Everyone wants to have a reliable car – after all you would want to have a car that is cheap to maintain and that will give you driving pleasure, taking you anywhere, instead of making you spend tons of cash and waste time in car repair shops. Well, the British Which? Car web site has made your choice a bit easier by naming the Honda CR-V the most reliable SUV for year 2014.
The model in particular that has earned this prize is the 4 x 4 Honda CR-V 2.2 i-VTEC model up to three years old. The car has zero reported breakdowns, average annual repair costs of just GBP 10 and an overall reliability score of 98.5% over a 12-month period.
Impressed? If yes, this is not everything – the Honda CR-V shines with 0.14 faults reported compared to 0.88 for the worst performing in its category and 0.11 days off the road with the worst performing recording an average of 1.09 days. The survey has covered 49 000 owners and some 58 000 cars over a twelve month period.
Leon Brannan, Head of Cars for Honda (UK) comments: “It’s fantastic to see Honda’s excellent reputation for reliability recognised yet again, particularly from a name as respected and trusted as Which?. It’s also really useful to get feedback from customers living with their Hondas day in, day out, as this gives us insight which we can use to continually maintain our high levels of service.”
The latest addition to the Honda CR-V line – the 1.6-liter i-DTEC vehicle – proves the quality, refinement, comfort and reliability of the brand. This car can cover up to 800 miles (1287 km) on a single tank of fuel and its CO2 emissions are just 119 g/km, which means that in the UK the CR-V 1.6 i-DTEC qualifies for zero road tax for the first year and a road tax that can be as low as GBP 30 thereafter.
The 4th generation mid-sized Honda City is out and about to go on sale next year in India. We can call it cute, or we can go with Honda’s definition of it: “an Advanced Cool Stunner”. You can tell that they are very optimistic about it. Mr. Hironori Kanayama, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd said, “Witth the unveiling of the all new City, we enter a new era of Honda’s dominance in premium cars. City brand has been the face of Honda in India, enjoying strong leadership and popularity in its segment ever since its launch.” Supposedly, with the Honda City, the company has tackled sportiness, comfort and efficiency. Is there any aspect of motoring which they didn’t address.
Apparently, the latest City is as long and as wide as the previous one, but there should be more headroom now and more legroom because of a 50 mm longer wheelbase. In other words – 4400x1695x1495 mm in dimensions and a 2600 mm wheelbase.
Amidst the sensible range of engine choice, Honda are introducing a brand new diesel – a 1.5-liters i-DTEC with two overhead camshafts. The petrol variant will be just as big, but with a single camshaft and variable valve timing. No words on the horsepower though. Nor there is any mention of MPGs. Without any figures to back things up, we can only laugh about the silly and vague phrasing such as “Exciting H Design” or “Advansed Sporty Design”,” Best Fuel Efficiency” etc.
Honda has announced their latest engine. It is a new 1.6 liter i-DTEC diesel, which is created to bring high performance and incredibly low fuel consumption. The result is thanks to a number of modifications including superb lightweight.
This is the first from the Earth Dreams Technology series engines, which will be offered in Europe. The engine is specially produced for the European market and will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Swindon, UK.
Honda’s 1.6 i-DTEC uses a Bosch solenoid injection system which is capable of operating at a high pressure of 1800 bar. A high fuel pressure means that the fuel is injected at a faster rate and the finer the atomization of the fuel spray. This improves the fuel mixing with the air resulting in a cleaner and more efficient combustion helping to achieve the low emissions and fuel consumption.
Other huge advantage of the 1.6 liter i-DTEC is its weight. This is the lightest diesel in its class and weighs 47 kg. This means that all parts used in it will have lower friction leading to better power and low emission.
The engine has 120HP (88 kW) at 4000RPM and 300Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque at just 2000RPM. The CO2 emissions are only 94 g/km bringing the car equipped with this engine to “Tax-free” class. The fuel economy is rated at 78.5 mpg UK or just 3.6 liters per 100 km.
The first model with 1.6 liter i-DTEC will be the new 2013 Civic followed by the 2013 CR-V.
High Performance, Low Emissions
Max power: 120PS @ 4000rpm
Max torque: 300Nm @ 2000rpm
Fuel economy (EU combined): 78.5 mpg
CO2 emissions: 94 g/km

The bigger 1.8 liter i-VTEC has 142PS (104 kW) and 174Nm (128 lb-ft). The performance is satisfying – 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds and a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph). It needs only 5.8 litres per 100 km on combined cycle – 48.7 mpg with CO2 emissions of 137 g/km.
There is also a diesel – 2.2 liter i-DTEC with 150 PS (110 kW) and 350Nm (258 lb-ft). It is the best choice – 8.5 seconds to 100 km/h and the top speed is 217 km/h (135 mph). It covers 100 km with just 4.2 litres diesel – 67.2 mpg with CO2 emissions of 110 g/km.

Honda has announced that the new 2012 Civic will come with a powerful diesel engine.
The new 2.2 liter i-DTEC boasts carefully managed oil flow through the engine, reduced friction and Idle Stop (start/stop) technology. The engine delivers 150PS (110 kW) and 350Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque, and emits just 110 g/km of CO2.
Extensive wind tunnel testing was carried out to improve the car’s aerodynamics, reduce drag and refine high speed stability, all of which contribute towards lowering emissions.
“To achieve a good CO2 figure, you need to optimise every aspect of the car,” commented Katsushi Watanabe, Development Leader for the engine.
“Reducing the emissions was our key target and we’re proud to say that we have achieved this without compromising the high performance character of the engine. We want our customers to have fun when they drive this car.”, Katsushi Watanabe finished.
