  • Donkervoort Celebrates Mille Miglia with D8 GTO 1000 Miglia Edition

Donkervoort D8 GTO 1000 Miglia Edition Side ViewDonkervoort D8 GTO 1000 Miglia Edition was created to celebrate a special event. For the first time in its 37-year history, the company was represented in the famous Mille Miglia rally. This is exactly the reason why this D8 GTO special edition was born. Dubbed 1000 Miglia Edition, the car is truly unique and will be produced in only 25 examples.

Of course, there will be a special certificate stating this. Each car will be identified by specially designed logos and badges inside and out, giving a specific serial number and showing its authenticity.

Only 25 examples will be built.

But what is the purpose of this D8 GTO 1000 Miglia Edition? There is no need to ask such a question, since the car carries the GTO designation. Therefore it stands for maximum utilization of the GTO for touring purposes.

What is more, the Dutch-made car was built with the goal to improve the ease-of-use and the total comfort, thus ensuring the maximum enjoyment of driving the GTO on European roads. This also signifies that the vehicle is actually a true touring version. And it makes a pretty good contrast to its more circuit-oriented predecessors – D8 GTO Performance and the Bilster Berg Edition.

    Engine

Under the hood of Donkervoort D8 GTO 1000 Miglia Edition there is Audi’s 2.5L R5 TFSI engine, which produces around 310 horsepower (278 kW). This gives the car a slightly milder nature, doesn’t it?

    Exterior

The total weight of the vehicle is 760 kg. The low weight is due to a reduction in the use of carbon fibre. In exchange, the driver will get a slightly more comfort on the road. In addition, there is a change in the driving height, which was increased, because of the aim to build a car for street use. This was achieved via adjustable comfort shock absorbers.

    Interior

Inside, the dashboard was classically designed. In other words, one sees a dash which includes the conventional dials. However, they have some extra facilities like mobile-phone use and navigation that have been integrated in the cockpit.

    Price

Donkervoort D8 GTO 1000 Miglia Edition has a starting price of €115,000.

  • Donkervoort Releases Nearly Full-Carbon D8 GTO Edition

You have probably never heard about the Dutch company Donkervoort. Well, you aren’t alone in this. The new automaker is obviously trying to take the position of Wiesmann, since the first car it has produced looks much like one of the liquidated company. Precisely, the model is called D8 GTO Bare Naked Carbon Edition and is the very first carbon infused model of Donkervoort.

The vehicle is entirely fitted with visible carbon fibre with a special technique that allows the material to be exposed to view. This not only highlights the extremely fast personality of the D8 GTO but also reveals some of its specific and charismatic features.

Furthermore, the lightweight carbon fibre components are combined with Audi’s 2.5L R5 TFSI engine, which produces nearly 395 horsepower (290 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. This allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.0 seconds on its way to a top speed of 255 km/h.

To me, the most interesting thing about this car is that it has been covered with visible carbon from nose to diffuser, and is also featured throughout the interior. We can see it on elements such as the seats, door panels, window frame, dashboard and door sills.

Believe it or not, even the ignition cylinder housing, belt-and-roll bar trim and headlight housings are made of this material. Next, the painting process is also unique because it involves UV-coating directly applied every single carbon fibre component by hand.

To be more precise, almost 90% of the bodywork was made of carbon components. However, this does not satisfy the professionals of the Donkervoort, because the ultimate goal is to make a full-carbon D8 GTO. With the Bare Naked Carbon Edition this seems fairly possible.

  • Donkervoort D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition with a Recognizable Design

Donkervoort D8 GTO - Front view

I tend to like what Donkervoort usually comes up with but this time it was rather disappointing. The Dutch automaker has finally managed to craft out something (yes, I call it something because it is much easier this way rather than writing down the whole name of the new automobile, which I guess I will have to mention at some point) that sways between being too extravagant and being too… ugly. (Perhaps, if the cabin was moved a bit forward, it would make a huge difference it terms of the vehicle’s bodylook.)

Named after the Bilster Berg track in Germany, the Donkervoort D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition knows how to stand out from the crowd: firstly by its name, and secondly by its not-so-pleasing appearance. The base model takes advantage of Audi’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine (from the RS3 and TT RS), that propels 380 HP.

Featuring a uniquely designed carbon fiber nose (which is probably the only thing that I like about it), this GTO arrives with new badges and a reworked roll cage which brings a higher level of safety. The car is fitted with limited series production, semi-slick tires which are the result of the collaborative work between Donkervoort and Hankook tyre manufacturer.

The D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition is marked by a special emblem for immediate recognition and also has a dashboard which is adorned with a type plate with the number and name of the car’s owner.

In attempts to make the Bilster Berg Edition more tempting, the car-maker will built it in a limited series of just 14 cars. This is a number that will represent the highly eventful and successful year for Donkervoort.

  • Sneak Preview of 2015 Donkervoort D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition

2014 has been one very remarkable and successful year for Donkervoort. Pretty much since the start of the year, Donkervoort GTOs have managed to win the automaker some memorable moments. For instance, the D8 GTO was part of the latest racing game from the well-known Forza Motorsport series for Microsoft Xbox.

With the opening of the new branch in Germany, Donkervoort scored yet another great achievement. The exclusive location of the branch turned out to be a huge plus as it offered the opportunity for further auto tests at the Bilster Berg circuit in 2014. Eventually, the D8 GTO “clocked the fastest lap times and on more than one occasion left all the other ‘Supercar’ competitors in its dust.”

In order to celebrate all of these accomplishments, Donkervoort is revealing a special edition of this D8 GTO dubbed the Donkervoort GTO Bilster Berg Edition. Yet, it is not exactly revealing as we can only see a teaser image that is barely enough for the craving souls of Donkervoort fans. All that can be noticed from the shadowy sneak preview is the possibility for a unique front fascia with a redesigned nose. The car will be produced in a limited series of just 14 units. The number is not accidental for it signifies the victorious year.

The D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition is going into production in 2015. Stay tuned for more information.

  • Donkervoort GTO: 340HP, 450 Nm and 750kg

Donkervoort Automobielen in Lelystad and Audi Quattro GmbH announce the next generation of open sports cars: the Donkervoort GTO. The project took two and a half years of development, but it worth it.

GTO is powered by a five-cylinder 340PS and 450Nm 2.5 liter TFSI Audi motor. The weight of the open sports car is around 750kg, so the power-to-weight will be amazing. Compared to the old D8 270RS, the new GTO is about 35 cm longer and 15 cm wider. The GTO is therefore a brand-new designed car. Only sharing 5% of the parts with the D8 270RS and about 30% with the much more recent GT. A milestone in the 34-year history of Donkervoort.

“This weight savings is obtained by redesigning several accessory parts of the motor together with the Audi technicians. For example, amongst others a new intake manifold was developed. Because the intake follows a more favourable route through the motor area it is not only lighter, but has a favourable effect on the achievements of the motor as well. The dashboard in this design of the GTO is equipped with a special race module switch, which can increase the capacity from 340 to 400 HP at once. Connected to this is another Donkervoort novelty: the first car from Lelystad that has ‘traction control’ on board. Only for when it is raining of course.”, commented Joop Donkervoort.

The production of the Donkervoort GTO starts in 2012, whereby it is expected that the first specially designed units will be delivered in the summer. The price of the new GTO is between € 100 000 and € 150 000 excluding taxes.
