Blood Type Racing is known for their one-off Hyundai SEMA-built vehicles. As the auto event is coming near, we are to see more and more exciting projects. So, here it is the Blood Type Racing Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec’s first sketch. The car is under preparation for this year’s SEMA show and as we can see from the image it has this sinister look and tough presence.
Sinister Appearance for the Exterior
It seems that this Veloster has switched over to the dark side, just in time for the next Star Wars series. So, let’s get into details with this car’s demanding look. First thing to mention is the amount of carbon fiber. The evil appearance of the car began with a “Carbon Black” paint job, accented with a red racing stripe running from the front splitter up onto the hood.
In addition, there is also a carbon fiber wide-body kit that is accompanied by front-mounted aero canards, front splitter and a rear deck spoiler. The trio also provides better down force at speed. Red accents on the custom SSR three-piece wheels, along with red projector “demon eye” headlamps are what make the car look that demonic.
Devil in the Engine
Under the hood of the car is the 1.6-liter “Gamma” four-cylinder. To make the car more harmonious with its exterior, BTR added to the engine new cylinder sleeves, a high-boost turbocharger from Garrett, and custom connecting rods and pistons. Using an ECU, the tuners managed to achieve more than 500 horsepower!
Exclusive Cabin
How about the interior? There are no sketches showing the work inside, however, BTR is saying that they have stripped it down and given it full, race-spec treatment with the addition of a four-point roll cage. They have also added Sabelt bucket seats, harnesses and steering wheel, along with audio upgrades from Rockford Fosgate and Tanabe OLED Revel gauges.
If you want to follow Hyundai and BTR at the SEMA show, just make sure you search for the #HyundaiSEMA on Twitter. The car will be revealed on November 3 at SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Hyundai has released an updated version of its Veloster Turbo model. The car will be seen only in South Korea and it is specifically intended for this market. The refreshed Veloster aims to catch the attention of younger customers, those who are in their twenties and thirties. The new edition of the vehicle has already been launched and on sale in the country, since 16th of January.
2015 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Facelift received some styling upgrades that need to be addressed. The exterior styling improvements included feature silver trim on the front grille which refreshes the front fascia as well as blackish allows in new multispoke design.
The headlight graphics has been also updated as well as the fog lights. Hyundai has continued with the changes inside. The cabin now features new sports seats that will be offered in three different color finishes.
More importantly, the Veloster has been given world’s first engine sound equalizer. It allows drivers to adjust the level of the sound of the powertrain. There are six different sounds offered. The car is driven by the 1.6-liter T-GDi turbo gasoline engine, which produces 204 hp (150 kW). The unit is coupled with a seven-speed double clutch transmission (DCT).
Hyundai will offer the Veloster Turbo Facelift in three trim versions. The starting price of the Unique trim is 19.95 million won which equals $18,550 USD, 20.95 million won or $19,480 USD) for the PYL and 21.55 million won ($20,040 USD) for the PYL DCT trim level.
2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec has been just added to the linep of exclusive Hyundai sport vehicles. The R-Spec offers not only more responsiveness but also ports aftermarket-tunable 1.6-liter direct-injected turbocharged engine coupled with the six-speed manual transmission, and a short-throw B&M Sport Shifter.
Not to mention its unique design cues, enhanced chassis tuning and B&M Racing Sport Shifter. In fact, the Veloster Turbo R-Spec is the fourth R-Spec model in Hyundai’s lineup. It comes to add to the exquisiteness of the Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec, Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec and Genesis 5.0 R-Spec.
In this case, car’s sport suspension and steering settings have been retuned for maximum responsiveness, with higher spring rates and a more rigid transmission mount. Next, the exterior of the model adds a sporty red-accented front splitter and side blades, with R-Spec badging on the rear hatch.
Veloster Turbo R-Spec will be offered in four colors: Elite White, Ultra Black, Marathon Blue and Sprint Gray. The performance-oriented theme is continued throughout the interior which includes red leatherette bolsters with red/black cloth insert sport seats and embroidered floor mats. The cabin has also received Active Sound Design, which provides richer in-cabin powertrain resonance for an even more involving driving experience.
What enhances the focused driving experience is the Torque Vectoring Control (TVC). This feature uses the capabilities from the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and powertrain control systems, and enhances dynamic cornering during more enthusiastic driving. In addition, TVC also utilizes wheel-speed sensors coupled with ESC algorithms. This serves in terms of application of the braking force to the inside front wheel during spirited cornering.

Hyundai and Fox Marketing have joined forces in order to create the most powerful street-focused Veloster Turbo ever. The vehicle will be on display at the SEMA Show which will take place in Las Vegas between 5th and 8th of November.
Fox Marketing has made some impressive upgrades to the Hyundai’s production 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder direct-injected, turbocharged Gamma engine. To be more precise, a comprehensive package of advanced engine components, including a new 845 Motorsports turbo upgrade, BorgWarner EFR turbo, front-mounted intercooler, AEM water/methanol injection system, VP Racing 101-octane performance fuel and an ECU tune from SeoulfulRacing, enhances the output of the unit up to 370 horsepower (272 kW).
What puts all that power on the road are the addition of the new UNIQ Performance strut brace, ImportShark chassis bracing and fully-adjustable ARK Performance coil-over suspension. What is more, the braking performance was also improved thanks to the addition of WP Pro EX6 6-piston front calipers with carbon fiber ducting and 13.6-inch wavy-cut rotors for neck-wrenching stopping power.
Other modifications regarding the exterior are the unique paint finish – the R-M Oynx HD Waterborne SkyAqua Pearl, new fog lights taken form Hyundai Genesis model, an ImportShark front lip spoiler, custom rear fascia mesh and custom front fascia.
On the other hand, the interior of this vehicle was also refined and particularly it was given new Street Pro LE seats and Takata Drift III 4-point harnesses.
EGR Group Hyundai Night Racer Concept will be presented at the 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas in November. The professionals at EGR Group have worked on the HyundaiVeloster Turbo in order to create a racecar, designed specifically for time attack races at night racing circuits.
The Night Racer sports unique vivid yellow paint scheme, which was custom-developed and named Yellowcake. In addition, the car’s exterior also has new Wurton roof-mounted LED light bar and custom ONEighty-branded headlights.
Furthermore, the rigidity of the body of the car has been enhanced significantly with the addition of a custom roll cage, as well as increased ride height with the help of ARK coil-over suspension and AEM strut brace.
The modifications on the powertrain were done by Bisimoto Engineering, and the result is a boost in engine’s output up to 250 horsepower (184 kW). On the other hand, oversized Brembo brakes, DPE 3-piece racing wheels and Toyo semi-slick racing tires deliver precise control at any time.
The massively popular Hyundai Veloster hits the US showrooms with a 2013 model year that’s pretty well priced – $17,450 for the 1.6 GDI, 6-speed manual. The one we are interested though, is the Veloster Turbo which has the same engine, but well… twin-scroll turbocharged. The prices for it start at $21,950 (6-speed stick) but what you get in return is a real treat – 201 hp, 195 lb-ft. of torque, 38 mpg of highway consumption, sporty looks, sporty notes and sporty equipment.
The 1.6L engine is swift in response, frugal and decently powerful thanks to it’s twin-scroll turbo technology and direct injection. Couple it with the 6-Speed SHIFTRONIC Automatic transmission and you’ll get the top of the line Veloster at the price of just $22, 950 – $1000 more than the manual.
The front grille is bigger, more pronounced and more hexagonal? LED’s and fog lights make sure the front has a premium luxury feel. The side skirts and the rear diffuser integrated rear bumper result in a more road-hugging stance when compared to the base Veloster. The exhaust pipes are now two round ones instead of a single trapezoidal module and all the while, 18-inch wheels with chrome inserts complete the looks.
Inside, you get “Turbo” embroiled on the headrests. The gauge cluster is quite 21st century with it’s two TFT displays between the dials, the pedals are from aluminum and the starter is a button. The only non-sporty thing are the standard heated seats – an unnecessary luxury which can only add weight.
Hyundai will reveal another interesting model at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The turbocharged 1+2 door Veloster Sports Coupe will showcase the latest ideas of engineers at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
The main updates are the boosted power output and increased low-end torque to best suit European driving tastes and enhance driver enjoyment.
The Veloster Turbo is powered by a 1.6 liter T-GDI with twin-scroll turbocharger – 186PS (137 kW) and 270Nm (199 lb-ft).
“UK drivers tend to prefer more torque from a lower engine speed, so our European engineers have specified a set-up that still provides a substantial increase in power – up from 140 ps to 186 ps – while also delivering the desired low-end torque. The resulting package is very competitive against the performance of competitors such as VW Scirocco and Vauxhall Astra.”, said Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK.
“Veloster has quickly established itself as a fun car and a unique proposition. The enhanced performance will increase the Veloster’s appeal for drivers who want the perfect combination of stand-out design, a fun drive and the practicality of a hatchback.” Mr. Whitehorn added.
2012 Hyundai Veloster Turbo EU
In terms of performance, Veloster Turbo is very good – 8.4 seconds 0-100 km/h with manual gearbox – 6-speed. CO2 emissions and fuel economy figures for the car will be announced nearer to launch in the UK.
The new Veloster Turbo has the same practical appeal as the original model, thanks to the innovative 1+2 door design. It also now features unique front and rear bumpers and foglights, new rear spoiler and grille, new 18” alloy wheels with chrome inserts, projection headlights with unique LED headlight accents, and unique LED taillights. These elements further accentuate the car’s eye-catching styling and add a greater emphasis on its performance.
The Veloster Turbo will come with Hyundai’s industry-best Five Year Triple Care assurance – a combination of a five-year unlimited warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks.
Hyundai unveiled today the all-new 2013 Veloster Turbo at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Veloster Turbo is armed with 201 horsepower (248 kW). The vehicle is powerful, high-tech and fuel-efficient and all this makes it the ultimate innovation in the sport coupe segment. The 2013 Veloster Turbo will be in dealerships in the summer of 2012 packed with unique sport-tuned steering and suspension hardware set.
The new Veloster Turbo is equipped with 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine in which produces 201 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque from 1750 – 4500 rpm with regular fuel. More importantly the vehicle is estimated to deliver 27 mpg city and best-in-class 38 mpg highway for manual transmission models! The 1.6-liter Gamma turbocharged engine includes a twin-scroll turbocharger that when combined with the GDI system, results in instantaneous power delivery. Although twin-scroll turbochargers have traditionally been used on more expensive high performance engines, Hyundai has brought this technology down its line-up from the Sonata 2.0T. In particular, twin-scroll turbocharger designs have two exhaust gas inlets divided by split walls inside the turbine housing, with both gas passages controlled by a waste-gate. A twin-scroll turbo recovers even more energy from the exhaust than a single-scroll turbocharger, thanks to a divided manifold. The twin-scroll design separates the cylinders whose exhaust gas pulses interfere with each other, and thus resulting in improved pressure distribution in the exhaust ports and a more efficient delivery of exhaust gas energy to the turbocharger’s turbine. Another important result is the improved pressure distribution in the exhaust ports and a more efficient delivery of exhaust gas energy to the turbocharger’s turbine. This in turn allows greater valve overlap, resulting in an enhanced quality and quantity of the air charge entering each cylinder. Additionally the twin-scroll turbocharger design includes other benefits over traditional, single-scroll turbocharging systems, such as improved combustion efficiency, low engine-speed efficiency, kinetic exhaust gas energy is not wasted or trapped, cooler cylinder temperatures, lower exhaust temperatures, leaner air/fuel ratio, better pressure distribution in the exhaust ports and more efficient delivery of exhaust gas energy to the turbocharger’s turbine. Furthermore Veloster’s twin-scroll turbo has great handling of exhaust gas separation at the turbine leading to improved low-end torque and faster transient torque response. Thanks to the integrated stainless-steel turbine housing with the exhaust manifold, not only is the weight and cost of the casting reduced, but also is the durability of the turbine housing also improved. Moreover heat energy recovery and thus turbo efficiency is significantly improved based on the fact that a traditional two-piece design effectively insulates some of the heat energy at the joint/gasket area.
2012 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
Furthermore the specific GDI fuel delivery system contributes to improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The fuel is injected by a camshaft-driven, high pressure pump that operates at pressures up to 2175 psi. Direct injection also utilizes a higher-than-normal 9.5 compression ratios, while achieving a best-in-class 125.6 horsepower-per-liter. The piston heads are “dished” to increase combustion efficiency in the cylinder.
Veloster Turbo’s is uniquely designed. The inspiration was a custom high-performance sport bike. Moreover Hyundai designers have removed the Veloster’s trapezoidal center exhaust and replaced it with two larger free flowing circular pipes. These new pipes and the new intake manifold also allowed engineers to give the engine a more robust sound. Drivers will also appreciate that the Veloster Turbo will be available in a Hyundai first Matte Gray paint. In addition a set of 18-inch gray wheels with chrome inserts completes the Veloster Turbo’s classy style. Another important feature is that Veloster Turbo includes a quicker ratio steering rack and a revised steering calibration to match, which both give drivers precise cornering, feedback and control. All Veloster Turbo’s ride on Kumho Solus KH25 215/40R18 85V tires designed to extract the best performance out of the car without compromising the ride. Good news is that all Velosters are fitted with a McPherson strut front suspension, coil springs, gas shock absorbers and a 24 mm diameter front stabilizer. Additionally, the rear suspension is a light-weight V-torsion beam, a Hyundai-first with an integrated 23 mm stabilizer bar to allow bracing of the arms for greater stiffness and to further control body roll. In order to bring more comfort, the rear suspension also uses monotube shock absorbers. All Velosters feature electric power steering that adjusts assistance instantly to changing driving conditions while improving fuel economy over a conventional steering system. Veloster’s turning diameter of 34.1 feet is better than Mini’s 35.1 feet and Mini Clubman’s 36.1 feet.
And if you wonder about the interior, it features full leather seats with the word “Turbo” stitched into the seatbacks. An exclusive Supervision Cluster offers the driver information in a larger, clearer and more interactive format. This is due to the Supervision Cluster’s two TFT screens located between the tachometer and the speedometer. As a standard there are two heated front seats.
In order to handle the power enhancements Veloster Turbo is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual features a wider gear ratio spread (5.71 vs. 5.25) to handle the additional torque output. The high-revving turbo helps during acceleration, especially at highway speeds. The Veloster Turbo is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifter and and Shiftronic® controls rather than the base Vesloster’s EcoShift DCT. This is due to the increased torque output from the 1.6-liter Turbocharged-GDI engine. The gear ratio spread on the automatic transmission is slightly narrower than the DCT (6.0 vs. 6.38). A narrower spread maintains the engine in the power band when going from one gear to the other. The base Veloster’s EcoShift DCT is tuned for fuel efficiency and not for the performance feel needed for the Veloster Turbo.
At just 2,800 pounds, Veloster sets priority on weight efficiency, whcih allows the car Turbo to deliver a great combination of agility, performance, and fuel efficiency. The overall dimensions of the vehicle are 104.3-inch wheelbase, 167.3 inches long and 71.1 inches wide.
Of course, all Velosters have an exceptional level of standard safety features for the sporty car segment highlighted by a Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system, which optimally manages ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and the Motor-Driven electric Power Steering (MDPS). First of all, VSM works to control two effects. The first is when a driver accelerates or brakes on a split-mu surface (slippery on one side, dry pavement on the other) and the vehicle wants to pull in one direction. In addition VSM detects this condition and sends a signal to the MDPS to apply steering assist. It counters the pull and automatically provides up to eight Newton meters of counter steering and reacts the same way during sudden lane changes or fast cornering. Further advantages concerning the safety are the six airbags—including dual front, front seat-mounted side-impact, and front and rear side curtain airbags; a state-of-the-art braking package – the package includes four-wheel disc brakes and an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) including Brake Assist, which provides maximum braking force when a panic stop is detected; and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), to automatically adjust the braking force to front and rear axles based on vehicle loading conditions.
The vehicle also comes standard with a multifunction seven-inch touch-screen display, which now makes it more interactive and entertaining. In addition there is included Pandora internet radio , Gracenote MediaVOCS® technology, a standard 450-watt Dimension Premium Audio system with eight speakers including an eight-inch subwoofer, external amplifier and iPod®/USB/auxiliary input jacks; XM Satellite Radio interface; a Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition, address book download and audio streaming; onboard navigation. And at last but not least it also features the unique Hyundai Blue Link Technology. As part of the Blue Link launch, Hyundai also will provide Blue Link Assurance on Blue Link-equipped vehicles, which include core safety services for an introductory period. These key safety services include: Automatic Crash Notification (ACN) and Assistance, SOS Emergency Assistance, and Enhanced Roadside Assistance.
Eventually Veloster Turbo’s is painted in an exclusive Matte Gray. Later all 2013 Velosters will be available in colors that fit the cars “own-it” attitude and characteristics of a long-distance runner, including Elite White. There will also be interior color choices such as Graphite Black Graphite Black with Blue accents and headliner graphics for non-panoramic sunroof models.
