  • Gumpert Apollo Tattoo Car Revealed [VIDEO]

Gumpert-Apollo-tattoo-car-THUMBInked Gumpert Apollo has made a successful debut on 8th of June as announced in the beginning of the month. A lot of people gathered on a sun-drenched Regent Street in London to watch the official unveiling. This is one of the world’s first tattooed cars and it will participate in the Gumball 3000 Rally. It took exactly two weeks for the tattoo artist Aleksy Marcinow to ink the supercar and make it look really amazing! For this project, Marcinow collaborated with London Motor Museum. At the official premiere of the car, he and the owner of the museum have revealed this unique Gumpert.

In fact, the Apollo is one of the fastest cars in the world. It is powered by a4.2 liter bi-turbo V8 engine constructed by Audi and can produce up to 650 horsepower (478 kW). It is also one of most powerful street-legal cars ever created and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds. It has a top speed of 205 mph.

The inspiration for vehicle’s design was taken from Japanese art and irezumi. The latter is an area he is currently exploring. He has also disclosed that he has never tattooed a car before and at first it seemed like a crazy idea. However, he enjoyed the process and found that tattooing a car had many similarities to tattooing the human body. You can watch the video below to get sure of this!

  • Inked Gumpert Apollo by Tattooist Aleksy Marcinow

Inked-Gumpert-Apollo-THUMBThis Inked Gumpert Apollo is one of world’s first tattooed cars. The customization has been done by the London Supercar workshop in collaboration with the London-based tattooist Aleksy Marcinow (Black Onyx Tattoo Studio). He has inked the car with a totally unique Japenese-inspired design. Those who are willing to see the car will have this opportunity at the Gumball 3000 rally on Regent Street in London on 8th of June.

The tattooist have studied fine art and wanted to compliment the curves of one of the fastest cars on the planet. Aleksy took inspiration for the car’s tattoo design from Japanese art and irezumi – an area he is currently exploring. He revealed that he has never tattooed a car before, but it got many similarities to the human body.

London Motor Museum has been home to the only Gumpert Apollo since 2010. The newly inked car will race along with an additional 10 luxury supercars at the event. Gumpert Apollo is powered by a 4.2 liter bi-turbo V8 engine constructed by Audi. The horsepower is estimated at 650 hp (478 kW). If these 650 hp are not enough, then there is a Sport variant with 700 hp (515 kw). And more importantly – they are completely street legal.

  • 2013 Geneva Motor Show: Gumpert Apollo S

Gumpert has introduced Apollo S at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The manufacturer has a lot of issues, but now everything is alright and this is their latest creation.

    The Apollo S is powered by a twin-turbo 4.2 liter V8 engine with 750HP (552 kW) at 6,000RPM and 900Nm (664 lb-ft) at 4,000RPM. 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of more than 322 km/h (200 mph). The more difficult 0-200 km/h is covered in just 8.8 seconds.

Gumpert offers three gearbox variants: a 6-speed fully-synchronized, a sequential with manual gear shift lever and an automatic electronic gear system with paddle shift.

Some of the highlights are chromium-molybdenum steel tube frame and a carbon/Kevlar monocoque with a carbon body shell and carbon/aluminum underbody. All this means superb strength and body rigidity and low weight.

The car rolls 19” or 20” alloy wheels with central locking and fitted with ultra-performance tires. Behind the wheels, there are 6-piston calipers front/ rear with 378mm ventilated discs.

There is a removable steering wheel, LED daytime running lights, carbon fiber rear wing, double wishbone suspension for both axles, front anti roll bar, adjustable ground clearance and a high-performance ABS system.

In pure “Gumpert spirit”, the Apollo S is built with one and only purpose – PURE PERFORMANCE!

  • Top Gear Test Track Summed Up

Diehard Top Gear fans remember the times when the power lap board was pretty clean and simple – the Pegani Zonda C12 S took the lead right from the start and dominated the Top Gear Test track for 3 whole seasons. As the episodes rolled however, things sort of got out of hand and it became very hard to follow which is what and when.

Recently we stumbled upon a chart which manages to round up all the times achieved and all the information available in a nutshell. Well… quite a big nutshell but still. At the very beginning we see a wheel-type graphic  which sorts all the cars that were tested by year of airing and track time and even indicates the weather conditions for every run.

Scroll down bellow and we get a more comprehensive time table of those same cars and the respective leaders marked in yellow. We personally, found out how cars which have held the lead the power board for a limited amount of time, tend to get lost in our consciousness (i.e. the McLaren Mercedes SLR).

Then there are the memorable runs such as the one of the Koenigsegg CCX which gained massive benefits from the Top Gear-suggested rear wing. Or the Bugatti Veyron‘s lap which at the time was eagerly expected but eventually flopped on the finish line ending up in the forth position leaving the Gumpert Apollo an undisputed king of times for 3 more seasons.

From then, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport makes a brief appearance but 2 episodes later, the Ariel Atom 500 V8 pretty much embarrasses everyone and climbs the ladder so high that even as we speak, it still is the fastest road legal thing ever tested on the track.

Further down, there’s some info on the top 10 most affordable cars that were “power lapped” on the track, some info about the track itself and… some say there’s a word or two about the Stig as well.

Finally, a number of awards which can only underline the show’s touch of comedic genius. The info graphic was styled and compiled by Boost Labs which deal with technology and design and share a fair amount of passion about cars believe it or not.

  • Ford Shelby GT500 with “the World’s Most Powerful V8”

Ford-Shelby-GT500-thumbThe topic at Ford today apparently is fuel economy. The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 they say, is 1 mpg more efficient than the 2012 model despite the fact that it has 112 more horsepower. Not only that, but there’s also a claim that the 5.8-liter engine under its hood is now the “world’s most powerful production V8” rated at 662 horsepower. Maybe they haven’t heard of the Gumpert Apollo or the Koenigsegg Agera R. But I guess they are in a class of their own.

The 5.8-liter in the GT500 is a typical, lazy rumbling muscle. 395 lb-ft of torque are already at disposal when the rev needle reaches 1000 rpm. More than 90 percent of the peak torque comes in between 2,200 and 5,800 rpm. That thrust availability might be mainly due to the fact that the supercharger alone is 2.3-liters

“Our goal is to create outstanding all-around performance cars, not just stoplight-to-stoplight sprinters,” said Jamal Hameedi, SVT chief engineer. “We’ve backed up this amazing powerplant with a more refined chassis tuning that helps keep the rubber on the pavement without punishing the driver’s spine and six-pot Brembo brakes that dissipate speed with ease stop after stop.”

Indeed, the chassis has been tuned to absorb the road imperfection that can cause instability at high speeds (200+ mph). As a 2013 model, the Ford Shelby GT500 gets a revised front fascia and splitter which improve aerodynamics at 160 mph with around 33 percent over the ones in the 2011 model.

As a result of all that refinement, the Shelby has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in combined. The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is underpowered and 5 mpg less efficient. Checkmate.

The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 will be built at AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich
