  • GTO Engineering reveals final exterior design concept for the new Squalo vehicle

2022 GTO Engineering SqualoGTO Engineering has confirmed that the Squalo will be the production name of the brand’s new vehicle. Also, the team has revealed the final exterior design updates and a first production-ready look of the new 4.0-liter quad-cam power unit.

Squalo means shark in Italian and was chosen for the new lineup due to the vehicle’s shark-like exterior design, stance, and performance rates. Now gaining momentum at pace as the works towards the production-ready vehicle, GTO Engineering has signed off on the all-important exterior design cues including door handles, wing mirrors, and working on a special alloy wheels design.

Squalo will definitely stick to the principles that were first announced. Indeed, the vehicle is going to be sub 1,000kg, adopting a manual gearbox, inspired by the 60s, but with a contemporary twist, and with a bespoke V12 power unit. The vehicle will be built exclusively by GTO Engineering from the ground up at its UK headquarters.

In fact, the engine has been announced as a quad-cam V12, but following the last update in February, it has undergone some additional changes and upgrades, including the surround of the carbs removed, enhanced power output, and more changes that are yet to be announced.

It’s often the small parts of a car that take the longest time. We’re now at a stage where the design models are being created here in the UK and soon we will announce our technical partners working with us on the exterior manufacturing and interiors, as well as wheels and tires. In all my years working in the [automotive] industry, I’ve never been as excited about the creativity of manufacturing and design as I am now.

This is the status update that follows the initial rendering of the intentions for the new vehicle which was initially announced in November 2020.

  • Donkervoort D8 GTO – 400HP and 475Nm

Donkervoort Automobielen has revealed the new D8 GTO, which is homologated for European Union, Switzerland, Russia and the Gulf States as well.

“The European Small Series Type Approval has given us the opportunity and freedom to continue to expand our extremely important export markets (Ed: nearly 70% of Donkervoorts sold are exported). Once again, we are especially grateful to Audi AG for their support during the entire development process of the GTO.”, commented Joop Donkervoort, founder of the make.

The D8 GTO is powered by a five-cylinder 2.5 liter turbocharged petrol engine sourced by Audi. It is tuned to 400HP (294 kW) and 475Nm (350 lb-dt) of torque. The curb weight is just 750 kg (1,653 lbs). 0-100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 255 km/h (255 mph)

  • Ferrari 599 GTO vs Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Nissan GT-R [HD video]

Another great video has been released by Dragtimesinfo. This time the mighty 599 GTO Fiorano meets two tuned beasts – GTR Mk2 Ecutek Stage 2 with 670HP and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Lingenfelter with 730HP.

The 599 GTO Fiorano is powered by a naturally aspirated all-aluminum 6.0 liter V12 with 670HP (493 kW) at 8250RPM and 620 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque at 6500RPM. 0-100 km/h in 3.35 seconds and a top speed of 335 km/h (208 mph). The overall weight is 1 605 kg (3 540 lbs), which is almost 100 kg (220 lbs) less than the standard GTB.

In the first start, the GTO meets the GT-R. The Ferrari is doomed, because of the rainy surface. The GT-R ran ¼ mile in just 11.606 seconds with 210 km/h and crossed the finish line with 300 km/h for just 28.156 seconds.

The battle against the ZR1 was much more interesting, because both cars are RWD. Still, the Corvette manage to beat the 599 crossing the finish line with 309 km/h with time of 29.356 seconds.

    Enjoy the video!

  • Romeo Ferraris Ferrari 599 GTO

Romeo Ferraris has unveiled their tuning program for the superfast gran turismo car – Ferrari 599 GTO. It comes with performance modifications and some minor styling changes. The 6.0 liter naturally aspirated V12 is boosted to 685PS (504 kW) and 633Nm (467 lb-ft), which is an increase of just 15PS and 13Nm. The result is thanks to two upgrades – a high-flow air filter and a different exhaust system. However, the mighty engine can produce up to 710PS (522 kW) and 668Nm (493 lb-ft) after an ECU re-map to make sure that the new hardware upgrades work just fine. This is better increase of 40PS and 48Nm, which the owners should feel. The styling changes include some carbon fiber elements like mirror covers, a front add-on splitter for the bumper and a sporty rear diffuser. All parts are tested, so they won’t spoil the aerodynamics of the 599 GTO.

  • Donkervoort GTO: 340HP, 450 Nm and 750kg

Donkervoort Automobielen in Lelystad and Audi Quattro GmbH announce the next generation of open sports cars: the Donkervoort GTO. The project took two and a half years of development, but it worth it.

GTO is powered by a five-cylinder 340PS and 450Nm 2.5 liter TFSI Audi motor. The weight of the open sports car is around 750kg, so the power-to-weight will be amazing. Compared to the old D8 270RS, the new GTO is about 35 cm longer and 15 cm wider. The GTO is therefore a brand-new designed car. Only sharing 5% of the parts with the D8 270RS and about 30% with the much more recent GT. A milestone in the 34-year history of Donkervoort.

“This weight savings is obtained by redesigning several accessory parts of the motor together with the Audi technicians. For example, amongst others a new intake manifold was developed. Because the intake follows a more favourable route through the motor area it is not only lighter, but has a favourable effect on the achievements of the motor as well. The dashboard in this design of the GTO is equipped with a special race module switch, which can increase the capacity from 340 to 400 HP at once. Connected to this is another Donkervoort novelty: the first car from Lelystad that has ‘traction control’ on board. Only for when it is raining of course.”, commented Joop Donkervoort.

The production of the Donkervoort GTO starts in 2012, whereby it is expected that the first specially designed units will be delivered in the summer. The price of the new GTO is between € 100 000 and € 150 000 excluding taxes.
