept was introduced in 2021 as a fully capable BEV that combined stealthiness, quietness, quickness and rock-climbing capability. Jeep engineers and designers worked together to create an environmentally responsible vehicle that still provided high levels of efficiency, extreme performance on and off-road, and Jeep’s 4×4 capability.

The Jeep Magneto is a custom-built vehicle based on a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. It features a powerful axial flux electric motor that operates up to 6,000 rpm, providing up to 273 lb.-ft. of torque and 285 horsepower. The motor is paired with a six-speed manual transmission for maximum control.

In 2022, the Jeep Magneto 2.0 concept was revealed with even more impressive performance capabilities. The peak amperage in the propulsion system was increased to 600 amps, allowing for instant delivery of up to 850 lb.-ft. of peak torque and 625 horsepower, making it capable of tackling the toughest rock-climbing obstacles.

The Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept has received several updates this year. It now features a more efficient motor that increases the torque output and updated programming, resulting in a 20% increase in energy and range.

There are also three new driver-selectable functions that take advantage of the benefits of a fully electric powertrain for off-roading:

    • Output select allows the driver to choose between two power settings (standard: 285 horsepower/273 lb.-ft. of torque; maximum: 650 horsepower/900 lb.-ft. of torque)
    • Two-stage power regeneration mode allows for normal driving or enhanced brake regeneration using the electric motor when engaged.
    • Aggressive hill descent mode can be selected in low range to enable true ‘one pedal’ off-road driving in serious rock-crawling situations.

The Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept has several upgrades to improve its off-road capabilities. It includes powerful Dynatrac 60 front axles (5.38:1 ratio), Dynatrac 80 rear axles (5.38:1 ratio), 20-inch off-road beadlock wheels, 40-inch mud terrain tires, and a custom 3-inch (7.6 cm) lift.

The Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept has been modified for improved accessibility, with a six-inch (15 cm) extension to the door opening and a 60mm shift of the B-pillar. The front fender has also been stretched back by two inches (5 cm). The windshield is now tilted back by 12 degrees for a “chopped” roof look, without sacrificing front glass length. Additionally, a custom anti-roll bar has been added to enhance accessibility.

The Jeep Magneto 3.0 features an updated paint scheme that pays tribute to all three versions of the concept vehicle. The exterior now features more vibrant details, including red accents. Inside, the front seats have been reupholstered in blue leather with red stitching to match the exterior. The rear seats have been removed, and the floor has been Rhino-lined in Surf Blue for added durability and functionality.

  • Jeep Gladiator Sideburn Concept

The Jeep Gladiator Sideburn concept is a cool off-road vehicle that comes in Solar Flash Yellow. It has new tools to make off-road adventures even more exciting.

Under the hood, there’s a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, and the vehicle is equipped with a JPP 2-inch lift kit and BILSTEIN performance shock absorbers. These BILSTEIN shocks have remote reservoirs that provide extra cooling and help the Jeep handle rough terrain better.

The Sideburn also has black HRE 17-by-9-inch FT1 six-spoke wheels and 37-by-13-inch BF Goodrich tires at all four corners. Overall, it’s a great vehicle for off-road enthusiasts looking for an adventure.

The Gladiator Sideburn concept has a special custom-designed grille guard that measures 4 feet by 1 foot. It protects the seven-slot front grille, which was taken from the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary edition.

The grille guard can fold down to create a unique bumper bench, perfect for two people to relax on during off-road trips. Beneath the grille guard is a modified Rubicon bumper with a Warn winch.

Also new to the Gladiator Sideburn is a custom JPP limb-riser that uses heavy-duty cables to keep loose branches and brush from hitting the hood and windshield. This helps to prevent potential damage while off-roading.

The JPP by Mopar design team listened to customer feedback and added removable 11-inch TYRI rectangular LED lights to each of the Gladiator Sideburn’s roof panels. The lights are suspended by custom bracketry in the concept-light fairing and can be quickly disconnected.

The Gladiator Sideburn also has a concept JPP Sport Bar that’s made from carbon fiber and steel. It has bed steps on both sides, making it easy to access the space between the cabin and the bed. The sport bar also has a mid-shelf with tie downs for portable storage totes, which can be locked and secured via eight tie-down loops. Additionally, there are four T-track rails on the upper part of the sport bar for easy installation of bike, kayak or other roof-mounted cargo systems.

The bed of the Gladiator Sideburn concept is one-of-a-kind. It has integral Molle panels above and behind the wheel flares that provide extra storage space. There are also RotoPaX containers specifically designed for carrying liquids on off-road adventures. Plus, the bed has a modified Mopar bed-mounted spare tire carrier that can hold a 37-inch wheel and tire.

The custom tailgate includes a back-up camera and CHMSL, and has three Molle-panel openings for even more storage options. The center opening features a custom floating Jeep badge.

The Sideburn Gladiator concept has a open-air feel that’s even better with the JPP half doors. Plus, JPP side steps and grab handles make it easy to get into the elevated cabin.

The open cabin has seats, armrests, shift boots, parking brake handle, and half-door pull straps that are covered in a dark red-brown Vienesse Relicate Nappa leather with Soul-stopper thread accents. The thread accents are also on the top pad of the instrument panel and steering wheel.

The custom instrument panel bezels on the Sideburn Gladiator concept have a 3D topographical map of Moab scenery, finished in matte-black with gloss dark-silver trails. Other accents in the cabin are painted with Atomic Silver matte paint.

Stainless-steel JPP pedal covers give traction for off-roading, and a concept JPP heavy-duty vinyl floor system (specifically for the JT Gladiator model) with built-in floor drains make it easy to hose out the interior.

  • Jeep Cherokee 1978 4xe Concept

This year’s Resto-mod concept build is inspired by a trip down memory lane. In 1974, the Jeep Cherokee (SJ) was introduced as a sporty, two-door version of the Wagoneer. It had bucket seats, a sports steering wheel, and racy detailing aimed at attracting younger, adventurous drivers.

The following year, the Wide-Track option became available with significant enhancements such as exterior stripes, bigger tires, 3-inch wider axles, larger front and rear wheel cutouts, and Dana 44 front and rear axles. The interior also got upgraded with more luxurious features.

Now, we have arrived at the present day of this journey celebrating concept vehicles. To honor the Jeep Cherokee SJ – the pioneering SUV with both on- and off-road capabilities – the Jeep design team aimed to modernize the legendary full-size SUV with a fresh approach.

The Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept started as a 1978 Jeep Cherokee, which was artfully combined with a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe. The aim was to elevate the performance of the original Jeep Cherokee SJ, and this philosophy is reflected in the design of this concept vehicle.

They extensively altered the original body, blending the classic proportions with a colorful 1970s-inspired paint scheme. At first glance, the ’78 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept resembles an old Jeep Cherokee SJ, but it has been converted into a contemporary, electrified, off-road powerhouse.

The ’78 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept has a powerful Jeep Wrangler 4xe powertrain, which includes two electric motors, a high-voltage battery pack, and a high-tech 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine. It offers a distinctive on- and off-road driving experience. The power is transmitted to 37-inch tires on custom 17-inch “slotted mag” style wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4:1 transfer case, providing ample power.

The custom interior of the ’78 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept showcases low-back leather bucket seats. A four-point safety cage replaced the rear bench seat, and a full-size spare tire is stored in the rear cargo area in case of any extreme off-road adventures.

  • Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept

The Jeep Scrambler (CJ-8) was the first compact truck with a convertible top introduced in 1981. It was highly capable and versatile, similar to the CJ-7 but with a longer 103-inch wheelbase and extended rear overhang for more cargo space.

The Jeep Scrambler 392 concept is a modern take on the CJ-8 with a powerful upgrade. Unlike the original CJ-8, the concept features a 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine that delivers 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Jeep Scrambler 392 concept began as a four-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and now has custom carbon fiber bodywork to increase its off-road capabilities. The new two-door design includes a lowered roof and a laid-back windshield, giving it a unique look that pays tribute to hotrods with chopped tops. Plus, it maintains its open-air personality.

The Jeep Scrambler 392 concept comes with an AccuAir air suspension kit for the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator, allowing drivers to adjust the suspension lift from 1.5 inches up to 5.5 inches. This can be done through an in-cab controller or long-range Bluetooth on a wireless device, making it highly customizable.

The rear quarter panel of the Jeep Scrambler 392 concept is sculpted to highlight the wider rear flares and door aperture. The bodywork is updated with a new carbon-fiber hood, front fender flare, and a tinted clear insert on the hood to showcase the powerful engine. The concept also has custom lightweight front and rear bumpers and new fender flares for added clearance for larger tires and wheels.

The Jeep Scrambler 392 concept has custom 20-inch rims and 40-inch tires, with tow hooks and rims finished in Brass Monkey paint. It’s painted in Sublime green on the outside, and the interior features custom seats with plaid blue inserts and green stitching.

  • Jeep CJ Surge Concept

Custom designed and engineered to explore an efficient battery-electric propulsion system for classic Jeep models, the Jeep CJ Surge electromod concept allows Mopar designers and engineers to gain a better understanding of potential battery-electric vehicle (BEV) parts kit applications, leading to a future propulsion-system offering for enthusiasts to build or convert classic and current cars and trucks into zero-emission vehicles.

A true Jeep 4×4, the CJ Surge concept is powered by a custom propulsion system. Under the hood, a scalable 400-volt, 200-kW Electric Drive Module mounts to the frame with custom-designed solid motor mounts. Power to all four wheels is supplied by 24 lithium-ion battery modules and torque runs through a two-speed Jeep transfer case with selectable gearing. Battery modules are enclosed in a custom shell mounted in the rear of the passenger cabin.

Riding high on 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires paired with a 2-inch lift kit, the stunning Copper Canyon body stands out with gloss black and Surf Blue Surge graphics and bodyside striping. The concept hood and bezel are painted gloss black, along with the iconic seven-slot Jeep grille.

The CJ Surge concept rolls on matte black 18-by-9-inch Black Rhino Solid wheels that carry Surf Blue accents on the rim beads and ride below the oversized concept fender flares. Front and rear Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) Dana 44 Crate axles help the CJ Surge concept easily crawl over rocks and boulders.

A JPP Wrangler JK Rubicon Bumper Kit carries a JPP Rubicon Warn winch up front and is flanked on both sides by Surf Blue tow hooks and amber LED fog lamps. Underbody protection is provided by JPP Rubicon skid and front-bumper plates and concept JPP rock rails. A custom BEV charge port is located just behind the driver-side door opening.

Looking out from the 2-inch cropped windshield, the driver and passenger are perched in custom seats installed with concept seat risers. Both seats feature Surf Blue stitching on the black Sedoso cloth and houndstooth fabric inserts.

A Wrangler JK center console features a rotary shifter knob, while Mopar instrument-panel gauges include a charge indicator to let the driver know how much battery life remains.

The cockpit of the CJ Surge concept is surrounded by a custom-built roll cage, while a custom-shaped bikini top offers valuable shade and cover from the elements. No JPP concept would be complete without a set of Mopar all-weather floor mats.

To cap off the interior touches, the custom steering wheel is adorned by a unique JPP horn pad badge.

  • Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept

At the Paris Motor Show today the Jeep® brand provided an extra thrill and surprise for its global audience by revealing the Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept.

Announcing the 4×4 Concept at the finale of the Jeep brand press conference, Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO, said: “The Avenger has been designed as a Jeep vehicle from the outset, and the all-electric 4×2 model already offers some of the best-in-class capabilities that identify the Jeep brand.”

“But we couldn’t help but wonder, what would happen if we injected the Jeep brand’s four-wheel drive electrified capabilities into a compact package, while retaining the brand’s unique design language, capability and personality?” he added as the Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept was introduced.

Exemplifying the ‘concentrated freedom’ ethos of the new Jeep Avenger, the 4×4 Concept blends, design, capability and innovation in a compact body. Eye-catching, fun, and distinctive, the new arrival will be added to Jeep’s range of 4xe models coming in the future.

Externally, the 4×4 Concept features tow hooks, wider bumpers and track, and is equipped with larger, exposed and more aggressive tyres. To further enhance the capability of the Jeep Avenger, the approach angle has been improved to 21 degrees, departure angle to 34 degrees and breakover angle to 20 degrees, thanks to the ground clearance which now exceeds 200mm.

The front end has additional protection, with thicker cladding and there are extra built-in flood lights to improve visibility when driving at night.

The Avenger 4×4 Concept displays a new lightweight roof cargo system concept that, with a special belt system, compresses the luggage on the roof and has scratch-proof protection along its entire length. The whole package is completed by an anti-reflective bonnet sticker and anti-scratch grille treatment for additional peace of mind when driving off-road.

The Avenger 4×4 Concept represents the ultimate expression of Jeep’s legendary capability, which has been enhanced by electrification, a combination that means customers can benefit from even more off-road capability, more fun and more freedom while driving in almost total silence.

Concluding the unveiling, Meunier said: “Here in Paris, we have shown that we have a full portfolio of new all-electric 4×4 capable Jeep models just around the corner, with a clear goal in mind: to become the number one electrified SUV brand in the world as we continue our path towards achieving our mission of Zero Emission Freedom.”

The full-electric Avenger joins a portfolio of Jeep vehicles which are 100 percent electrified in continental Europe.

  • Jeep Avenger

The compact Jeep Avenger spearheads the introduction of a portfolio of capable, fully electric vehicles right sized for Europe, and is a key component in a global electrification strategy as the brand moves towards becoming the world leader in zero-emission SUVs.

Designed and built as a Jeep vehicle from day one, the Avenger packs the Jeep DNA into a compact SUV with a unique combination of capability, style, functionality, and technology to satisfy the needs of ever-connected customers.

“The new Jeep Avenger represents a key milestone for the brand as it is the first of a portfolio of all-new Jeep BEVs to be introduced in Europe.” said Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO.  “It offers Jeep brand capability that is rightsized for the European market and at the Paris Motor Show, we are showcasing why it is a great all-electric Jeep brand alternative to current players in the B-SUV segment.”

Produced in the highly efficient Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland, the new Avenger is equipped with standard SelecTerrain and Hill Descent Control which, together with its outstanding approach and departure angles and the vehicle’s ground clearance, bring impressive levels of capability into the segment.

In terms of electrification, the Jeep Avenger is equipped with a new generation 400 Volt electric propulsion system which combines a new electric motor and a new battery.

Using a 100 kW Mode 4 cable in direct current connected to fast public charge, three minutes of charge is enough to provide travel distance of 30 km. Also, 24 minutes are sufficient to charge the batteries from 20 to 80% charge.

The new Avenger’s Mission in Europe

Developed with the specific needs of European customers in mind, the new Avenger is a compact SUV which, at just four meters in length, is positioned in the rapidly growing B-SUV the second biggest European segment in terms of volume.

In 2023, the B- SUV segment is expected to reach an annual total of 2.2 million sales, which accounts for one in five vehicles sold in Europe. The new Avenger is positioned under Renegade complementing the Jeep brand offering, in the B-SUV segment.

“The Jeep Avenger is the first zero emission SUV for the Jeep brand” said Antonella Bruno, Head of Jeep Europe in Stellantis, “It will be the new entry point to the Jeep range and will allow us to complete our SUV coverage and we expect it to become the bestselling model in our portfolio by 2024. Avenger adds another level of electrification to our offering and represents a further step in the Jeep brand’s evolution”.

“Jeep Avenger is emotional, fun, cool and it stands out from the crowd” she added.

The Jeep Avenger arrives in showrooms early next year, but customers in most European markets can already pre-book the exclusive Launch Edition, an eye-catching, fully equipped version, available at a monthly instalment at 249€.

This makes it a valuable and appealing choice for those who are looking for a zero-emission alternative from the Jeep brand away from the more traditional players in the segment. The new Jeep Avenger aims to expand the customer base targeting active lifestyle people looking for a capable and modern design with compact dimensions and spacious interiors.

    All-new electric powertrain

The Jeep Avenger has a new generation electric propulsion system which combines a new electric motor and a new battery.

Thanks to the high power and torque, in addition to a specific e-powertrain calibration, the new Avenger offers uncompromised driving enjoyment on- and off-road capability.

The second-generation 400 Volt electric powertrain is the first one to be launched by Emotors, a joint venture between Stellantis and Nidec Leroy-Somer Holding. It supplies 115 kW, corresponding to 156 horsepower, and 260 Nm of maximum torque.

The new 54 kWh battery, which is also produced by Stellantis, offers a high energy density and an excellent ratio between nominal and usable energy. Specifically, the battery pack is made up of 17 modules and 102 cells utilizing NMC 811 Lithium-Ion chemistry and delivers 400 km of range in the WLTP cycle, which becomes 550 km in the urban cycle.

The battery, which was tested for over 2 million kilometres, is extremely compact, non-intrusive and is found under the front and rear seats and the central tunnel. Furthermore, it is protected by a high ground clearance and underbody skid plates during off-road driving.

Recharging the new Avenger is extremely simple. Via a 100 kW Mode 4 cable in direct current, connected to fast public charge, three minutes of charge is enough to provide travel distance of 30 km; or 24 minutes is sufficient to charge the batteries from 20 to 80% charge.

Considering that European users travel 30 km on an average per day, it is likely that the vehicle can be driven for days before recharging. Meanwhile, with a 11 kW Mode 3 cable for alternating current connected to a Wallbox or public station, it is possible to ‘fill up’ (from 0% to 100%) in 5.5 hours.

    Foremost capability

An essential pillar of a Jeep SUV is its capability, which today includes a more ecological approach thanks to the 4xe hybrid plug-in technology and now fully electric powertrains.

The new Avenger is the first front-wheel drive Jeep vehicle equipped with standard Selec-Terrain® and Hill Descent Control which, together with the impressive approach and departure angles and the vehicle’s ground clearance, make it a benchmark in the segment.

The Selec-Terrain® system offers six modes: “Normal” for everyday driving; “Eco” to enhance range; “Sport” for more driving fun; “Snow” for maximum traction on icy roads or trails; “Mud” to optimise mud performance and to enhance grip; and “Sand” to limit the risk of becoming stuck on sandy soil.

The vehicle’s architecture reaches the highest levels of compactness possible without compromising any of the Jeep brand’s distinct characteristics.

The new Avenger is only 4,08 m long, which is 16 cm shorter than the Renegade. It has short front and rear overhangs which enhance its proportions. Additionally, its on-the-road presence is enhanced by larger wheels than would be expected from a vehicle of this size.

Thanks to the combination of short overhangs and large wheels, the Avenger offers the best ground clearance in the category (200 mm), as well as outstanding approach (20°), breakover (20°) and departure (32°) angles, which are essential for off-road driving but also useful in city life, for example when driving up a steep parking ramp.

    Contemporary Jeep Design

The Avenger follows a “design approach” offering a modern interpretation of Jeep design in a compact package. The front of the vehicle displays the iconic 7-slot grille, an authentic Jeep brand signature which has evolved from a vertical to a more horizontal pattern for functional efficiency.

The bent-over grille is positioned in front of the headlamps to protect them in the case of impact. The bulging fenders, another classic Jeep design element, offer a sense of strength and robustness while communicating a solid and imposing presence on and off-road.

The side view is marked by the classic trapezoidal wheel arches, designed to optimize wheel travel for maximum articulation. The vehicle features imposing 18-inch wheels, with a robust design and diamond cut finish, mounted on 690mm tires dimeter. The silhouette was carefully crafted to maximize the aero efficiency and convey a sense of dynamism, reinforced by a floating “C” pillar, which is a familiar trait within the current line-up.

In the rear, the vehicle features signature-lights inspired by the classic X fuel cans. This “X” is a recurring theme inside and outside via the “X-Camo”, a pattern which combines the concept of “camouflage” with the letter “X”.

    360 degrees of protection

In order to reduce any damage caused by low-speed impacts, which make up around 70% of cases in Europe, the new Avenger is equipped with skid plates, 360-degree cladding, and encased protected headlamps.

Thanks to these additions, it has been estimated that a customer can reduce potential accident damage costs by around €1,000. Specifically, the front headlamps are encased and positioned up high for protection in the case of low-speed impacts. Plus, the new SUV skid plates are made of polymer mould-in colour.

For example, if they are scratched, the damage is not visible. Also, in areas which are more exposed, including the doors, the cladding is even higher to offer extra protection.

    Functional and spacious interiors

The interior of the all-new Jeep Avenger continues the “design to function” premise. The clean and robust interior design, which is anchored by a lean dashboard, was inspired by the Jeep brand’s history and particularly by the Jeep Wrangler.

Once inside the vehicle, the eyes are immediately drawn to the upper part of the dashboard where a single horizontal function ‘beam’ which includes all the air vents, ambient lighting and a centrally located 10.25 inches touch screen, which can be seen by both the driver and passenger. The lower side of the dashboard is marked by a wide-open storage shell.

The new Avenger has unique details for this vehicle class such as leather seats which are electronically adjustable with a massage function, multicolour ambient light which reduces the strain on eyes during night driving, and a wide sunroof (late availability). The vehicle’s side lights remain visible when the rear hatch opens for greater protection and safety.

The central console has also been developed to maximize available usable space for driver and passenger, totalling 34 litres of frontal storage, which is an impressive figure considering the 15-litre average in the segment.

Designed to ensure the greatest interior storage space possible in a compact body, the new Avenger has the most in its category: 34-litres of front storage, which is an impressive figure considering the 15-litres average in the segment.

This extraordinary result was achieved by optimizing all the spaces and creating functional and spacious storage compartments, sufficient to store the contents of an entire aircraft cabin baggage inside them.

Designed with flexibility and modularity in mind, the central tunnel can be moved to fit the sizes of various objects or even be removed to make space for larger objects. A further useful space is available under the automatic transmission buttons and protected by a folding magnetic cover. In this space, a cell phone can be charged while simultaneously storing a 1.5-litre bottle of water.

Design to function rules have also been applied to the trunk. Its volume is among the best in the segment (380 litres) and its functionality can be seen in its sill height of the boot loading which has been lowered down to 720mm, the rear hatch width which has been increased to over one metre and the addition of a hands-free power liftgate which is not usual in the segment.

    State-of-the-art technology: always connected

Made for “always connected” customers, the new Jeep Avenger ensures a completely digital on-board experience. State-of-the-art infotainment is present on all versions, equipped with a 10.25-inch radio screen Uconnect Infotainment combined with full digital cluster available in two variants (seven and 10.25 inches).

The smartphone-like graphics is embedded in the Uconnect 10”. In addition, the system offers the possibility to physically mirror one’s own device on the radio via wireless Android Auto and Car Play; mix and match content to build your own interface (up to twelve widgets per page, up to six pages); embedded navigation by TomTom with enhanced natural voice recognition; and over-the-air updates.

The new Jeep Avenger also offers a suite of services and functionalities that users can take advantage of remotely. For example, thanks to the Jeep Mobile App, users can locate the location of their cars directly from their smartphones. Users can even lock and unlock their doors, check the battery level, set the climate functions and recharge the vehicle, as well interact directly with the Avenger through a vocal assistant.

    Advanced Safety Equipment

The Jeep Avenger offers a full array of safety feature. It boasts Level 2 autonomous driving, which automatically adjusts speed and trajectory, and makes use of Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering. In this way, the vehicle remains in the centre of the lane and at a safe distance from the vehicle preceding it in order to provide a serene driving experience. Plus, the Level 2 autonomous driving includes Traffic Jam Assist, for a relaxed and comfortable drive even in case of heavy traffic.

The new model also offers Traffic Sign Recognition, which reads and interprets road signs; Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, which slows the vehicle down to a halt to avoid (or mitigate) possible accidents; Drowsy Driver Alert, which alerts the driver when a moment of drowsiness affects attention; Blind Spot Monitoring which monitors a driver’s blind spot; Lane Keeping Assist, which alerts the driver when the car has gone out of the lane; 360° parking sensors with Active Park Assist; and 180° rear camera with drone view.

Built in the high-efficiency plant in Tychy, Poland

The Tychy Plant (Poland) – erected in 1972 – 1975 – occupies an area of more than 2.4 million square metres, of which production halls and service facilities account for 0.5 million square metres. The entire production cycle to transform coils of sheet metal into a finished car requires roughly twelve engineering hours and one car rolls off the assembly lines practically every 50 seconds.

The production at Tychy is organised to comply with the highest level of quality and has been awarded with the Bronze, Silver and Gold of the World Class Manufacturing program as a recognition of the constant improvement of products, process and service to remain an industry leader and provide the best choice for customers.

The plant operates a complete production cycle consisting of four stages: stamping – run by an outside supplier since 1998; welding – which proudly boasts 99.5% automation thanks to 921 robots working on the line; paint shop – also more than 90% automatic; and assembly production lines. The Tychy Plant has made an impressive 12.5 million vehicles since production launch in 1975 up to September 2022. Significant investments have been made in launching the B-SUV platform in Tychy.
