  • Volkswagen Shows Golf R 400 Concept Car

Volkswagen-Golf-R-400-Concept-Car-THUMBVolkswagen Golf R 400 Concept Car was revealed a few days ago via several design sketches. The brand has just released the first official pictures of the car as well as additional data. The concept was on display at Auto China show in Beijing. The 400 in the name of the concept stands for the horsepower it generates. The new Golf also features unique body and bumper modifications s well as flared wheel-arches that make it even more aggressive and sporty. It is based on the standard Golf R hatchback and therefore features 4MOTION four-wheel drive.

Golf R 400 generates up to 400 hp (295 kW) and adds extra 70 Nm of torque to the production hatchback, making it a total of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) available from 2,400 to 6,000 rpm. The increase of power is due to the modified version of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine (Type EA888). The unit is coupled to a six-speed DSG transmission, which helps the model accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 174 mph.

The optimized engine has a newly developed turbocharger with a higher maximum charge pressure and reinforced crankcase. A water-cooled exhaust gas feed to the turbocharger integrated in the cylinder head helps to reduce full-load fuel consumption, while variable valve control with dual camshaft adjustment enhances the economy and performance.

Golf R 400 concept weighs only 1,420 kg. Its body is 20 mm wider on each side, when compared to the production version. It also sports flared wheelarches that are reminiscent of those on the 1988 Rallye Golf G60. These arches are painted in ‘Silver Flake’ metallic, and contrast with the gloss black roof and carbon door mirror caps.

In addition, new sill extensions bridge the gap between the widened arches. They are filled with 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 235/35 R19 tyres. At the front, the bumper has been entirely redesigned. In addition, a carbon fibre splitter and aerodynamic ‘wing element’ help to push air towards the honeycomb mesh of the grille.

An ‘R’ badge is positioned on the gloss black radiator grille, and sits on a ‘Lemon Yellow’ background. A horizontal stripe across the grille continues into the bi-xenon headlights and is also Lemon Yellow.

At the rear, the bumper has been also redesigned and includes vents on each side. There are also four sporty tailpipes which have been replaced with two centrally mounted items. A black double spoiler with LED brake lights atop the tailgate finishes the look.

The interior of the concept Golf features motorsport shell seats with integrated head restraints and belt openings. The seats are upholstered in cross-quilted panels covered in Alcantara, and “carbon leathe”. The same approach is used for the two individual rear seats. A contrast stitching in Lemon Yellow can also be seen inside.

Unfortunately, there are no current plans for production of the Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept Car.

  • Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept Car [sketch]

Volkswagen has published several design sketches of the Golf R 400 Concept Car. The ultra-hot hatchback will make its official premiere at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show on April 19th. As you may suggest, it will boast extreme power and aggressive exterior.

The exterior of Golf R400 Concept comes with new front and rear bumpers, flared wheelarches, uprated wheels and tires. The interior is also reworked and includes motorsport shell seats with integral head restraints and belt openings.

The flared wheelarches are deliberately reminiscent of those on the 1988 Rallye Golf G60, and most of the concept is painted in ‘Silver Flake’ metallic, in contrast to the gloss black roof and carbon door mirror caps.

Lemon Yellow highlights on the outside include the horizontal stripe across the grille, which, like the chrome strip on the Golf R, continues into the bi-xenon headlights, while the interior stitching is also ‘Lemon Yellow’.

    The four-wheel drive, DSG-equipped Golf R 400 will accelerate 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and the top speed will be 280 km/h (174 mph).

No words about production, but Golf R 4000 will be definitely spectacular.

  • Dotz Shift Celebrates Golf’s 35th Anniversary With GTI Edition 35

Dotz-Shift-Volkswagen-Golf-Edition-35-THUMBWe have seen already couple of projects in the past two months by Dotz Shift and we were impressed. To keep the good speed the designers has released their third project, which comes to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the emblematic Volkswagen Golf.

As a standard, the GTI has been equipped with 235 horsepower (173 kW) and delivers a fueal economy rated at 8.1L/100km. Dotz Shift decided to give more power to the car in order to celebrate its 35 years of history making. Thus, they have adapted race catalytic converter, added Bastuck exhaust system and adjusted the engine via software.

The result is that this GTI has gained 100 horsepower more, resulting in a total of 335 (246 kW). Then the tuners equipped the car with H&R coilovers and track extension, which give the GTI particularly good grip.

In fact, Dotz Shift calls this project “racing-oriented Shift pinstripe red”. The reason for this is that the VW boasts red lacquered pinstripes in the groove of the outer rim edge as well as a red inlay and logo on the black center cap.

The wheels are also sports-inspired. The star pattern formed by seven slender, edgy double spokes contributes towards a lightweight and aggressive look, while the deep lip adds the racing emotion. Particularly, the dimension of the wheels at the front and the back of Edition 35 is 8.0×19”.

  • Volkswagen Golf GTE Plug-In Hybrid Revealed

Volkswagen-Golf-GTE-Plug-In-Hybrid-THUMBVolkswagen has released the first images of the brand new four-door Golf GTE Plug-In Hybrid vehicle, which was created with the aim to combine the benefits of electric mobility with the dynamics of a Golf GTI.

The new car will make its debut in Geneva, where also will be disclosed its detailed specifications. If you haven’t figured out what the letters GTE stand for, where here’s the hint: the GT is for “Gran Tourismo”, while the E stands for Electric.

Precisely, the car will utilize two engines – a 1.4-litre TSI direct-injection petrol engine that produces 150 hp (110 kW) and a 102 hp (75 kW) electric motor. Together both generate 204 hp (150 kW), 350 Nm (258 lbs ft) of torque and a theoretical range of around 580 miles. Volkswagen Golf GTE uses a six-speed DSG gearbox with a triple-clutch system.

Furthermore, thanks to the mentioned horsepower, the car achieves a 7.6 seconds time for the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. The fuel efficiency on a combined cycle is estimated at 188 mpg, while the CO2 emissions – at 35 g/km.

In terms of exterior, there is nothing that would surprise us here – in other words, the GTE is a typical Golf. However, it includes C-shaped LED daytime running lights on the front bumper similarly to the e-Golf and aerodynamic horizontal ‘fins’ like the GTI. The hybrid will be fitted with 18-inch ‘Serron’ alloy wheels as a standard.

The same blue highlights seen on the exterior can be found on the inside. For instance, there is a blue stitching of the steering wheel, gear lever gaiter and seats, and a blue stripe in the tartan pattern on the sports seats. The interior also sports 8-inch Discover Pro satellite navigation system with DAB radio and Bluetooth as a standard.
