  • Hyundai ix35 is the First Mass Produced Fuel Cell EV

Hyundai ix35Zero-emissions mean more eco-friendliness and happier earth. It might seem strange to you but the emission-less cars become more and more important in out society, hence for the automotive industry, too. And as the time goes by, these vehicles become stronger, faster, lighter and more beautiful.

Take for instance, Hyundai’s ix35 Fuel Cell. This is one of most advanced alternative fuel vehicles currently available on the market. It is powered by hydrogen and this is actually the first mass produced fuel cell electric vehicle in the world.

The vehicle also has two hydrogen storage tanks that weigh a total of 5.64kg. They allow the SUV to drive up to 369 miles (594km) on a single fill. Another benefit that these tanks deliver is that they enable the vehicle to start in temperatures as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius.

In addition, the energy is stored in a 24kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, which Hyundai has jointly developed with LG Chemical. Of course, the result did not happen over night. The impressive figures and data that the car shows is an effect of years of development.

This year’s ix35 Fuel Cell is actually the fourth-generation fuel cell-powered EV. It not only shows significant improvements over its predecessor, but also allows for an enhanced driving range with 50%. At the same time, it still delivers zero tailpipe emissions, while the fuel efficiency shows gains of more than 15%.

  • The All-new Hyundai Tucson is Sportier and Stronger [VIDEO]

Just today Hyundai revealed the first sketch of the upcoming all-new Tuscon which is going to replace the currently running Hyundai ix35.

Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, pointed out: “Our new compact SUV will be a big step forward for the Hyundai brand globally. The All-New Tucson has a bold and athletic presence and a proud stance. Its design is characterised by flowing surfaces, bold proportions, sharp lines and – most important – our brand signature hexagonal grille.”

The new SUV is said to have a sportier look than the ix35 and for now it somehow manages to justify this statement. The stronger appearance of the Hyundai Tuscon is further underlined by the straight and stable silhouette and “sleek character line.” In order to craft out a more powerful stance, Hyundai Motor equips the vehicle with a chrome-framed hexagonal grille that is connected to the headlamp clusters.

There is an extra dose of significance imported in the name. When the current ix35 went on sale back in 2009 in the UK, the initial Tuscan name was disregarded. Now the reintroduction of the same title signifies the global importance of the model.

This compact SUV will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, on 3rd March.

  • Hyundai Delivers First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles to UK Customers

The first Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles have arrived for the first time in the UK which continues Hyundai’s global opening of the world’s pioneering series of hydrogen-powered car.

Having been researching and developing around this Eco-sector since 1998, now by supplying customers in the UK with these zero-emission vehicles, the car manufacturer is definitely cleaning the road of progress for the clean technology.

The new Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles are part of London’s Hydrogen Network Expansion (LHNE) project which strives to establish a valuable hydrogen-fueled transport system for the first time across London and the South East. The Fuel Cell vehicles will be just another asset which will be added to the set of hydrogen-powered vans. The latter are already in use as part of the same project.

Since Hyundai always seeks to achieve more and more, the manufacturer is part of other collaborative enterprises and schemas such as supplying HyTEC, which along with HyFIVE is funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU); participating in the UKH2 Mobility project that has had a pivotal part in advising government. And last but not least, there is a project which is backed by Innovate, and Hydrogen for Innovative Vehicles (HyFIVE).

The new eco car produces zero harmful tailpipe emissions, thus, the only thing that comes out of the tailpipe is water. Moreover, Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell can travel more than 350 miles in real driving conditions before refueling which makes it really convenient enough, don’t you think? This resembles the refueling of vehicles that run on petrol or diesel.

The cars arrive just a few days after Business Minsiter Matthew Hancock declares that £11 million of UK government and industry funding will support the hydrogen transport. After all, this will help the growth of the refueling infrastructure, right? Additionally, the provided financial support will result in an expanded nationwide hydrogen refueling station network which, on the other hand, will resonate in increased interest in the fuel cell vehicles and their use.

UK customers are already able to order the innovative Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell vehicles.

  • Hyundai Intrado Concept Teaser

    Hyundai-Intrado-Concept-shadowHyundai-Intrado-Concept-medium

Hyundai are really bent on shaking the foundations of the automotive industry. At least, that’s what we are led to believe from the latest piece of news that’s come out of the South Korean manufacturer. The 2014 Geneva Motor Show will host the arrival of an “iconic” concept called the Hyundai Intrado. It’s supposed to be a super-space-age type of car that brings innovation, refinement and utter awesomeness. Hyundai go as far as claiming that the Intrado, with its super-lightweight structure made from a mixture of advanced materials, has the potential to change the way cars are constructed in the future.

Apparently, Intrado is a term from aerospace – the underside of an aircarft’s wing which produces lift. Hope they didn’t take that idea too seriously, or we fear that the grip of the Hyundai Intrado will be pretty abominable. The thing is, the concept should be drawing some inspiration from aircraft technologies – use of advanced materials, keeping it light, a form that follows function exclusively, and a highly efficient powertrain. Peter Schreyer, President & CDO of Hyundai Motor Group, commented:

“Hyundai Intrado envisages a motoring future that encapsulates the efficiency and freedom associated with flying. I believe in the power of mobility to deliver emotional as well as physical connections and this car helps us find again the joy of discovery. Intrado shows that future cars can be relevant and exciting.”

The body style is, actually, based on something called the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. It  has been designed by the Hyundai Motor European R&D centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. As for the efficient powertrain – the Intrado will make use of a lighter and less voluminous version of the one in the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell.

That’s all we have for now. Viva la revolution?

  • Facelifted Hyundai ix35 To Be Revealed In Geneva

hyundai-ix35-facelift-THUMBHyundai has just released the first image showing its facelifted ix35. In addition it has been disclosed that the model is going to be revealed in Geneva this week. The new ix35 comes equipped with improved powertrain line-up, which features the European-developed gasoline engine named ‘Nu’ 2,0-litre GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection).

The latter delivers more power but still has greater economy than the ‘Theta-II’ 2,0-litre engine it replaces. Furthermore, the ‘R’ diesel engine receives clean technology, such as LP-EGR (low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation).

Facelifted Hyundai ix35 benefits from Hyundai’s three-mode FLEX STEER driving system, where the driver can choose from Normal, Comfort and Sport modes to tailor levels of feedback and the overall driving experience. In addition, Bi-Xenon headlamps and a TFT Supervision cluster will deliver better clarity and sense of greater joy to driving.

On the other hand, the interior receives a host of material upgrades which enhance the quality, along with some detail improvements to the trim. In fact, the styling, dynamic and technical upgrades of this model make sure that it keeps its successful character.

Another interesting fact is that the ix35 became the fastest-selling model in the brand’s European history and still keeps its huge popularity. It was the first model to include Hyundai’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ form language.

  • Hyundai Ix35 FCEV Uk Debut

EcoVelocity visitors can be among the first in the world to experience future travel in a hydrogen-powered car, with passenger rides available in the ix35 FCEV. The vehicle is Hyundai’s third-generation FCEV and it demonstrates the company’s work on cutting-edge alternative fuels.

Boasting the same convenience as today’s vehicles powered by traditional internal combustion engines, the ix35 FCEV has a driving range of 360miles (580 Km), a maximum speed of 100 mph and zero-to-62mph time of 12.8 seconds. The fuel cell stack can operate at sub-zero temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius, and unlike a combustion-engined car, the ix35’s only emissions are water vapour.

This vehicle moves Hyundai closer to the commercialisation of fuel cell electric vehicles, and the aim is to bring an FCEV to market in the next few years.

Earlier this year, the Hyundai Motor Group signed a memorandum of understanding with four Northern European countries to operate test fleets of FCEVs. Test drives have already been carried out in Korea and Copenhagen.

    Hyundai ix35 FCEV
    Hyundai ix35 FCEV

Hyundai UK’s managing director, Tony Whitehorn, commented: “We are extremely excited to be showcasing the ix35 FCEV in the UK for the first time at EcoVelocity. Hyundai is a world leader in the development of hydrogen-powered technology and is constantly researching and developing modes of transportation that use alternative fuels at the Eco-technology research institute in Mabuk, Korea.

“The ultimate goal would be to see zero-emission vehicles on UK roads within the next few years; however, the market and local infrastructure will be the real determinant of this. In the interim, Hyundai is working hard to make internal combustion engines as efficient as possible.”
