  • Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition

For over four decades the Toyota Supra has earned a reputation as an icon among sports car enthusiasts. From its first-generation roots as the Celica Supra in 1979 to its current fifth-generation form as the GR Supra, the model has captured drivers’ hearts over the years with a blend of power, handling, tech, and style. For 2024, Toyota pays tribute to that history with an eye-popping 45th Anniversary Edition.

As an ode to the 1990’s models, the GR Supra 45th Anniversary edition will be available in a deep orange Mikan Blast (“mikan” means orange in Japanese) or ice cold Absolute Zero. Built on the 3.0 Premium Grade, this GR Supra’s low-slung, condensed extreme design is complemented by a large, manually adjustable rear spoiler. Rising about three inches above the rear decklid, the spoiler has an adjustment screw that allows drivers to change its angle and influence the amount of downforce being applied to rear wheels.

The 45th Anniversary Edition also features matte-black finished 19-inch aluminum wheels and black painted opposite mounted brake calipers that wear a GR logo up front. A black side panel graphic with a cutout Supra logo sweeps upward along the side, accentuating the vehicle’s contours. Altogether, the special edition brings a touch of nostalgia and flair to the 2024 Supra lineup with a look reminiscent of the MkIV model of big screen fame. The 45th Anniversary Edition will be limited to 900 units, split evenly between Mikan Blast and Absolute Zero. The engine will be flanked by exclusive 45th Anniversary Edition Mikan Blast strut tower braces that bear the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing logo. It will be available in both manual and automatic transmission options and will be powered by the same B58 inline six-cylinder 3.0-liter turbocharged engine on all 3.0 Supra models, outputting 382-hp and 368 lb.-ft. of torque.

The GR Supra 45th Anniversary Edition sticks with the nameplate’s playbook of offering unique versions since its relaunch. Since the model returned to the market in 2019, Toyota has rolled out Launch, A91, A91 Carbon Fiber, and A91MT editions. Additionally, the GR Supra has continued to evolve over the past four model years, with changes like increased horsepower and torque on the 3.0 models, updates to handling dynamics, the addition of a 2.0-L 4-cylinder model, and the addition of a Manual Transmission option. In 2020 Toyota GAZOO Racing also started producing a GR Supra GT4 model for racing.

  • Toyota GR H2 Racing Concept

At a press conference of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) at Circuit de la Sarthe in western France on June 9, Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda revealed for the first time the hydrogen engine vehicle prototype “GR H2 Racing Concept”.

Developed with future competition in its sights, the prototype’s unveiling was spurred by a recent announcement by the ACO, the organizer of Le Mans 24 Hours, that it would allow hydrogen-engine vehicles to compete―in addition to fuel cell electric vehicles―in the race’s hydrogen category.

Speaking at the press conference, Toyoda congratulated the ACO on the centenary of the Le Mans 24 Hours (Le Mans) endurance race and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to hone cars through the race.

Toyota has been competing using a hydrogen-engine Corolla in the Super Taikyu Series since Round 3 of the 2021 season and raced the same car in the IDEMITSU 1500 SUPER ENDURANCE 2022 at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit in December 2022. By doing so, it has been honing its technologies in the harsh environment of motorsports and, with like-minded partners in and outside the automotive industry, accelerating its efforts for producing, transporting, and using hydrogen toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society. Toyota intends to further advance such efforts for making ever-better motorsports-bred cars and realizing a carbon-neutral society and it looks forward to taking on the challenge of a new generation of Le Mans 24 races.

  • Toyota GR Corolla

The first-ever 2023 GR Corolla might be the newest member of TOYOTA’S GAZOO Racing sports car family, but this hot hatch is ready to make a big impression on North American streets. Rooted in rally, developed under the scrutiny of master driver Akio Toyoda and inspired by Toyota’s sports car lineage, GR Corolla looks to rocket to the top of driver wish lists as it debuts at dealerships later this year.

Powered by the lightweight, compact-yet-powerful G16E-GTS turbocharged, three-cylinder engine that pumps out an impressive 300 horsepower, GR Corolla will come in three grades: the Core grade, Circuit Edition and the limited, track-focused, MORIZO Edition. >GR Corolla Core grade is expected to arrive at dealership lots in the Fall of 2022. The MORIZO Edition is expected in Winter 2023 and Circuit Edition is expected in Spring 2023.

GR Corolla’s impressive output is thanks in part to a unique triple exhaust that reduces back-pressure for maximum power delivery. The Core grade and Circuit Edition push out 300 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, while the MORIZO Edition hits 295 lb.-ft. High strength engine components and a turbocharger also help GR Corolla punch above its weight. With a max boost of 25.2 PSI on the GR Corolla Core grade and Circuit Edition and 26.3 PSI on the MORIZO Edition, GR Corolla models have a manufacturer estimated 0-60 mph time of about five seconds.

Peak torque output on the Core grade and Circuit Edition hits between 3,000-5,500 rpm, with max horsepower at 6,500 rpm. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing engineers have aggressively tuned the G16E engine for additional power on the MORIZO Edition, with peak torque coming in between 3,250-4,600 rpm. Regardless of the model, drivers will find satisfying torque across the powerband.

Exclusively available with an intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), GR Corolla’s short throw shifter and moderately tuned clutch keep drivers engaged with hands-on thrills. iMT is off by default for drivers who prefer finding the rev on their own but is easily turned on by the push of a button to the left of the steering wheel. For further responsiveness customization, Eco, Sport, Track and Custom drive mode selector comes standard on all grades.

Toyota’s GR-FOUR All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) drivetrain brings rally-inspired engineering to the GR Corolla. With the twist of a dial or a push for Track mode, drivers can adjust the GR-FOUR system to fit a variety of road conditions and driving styles with 60-40, 50-50 or 30-70 torque distribution to the front and rear wheels.

The GR Corolla is built on Toyota’s GA-C platform, with enhanced frame reinforcements developed specifically for GR Corolla at the GR Factory at Toyota Motomachi plant.

Available Core grade colors include Ice Cap, Black and Supersonic Red, all paired with a color keyed roof and rear lip spoiler, GR-FOUR stamped side rockers and wide-fender flares. On the inside, seating for five will come with GR-logoed fabric sport seats.

The Circuit Edition will be a limited-run model available for 2023 only. Standard colors are Ice Cap, Supersonic Red and Heavy Metal with the same GR-FOUR stamped side rockers and wide fenders as the Core grade. It adds a forged carbon fiber roof, vented bulge hood, a sporty rear spoiler, Brin-Naub® suede and synthetic leather-trimmed trimmed sport seats with red accents and a leather wrapped MORIZO signed shift knob.

The MORIZO Edition sheds the back seat in the name of weight savings and will be available in Windchill Pearl and a MORIZO Edition exclusive NEW matte finished Smoke gray color. It also comes equipped with a forged carbon fiber roof, rear lip spoiler, vented bulge hood, Brin-Naub® and synthetic leather-trimmed sport seats with red stitching, red mesh inserts and Ultrasuede® wrapped MORIZO signed shift knob.

All grades come equipped with Toyota’s all-new, US-developed multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen standard. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) will also come standard.

    Inspired Engineering

In 2007, Akio Toyoda wanted to expand the company’s racing experience in its car development activities. As a starting point, he chose to compete in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the grueling endurance race held on the famous track winding through the German forest. It was an unofficial Toyota activity at the time, so the team was called GAZOO Racing and was made up of employees, including Akio Toyoda driving under the alias of MORIZO.

With a limited budget, the newly named team entered the race with two second-hand Altezzas. Despite adversity, both cars finished the challenging race, and a new era of Toyota motorsports and product development, one founded on a spirit of challenge aimed at instilling change, began.

As TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s first wholly developed and manufactured model for the North American market, the GR Corolla carries this spirit forward.

With professional drivers, experts and MORIZO at the wheel, GR Corolla was tested repeatedly at some of Japan’s leading circuits, including Fuji Speedway, Suzuka and Tsukuba Circuit. In addition, the GR team carried out heavy duty dirt and snow driving with a Japanese Rally Championship driver. No road was left untested in the process, so engineers and technicians could sharpen acceleration and control worthy of the GR name.

    GR Factory

To help meet the performance goals for the GR Corolla, Toyota has established a dedicated GR Factory at its production facility in Motomachi, Japan. It is the birthplace of legends such as the Lexus LFA and Supra A80 and is now home to the first GR production line, where GR Corolla and GR Yaris are assembled.

The body and component assembly lines comprise several different cells connected by automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) rather than the conveyors featured in conventional car plants. This fully flexible method of working, with many manual assembly techniques, enables precise body and suspension alignment, with variations in vehicle dimensions and weight kept to a minimum.

Being assembled by experts means that each GR Corolla takes longer than a conventional mass-produced car. The assembly line has been streamlined for precision, with elements such as body alignment and weld checks to ensure that each GR Corolla is crafted with meticulous care and attention.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has brought together highly skilled technicians from throughout the company to work on the GR Corolla. This team not only serves to assemble every GR Corolla but also helps to enhance the technical skills of other workers across Toyota facilities when learning is shared. It is a philosophy that’s part of the overall GR mission at Toyota, developing people, growing the automotive enthusiast and motorsport community and making ever better cars.

    The GR-FOUR System

With all TOYOTA GAZOO Racing sports cars firmly rooted in motorsports, it only makes sense that the GR Corolla’s drivetrain was born from the rigors of rally racing.

At the heart of the new GR Corolla is the GR-FOUR All-Wheel-Drive system, Toyota’s first sports all-wheel-drive system in over 20 years. Developed in collaboration with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team and honed by WRC drivers, it delivers exceptional levels of traction and control with engineering designed to optimize drive power to each wheel, while remaining simple and lightweight.

Inspired by rally driving, the GR-FOUR system is designed for a variety of conditions. Whether the driver is looking to adjust performance for dirt, rain or snow, or just in the mood for a different feel, the GR-FOUR system offers settings to match.

With a twist of the dial, GR Corolla adjusts its four-wheel drive performance to fit the driver’s needs. For everyday situations, drivers can set a front/rear torque distribution of 60:40. For sporty driving, balance can shift to the rear, with 30:70 distribution for a fun-to-drive quality on winding roads and circuits. For maximum stability, a 50:50 setting can be used for fast, competitive track driving on circuits or special stages. In each mode, the torque balance will automatically adjust in response to the driver’s inputs, vehicle behavior and road or track conditions.

The GR Corolla Circuit and MORIZO Editions are also equipped with front and rear Torsen® Limited-Slip Differentials (LSD), which offer enhanced cornering performance and grip with control of left and right-hand drive torque distribution on the front and rear axles. The Core grade comes with AWD open differentials standard, with the dual LSD available as part of the Performance Package on the Core grade.

    Revolutionary Three-Cylinder Turbo Engine

For GR Corolla, Toyota engineers took the same turbocharged G16E-GTS powerplant used in the GR Yaris and boosted its output for performance you will feel. Thanks to a three-pipe exhaust system, GR Corolla produces 300 hp and a satisfying exhaust note without any augmented engine noise. For the pure joy of its rumble, the center pipe is open while idling and up to 20 mph, where it will then close. At 4,500 RPM’s the pipe reopens, reducing exhaust backpressure for powerful acceleration.

The G16E also benefits from motorsport technologies that maximize performance, including multi-oil jet piston cooling, large-diameter exhaust valves and a part-machined intake port. Displacing 1,618 cubic centimeters, it produces a maximum power of 300 hp and 273 lb-ft. of torque on the Core grade and Circuit Edition and 295 pound-feet of torque in the MORIZO Edition model.

Compact and lightweight, the DOHC 12-valve engine features a single-scroll ball-bearing turbo and is matched to a 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with rev-matching engineered to accommodate high torque levels. The turbocharger is integrated in the exhaust manifold, reducing weight, while control of wastegate bypass gases is used to improve the catalyst’s warm-up efficiency.

Combustion is fed by Toyota’s D-4S direct and port fuel injection system, which operates at high pressure for maximum fuel dispersion, for a manufacturer’s estimated 21 city/28 highway/24 combined mpg rating.

Wide, Rigid and Designed to Handle

To achieve control worthy of the GR badge, a highly rigid body was specially constructed for GR Corolla. Based off the GA-C platform, GR Corolla is designed for handling performance that rewards the driver.

Enhanced rigidity comes from significantly more weld points in the frame, particularly to strengthen joints, with 349 more spot welds. Further gains are made through extensive use of structural adhesive, which increases the joint rigidity between component parts. There are just over nine additional feet of adhesive on the Core grade/Circuit Edition and nearly 20 more feet on the MORIZO than the Corolla Hatch.

Additional structural support includes underfloor tunnel and rear wheelhouse braces. The MORIZO Edition adds two braces that span the rear of the cabin for structural support. The brace also serves as an in-car “tire rack” that allows a spare set to be vertically placed for a track day.

The front suspension is a MacPherson-type strut design that is light weight and maximizes the tires’ grip potential. Made up of circuit-tuned coil springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars, the front suspension is designed to maximize power delivery to the wheels and provide optimum cornering capability on all surfaces. The rear suspension uses a double-wishbone type multilink assembly that accommodates the AWD system’s goal of maximum agility and stability. The MORIZO Edition tweaks the suspension with a stiffer spring rate on the circuit-tuned coils and red-painted monotube shock absorbers.

Wide tread tires ensure high cornering performance while maintaining the excellent high-speed stability of the GR Corolla’s 103.9-inch-long wheelbase. The Core grade and Circuit Edition wear 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and come equipped with 18-in. gloss-black 15-spoke cast alloy wheels. The MORIZO Edition wears 245/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that are mounted on 18-in. forged alloy wheels.

Stopping power comes from opposed, fixed-caliper disc brakes with 14-inch x 1.1-inch ventilated and slotted rotors outfitted with 4-piston aluminum calipers on all grades. At the rear, 11.7-in. x 0.7-in. ventilated rotors with 2-piston aluminum fixed-caliper disc brakes come standard on the Core grade. Red-painted GR logoed calipers are standard on the Circuit and MORIZO Editions. The red-painted front and rear calipers are available with the Performance Package on the Core grade.

    Lightweight and Aerodynamic

Throughout GR Corolla, there has been a focus on saving weight to maximize the performance potential without compromising strength and safety. This rigorous approach is particularly evident in the car’s construction, with extensive use of lightweight metals and materials used in key areas.

On the Circuit and MORIZO Editions, the roof is made of a forged carbon sheet molding compound. This lightweight, highly rigid material is lighter than steel, helping lower the car’s center of gravity.

Aluminum is used for the hood while front door panels are steel on all grades, with light and strong high-tensile steel in critical areas designed so that the car’s structure can help safely absorb and dissipate impact forces.

The MORIZO Edition takes weight savings a few steps further. The removal of the back seat, use of forged wheels and ounce-cutting measures like no rear door speakers, no rear window regulator or rear wiper, makes the MORIZO Edition about 100-pounds lighter difference than the Circuit Edition.

Curb weight for the Core grade comes in at 3,252 pounds (3,262 pounds when equipped with the dual LSD option), Circuit at 3,285 pounds, and MORIZO at 3,186 pounds.

GR Corolla’s 0.35 coefficient of drag is partially attributed to GR Corolla’s ascending nose and tapering roof line. Wind flow is directed onto the rear lip spoiler to reduce drag. As with rally cars, the shaping of the front and rear canards and GR-FOUR stamped lower rockers efficiently channel airflow down the sides of the vehicle and a flat underfloor helps reduce drag and improve stability.

    Rally Ready Hot Hatch Style

The wide stance and broad hatchback design of GR Corolla projects a strong, attack-ready style with its black GR badged functional matrix grille. The dynamic exterior includes functional air ducts flanking both sides on the Core grade and MORIZO Edition, and a stylish front grille featuring integrated LED fog lamps and GR badge comes standard on all models. Auto on/off LED headlamps and LED DRLs are also standard on all grades.

All grades feature wide front and rear fender-flares. The Circuit and MORIZO Edition have a bulge hood with functional air ducts. The forged carbon fiber roof on the Circuit and MORIZO Editions are matched with a matte black roof-mounted shark fin antenna. The Core grade features an aluminum hood with a color-keyed roof and matching shark fin antenna, gloss black power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators and gloss black window molding. The Circuit Edition comes with heated side mirrors standard, which are available with the Cold Weather Package on the Core grade. Side, front and rear GR Corolla badges are standard on all models.

At the rear, all models feature a rear lower bumper cover with functional air vents, which come in gloss black on the Circuit Edition. The tapering of the roof and rear pillars are complimented by a high mounted black rear sport spoiler on the Circuit Edition and a color matched rear-lip spoiler on the Core grade and MORIZO Edition. The wide track and flaring of the rear fenders emphasize the car’s wide, low silhouette, with a ground clearance of 5.3 inches on the Core grade and Circuit Edition and 5.1 inches on the MORIZO Edition.

    Race Inspired Interior

The design of the GR Corolla’s interior reflects the car’s performance, especially around the driver’s cockpit.

Incorporating the feedback of professional drivers, a GR Full TFT meter was newly developed with a 12.3-inch color Multi-Information Display (MID) that shows 4WD mode, turbo pressure, gear position indicator and tachometer. The brightly lit display is designed for easy viewing in any condition and even features a start-up GR animation.

The shift lever is designed for a quick throw between gears. Positioned where the driver’s arm is naturally lowered from steering, the action is light with short shift strokes, adding to GR Corolla’s performance quality. GR Corolla uses a pull type mechanical parking brake.

The Core grade’s cabin is finished with black and silver details. Drivers and passengers will find fabric trimmed sport seats with gray stitching and GR badged headrests; 6-way adjustable driver’s seat with suede covered sheet seatback pocket; 4-way adjustable front passenger seat with seatback pocket are standard on the Core grade.

The Circuit Edition’s interior is finished in black with red trim details around the door handles, center console, steering wheel and side air vents. For an added touch, a leather wrapped “Morizo” signed shift knob comes on the launch year Circuit Edition. Drivers and front passengers are cradled by Brin-Naub® suede and synthetic leather-trimmed sport seats with red stitching, red mesh inserts, seat back pockets and GR badged headrests. The driver’s seat is 6-way adjustable, and passenger’s seats are 4-way adjustable.

The MORIZO Edition offers exclusive red and black trim and details, including a red seat belt strap and a GR Ultrasuede®-wrapped, tilt/telescopic sport steering wheel with red sight line. • Toyota GR Corolla Goes Wild with MORIZO Edition

2023 Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition - Front Angle

How does TOYOTA GAZOO Racing squeeze even more excitement into the ultra-hot GR Corolla? Like any enthusiasts, they take it to the garage and figure out how to add power, reduce weight and enhance handling – all while keeping an eye on building a car that’s ready to jump from the street to the track. Then, after tweaking, testing and re-testing, they come away with a GR Corolla that can carry only one name: GR Corolla MORIZO Edition.

The purpose-built MORIZO Edition adds even more heat to Toyota’s GR lineup, which includes the performance ready GR Corolla Core Grade, launch-year-only Circuit Edition, as well as GR Supra and GR86. The MORIZO Edition was named for GR Master Driver and Toyota president Akio Toyoda. This track-oriented version of GR Corolla was designed to meet specifications desired by Toyoda himself, with tight handling, a high power-to-weight ratio and a highly rigid body. Only 200 numbered-units will be produced for model year 2023.

Like the Core and Circuit Edition, the MORIZO Edition comes in at 300 horsepower, with torque bumped up to 295 lb.-ft. versus the 273 lb.-ft. available in its siblings. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing engineers retuned GR Corolla’s engine for additional power, with peak torque coming in at 3250-4600RPM. The MORIZO edition has an exclusive close ratio intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) and shorter differential gears for satisfying acceleration across the power band.

GR Engineers removed nearly 100 pounds of weight versus the GR Corolla Circuit Edition model, preliminary curb weight is estimated at 3,186 pounds (GR Corolla Circuit Edition preliminary curb weight is estimated at 3,292 pounds). Primary weight reduction came from the removal of the rear seats, a forged carbon fiber roof (also used on the GR Corolla Circuit Edition) and forged wheels. The two-seater design also allowed for additional weight removal in the rear, with no rear door speakers or rear window regulator, even the rear wiper blade and motor were pulled to save every ounce.

For tight handling, the MORIZO edition has extra-wide grip, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires mounted on 18-inch forged alloy wheels with an exclusive matte black finish and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing logo on the rim. It will be equipped with red-painted monotube shock absorbers and have unique suspension tuning for a precision driving feel fit for racing.

GR engineers have also increased rigidity, with two additional floor braces and one additional rear strut brace, and its frame has an additional 349 spot welds and over six meters more structural adhesive than a standard Corolla hatch frame. The MORIZO Edition comes equipped with the GR-Four All Wheel Drive system, with selectable 30-70, 50-50, and 60-40 front-to-rear wheel power settings for custom control. Dual limited slip differentials come standard.

On the inside of the MORIZO Edition, drivers will find exclusive red and black Ultrasuede and leather sport seating with high bolsters and harness holes, and an Ultrasuede wrapped steering wheel with red sightline, shift knob and boot and parking brake lever.

Two braces span the rear of the cabin for structural support, with ample space to fit four tires for a track day. It features the same 12.3-inch digital, color Multi-Information Display (MID) as the Core and Circuit Edition. Toyota’s new Multi-Media System with touchscreen and Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) system come standard.

On the outside it features functional venting, with MORIZO exclusive front brake ducts, and the same forged carbon fiber roof, vented bulge hood and GR-Four stamped side rockers on the Circuit Edition, and aerodynamic features like a flat underfloor and rear lip spoiler. It will be available in Windchill Pearl and a MORIZO Edition exclusive NEW matte finished Gray and be built at the GR Factory at Toyota’s Motomachi Plant. MSRP for will be announced later this year with availability at Toyota dealerships in 2023.

    Revolutionary 3-Cylinder Turbo Engine

For GR Corolla MORIZO grade, we took the same turbocharged G16E-GTS powerplant used in the GR Corolla and bumped the torque. Displacing 1,618 cubic centimeters, it produces a maximum power of 300 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque.

Compact and lightweight, the DOHC 12-valve engine features a single-scroll ball-bearing turbo that’s matched to a 6-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) with rev-matching engineered to accommodate high torque levels. TGR engineers adjusted the transmission gear ratios, differential gear ratio and engine tuning to support sustained acceleration at peak torque on the MORIZO edition. The turbocharger is integrated in the exhaust manifold, reducing weight, while control of wastegate bypass gases is used to improve the catalyst’s warm-up efficiency.

The G16E also benefits from motorsport technologies that maximize performance, including multi-oil jet piston cooling, large-diameter exhaust valves and a part-machined intake port. Combustion is fed by Toyota’s D-4S direct and port fuel injection system, which operates at high pressure for maximum fuel dispersion and efficiency. This compact-yet-powerful three-cylinder engine has increased power for GR Corolla thanks to improved engine exhaust efficiency and a 3-piece muffler with valve capped off with brushed stainless steel tips. This design reduces exhaust pressure and outside noise, which are essential to backpressure performance.

Wide, Rigid and Designed to Handle

To achieve control worthy of the GR badge, a highly rigid body was specially constructed for GR Corolla. Based off the GA-C platform, it produced handling performance that rewards the driver. Enhanced rigidity comes from significantly more weld points in the frame, particularly to strengthen joints. Further gains are made through extensive use of structural adhesive, increasing the joint rigidity between component parts.

The front suspension is a MacPherson-type strut design that offers both light weight and firm handling, maximizing the tires’ grip potential. Made up of circuit-tuned coil springs, monotube shock absorbers and stabilizer bars, the front suspension is designed to deliver all the engine’s power to the road and provide optimum cornering capability on all surfaces. The rear suspension uses a double-wishbone type multilink system that accommodates the AWD system’s goal of maximum agility and stability.

Extra wide tread tires help ensure high cornering performance while maintaining the excellent high speed stability of the GR Corolla’s 103.9-inch long wheelbase. It has 10 more millimeters of tread width than its siblings and wears Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that are mounted to 18” forged alloy wheels.

Braking power comes from opposed, fixed-caliper disc brakes with 14-inch x 1.1-inch ventilated and slotted rotors outfitted with 4-piston red painted, GR-logoed aluminum calipers. At the rear, 11.7-in. x 0.7-in. ventilated rotors with 2-piston aluminum fixed-caliper disc brakes with red-painted calipers and GR logo are standard.

Developed in collaboration with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team and honed by WRC drivers, it delivers exceptional levels of traction and control with engineering designed to optimize drive power to each wheel, while also being simple and lightweight.

Made for rally, the GR-Four system is designed for a variety of conditions. Whether the driver is looking to adjust performance for dirt, rain or snow, or just in the mood for a different feel, the GR-Four system offers settings to match.

With the twist of a dial, GR Corolla can adjust four-wheel drive performance to fit the driver’s needs. For every-day situations, drivers can set a front/rear torque distribution of 60:40; for a more sport setting, balance can shift to the rear, with 30:70 distribution for a fun-to-drive quality on winding roads and circuits; and for maximum stability, a 50:50 setting can be used for fast, competitive track driving on circuits or special stages. In each mode, the torque balance will automatically adjust in response to the driver’s inputs, vehicle behavior and road or track conditions.

The GR Corolla MORIZO Edition is also equipped with front and rear Torsen Limited-Slip Differentials (LSD) which offer enhanced cornering performance and grip with control of left and right-hand drive torque distribution on the front and rear axles.

    Lightweight and Aerodynamic

Throughout the GR Corolla MORIZO grade, there has been a focus on saving weight to maximize the performance potential. This rigorous approach is particularly evident in the car’s construction, with extensive use of lightweight metals and materials used in key areas.

On the MORIZO Edition, the roof is made of a forged (rather than woven) carbon sheet molding compound. This lightweight, highly rigid material keeps off the ounces that steel roof would bring and helps lower the car’s center of gravity.

Aluminum is used for the hood and front door panels, with light and strong high-tensile steel in critical areas to help ensure the car’s structure can still safely absorb and dissipate impact forces.

For the best possible aerodynamic performance, GR Corolla’s nose ascends to a tapering roof line. Wind flow is directed onto the rear lip spoiler to generate extra downforce. As with rally cars, the shaping of the front and rear canards and GR-Four stamped lower rockers efficiently channel airflow down the sides of the vehicle. Hood, fender and rear bumper ducts, and a flat underfloor reduce drag, add downforce and improve stability.

    Rally Ready Hot Hatch Style

The wide stance and broad hatch exterior design of GR Corolla MORIZO edition projects a strong, attack ready style with its black GR badged functional matrix grill. Flanked by functional air ducts on both sides, the front grille comes in gloss-black and features integrated LED fog lamps with auto on/off LED headlamps and LED DRLs standard.

The MORIZO Edition features wide front and rear fender-flares and a bulge hood with functional gloss-black air ducts. Front brake cooling vents are also standard. The Carbon Fiber roof matched with a matte-black roof mounted shark fin antenna. Gloss-black heated power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, gloss-black window molding and black GR Corolla badges are standard.

At the rear, it features a rear lower bumper cover with functional air vents finished in gloss black. The tapering of the roof and rear pillars are complimented by a high mounted matte-black rear spoiler. The wide track and flaring of the rear fenders emphasize the car’s wide and low silhouette.

    Race Inspired Interior

The design of the GR Corolla’s interior reflects the car’s performance, particularly around the driver’s cockpit.

Incorporating the feedback of professional drivers, a GR Full TFT meter was newly developed with a 12.3-inch color Multi-Information Display (MID) that has a GR meter with 4WD mode, turbo pressure, gear position indicator and tachometer. The brightly lit display is designed for easy-viewing in any condition and even features a start-up GR animation.

The shift lever has a shortened stroke for a quick throw between gears. Positioned where the driver’s arm is naturally lowered from steering, the action is light with short shift strokes, adding to the performance quality. GR Corolla MORIZO Edition uses a pull type mechanical parking brake.

The MORIZO Edition’s interior is finished in black with red trim details around the door handles, steering wheel and side air vents. Seating features Brin Naub® suede and synthetic leather trim with red stitching, accentuated by red mesh inserts and GR badged headrests with a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat. A GR Ultra Suede-trimmed tilt/telescopic sport steering wheel with audio, Multi-Information Display, Bluetooth® hands-free phone and voice-command controls comes standard.

For comfort and convenience, drivers will find automatic climate control and power front windows with one-touch auto up/down functionality. Additional features include a standard push button GR engine start/stop button, aluminum sport pedals, two USB charging ports, one 12V auxiliary power outlet, lighted foot wells, front console tray and rear console box and Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging with full charge indicator light.

    Toyota Audio Multimedia

All GR Corollas feature Toyota’s all-new, North American developed Audio Multimedia system. Featuring an 8-inch touchscreen, the system offers an improved user experience and a wide range of enhanced connectivity and convenience features, including being Over-the-Air (OTA) updatable. Users can interact with the new system’s design through touch and voice activation. With Intelligent Assistant available through Drive Connect*, simple phrases like “Hey Toyota” awakens the system for voice-activated commands to search for directions, find Points of Interest (POI), adjust audio controls, change the cabin temperatures and more.

The cloud-based native navigation system also offered through Drive Connect allows for real-time Over-the-Air updates for mapping and Points of Interest (POI), and Google POI data is integrated to ensure up-to-date search capability.

Toyota Audio Multimedia allows for simultaneous dual Bluetooth phone connectivity with support for wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability. A Wi-Fi Connect subscription offers 4G connectivity for up to five devices. Adding to the already robust offering of audio playback ability with HD Radio, USB data and a SiriusXM® Platinum Plan 3-month trial subscription, Wi-Fi Connect also enables the new Integrated Streaming feature, providing the ability to link your separate Apple Music® and Amazon Music subscriptions to the vehicle for onboard control.

The GR Corolla MORIZO Edition offer a host of additional Connected Services. Safety Connect includes an Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), 24/7 Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator and Collision Assistance comes with a 1-year trial service. Service Connect offering drivers the capability of receiving Vehicle Health Reports, Maintenance Alerts and reminders come with a 3-year trial.

    Safety & Other Technology

All GR Corolla grades come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), which includes enhancements made possible by system sensors with improved detection capability. The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection is capable of detecting motorcyclists and guardrails in certain conditions. When making a turn or approaching an intersection, the system is designed to detect certain forward or laterally approaching vehicles and provides audio/visual alerts and automatic braking in certain conditions.

Improved lane recognition delivers refined performance of Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Lane Tracing Assist. GR Corolla will be equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is designed to notify the driver via audible and visual alerts and slight steering force if it senses the vehicle is leaving the lane without engaging a turn signal. When DRCC is set and engaged, Lane Tracing Assist uses visible lane markers or a preceding vehicle to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane.

Automatic High Beams are designed to detect preceding or oncoming vehicles and automatically switch between high beam and low beam headlights. Road Sign Assist is designed to recognize certain road sign information using a forward-facing camera and display them on the multi-information display (MID).

Toyota’s Rear Seat Reminder comes standard on all GR Corolla grades. The feature can note whether a rear door was opened after the vehicle has been turned on, with a reminder message in the instrument cluster after the engine is turned off, accompanied by multitone chimes.

In addition to the TSS 3.0 system, other standard safety features on the GR Corolla include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), which is designed to help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching or positioned in the adjacent lanes, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) for added peace of mind by helping to detect vehicles approaching from either side while backing out and alerting you with a visual and audible warning. Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) also comes standard.

GR Corolla comes with a one year trial subscription of Toyota Safety Connect® at no additional cost — which includes Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Roadside Assistance and Automatic Collision Notification.

    The Gazoo Racing Story

In 2007, Akio Toyoda wanted to expand the company’s use of racing in its car development activities.

Despite adversity, both cars finished the challenging race, and a new era of Toyota motorsports and product development, one founded on a spirit of challenge aimed at instigating change, began.

No road was left unturned in the process, so engineers and technicians could sharpen acceleration and control worthy of the GR name.

    GR Factory

To help meet the performance goals for the GR Corolla, Toyota has established a dedicated GR Factory at its production facility in Motomachi, Japan. It’s the birthplace of legends such as the Lexus LFA and Supra A80 and is now home to the first GR production line, where GR Corolla and GR Yaris are precision built.

Instead of the traditional conveyor system, the body and assembly lines comprise several different cells connected by automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) rather than the conveyors featured in conventional car plants. This fully flexible method of working, with many manual assembly techniques, enables precise body and suspension alignment, with variations in vehicle dimensions and weight kept to a minimum.

Using manual expertise means that the assembly of each GR Corolla takes longer than a conventional mass-produced car. The production line has been streamlined for performance, with elements such as body alignment and weld checks to ensure that each GR Corolla is built with meticulous care and attention.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has brought together highly skilled technicians from throughout the company to work on the GR Corolla. This team not only assembles every GR Corolla but also contributes to the technical skills of workers at other Toyota facilities. It’s a team structure that’s part of the overall GR mission at Toyota, developing people, driving fans, and making ever better cars.

  • 2023 Toyota GR Supra Adds Manual Transmission and Enhanced Drive Dynamics

2023 Toyota GR Supra Manual Transmission

From the moment of its launch in 2019 the GR Supra captured the spirit of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing – one that’s all about the joy of driving. For 2023, it adds one more dynamic element: a six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). For drivers who love the control and rewards offered by precisely timed manual shifts, it might be the Supra they’ve been waiting for.

True to the GR Supra’s thoroughbred engineering quality, this development wasn’t simply a matter of using an off-the-shelf solution. Engineers developed a manual transmission specifically for GR Supra, with components designed specifically to suit the power and torque characteristics of its 3.0-litre 382 horsepower engine. At the same time, the GR Supra’s braking control systems and suspension have been retuned for even better performance – changes that are being introduced throughout the model range.

The manual transmission will be available as an option on the Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium and a limited A91-MT Edition model will also be produced for model year 2023 only. Available colors for the MT 3.0 and 3.0 Premium will include all standard Supra colors plus a new Stratosphere Blue color, which will also be available on Supra 2.0. The A91-MT Edition will be available in Matte White and CU Later Gray. Pricing for 2023 GR Supra MT versions will be announced later this summer and models will be available at Toyota dealerships later this year.

Manual Transmission Designed for Supra Power

Available on the 3.0, 3.0 Premium and a limited A91-MT Edition model. The manual transmission installed in the GR Supra has been engineered and tuned specifically for use with the coupe’s straight-six engine.

The engineering team modified an existing transmission housing, driveshaft and gear set and removed elements that were not required, such as the acoustic package, which reduced weight. At the heart of the transmission is a newly engineered large diameter clutch with a reinforced diaphragm spring. With a larger friction area and a stronger spring, this new component has the high-performance capability appropriate for use with the GR Supra’s high-torque engine.

The newly developed 6-speed manual gearbox also features an intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) programmed with new software that prioritizes sporty performance. When upshifting, the parameters are tuned to optimize engine torque at the moment of clutch engagement and release; on downshifts, the software has been fine-tuned for consistent performance. The iMT is set as the default but, if the driver prefers, it can be switched off in Sport mode.

To avoid a sluggish take-off and a low in-gear acceleration feel, the final drive ratio has been shortened, from 3.15 (in the GR Supra automatic) to 3.46 (in the GR Supra MT). The result is response and gearing appropriate for sports car performance.

Close attention was also paid to how a manual shifter could be accommodated in the driver’s cockpit. The lever ratio was specifically set to minimize the effort required to make shifts and engage reverse gear. While the weight and shape of the 200g gear knob, along with the quality of shift engagement, have all been precisely defined. Ergonomics were also top-of-mind, as the console unit and position of the drive mode selector were adjusted to provide a 1.7-inch clearance between the shift knob and the control panel.

Toyota GR Supra - Manual Transmission

    TOYOTA GAZOO Racing: #savethemanual

The GR Supra was Toyota’s first global GAZOO Racing (GR) model and the dream of Toyota President Akio Toyoda to deliver a car that is purely about the joy of driving.

Subsequently, the introduction of global models, like the GR Yaris and last year’s arrival of the GR86 coupe, have reinforced the special qualities that define the GR brand – cars that are born out of a passion for driving and draw directly on the world championship-winning expertise and experience of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing.

At launch, the 2020 GR Supra was offered with a straight-six 3.0-litre engine with 335 hp/365 lb.-ft. of torque matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. In 2021, the GR team increased the 3.0 Supra to 382 hp and 367 lb.-ft. of torque and introduced a turbocharged four-cylinder GR Supra 2.0 with 255 horsepower and a stout 295 lb.-ft. of torque.

While the car and its performance have received high praise worldwide from media and fans alike, perhaps inevitably the question of whether a manual gearbox would be available persisted. Now that it’s official, the addition of a manual transmission option to the Supra line-up means Toyota will offer all three of its U.S. GR models with a stick, which is standard on the upcoming GR Corolla and available as an option on GR86.

Tuned for Traction, Stability and Agility

The GR Supra’s traction and braking have been optimized for operation with a manual transmission.

With an automatic, it’s possible to use second gear when pulling away uphill when opposite wheels are on surfaces with different grip levels – for example, when the car is parked on partly icy road, progress is smooth with no rolling back or wheel slip. With a manual gearbox, first gear must be used and releasing the clutch brings a greater risk of wheel spin. To address the issue, Toyota engineers have tuned the car’s TRAction Control (TRAC) system to achieve smooth operation like that experienced with an automatic. The system is also optimized for the GR Supra’s characteristic high engine torque, wide tires and rear-wheel drive.

The car’s behavior when accelerating out of a corner is a key element in the “Fun to Drive” quality Toyota has developed for the GR Supra. For the new manual version, the traction control has again been the focus to ensure an ideal balance of agility and stability when exiting a corner on the throttle. TRAC intervention has been calibrated to maintain stability – so the car keeps faithfully to the driver’s intended line – while allowing the right amount of power for a sporty experience.

The ambition to make the GR Supra fun to drive in the most demanding scenarios has helped inspire the introduction of a new Hairpin+ function. This is designed to allow more freedom and reward when taking tight bends on an uphill gradient (more than 5%) with a high-friction road surface. More “freewheel” spin can make such routes more enjoyable to drive, so Toyota has optimized engine torque control to allow a greater difference in the degree of wheel spin on the left and right-side tires.

To counter the possibility of “snap-off” oversteer – something that may be hard to control with the car’s Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) alone – an Anti-Roll Program (ARP) has been adopted for both the manual and automatic versions of the GR Supra. This intervenes at an earlier point with the VSC to cover any sudden loss of grip when the car’s high-response suspension setting it used.

In addition, the Track mode has been tuned to allow for easy drifting with freedom of throttle control. The vehicle remains agile, but there is less risk of spinning thanks to specific engine and torque control.

    Legendary Performance with Spec Variety

It takes a relentless spirit to win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Known as the “Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency,” just completing the race is an achievement. Toyota Gazoo Racing has taken the crown for the past three years.

The same determination that fuels those wins goes into every GR Supra.

For the 2021 model year, Toyota Gazoo Racing kept the pedal down and boosted output of the Supra’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six from 335 to 382 hp, a 14% increase after just one year on the market. Torque rose from 365 lb.-ft. at 1,600-4,500 rpm to 368 lb.-ft. at 1,800-5,000 rpm.

The Supra 3.0 chassis was also tweaked heading into its second year of production. Lightweight aluminum braces were added to increase lateral rigidity, along with front and rear bump stops and new damper tuning. Revised programming for the electric power steering (EPS), Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Active Differential made the Supra more stable through quick transitions, such as compound turns.

But making changes to Supra wasn’t enough for the GR team, in 2021 the Supra 2.0 was added to the lineup.

The 2.0 gave customers an intermediate model between the GR86 and the Supra 3.0. With a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine, this Supra 2.0 shares much of its technology with the 3.0-liter inline-six, including a twin-scroll turbo, direct fuel injection and continuously variable timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. The variable intake valve lift system adjusts intake valve timing and duration. The bottom line is 255 hp at 5,000-6,500 rpm and a stout 295 lb.-ft. peak torque at 1,550 to 4,400 rpm, launching the 2.0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds.

The Supra A91-CF Edition is one more way that the obsessive, gear heads on the GR Team keep things interesting. Additional changes across the Supra lineup for 2022 include standard heated seats in the 3.0 grade and a new red interior for the 3.0 Premium grade. All models with premium audio add full screen Apple Car Play® compatibility.

  • Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition

2021 Toyota GR Supra Heritage Edition

The GR Supra Heritage Edition, which debuted at the 2019 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, returns to the show floor along with its companion car, the GR Supra Sport Top. Both are located in Central Hall, Booth No. 24800 and are expected to be fan favorites once again.

“The original MKIV Supra is considered by many to be one of the most desired vintage Supra models, and we wanted to pay tribute to its legacy,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president – Toyota Division Marketing. “Our team’s approach was to give a serious nod to the legendary A80 while doing justice to the great lines and performance of the new A90.”

In order to conceive the Heritage Edition Supra, the Toyota Motorsports Garage worked with Beree Cox Design to render a prototype design based on the GR Supra that paid homage to the MKIV Supra’s visual cues. From there, it was off to the races to blend the “old” with the new.

LG Motorsports crafted an integrated front splitter and a MKIV Supra wing modified to match the new GR Supra’s proportions. To optimize the aerodynamic balance and efficiency, Toyota and Cripwerks Engineering designed a custom rear diffuser and slotted the GR Supra’s stock front fender vent covers to help relieve pressure built up behind the tires. LA Prep then painted the creation in a vibrant custom color dubbed “Re-Entry Red.”

Lead builder, Marty Schwerter searched for headlights and taillights that would work with the GR Supra’s modern body lines yet resemble those on the MKIV Supra. He ultimately chose to go with custom light buckets with lenses CNC machined from blocks of acrylic.

Precision Turbo & Engine modified a stock turbocharger to produce 18% more airflow to the B58 inline-six cylinder engine. Mission Performance calibrated the engine management system, and a custom intake and three-inch center exit exhaust helps the engine breathe more freely. These modifications increased overall output to more than 500 horsepower.

Toyota worked with Scarbo Performance to design an extremely unique custom inboard rocker arm system to replace the factory rear suspension. This allowed the team to maintain the factory body lines while creating room for a wider wheel and tire combination capable of managing the increased horsepower. The GR Supra Heritage Edition wears custom 19×11-inch HRE P107SC five-spoke wheels shod with 305/30R19 Toyo Proxes R888R competition tires at the rear. A matching set of 19×10.5-inch HRE P107SC wheels with 295/30R19 Toyo Proxes tires fill the front wheel wells.

To close the gap between the tires and arches, the team used TEIN adjustable coil-overs and fitted massive Brembo six-piston monobloc calipers with 380mm two-piece rotors up front and four-piston monobloc calipers with 380mm rotors at the rear.

When the GR Supra Sport Top debuts at its first live in-person SEMA Show alongside the GR Supra Heritage Edition, attendees will finally get to see GR Supras inspired by the MKIV side by side. Fixed roof rigidity and simplicity or a removeable roof to take in the sun or the stars? This year, SEMA concept car fans don’t have to choose.

  • Toyota GR Supra Sport Top Concept

2021 Toyota GR Supra Sport Top Concept

Last year, Toyota remained committed to the automotive aftermarket and the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA), hosting its 2020 SEMA360 Showcase virtual presentation and unveiling its latest creations, including the GR Supra Sport Top. For 2021, Toyota is excited to “show the metal” and give the GR Supra Sport Top the live in-person SEMA Show debut it deserves.

Intended as a continuation of Toyota’s tribute to the much heralded and loved MKIV Supra of the 1990s, it celebrates the removable-roof Supra models of the past and is a fitting companion to the wildly popular GR Supra Heritage Edition that debuted at SEMA in 2019.

Both the GR Supra Sport Top and the GR Supra Heritage Edition will be on display in Toyota’s 2021 SEMA Show exhibit (Central Hall, Booth No. 24800). For the first time, SEMA attendees will be able to feast their eyes on both builds side by side and experience the ultimate Supra tribute.

“We are very excited to finally get a chance to show off both of these incredibly cool GR Supra builds at the SEMA Show,” said Lisa Materazzo, group vice president – Toyota Division Marketing. “The team did some spectacular customization and fabrication work to pay tribute to Supras that came before, and we’re finally going to show them together so SEMA fans can see them up close and personal.”

Marty Schwerter and the Toyota Motorsports Garage set out to conceptualize the GR Supra Sport Top Edition and create this open-air Supra tribute. It features many of the Heritage Edition’s custom visual cues and performance upgrades yet takes a fresh look at the retro-inspired build.

“Toyota really wanted to have a companion to the Heritage Edition. But, this was no easy build, and we put a lot of thought into cutting the roof and removing a significant part of the car’s structure,” Schwerter said. “It was way more complicated than we originally thought. Removing the top was extremely tough and required some innovative work to retain the GR Supra’s rigidity. I love how it came out, and I hope others love it, too.”

KC Mathieu, owner of KC’s Paint Shop in Fort Worth, Texas, led the roof removal work.

“The steel was a little harder to cut through than we expected,” said Mathieu. “We started with an air saw and got nowhere real fast.”

Though concerned that after 30 minutes they had only cut about an inch of steel, KC then switched gears and tried a different cutting tool. After some time, the metal of the roof really started to yield, and eventually the surgery would be a success.

The roof design features two composite panels 3D printed by Toyota Motor North America Research and Development in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The roof panels were contoured to the GR Supra’s body lines and the car retains the windshield header and the driver’s and passenger’s side outer roof body structure shapes. To maintain structural integrity, the team reinforced the roof’s outer body structures and added reinforcement underneath from the engine bay to the back of the tub.

With an opportunity to take a new look at some of the Heritage Edition’s custom upgrades, the team worked on making the hand-built rear diffuser and underbody airflow more efficient. They also reworked the exhaust and created a new custom setup featuring dual pipes in the center of the rear fascia. Of course, the iconic MKIV rear basket handle wing was also integrated into the decklid, while round taillights complete the MKIV rear treatment. KC’s Paint Shop did the final body work and applied numerous coats of BASF paint mixed to exactly match the OEM GR Supra color Absolute Zero White, creating a strikingly flawless finish. The GR Supra Sport Top Edition and GR Supra Heritage Edition share many of the same custom upgrades, but both are visually unique and fitting tributes to past Supra models.
