  • Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell and California Drivers Make a Lunar Visit

Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell Side ViewHyundai Tucson Fuel Cell has made an achievement which is worth reviewing. The car is so fuel efficient that its California-based drivers have accumulated enough emissions-free miles to reach the lunar surface and return. Well, there were emissions, but they comprise of clean water vapor only.

The trip to the moon and back isn’t actually the same every time. If you ask why, this is because it varies with each lunar orbit. Of course, there is an average round-trip distance which is estimated at 477,800 miles.

Since the introduction of Tucson Fuel Cells in June last year, Hyundai has sold more than 70 examples to the customer from the United States. The car has been also the first mass-produced fuel cell on the market.

A Moon Rock Souvenir from Lunar Visit. Hypothetically.

But let me tell you more about the “Moon-thing”. If such small fleet of only 70 hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles can achieve this mileage and in only few short months, this also signifies that the zero-emissions vehicles have huge potential. We can then only imagine what the future filled with emission-less hydrogen vehicles holds for us.

Precisely, the owners of the Tucson Fuel Sell needed only 240 days to go to the moon. More to that is that they needed 120 days for the return.

But how the precise miles can be estimated so accurately, one might ask. This is because Hyundai service engineers receive periodic mileage updates from Tucson Fuel Cell vehicles in Southern California. Therefore a calculation of the cumulative mileage is possible.

Benefits of Driving a Fuel Cell Vehicle

Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell is an example of a car, which has a lot of advantages over conventional or even other alternative fuel-powered vehicles. Firstly, the hydrogen fuel is capable of covering a range of 265 miles between fill-ups. Secondly, its driving range and vehicle performance are just slightly affected by weather condition, regardless hot or cold.

Third, they are about the same size as the typical gasoline vehicles. At last, fuel cell vehicles are completely production scalable, meaning that they can range from very small to very large vehicles: from sweet minis to trucks.

Oh, and the best thing of all is that they are absolutely environmentally friendly. And eventually the planet can benefit either. Who’s voting for more of these? I’m the first one on the list.

As you know, the benefits of hydrogen fuel are numerous and already well-known: the fuel can be produced from numerous sources, including directly from water sources. And in addition, this is one of the cleanest fuels, that is almost 100 per cent environmentally friendly.

And in addition to the good news, California approved a plan to develop numerous hydrogen refuel stations, that will be built in the next several years. Furthermore, the prices of the fuel will go down, so it won’t be that expensive.

The Fuel Cell technology is really a masterpiece, that can already replace the traditional battery packs from vehicles and it is expected to be one of the main energy sources for vehicles in the near future.

All competitors must deal with challenges as past award winners, academic awards, leadership in technical and academic field, design and many other.

But let’s get back to the car and the technology behind it. The fuel cell technology replaces the battery pack and produces energy from hydrogen through a complex process. Overall, the Tucson Fuel Cell maintains flexibility and experience of a gas-powered car without any compromises for the customer.

  • Hyundai Tells The Story Of 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell [VIDEO]

2015-Hyundai-Tucson-Fuel-Cell-THUMB2015 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell was introduced at last years Los Angeles Auto Show and it was an embodiment of brands next generation electric vehicle. The vehicle will be available at several Southern California Hyundai dealers this Spring. For the occasion, the company has released a video in which its employees tell Hyundai’s Fuel Cell story. You can watch it below.

The driving range of the Tucson Fuel Cell on a full charge is up to 300 miles. The better news here however is that its emission is water. Furthermore, the car needs less than 10 minutes to fully charge, when compared to the current EV’s, which need at least 3 hours with a

    240V charge.

All in all, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell has a motor which performs just as strongly as an internal combustion engine, but it emits only water. In addition to this it is as quiet as a standard EV, but it is even more beneficial that the latter because it can go farther on a single charge.

  • 2014 Hyundai Tucson Gets Refreshed

2014-Hyundai-Tucson-THUMB2014 Hyundai Tucson is now even more stylish and functional, and now it is equipped with performance-enhancing technology and advanced 2.0-liter Nu and 2.4-liter Theta II Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine.

To be more precise, the GDI engines are complemented with SACHS Amplitude Selective Damping (ASD) for optimum ride, handling and driving comfort. In the MY2014 are also featured many optional refinements such as Hyundai’s Blue Link safety, service and infotainment telematics system, two-stage reclining rear seats and third-generation navigation with a larger seven-inch touchscreen display and HD Radio technology.

To go even further into details, the improvements here, next to the new engines, include the following: available AWD, Standard Blue Link and Hyundai Assurance Connected Care, third generation navigation with larger seven-inch touchscreen and HD Radio technology, Standard Bluetooth hands-free phone system, 4.3-inch color LCD touchscreen audio with rearview camera.

The exterior enhancements include new projector headlights with LED accents, LED taillights, Shark-fin antenna on Limited trim, roof side rails with panoramic sunroof, standard 17-inch or optionally available 18-inch alloy wheels.

Throughout the interior are also present many new additions: two-stage reclining 60/40 split rear seats, standard tilt and telescopic steering wheel, floor console mounted rear vents, standard-steering-wheel mounted audio and cruise controls, cupholder illumination, new interior colors -beige and brown.

The engine the vehicle is equipped is the 2.0-liter Nu GDI engine which generates 164 horsepower (120 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 205 Nm (151 lb.-ft.) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The Nu four-cylinder engine with GDI delivers a good balance between performance and fuel economy. For the first time, the entry level 2014 Tucson GLS with the 2.0-liter Nu engine will be available with AWD.

If one looks for more horsepower, then there is available the 2.4-liter Theta II GDI unit, which has the ability to tow up to 2,000 pounds. It is capable of generating 182 horsepower (134 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft.) of torque, and can deliver an estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg combined.

Regardless the engine, all Tucson models use a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC® manual control. In addition, 2014 Tucson’s athletic shape is complemented with agile handling – it utilizes MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension systems for more precise wheel control and a smoother ride.

In addition, all four wheels are controlled by coil springs and Sachs Amplitude Selective Damping (ASD). The latter provides improved ride comfort with more body/wheel control, increased driving comfort without compromised handling, and optimized road surface contact.

Next, to the AWD, the new Tucson features Hyundai’s Hillstart Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Brake Control (DBC). The first one, the HAC is designed to minimize rolling backwards on steep ascents. On the other hand, the DBC switch, the Hydro-Electronic Control unit manages the wheel speed sensors, steering angle sensor and acceleration sensor in order to operate the control and speed on steep declines without having to use the brake.

2014 Hyundai Tucson will be available at dealerships in the autumn of 2013.
