  • Happy 30th Birthday Hyundai! Sincerely, AutomobilesReview Team!

30 years ago, a small brand came to the US to sell units of its only model, the Excel. Thirty years later Hyundai is the fifth largest automobile manufacturer in the world with more than 10 million vehicle sales. Also, its Super Bowl 50 commercial won the top ranking in USA TODAY Ad Meter, which makes Hyundai the first automaker to achieve it. Oh yeah. And one more think. The team also launched one more luxury brand, called Genesis recently. Not bad for 3 decades, right?

In fact, Genesis brand set the aim to recreate the definition of luxury with some futuristic concepts and ideas for that special vehicle-man bond. Generally the idea is to blend human-focused innovation, balanced and smooth performance and appealing design.

  • Is Hyundai IONIQ the Hybrid Car We Have Been Waiting For?

Hyundai IONIQ Side ViewHyundai IONIQ is probably one of those vehicles I have been longing to see due to its versatile forms of fuelling and innovative ecological approach. Well, it is now here… or at least in its hybrid form. If you are not familiar with the car, it is an advanced, alternative-fuel compact vehicle, which will eventually be offered with a choice of three powertrains: electric, plug-in gasoline/electric hybrid, and gasoline/electric hybrid.

The car is definitely a result of Hyundai’s way to go with the trend and ‘spoil’ always-changing customer’s lifestyles by breaking the mould for hybrid vehicles. In other words we have here and average design and great fuel efficiency. And do not expect more. In fact, the design of the car seems to me something of a mix of Ford Focus’ sides (and a little bit of the front) and Prius’ tail. But that’s just an opinion…

SEE ALSO: Hyundai Releases Couple of Detailed Teasers of IONIQ

Since the IONIQ Hybrid is the first of the trio that has been unveiled we should say a word about it. It is equipped with new 1.6 GDI four-cylinder Kappa engine and 32 kW (44 PS) electric motor. The latter is powered by a Lithium-Ion polymer battery. The combined output measures 104 kW (141 PS) and 265 Nm (196 lb-ft) of torque. The powertrain is linked to a new six-speed dual-clutch transmission (6DCT), which offers responsive performance and a slick gear shift, and of course great fuel economy.

    Hyundai IONIQ Interior

In addition, Hyundai also disclosed that the car is based on an exclusive new platform, which allows the driving performance of the IONIQ to be similar to that of a regular compact car. Ride and handling, noise, vibration and harshness were specially tuned to deliver superior ride quality and comfort.

There are also a lot of convenience, safety and connectivity features included like the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 7-inch TFT information cluster. A host of innovative future-ready active and passive safety features protect the driver and passenger. Precisely we have electronic systems like Autonomous Emergency Brake, Lane Keeping Assist System, Lane Departure Warning System, and Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

IONIQ Hybrid is another car in the list of the expanding hybrids. Hyundai’s approach will make “electrification and mobility” more accessible throughout the world. Despite the expectations of setting a new benchmark, I think that IONIQ will be just another average hybrid car. But let’s not rush with the judgments and see the other two variants. The trio will be unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.

And in case you are interested, IONIQ Hybrid will go on sale in Europe during the second half of this year.

By these just-released renderings we see that the next-gen vehicle will not only offer some advanced powertrain technologies, but also some neat exterior and interior styling. Just look at the distinctive and cutting-edge aerodynamic shape. The straightforward, yet incredibly beautiful front design demonstrates a well-known hexagon grille with familiar-shaped headlights, while the sides remain clear, yet massive and distinctive. The smooth design theme firmly continues through the side doors and demonstrates this new and futuristic design.

SEE ALSO: Hyundai Releases Special Value Edition Upgrade Packages

Although there is only one picture, showing the interior, we must say it really looks comfortable and functional. Or at least the sketch makes it look that way. The design concept of the new IONIQ is continued into the cabin and proudly shapes itself in cozy, yet effectively space-using cockpit. Simple and stylish, yet beautiful and futuristic, the ambience in the cabin meets everyone in a place, built with passion, desire and love. Truly a masterpiece, even though we have seen only two pictures.

    2016 Hyundai IONIQ Concept

Hyundai IONIQ is to be demonstrated at the Geneva International Motor Show and the New York Auto Show in March 2016 after its world premiere in Korea later this month.

  • Hyundai Releases Couple of Detailed Teasers of IONIQ

Hyundai IONIQ Exterior TeaserHyundai IONIQ has been revealed in two additional teaser images after it has been introduced as a project a week ago. Now, the new renderings show the entire exterior of IONIQ and some exclusive details of the high-tech interior. It is obvious that the car looks innovative supporting its alternative-fuelling, and has head-turning aerodynamic looks which will offer excellent performance.

IONIQ will be the first car in the world which will offer a choice of three efficient and ultra-low-emission powertrains. The first one is entirely electric, the second is a combination of a plug-in gasoline and an electric hybrid, and the third will offer gasoline/electric hybrid propelling. In other words, the car is destined to deliver responsive driving experience, which also meets the needs of reducing the impact on the environment.

SEE ALSO: Here is Why Hyundai IONIQ Breaks the Hybrid Stereotype

This ideology is reflected in the name of IONIQ, which references elements of its creation. ION is an electrically-charged atom, linking to the car’s clever combination of electrified powertrains. The second part of the name references how unique this car is to Hyundai’s range, while the Q is depicted in the car’s logo as a visual breakthrough.

    Exterior

The first image shows that Hyundai IONIQ has a sleek, coupe-like silhouette. There are a lot of intriguing details, contributing for enhanced aerodynamic characteristics. The contours will minimize wind resistance and efficiently manage the airflow around the exterior. The front of the car is typical for Hyundai’s design, and features signature hexagonal grille with active ‘flaps’ that can direct airflow over the car. At the grille we see a gloss-black element that extends outwards to the new headlamps with integrated ‘C’-position lights.

    Interior

    Hyundai IONIQ Iterior Teaser

There is nothing much shown of the cabin. But we can see that it is smooth, elegant and clutter-free. There will be probably an efficient utilization of interior space as well as layout of control functions. The surfaces appear simple but stylish. Hyundai also said that they will be made of eco-friendly materials to convey a futuristic yet warm cabin ambience.

Hyundai IONIQ is going to be launched in the beginning of next year. But first, it will be premiered in Korea in January, and in March Geneva and New York.
