  • Fiat Abarth 500e

The New Abarth 500e is a real Abarth and even more Abarth than ever, meaning that it offers an irreverent, playful, yet bold style, and a thrilling driving experience with the same amount of fun! Combining performance, electric power, style and a new powerful sound, the new Scorpion turns advanced technology into adrenaline, and sustainability into performance. Thanks to its electric architecture, in fact, along with improved weight distribution, better torque, and a wider wheelbase, the New Abarth 500e is faster and more exciting in both urban and suburban driving, ensuring the best performance.

The New Abarth 500e is the most responsive and exciting Abarth 500 ever in city driving, performing better than an Abarth 695 in responsiveness. In fact, it is 1 second faster in the urban pickup, which means 50% faster acceleration from 12 to 25mph than its petrol-powered counterpart. The New Abarth 500e is also faster outside of city driving, for example on hairpin bends, where from 25 to 37mph it can reach the target speed in just 1.5 seconds—much faster than its petrol version, which lags behind by 15 metres, reaching 37mph a second later.

Finally, on the open road, the full electric New Abarth 500e performs overtaking manoeuvres faster than its petrol version, reaching a speed of 62mph (starting from 37mph) when its petrol counterpart is still driving at 56mph, with a difference of approximately 1 second. To summarize, on ‘Misto Alfa’ Balocco’s track the New Abarth 500e beats the 695 by over a second.

Furthermore, the more responsive electric motor, a longer wheelbase, improved support due to widened track widths, and the better balance between the axles offer great handling and driving dynamics, providing the New Abarth 500e with a quicker response, better corner entry, and a higher cornering and exit speed.

The New Abarth 500e is equipped with a powerful 42 kWh battery coupled with a powerful e-motor, resulting in 113.7kW/155hp and combining the performance of the Scorpion with the innovation of electric mobility. In fact, it can reach 62mph from zero before you even realize it, in just seven seconds. It boasts of best-in-class acceleration, and, in the meantime, ensures zero emissions.

In the end, the New Abarth 500e is “exciting and fast” precisely in those conditions where you can really have fun. And that’s how the brand has succeeded in uniting its enthusiasts with people who have never raced before. In fact, New Abarth 500e is aiming to enlarge the Abarth target market while still staying true to its roots and DNA.

Driving Modes: Turismo, Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track

Three exclusive driving modes are available, which focus on performance – Turismo, Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track – giving customers total freedom to fully enhance the sporty set-up and unleash the power of their Abarth in every challenge on the road.

    • The Turismo mode allows for smoother acceleration and lower power (max power 100kW instead of 113kW, torque 220Nm instead of 235Nm) for an efficient yet exciting driving experience.
    • The Scorpion Street mode offers top performance while maximizing the regenerative braking.
    • Plus, on Turismo or Scorpion Street Mode – thanks to the one-pedal driving feature – all you need is one pedal to experience the ultimate performance. The car decelerates every time you lift your foot and recovers kinetic energy, which then gets converted into electricity to recharge the battery. A faster and even sportier driving experience!
    • Finally, the Scorpion Track mode is designed for those who are looking for top performance.

    Recharging speed

To minimize its charging time, the New Abarth 500e is equipped with the 85-kW fast-charging system to charge the car’s battery very quickly and guarantee never-ending fun. For example, all it takes is less than five minutes to build up a sufficient energy reserve for daily mileage requirements (around 25 miles), which is less than the time it takes to choose your next destination. When in a hurry, the fast charge reaches 80% of the range in only 35 minutes.

To quickly and easy charge the car comfortably at home, it is possible to install an easyWallbox, a “Plug&Play” solution which is simply fixed to the wall near a power socket. Thanks to a Bluetooth connection and the app “MyEasyWallbox” you can set up your easyWallbox and monitor its operating parameters.

Abarth keeps roaring: the immersive sound experience of the New Abarth 500e

For Abarth, sound has always been important. Beyond a simple technical feature, it has become a creative tool to express a distinctive and playful style. Furthermore, Abarth sound has always been synonymous with hardcore fun and excitement – a key and distinctive factor specifically designed to offer all the deep emotions that every Abarthist seeks when driving an Abarth. In addition to its high performance and bold style, the New Abarth 500e is the only small car which provides an immersive sound experience for those who want to drive electric without giving up on the famous and unmistakable Abarth roar, which has accompanied generations of passionate drivers and always been synonymous with power and performance.

In line with this philosophy, each time the car is turned on or off, the Key On-Off system reproduces a guitar inside the cabin – a sound that immediately gives users those sensations that can be experienced on board any Abarth. Even the AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System) gets a specific “jingle”, transforming a cold homologation and normative constraint into a sound recognizable by Scorpion fans. It is a “sound” that sets the New Abarth 500e apart from other electric cars. Plus, the first time you exceed 12mph, a “strumming guitar” reflects the transgressive and unconventional soul which is inherent in the genre and in the Scorpion‘s cars.

Finally, the New Abarth 500e is the first and only city car that can be equipped with the Sound Generator, for those who don’t want to give up on Abarth’s signature – the unmistakable Abarth “roar”. The Sound Generator accompanies the engine performance, faithfully reproducing the sound of an Abarth petrol engine. Designed to offer all the emotions that every Abarthist seeks when driving an Abarth, perfectly combining performance and sound, this innovative sound system gives a true Abarth driving experience.

The Sound Generator is offered as an alternative to the standard sound experience and comes with an AVAS which recalls the sound of a petrol engine – different from the standardized rustle with the guitar strum. Furthermore, when the New Abarth 500e is equipped with the Sound Generator, the key on-off system still reproduces a guitar inside the cabin each time the car is turned on or off. The Sound Generator can be turned on/off at the customer’s pleasure when the car is stationary.

The New Abarth 500e: new elements for a distinctive and bold sporty style

New design elements give the New Abarth 500e a unique yet bold style, taking inspiration from the past but also adding an even greater thrill to the whole driving experience. To give a clear picture of the new challenges and ambitions the brand is facing, Abarth has played with its logo, while staying true to the claim: “New era, same roots, same DNA.” The new modernized and electrified Scorpion signature logo makes its debut on the New Abarth 500e and projects the brand into a new era. And it’s not “just a signature”; it’s the union of performance and innovation, fun and sustainability. It is placed higher up and, together with the headlights and the grille, gives the car a look that tells you that nuts-and-bolts mean business. High-quality leather with Alcantara inserts and the Scorpion logo embellish the three-spoke sporty steering wheel which takes inspiration from the racing world to give customers the thrills of the race at first touch. Additionally, the premium door panels and central tunnel armrest present a sporty double stitching.

The New Abarth 500e Scorpionissima also comes with a closed central tunnel, heated front seats and windshield, height adjustable driver seat, and 50/50 split folding rear seats. The contrast between the bright Acid Green colour of the exterior and the dark interiors enhances its distinctive and sporty style while the Poison Blue body paint further emphasizes the bold style of the New Abarth 500e.

All connected services can be also managed offboard through the dedicated Fiat mobile app.

Performance creators: the new Abarth has been co-created with its community

The Scorpion community has always been one of the brand’s cornerstones. It is a growing community with more than 160,000 Abarthists across the world. They show their affection for the brand, its history, and its founder with great pride, and get to experience the values of Style and Performance. It is like a big family which participates in every Abarth event and closely follows the creation of its future models. This led to the decision of inviting fans to not just drive down Abarth’s road, but also to help the brand draw the map. Abarth directly asked them for an opinion on what its future vehicles should be like.

The initiative, called “Performance creators” was a genuine success, with hundreds of thousands of community members having their say on the new sound and colours, and more calls to action to follow.

It is a way to get the entire Abarth community involved as the brand moves forward and a way to be exclusive, yet also inclusive, and, simultaneously, have even more fun.

Number 5: Darth Vader’s Viper ACR and Stormtrooper’s Challenger and Charger

Darth Vader’s Viper ACR and Stormtrooper’s Challenger and Charger Ad

We put the trio on fifth position, because of the little difference they have in comparison to the original cars. These three were seen rolling on the streets of Los Angeles this weekend, and probably many of you living there had the chance of meeting them. The pair of First Order Stormtrooper-themed white 707-horsepower Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat traveled in the company of the intimidating Kylo Ren-inspired wrapped black Dodge Viper ACR.

Powered by 8.4-liter V10 engine, the beautiful black Dodge Viper ACR produces 645 horsepower (474 kW) and 813 Nm (600 lb-ft) of torque. It transmits all this power onto the road via the Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission. The car also shows-off with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, 19-inch alloys and exclusive Kumho Ecsta V720 high-performance tires. Since Darth Vader drives this car, we are sure that he has chosen to add the Extreme Aero package, making sure that he will have the highest aerodynamic downforce of any production car.

Number 4: Blood Type Racing Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec

Blood Type Racing Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec

Blood Type Racing has revealed this Veloster Turbo R-Spec at the SEMA show in November this year. It seems that the Veloster has switched to the dark side just in time for the next Star Wars series. It definitely looks like a vehicle that the Sith Lord could drive. It is built with an abundant amount of carbon fiber and dressed in Carbon Black exterior paint scheme, highlighted with a red racing stripe running from the front splitter up onto the hood.

In addition, there is also a carbon fiber wide-body kit that is accompanied by front-mounted aero canards, front splitter and a rear deck spoiler. Red accents on the custom SSR three-piece wheels, along with red projector “demon eye” headlamps are making this car look really devilish. The force that awakes this car is the 1.6-liter “Gamma” four-cylinder engine, which achieves more than 500 horsepower due to ECU tuning!

On third position is Fiat’s Stormtrooper themed 500e, which has debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November and has caused great furor. Inspired by the First Order Legion, the exterior livery of this Fiat has unique two-tone black and white custom painting and wrapping, making it look like a helmet.

The interior of the car was decorated also in the contrasting combination of black and white. The seats got Alcantara treatment, while the dash was painted in white and enriched by the “Star Wars” logo. The First Order insignia can be also spotted on the two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel. By the way, this 500e should be attributed to the work of the specialists at Garage Italia Customs.

    Number 2: Vilner BMW Stormtrooper

    Vilner BMW Stormtrooper with Stormtroopers

Vilner’s unique BMW M6- based project, called Stormtrooper, has been revealed one year ahead of the premiere of the new Star Wars episode. With its sparkling white color and power hidden in its forms, the car is reminiscent of the Imperial Army troops of Darth Vader. This car is one-of-a-kind, features exclusive detailing and powerful presence.

Almost everything in this cabriolet has been changed, starting from the front and rear bonnets, bumpers, rear fenders, and almost all components inside. Running on 20-inch black wheels, this cabrio carries and antique Nappa leather and brown Alcantara interior and a lot of exclusive detailing on the outside. For instance, take a look at the decorative elements of the exterior. The details about this amazing project are featured in the link below. It seems that this car had to be on first position, isn’t it?

Number 1: Hot Wheels Darth Vader Car

Hot Wheels Darth Vader Car Exterior

The first place is reserved for the Ultimate Darth Vader car! It just couldn’t be the other way around! We have shown you a video yesterday of Jay Leno’s experience with it, but if you haven’t watched it yet, you can do this in the link below.

Mattel Hot Wheels Darth Vader Car is a result of the collaboration between the two franchises, which has been also released in a 1:64 toy variant. This real-size car is powered by an LS3 V8 engine, which generates 526 horsepower (387 kW) and rides on custom red line tires. It also produces heavy breathing sounds associated with the Sith Lord. The powerful engine drives the rear wheels and also has a backlit, side-exit exhaust system. Furthermore, the “nose” of this unique car is made of carbon fiber, and its design is made in that way so it resembles Darth Vader’s mask. The wheels have been specifically designed for this car as are the unique triple headlights and the split windshield. And this is definitely a car worth of first position, because of all the work put on it.

  • The Force Awakens with First Ever Fiat 500e Stormtrooper

Fiat 500e stormtrooper front viewWe are impatiently waiting for the premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on 18th of December. And since there are a lot of fans among us, we decided to show you a very special Fiat 500e, which has taken the form of a stormtrooper. Unlike Vilner’s tuning (see in the link below) of the BMW M6, this one actually mimics the mask of the famous character.

Fiat 500e stormtrooper along with the DVF Fiat 500X debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show and cause great furor. Call it a perfect timing, but this car actually comes ahead of the premiere of the iconic series. So, let’s check it out in details.

    Fiat 500e stormtrooper

Inspired by the First Order Legion, the exterior livery of the Fiat 500e stormtrooper features two-tone black and white custom painting. To make it look like a helmet, the windshield and the side windows were specifically wrapped. Inside, everything is decorated in black and white, too.

The seats got Alcantara treatment, while the dash was painted in white and enriched by the “Star Wars” logo. The detailing has been always important for Fiat, hence this one received white/black lacquer treatment for the tiny styling components.  And have you spotted the First Order insignia on the two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel? The last thing you should know about this impressive mini is that it was created by the specialists at Garage Italia Customs.

    DVF Fiat 500X

    DVF Fiat 500X front view

At the show, the company also displayed a custom-wrapped DVF Fiat 500X. DVF are initials who stand for the name of Diane von Furstenberg. As an inimitable, self-made fashion icon, business woman and mentor, she called upon viewers of E!’s “House of DVF” to share their stories of “How I Became the Woman I Wanted to Be.” One winner drove away with a custom Fiat 500X wrapped in a DVF Heritage print.

  • Should You Consider an Electric Vehicle For Your Next Purchase

Electric vehicles have long been on the periphery as a growing technology, and as a sustainable choice for our environment. Yet the lack of knowledge about how they work and function has left possible buyers wary of researching further, when an electric vehicle may mean incredible savings. For the 2015 year, it is obvious that more and more of the largest automobile manufacturers are engineering great electric vehicles that you should totally keep on your radar if you are in the market for a new vehicle.

One of the best selling points for an electric vehicle is the inevitable amount of money you will save in gas fees. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has done the research, and predicted that on average, an electric car costs $3.74 worth of electricity to run for 100 miles. In comparison, a conventional car will cost around $13.36. Though these numbers will vary by your individual needs, the difference of $9.62 which could add up to some serious savings over the course of your ownership.

You could look at that previous factoid and think to yourself, “That’s great, but electric cars cost more, so the savings are nullified.” Not so fast! Electric cars are increasingly becoming more and more affordable, and competitive with their conventional sedan counterparts, so the savings stay. On top of that, the federal government offers a tax credit of up to $7,500, in an effort to encourage drivers to drive electric cars and reduce their emissions. Furthermore, there are additional incentives offered at a local level. With the potential for massive savings, an electric car is not any more expensive than a conventional sedan.

Electric cars also need less maintenance than their fuel-filled counterparts do. Electric vehicles have ten-times fewer moving parts, so essentially they are a much more simple machine. There is no transmission, engine, valves, spark plugs, tailpipe, fuel tank, starter, distributor, catalytic converter, muffler or clutch – so there is less that can possibly go wrong.

Regardless of the potential for incredible financial savings, an electric car is also a responsible choice. The choices you make now will affect your children and grand children, and if you want to begin contributing towards a better environment for them, consider an electric vehicle as your chosen vehicle. Not only will it offer incredible savings over the years that you drive it, it is also an environmentally responsible choice.

  • Fiat intros new Fiat 500 models in North America

    2015-Fiat-500L_thumb2015-Fiat-500L_651

The Fiat brand has long been associated with Italy but since year 2014 the acclaimed and popular car brand has some American blood in its veins. Of course we are talking about the Fiat and Chrysler merger earlier this year when the deal gave Fiat access to the North American market while providing Chrysler with knowledge how to build small and fuel-efficient cars. Thanks to the deal now Fiat introduces new Fiat 500 models in North America.

The Fiat 500 is one of the many legendary cars of Fiat. Introduced in 1957 the first model is often called “the first city car”. Cheap and easy to maintain, the Fiat 500 was in production until 1975 and more than 3 million Fiat 500 cars were sold back in the day. In 2007, exactly 50 years after the launch of the first Fiat 500, the popular car maker introduced an improved and modernized version of the Fiat 500 that is still in production in Europe and Mexico.

    2015-Fiat-Abarth_651

Now customers in the United States will be able to drive the new high-performance 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Abarth Cabrio as well as take advantage of the all-electric Fiat 500e and the Fiat 500L, which is an all-new five-passenger model that expands the Fiat brand into the growing B-segment.

Let’s take a look at the specs of the new cars. The 2015 Fiat Abarth comes with two transmissions – one 5-speed manual and one 6-speed automatic and a 1.4-liter SOHC 16-valve turbocharged multiair inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 119 kW (162 HP) of power at 5,500 rpm and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque at 2,500-4,000 rpm (with 5-speed manual transmission). The same engine delivers 117 kW (159 HP) of power at 5,500 rpm and 183 lb-ft (248 Nm) of torque at 2,400-4,000 rpm with the six-speed automatic transmission. The estimated fuel economy is 28/34/31 US mpg (8.4/6.9/7.6 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) with five-speed manual and 24/32/27 US mpg (9.8/7.4/8.7 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) with six-speed manual. The tech specs of the Fiat Abarth Cabrio are the same except that the car does not offer a six-speed automatic transmission and you will have to do with the 5-speed one only.

We do not have information on the 2015 Fiat 500L (if there’s any at all) so we will describe the 2014 Fiat 500L specs – the car is equipped with a 1.4-liter SOHC 16-valve turbocharged multiair inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 119 kW (162 HP) of power at 5,500 rpm and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque at 2,500-4,000 rpm. The car reaches 25/33/28 US mpg (9.4/7.1/8.4 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) fuel economy with the offered six-speed manual transmission and 24/33/27 US mpg (9.8/7.1/8.7 liters per 100 km) (city/highway/combined) of fuel economy with the Euro Twin Clutch six-speed transmission. There’s no information on the Fiat 500e vehicle.

There’s no word on the pricing or the availability dates of the new models as of now.

2013-Fiat-500e-THUMB2013 Fiat 500e which was revealed in the beginning of December last year has been rated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in terms of highway-cycle performance which is 108 MPGe. This means that this number makes the Fiat unsurpassed by any electric vehicle on the U.S. market.

As we all are familiar, the MPGe is the EPA-devised measure for determining how many miles an EV can travel on a quantity of battery-generated electricity that has same energy has as a gallon of gasoline. In addition, when the 500e was fully charged the Fiat 500e is ccapable of travellingf about 87 miles.

Furthermore, the numbers for the city/highway rating and the city-cycle rating are 116 MPGe and 122-MPGe respectively. This means that the Fiat 500e is not only environmentally friendly and has design proposition like no other, while delivering unsurpassed MPGe and class-leading range.

The EPA testing also determined that car’s energy-consumption is just 29 kilowatt hours (kWh) per 100 miles. Additionally, the EV scored 10 out of 10 on two EPA scales that reward vehicles for low tailpipe emissions.

These good results are a logical consequence of the new battery-electric powertrain of the 500e. In particular, it generates 111 horsepower (83 kW) and recharges in less than 4 hours thanks to its Level 2 (240 volt) on-board charging module (OBCM).

Moreover, its distinctive exterior enhancements contribute to a 13 percent improvement in aerodynamics, compared with the already fashionable Fiat 500 Lounge. The new 2013 Fiat 500e will be available in dealerships in the second-quarter 2013.
