As you might know, NACVOTY awards recognize vehicles mostly for their shape and the chase of some next-gen future designs. There were more than two dozen jurors, who participated in the complex process of choosing this year’s best vehicle. In fact, there were a total of 30 cars, each introduced to North America during this season’s auto show in Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto and New York.

The Santa Cruz is what the light-truck category needs – loads of style for people without big loads

The Santa Cruz concept demonstrates completely different interpretation of truck utility for the latest generation of buyers. The concept is crafted to meet the growing needs of drivers, who Hyundai calls “urban adventurers”. The idea behind the truck is to bring some flexibility, as it comes to work-life professionalism and to a variety of outdoor activities. And all this promised without the usual compromises for this class of vehicles. Or at least the Hyundai team says so. In fact, the Santa Cruz concept looks compact, but offers four doors and seating for five, feels massive and is unexpectedly flexible. So, despite the stylish looks, Hyundai team promises and some nice performance. Nice.

  • Hyundai Debuts Special Edition Veloster and Santa Cruz Concept in Chicago

Chicago Motor Show is an event that is to happen in couple of days. Hyundai will show there its “Concept & Technology Garage” that will include 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, the latest connected car technologies the HCD-15 Santa Cruz Concept that we have seen in Detroit and the SEMA vehicles. In addition, the company will also reveal two new products, one of which was officially confirmed to be a special edition Veloster.

The Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept makes its Chicago debut. At the show it will display its characteristics as a new interpretation of truck utility. This fresh concept is intended to appeal to Millennials, whose needs range from expandable utility throughout an active week in the city.

The vehicle is created to shatter convention and offers an extension of personality. One of its key characteristics is the efficiency. The powertrain is the 2.0-liter turbo diesel unit which produces 190 horsepower (140 kW) and 407 Nm (300 lb.-ft.) of torque, but it is capable of achieving fuel economy in the high 30 mpg range. Santa Cruz is also equipped with the HTRAC All-wheel drive system.

For those who haven’t visited the SEMA Show in Las Vegas last year, there is good news: Hyundai will bring five SEMA models to Chicago. These include Blood Type Racing’s Genesis Coupe, Toca Signature Edition “Steel Phoenix” Genesis Sedan, ARK Performance AR550 Genesis Sedan, Bisimoto Engineering Sonata and JP Edition Genesis Coupe.

The next star of the show will be the Tucson Fuel Cell, which “wrote history” as the first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle available for consumer lease. The fuel cell technology replaces the battery pack in EVs by generating electricity from hydrogen.

This is done through an electrochemical process that does not involve hydrogen combustion, with no moving parts within the fuel cell stack. In this way the technology alleviates the limitations of traditional battery electric vehicles and maintains the day-to-day flexibility of the gasoline-powered Tucson.

At last but not least, the attendees of Hyundai’s “Concept & Technology Garage” will have an opportunity to test drive the zero-emissions Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle. They will also see how the company demonstrates the latest suite of in-vehicle technologies of 2015 Sonata: the eight-inch navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Hyundai’s Blue Link smartwatch app.

  • Hyundai’s “Urban Adventurer” Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept Revealed in Detroit

Hyundai Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept is company’s take on sport truck concepts, which was just unveiled at NAIAS. It is a completely new interpretation of truck utility aimed at the drivers in the city areas. This means that the design of the Santa Cruz includes more attributes in comparison to the traditional pickups. And yes, the concept vehicle is more expressive, efficient and maneuverable. Or to say it this way: Santa Cruz is for the growing population who sees and pursues the world differently. It combines the traditional attributes of a small CUV, but adds those characteristics needed for the “Urban Adventures”.

The designers of the car have featured at the front upright and hexagonal grille with cascading lines framing the sides, dual lens-free, honeycombed headlamp projectors, and prominent LED fog lamps. The sides of the CUV are highlighted by oversized wheels, Michelin tires with a special tread design, center-locking hubs and yellow Brembo brake calipers.

The rear seats can be accessed easily with rear-hinged rear doors which integrate seamlessly with the front door design. At the back, the concept presents highly-contoured bed forms and can be reconfigured for longer cargo.

One of the key characteristics of this CUV is the efficiency.

For those who need even more cargo room, there is this innovative tailgate extension which allows the bed length to be expanded whenever needed. When fully extended, Santa Cruz’s bed length is similar to a mid-size pickup.

All in all, Hyundai’s Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept is intended to attract CUV and sedan buyers who are looking for greater utility, without the compromises that the traditional trucks often demand.
