  • Junior Concours of Elegance returns with full force in 2021!

2021 Concours Of Elegance JuniorThe Concours d’Elegance, which gathers the world’s rarest and more bizarre vehicles, will see the return of the Junior Concours in 2021. On September 3-5, the event will welcome an array of beautiful hand-crafted half-size and three-quarter scale electric and petrol cars to sit alongside their bigger siblings.

Just like the full-size machines, the Junior Concours attendants are mostly handcrafted and will borrow the best from the world of motorsport. Audience will have the chance to witness cars like Porsche 911, Jaguar E-Type, Alfa Romeo PS Monza, and Ferrari F40.

Over the course of the event, the Works Drivers, supported by their Mechanics, will pilot their vehicles on the Concours Live Stage. Competitors will try to win a plethora of awards, some of which are ‘Best Pedal Car’, ‘Best Electric Car’, ‘Best Petrol Car’, ‘Most Original Car’ and ‘Best Dressed’.

Andrew Evans, Concours of Elegance Director, said: The Junior Concours was such a success last year, that we’ve decided to bring it back for 2021. This feature really shines a light on the fascinating world of bespoke built children’s cars, popularised by the Austin J40 of which almost 32,000 were built from 1950. This year, as we did last year, we have gathered together a wonderful collection of handbuilt cars of all ages, complete with working headlamps, innovative powertrains, and a near-perfect likeness to the full-size models they seek to imitate. With the support of their drivers and mechanics, the Junior Concours will be as much of a spectacle as any of our other priceless displays.

The event is sponsored by SNG Barratt Group and Twyford Moors and was held under the sunny skies of the historic Shelsley Walsh motorsport setting.

The co-founder of the club, Philip Porter, Chairman of Worcester Civic Society Phil Douce, and Motor Sport editor Joe Dunn, unveiled a blue plaque in commemoration of the Stirling Moss first competing at Shelsley Walsh back in 1948.

  • A legendary Jaguar E-Type has returned to us! Check the story here!

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster Chassis 62A missing Jaguar E-Type vehicle, considered to be one of the most sought-after early examples of the model has been discovered in the depths of Scotland. It will be offered at auction by Silverstone Auctions at the Silverstone Classic on the 30th and 31st of July.

This 1961 Series 1 Roadster, Chassis #62 has a rather interesting story. It is one of the first 92 hand-crafted models and had mysteriously disappeared at a certain time. Historians and experts were trying to know more about this Jaguar’s whereabouts for decades, but without any feasible result. Also, the first 20 units of this particular lineup have been fine-tuned to offer some sporty character and were believed to be the “Holy Grail” of E-Types and unarguably, for vehicle collectors.

And this particular, Chassis #62, was dispatched to Scotland in July 1961 via Henleys of London for use as a demonstrator vehicle in the whole Edinburgh area. Funny thing is that, it was expressly forbidden for the car be sold until September of the same year, but was purchased by its first owner right in the beginning of September.

Through the years the Jaguar vehicle was passed from owner to owner within Edinburgh area and back in 2013 it has passed in the dominion of its fifth and current owner who was completely unaware of the fact that he possesses a sort of the “Holy Grail” of vintage sports cars. I can imagine the excitement the felt.

And with this interesting story to be told for generations, the E-Type will be offered at the auction with its original Jaguar Heritage Certificate with a starting price between $180,000 and 220,000 USD.

Luckily, the car is still in impeccable visual and performance condition, thanks to the meticulous cares of its last owner. Finished in Carmen Red with black-dominated interior, the vehicle still has some original features and this so-called “fat floor”, split-link throttle linkage, thicker screen chrome mouldings and smooth cut-away groove at the top of the A-post capping.

  • So What do You Go For – Speed or Safety?

    2015 Mercedes S Class Coupe

If you ask a hundred people about which car they would buy if they were fortunate enough to have a win on the lottery, the chances are a hundred different replies will then be your reward. This is perfectly understandable, of course, because we are all individuals and we all have our own opinions on what makes the perfect vehicle.

There are plenty of people who will choose a brand new, fresh from the showroom SUV. Tough, robust and dripping with attitude, this choice is perfect for those men and women who want to be seen. Many of these cars represent the pinnacle of car fashion these days, so you can understand why this will prove to be a common pick.

It goes without saying, however, that many others will look for inspiration from the past. Sleek, sexy sports cars from yesteryear will always hold a certain kudos among both aficionados and people with only a passing interest in motors. You can be sure that, once they’ve received their winnings, many will head straight to the showroom.

One of the reasons for choosing a sports car from the past is the association with a certain type of glamor. After all, it’s easy to take a Jaguar E-Type for a spin along a deserted mountain road and imagine you are Steve McQueen or Paul Newman and that you’re on your way to visit Audrey Hepburn at her south of France hotel.

We all love to be fast, but we all need to be safe, too

This brings up an interesting question, however, about our attitude to motoring and our relationship with cars. If you have to choose between speed and safety, do you know for sure which option you will take? Sports cars of the past – and the present, too – have plenty of speed but they aren’t always as safe as we would like them.

Perhaps this is why many drivers choose something a little more dependable. We all hope that we will never feel the need to contact a motoring lawyer in order to make a road injury claim, of course, but if we continue to drive cars that aren’t as safe as others it could happen more often than we would like. That is simply a fact of life.

  • Petrolicious: The Last Of The Breed [VIDEO]

Owning one of the rarest cars on earth is more than a privilege. The 1974 Jaguar XK-E in this video is literally the last of its breed, being the 60th from last produced. The proud person who drives this Jaguar is David Paddison, who immediately fell in love when he saw it. And this is the basic line of the story of Petrolicious‘s latest video.

Paddison didn’t grow up in a car-loving family, instead he developed his passion for cars with his friends with whom he grew up racing slot cars before graduating into full-sized versions. His passion today developed in that way that he now collects classic cars.

The E-Type or simply the XK-E was produced between 1961 and 1974, and offered combination of exceptional appearance and high performance. The car was also ranked first in the list of the world’s “100 most beautiful cars” of all time.

To go even further into details, the 1974 version was equipped with 5.3 L V12 engine and included uprated brakes and standard power steering. And as Paddison says himself – this XK-E can not be compared to the contemporary cars, it delivers extremely different driving experience!

  • 2011 Jaguar E-type Concept

2011-Jaguar-E-type-Concept-thumbThe original Jaguar E-type is more than just an oil burning two-seater back from the 60s. Much more than that. It’s the epitome of British engineering and a symbol of world renown beauty. Even today, many motoring enthusiasts tremble before it as if it were the Holy Grail. It was one of the first cars that came with disc brakes as standard, it had a 3.8 liter engine that produced 265 hp and, according to Enzo Ferarri, at the time, it was “The most beautiful car ever made“. Today, the British place the Jag next to the Union Jack, Penicillin and the sausage in terms of national value.

What I am trying to stress here, is that undertaking a project which even vaguely relates to the original E-type is an audacious feat. So without further a due, meet Laszlo Varga – a college student from Budapest studying industrial design and his work – The Jaguar E-type Concept.

By the looks of things (renderings), Mr. Varga has pretty much managed to capture the spirit of the original. At the very first glance we notice the typical elliptic grill which serves as an assurance – “I am a Jaguar”. Other design traits seem to come directly from the Series 1 E-type. Namely, the glass covers of the headlights. It was with them, that the first E-types distinguished themselves from anything else that would come out later on. As a profile, this 2011 Concept looks a bit beefy, but the side window frame is significantly smaller than the original one and that puts even more light over the extended front end of the car. At the back, the lights are presumably LED but in essence, the arrangement is pretty much the same.

The overall idea, the modern interpretation of the E-type is fresh and daring. At the very least, Mr Varga has offered a tribute to a true motoring icon and we thank him for it.
