  • Maserati GranTurismo

One of the brand’s icons is back: Maserati presents the new GranTurismo, marking a new chapter in a story that began 75 years ago with the Maserati A6 1500.

The GranTurismo coupé combines the high performance typical of a sports car with comfort suitable for long distances, in both the version with a powerful internal combustion engine and with the most innovative 100% electric solutions. It represents a benchmark, embodying the concept of “The Others Just Travel”. This model is taking the House of the Trident forward into the future: it is the first car in the brand’s history to adopt a 100% electric powertrain.

From an aesthetic point of view, the GranTurismo design represents an ideal balance between beauty and functionality, without ostentation.  With undeniably unique and immediately recognisable lines: a pure shape suitable to cover best-in-class mechanics, emphasising the purity of its forms and its refined design cues.

The classic proportions of the brand’s cars have been maintained, with the long bonnet and the central body intersected by the four fenders. Conversely, the roof line drops dynamically to emphasise the curve of the pillar that features the iconic Trident logo.

Developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab and produced at the Mirafiori manufacturing hub in Turin, the GranTurismo is 100% made in Italy and epitomises “Italian luxury performance”, a concept typical of all Maserati models.

The new coupé is equipped with the revolutionary V6 Nettuno engine, available in two versions: the Modena, with the 490-hp 3.0-litre V6 Nettuno Twin Turbo; the high-performance Trofeo version is based on the same engine, upgraded to a maximum power of 550 hp.

Alternatively, the GranTurismo Folgore adopts a 100% electric battery-based powertrain. The Folgore system is based on 800-volt technology and has been developed with cutting-edge technical solutions derived from Formula E. It offers superb performance, made possible by the three powerful 300-kW permanent magnet motors.

The battery has a nominal capacity of 92.5 kWh and a discharge capacity of 560 kW, to continuously transmit around 760 hp to the wheels.  The specific set-up and innovative layout of the battery result in the containment of vehicle height to 1353 mm, without compromising its sporty nature. The shape of the battery pack, known as ‘T-bone’, forms part of Maserati’s “zero compromise” approach and avoids placing the battery modules under the seats, mainly moving them around the central tunnel and therefore considerably lowering the car’s H-point.

In terms of technical architecture, the new model is the result of an innovative project that makes extensive use of lightweight materials such as aluminium and magnesium, together with high-performance steel. Such a multi-material approach required new manufacturing processes to be created, resulting in best-in-class weight levels.

This approach is paired with new Atlantis High electrical/electronic architecture, based on canFD messages sent at speeds of up to 2 ms. The system also comes with advanced level 5 cyber-security and flash-over-the-air features. The fulcrum is the Vehicle Domain Control Module (VDCM) master controller, a 100% Maserati project consisting of the software that provides 360° control of all the most important car systems, for the best driving experience in all conditions.

In the interior, the Maserati GranTurismo’s modern cabin is equipped with Innovative systems, including the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) Multimedia system, the latest infotainment, a comfort display that brings together the main functions in an integrated touchscreen interface, a digital clock and the Heads-up Display (available as an option).

The GranTurismo also offers an “all-round sound experience”, guaranteed by the iconic signature sound of the Maserati engine, even in the electric version thanks to innovative work by engineers at the Maserati Innovation Lab. The sound experience is completed by the immersive Sonus faber 3D sound system.   Designed and made by Italian craftsmen in sound, the audio system offers two levels of customisation, giving it up to 19 speakers and 3D sound with an output of up to 1,195 W, for depth of field and truly unique roundness of sound.*

At launch, the GranTurismo is also available in the PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary Launch Edition, a limited series featuring exclusive content and dedicated to its recent 75th anniversary.

Sportiness, luxury and comfort: by focusing on customer requests from the earliest stages of development onwards, the new GranTurismo is enabling Maserati to solve the impossible equation of combining sports performance with comfort suitable for long distances, both with powerful internal combustion engines and with the most innovative 100% electric solutions. It represents a benchmark in the segment.

    • Sound system as standard: 14 speakers, 860-watt output. Optional sound system: 19 speakers, 1,195-watt output
  • Maserati at Geneva Show: What Did the Team Offer to the Audience?

2017 Maserati LevanteMaserati chose the Geneva Show scene to unveil its first ever SUV to the world: the Levante. With a name, inspired by the wind, the fresh vehicle joins the club of luxury SUVs along with Quattroporte, Ghibli, GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

So, what makes this vehicle special? We should mention design characteristics, exclusivity and definitely the refined performance. Also, the team has paid special attention to the interior, that has been crafted with finest materials: the cabin is spacious and offers cozy and pleasurable ride with the panoramic electric sunroof, along with coupe-sleek external lines.

Levante SUV shares the same architecture as Quattroporte and Ghibli, but also offers some new features as fine-tuned suspension, capable of going on- and off-road and electronically controlled damping with four corner air-springs that provide five dynamic ride levels.

    2017 Maserati Levante

In terms of performance, the SUV is geared with a 3.0-liter V6 Twin-Turbo petrol unit, capable of producing 350hp or 450hp (depending on the model) and a 275hp 3.0-liter V6 Turbo Diesel engine. All of the power units are paired to a Q4 intelligent all-wheel drive system.

All this means that Levante S (430hp) finishes the 0-100km/h (62mph) in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of 264km/h (194mph). This model provides combined NEDC-cycle consumption of 10.9l/100km. On the other hand, the 350hp version needs 6 seconds to complete the 0-100km/h sprint and offers a top speed of 251km/hwith combined cycle consumption of 10.7l/km. The diesel unit covers 0-100 in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 230km/h with consumption, measured at 7.2l/100km.

The Quattroporte on display is indeed the GTS version with 530hp 3.8-liter Ferrari-produced V8 Twin-Turbo unit with peak torque of 710Nm that allows the vehicle to go from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds, also offered with Zegna Edition interior.

And the flagship mode, the GranTurismo MC Starale is also on display. Geared with naturally-aspired 4.7-liter 460hp V8 unit, this sweetie goes from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5seconds and has a top speed of 303km/h.

  • Infiniti Teases with a Sketch of Concept Vision GranTurismo

Infiniti is trying to be as mysterious as possible and keeps up with the teasing in regards to the Infiniti Concept Vision GranTurismo. This time around, there have been released new teaser sketches of the car. Little by little we will get to see this awaited vehicle, but the question is WHEN EXACTLY?

Time is running and our patience is running out too. I really hope the waiting will not be in vain.

This Infiniti is going to be another addition to GranTurismo 6 in a soon-to-be-update. From what we have gathered so far, we can see that the concept is an aerodynamic sports car which is fitted with a ventilated hood, dazzling bodywork and an undoubtedly well-crafted windshield. What is more, the outlines of the car are further complimented by a sleek and flowing roofline as well as the company’s trademark C-pillar. Additionally, the car is also equipped with a carbon fiber rear diffuser, a center-mounted exhaust system and a rear wing which kind of reminds me of the shape of a boomerang.

Stay tuned for more is yet to be released. Meanwhile, share what your opinion about the future Infiniti Concept Vision GranTurismo. Expectations up or expectations down?

  • Maserati GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition Shows Pure Italian Style

Maserati-GranTurismo-MC-Centennial-Range-THUMBMaserati GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition was introduced a month ago at the New York International Auto Show. With it the company adds to its unique high quality product range. Maserati is currently reaching into new high-potential markets because of the great demand for Italian style and performance. The new GranTurismo models are an embodiment of this technological and design philosophy.

GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition is powered by the revered 454 horsepower (334 kW), 4.7 liter V8 engine. The car is being offered in Coupe and Convertible derivatives. What immediately catch the eye are the new three special ‘three-layer’ color schemes that were added to the four already available for the GranTurismo MC.

In addition, there is a wide choice of wheels, with four special finishes for the MC and Trofeo designs. At the center of the wheels appears the medal-shaped centenary logo. The latter is available in two finishes: matte Smoke grey and Charcoal grey.

For the interior of the cars is used black leather for the seats, dashboard and steering wheel. They are also strikingly offset by the red, white and blue of the full-length seat profiles and also include stitching in a color that mimics that of the laser engraved details on the wheels.

Of course, carbon fiber can also be seen inside. It was utilized for the fittings on the dashboard, seat surrounds and a kick panel where the centenary logo takes place. GranTurismo MC Centennial Editon range will be available alongside the current line-up. Sales are scheduled to start in July 2014.

  • 2012 Geneva Motor Show: Maserati GranTurismo Sport

Maserati GranTurismo Sport will be the successor of the GranTurismo S. It is currently exhibited at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The sports car is powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine with 460 PS (338 kW) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque. 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox or 6-speed electro actuated gearbox, with dry twin-plate clutch.

The new GranTurismo Sport is fitted with the Sport Skyhook system, an evolution of the continuous damping control system that makes the car even more reactive and fun to drive, whilst at the same time increasing passenger comfort. In SPORT mode the car is pin sharp in responding to the driver’s input, while in normal mode it constantly adapts the damping to absorb the roughness of the surface for a smoother ride. All this equates to a superb handling capability that combines sports performance and comfort in all driving conditions.

The exterior comes with minor changes – revised front bumper, new badge and new headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights.

The interior features new seats and a new steering wheel, and aluminum pedals. The seats are upholstered in Poltrona Frau leather. There are also some EcoChrome grey accents.

With these characteristics, the new GranTurismo Sport follows in the footsteps of one of the most successful cars in the entire history of Maserati.

  • Maserati GranTurismo Sport Premiere at Geneva

Maserati-GranTurismo-Sport-thumbMaserati plan to make a premiere of their new GranTurismo Sport at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show this year. It will be a replacement for the current GranTurismo S. The thing is, the company wants us to think it’s new but what we actually have here is a restyled interior, a new bumper and a revisited engine.

Supposedly the new front bumper “optimizes” airflow even further by scooping larger amounts of air to cool the brakes and engine. The front lights employ a new style and house DRL LED lights to keep up with the competition while the taillights are a but faded. Interior changes have also been made – redesigned seats and a sporty steering wheel. We just hope that by sporty they mean less buttons and controls and more.. well.. steering wheel.

Most probably the most meaningful update is that of the 4.7l V8 which now develops 10 more (460 bhp) horsepower. It’s not groundbreaking but one can never have enough, right?

  • Maserati at the European Motor Show Brussels

Maserati-Benelux-shadowMaserati Benelux took part in the 90th European Motor Show in Brussels where it showcased a lineup of four luxury performance cars and girls dressed in Fendi. Fendi is a fashion line which is in partnership with Maserati for the two companies have a lot in common – quality, craftsmanship and elegance obviously. Some 15.000 VIP guests attended the event. That included artists, customers, business partners and government representatives. Maserati’s models didn’t seem to wear any clothes at all and had strange names such as: the  Quattroporte GT S, GranTurismo MC Stradale, the S Automatic and the GranCabrio Sport.

But we have heard them before, haven’t we? Yes, the all-sensible Quattroporte has four doors and the practicality of an IKEA bedroom and yet it somehow doesn’t emanate boredom and dreariness. In fact this Sport GT S version has a 4.7 V8 engine that delivers 440 hp and 490 Nm of torque which makes it as exciting as owning a bear. The exhaust system is also partially to blame for all that power. There are valves that control the back pressure within the system and in SPORT mode all the taps let loose with the final result being a beautiful symphony of thunder and power.

The GranTurismo S Automatic bares the same 4.7 V8 with virtually the same specs and yet, because it is lighter than the Quattroporte, it has a higher top speed and slightly better road manners. It also features an innovative self-adapting automatic transmission which can be set up to change gears even at 7200 RPM.

Then there is the hardcore, lightweight Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. It is the flagship performance car of Maserati for now and it is designed to meet the need of the most picky car enthusiasts. The Stradale benefits great handling and aerodynamics thanks to the company’s experience on the race track. Engine size remains the same (a 4.7 V8) but power is up by 10hp resulting in the blistering 450 bhp and 510Nm of torque. A 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes just 4.6 seconds and the top speed reaches the 300 km/h mark.

Last but not least, the GranCabrio Sport, designed for sunny days, makes an appearance. Power is from the same upgraded 4.7 V8 (450hp) Its specially tuned, yet based on the Quattroporte Sport GT S six-speed transmission includes a super-fast MC Auto Shift mode. The Skyhook active suspension has also been revamped for the greater handling performance. Other than the fact that it is a soft-top one can notice a change in the lines, the nose, the details – character laden profile with this GranCabrio Sport indeed.

Maserati ended a perfectly successful 2011 which saw an increase in sales by 10% or so. North America remains the biggest Maserati importer with 2465 units sold in the past 12 months while China is trailing behind as the world’s second largest Maserati admirer
