Fiat is celebrating 3rd consecutive success for Fiorino, which is named “Best Light Van” in the 2014 Van Fleet World Honours. Fiorino’s versatility and capacity convinced the judges to give it maximum points as well as its low running costs.

Fiat Fiorino has a payload of up to 660kg and a load volume of up to 2.5 cubic metres (or 2.8 m3 with folded passenger seat). Thanks to its advanced MultiJet II turbo-diesel engines, the FIAT Fiorino returns up to 65.7 mpg UK (4.3 liters / 100 km)  on the combined cycle, while also benefiting its users with long service intervals and low repair costs.

For 2014, Fiat Fiorino customers also have the possibility of opting for the new Sportivo version, which builds on the high specification of the Tecnico model by adding alloy wheels, Sportivo side-stripes and an engine power upgrade to 95HP (70 kW) with no fuel economy or emissions penalties. • 2014 Fiat Panda Cross Adds More Rugged Looks

2014-Fiat-Panda-Cross-THUMB2014 Fiat Panda Cross is will be brand’s entry to make a world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 4th of March. The vehicle was built on the successful formula of the Panda 4X4 but will offer even more all-terrain capability.

The latter will be ensured by the introduction of a host of new features, better performance and improved ground clearance. Key new element is the standard ‘Torque-on-Demand’ transmission system, which uses Panda’s Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) and advanced Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems. Both, they operate engine’s torque delivery in difficult driving conditions.

Moreover, this system is fully automatic and requires zero maintenance. It is controlled by the new Terrain Control selector, which has three driving modes: Auto, that automatically distributes drive between the front and rear axles; Lock, where the 4WD serves for off-road utilization at speeds of up to 30mph, with distribution of torque controlled by braking slipping wheels; and Hill Descent, which is used for optimum handling of particularly steep hill descents or when driving down extremely bumpy laneways.

Adding to the new equipment are the oversized all-season 185/65R15 tyres, which were developed specifically to combine drivability and traction in low-traction situations. Furthermore, the suspension of the new Panda Cross has been optimized in order to provide more comfort, better handling, road-holding and safety. An independent MacPherson suspension is employed at the front while a torsion beam layout has been developed for the rear.

What is more, the ground clearance here got bigger. It is 16 cm for the MultiJet II version and 15 cm for the TwinAir Turbo version. The two engines will have as a standard a Start&Stop function. To go even further into details, the new 0.9 TwinAir Turbo engine produces 90 hp (66 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 145Nm (107 lb ft) of torque between 1,900rpm and 3,000rpm. Its figures are estimated at 57.6 mpg fuel consumption and 14g/km CO2 emissions, when the vehicle is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission.

The second powertrain – 1.3 MultiJet II turbo-diesel, will offer its driver 80 hp (59 kW) at 4,000rpm and 190Nm (140 lb ft) of torque at just 1,500 rpm. On the combined cycle this unit returns 60.1mpg and 125g/km CO2 emissions.

In terms of exterior design, the front end of the new Panda features new light clusters, new bumper and new fog lights integrated into front facia. New LED DRLs are mounted into the skid plate. The latter is finished in a satin titanium colour with perforations. At the sides one can see wheel arch extensions, side mouldings with the ‘Cross’ logo and new roof bars with a satin titanium finish. The rear end has been also refined and now sports a new bumper with under-body protection, new rear light cluster and a chrome tail pipe.

The interior of 2014 Panda Cross gets unique fabric/eco-leather upholstery and a new dashboard finish with a distinctive copper fascia. The standard equipment here includes a leather-trimmed steering wheel with remote controls, leather-trimmed gear knob, automatic climate control, Blue&Me connectivity, electric door mirrors, height-adjustable driver’s seat and Terrain Control selector. Available option is the City Brake Control, which recognizes the presence of other vehicles or obstacles in front of the car, and brakes automatically.

As you might have guessed already, it is because this edition is equipped with revolutionizing sound system. As a result the occupants will experience unmatched premium sound.

The exterior of the new model is painted with the refined two-tone grey/black livery – matt or glossy finish, and features red and satin chrome elements. The same style is found throughout the interior. Precisely, the coupe is decided in ‘total black’ and is wrapped with fabric and eco-leather black trim with red stitching.

The Beats Edition will be equipped with either the 1.6 MultiJet II turbo-diesel engine or the 1.4 T-Jet petrol one. Both of them deliver the 120 horsepower (88 kW). The first unit is marked by fuel economy, ideal for long journeys. Here the peak power is reached at 3,750 rpm, while the maximum torque is of 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) at 1,750 rpm, and the top speed – 189 km/h. With this engine, the Fiat can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds, and will have a combined fuel consumption of 4.6 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 120 g/km.

On the other hand, the 1.4 T-Jet has a maximum torque of 215 Nm (158 kW) from as low as 2,500 rpm and enables the 500L to top speed of 189 km/h, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds. Equipped with it, the model delivers a combined consumption of 6.9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 159 g/km.

Another highlight for the Beats Edition is that it can be equipped with Mopar parts for those willing to further personalize their vehicle. Among these accessories are the satin-finish moulding on the bonnet, the polycarbonate kick plate and the velvet mats with 500 logo. 2014 Fiat 500L Beats Editionspecial series goes on sale this week.

  • Fourth Generation Jeep Cherokee Debuts At Geneva This Year

Jeep-Cherokee-Limited-and-Trailhawk-shadowJeep-Cherokee-Limited-and-Trailhawk-mediumThe new Jeep Cherokee is upon us. Be on the look out for it if you happen to attend the 84th Geneva International Motor Show. The fourth generation of the mid-sized SUV is sophisticated, off-roadish, torquey and downright ugly/pretty (it’s a hate-it-or-love-it thing so we will refrain from judgement).Coming to Europe in three trim levels – Longtitude, Limited, and Traillhawk – the new Cherokee is supposed to boldly introduce a new face of the Jeep brand…. while remaining “true to the brand”. Every car manufacturer is quick to underline that no matter how outlandsih the final product turns out to be.

Well, there is some truth to that. One of the available engines (only with the Limited and Trailhawk editions) bares the legacy-laden Pentastar V6 label. Although there is quite a lot of power to go around – 272 hp and 315 Nm – the volume has been downsized from 3.6- to 3.2-liters. It’s not only some 30 percent more economical than before but is also more refined with less noise and vibrations.

But that’s all top-of-the-line talk. What about the people that can do without all the six cylnders and the foot-long gas bill? How about a 2.0-liter Multijet II turbo diesel engine mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox? Yes, 9-speed. But we’ll get to that later. Fiat’s Multijet (common rail) tech can shoot up fuel into the cylinders with a pressure value of up to 1,600 bar thus ensuring smoothness and frugality throughout the cycle. All the while, a variable geometry turbocharger and a double overhead camshaft controlling 16 valves in total get the Cherokee’s power rated at 170 hp and 350 Nm (the latter peaking at just 1,500 rpm).

Then there’s the transmission. Are they going for a world record here? Not only 9-speeds but also 40 individual automatic shift maps corresponding to different conditions. The involved software has to consider, among other things, variables such as the engine torque gradients, kick-down events, longitudinal and lateral acceleration and grade changes just so that you and I be always on the right gear.

There is a 140 hp version of the same diesel engine available (mated to a six-speed manual) and another gasoline 2.4-liter engine with 177 hp and 229 Nm at its disposal. The latter of the two, however, will be only available in Russia and the Middle East.

After choosing the right power plant for you, you’ll have to spend another month deciding which 4×4 system to go with. There’s the Jeep Active Drive I (Longitude and Limited models) – a single power transfer unit that is still fully automatic and works its magic in the background. It features a fully-variable wet clutch, housed in the rear drive module, which works in unison with the Cherokee’s ESC system for optimum traction on almost any surface. The Jeep Active Drive II is a more advanced version of the aforementioned (Limited only). It has a two-speed power transfer unit with torque management and a low-range mode (4-Low). It Locks the front and rear drive shafts for low speed power or towing. Essentially, the greater the gear reduction, the better the climbing capabilities of the vehicle. Finally there’s the standard on all Trailhawk Jeep Active Drive Lock package. It includes the Active Drive II system plus a locking differential. As such, the new Cherokee becomes as off-road capable as it will ever be.

On a side note, all 4×4 options feature a standard user-operated Selec-Terrain traction control system that controls way too many of the Cherokee’s systems: drivetrain control module, electronic brake controller, ESC, transmission controller, powertrain controller and Selec-Speed Control (Hill-ascent and Hill-descent Control). Also, all are not necessarily 4×4 all the time. They use a rear-axle disconnect module that reduces energy loss when AWD is not required.

Finally, it needs to be mentioned that the new Cherokee’s structure implements a high-resistance steel body (65%). Combine that rigid structure with 70+ safety features and you’ve got yourself a very safe environment for both everyday situations and extreme circumstances.

    Good job, Jeep!
