  • Hyundai Partners with Bisimoto for 708 HP Flex-Fuel Sonata

Hyundai and Bisimoto Engineering are joining forces for the third year in a row, to create a 708 horsepower Sonata for this years SEMA show in Las Vegas. Last year, the Bisimoto’s team, which specializes in extracting huge output from Hyundai’s engines, has created the 1000 horsepower Bisimoto Genesis Coupe for the same show.

This time, the power gurus will be working on Hyundai’s 2.4-liter “Theta-II” 4-cylinder engine. They will be using a combination of strengthened internal components such as forged pistons, connecting rods, a high-revving valve train and camshafts and high-boost turbocharger. The goal is to extract exactly 708 horsepower (520 kW) from the unit. The power will be sent to the road via six-speed manual transmission.

The team at Bisimoto conducted hundreds of hours of testing, failure analysis and prototyping. The result is 18 new products which will be engineered and produced in house to deliver the 708 horsepower. Furthermore, the Sonata will feature a special custom laminated body wrap and graphics, as well as extensive overhaul under the hood.

Rounding out the exterior credentials of the car are the Bisimoto front splitter and aero package, Fifteen52 18-inch aluminum wheels and the Burns stainless exhaust system. Inside, the interior has been given a sporty feel with the addition of racing harnesses, AEM wideband gauges and EK Autoworx interior paint.

2015 Bisimoto Engineering Sonata will offer space for four and will be revealed at Hyundai’s SEMA press conference on 4th of November.

  • 2015 Sonata officially rated as very safe

Korean automobiles are usually regarded as cheap alternatives to German and Japanese cars but quite often they win prestigious awards here and there. This is now the case of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata, which has been officially rated as one of the safest cars on the road today. This recognition comes from none other but the US Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), which has named the 2015 Sonata “2014 Top Safety Pick+”.

Just a quick look at the car will convince you that this is indeed the case. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata comes with a host of active safety features such as Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Warning and rear parking sensors. All these technologies bring a new level of safety and refinement to the midsize sedan category.

“The TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation recognizes state-of-the-art safety,” said IIHS president Adrian Lund. “The 2015 Hyundai Sonata is not only engineered to protect people when crashes happen, but with its optional forward collision warning system rated basic in our tests, this car can help drivers avoid some of the most common kinds of collisions altogether.”

“Occupant safety is at the forefront of Hyundai design and engineering,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, Corporate and Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “Sonata’s TOP SAFETY PICK+ recognition reinforces our dedication to occupant safety, and integrating our accident prevention technologies makes the 2015 Sonata one of the safest midsize sedans on the market today.”

The 2015 Hyundai Sonata also offers a number of additional technologies that include Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, ABS and Tire Pressure Monitoring System with individual tire pressure indicators and Electronic Stability Control. The car, however, comes with no new engines. In the USA customers can choose between a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with 185 HP (136 kW) and a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 274 HP (201 kW) of power. The car also has a six-speed automatic transmission for both models and more versions of it are expected soon.

In the USA you can have the 2015 Hyundai Sonata for as little as USD 17 870.

  • 2015 Hyundai Sonata Goes On Sale

2015-Hyundai-Sonata-2-0T-THUMB2015 Hyundai Sonata is currently going on sale. It will offer its customers a more refined look thanks to the implementation of the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. In addition, it adds features such as hands-free Smart Trunk, Smart Cruise Control with stop/start capability, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel.

The new design language includes stiffer body structure, better ride quality, and accents on the reduced noise, vibration and harshness. This Hyundai model is also equipped with advanced safety and convenience features.

As a standard, 2015 Sonata comes with seven airbags. In them is included the new driver’s knee airbag, which was created in order to help prevent the driver from sliding down the seat in a case of collision. Additionally, this allows the other restraint systems to be more effective.

Other active safety technologies assist drivers and help prevent accidents. Again as a cost-option, the car can get Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a Lane Departure Warning System.

There are three trim levels equipped with the revised 2.4-liter Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine. Namely – the Sonata SE, Sport and Limited. The powertrain produces 185 horsepower (136 kW) and 241 Nm (178 lb-ft) of torque. New for 2015 is the Electronic Intake Continuously Variable Valve Timing (E-CVVT) system that enhances the overall performance in low temperatures and also minimizes emissions.

The refined 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI includes E-CVVT, and powers the Sonata Sport 2.0T models. The unit is optimized for lower-RPM drivability and it produces 245 horsepower (180 kW) and 352 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque. Here, the twin-scroll turbocharger features a smaller turbine and compressor wheels. They provide better responsiveness and more torque in the low and mid RPM range.
