  • Wrangler, Avenger and Grand Caravan production is being prolonged for a couple of years.

As stated in the recent The Detroit News report, Chrysler has extended the production lives of Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Avenger and Dodge Caravan, which goes slightly out of sync with what was announced earlier in Chrysler’s product plan.

Quoting reliable sources, the newspapers says the Wrangler will continue through 2018 the way it is now, the Grand Caravan got a two-year extension up to 2017 and the current Avenger is likely to last through 2015, which means we’ll have an opportunity to get this sedan a year longer then expected previously.

Gualberto Ranieri, Crysler spokesman, rejected to give any comments on this statement, though.

Assuming that everything afore-mentioned is an absolute truth, we might think that the automaker along with Fiat S.p.A., its corporate parent, are doing their best to preserve cash in the teeth of European financial pressure and the on-going purchase of the rest of Chrysler share by Fiat.

Avenger was said to end up later this year or at the beginning of 2014. The main cause of such a rush was Chrysler’s intention to speed up the production of its successor, the next generation of sedan, Chrysler 200. The last one, as it was announced by chief executive officer Sergio Marchionne, will be shown in a 6-months term, allegedly in January of the upcoming year. Since then, the Sterling Heights plant will be forced to produce both Avenger and redesigned Chrysler 200.

Marchionne’s tactics mainly consists in cutting down on the production of resembling vehicles which permanently compete with each other in showrooms. From now on one of the biggest American automobile manufacturers will only launch one minivan production, for example, instead of having a couple of them at a time. Chrysler Group LLC is currently getting prepared for its future minivan production program. The name of the one to survive remains unrevealed, despite being an actively discussed thing during the last year.

Popular Jeep Wrangler will experience scheduled well in advance makeover in 2016, providing the Toledo plant with a time to raise its productive capacity. The new Wrangler will get a new diesel engine, which would be an alternative option for those who prefer diesel over gas. The sad news is that we aren’t going to meet a pickup version of wrangler unless the company finds some additional productive capacity. Apparently, we’ll have to postpone browsing through autoclassifieds in search of new Wranglers till the things go better.

  • CFC Gives Dodge Viper And BMW 7 Series A Glitter Stance

CFC-Dodge-Viper-THUMbThe wrapping specialists at CFC CarFilmComponents have made two exceptional tunings on a Dodge Viper and a BMW F01 7 Series. They have decided to give a more contemporary look than ever to these two vehicles.

The auto-tuning scene has been dominated the past few years by chromium mostly in terms of rims, the mirror-look. Now, the trend is extending to the surface of the car and the wrapping proffessionals from the German company are proving that. They have given a „glitter“ to both of the automobiles.

The first one – BMW F01 7 Series received a special chromium silver wrap of the 900 series. The BMW was also fitted with the CFC car glass foil in the“platinum style of the X-tra series. The latter has a special characteristic – a metal coating for a high level of heat-repellence.

The next car under the hands of the tuners was the Dodge Viper. In this case it was given a very special wrapping concept for a perfect show effect. This V10 Dodge Rooadster was also fitted with a chromium-silver full wrap of the 900 series. However, it was additionally personalized with an interesting colour mix of black over yellow up until silver.

In addition, the part of the long engine hood was fitted with the CFC design foil in carbon black from the Exterior Style Premium Series for a contrasting effect. Eventually, the car was rounded through the anthracite style car glass wrap of the X-tra series for the glassing.

The tuning of the Viper did not end here. CFC gave it a set of new Schmidt CC-line light alloy rims in size of 19-inchs next to the new KW chassis frame. What is more, there is also a special FOX exhaust system that in terms of sound can effortlessly match the Clarion HiFi system installed by Renato Rivic.

  • Attention George Jetson, Your Car is Ready

Not long ago the coolest automobiles were built in America and a good example was the Chrysler turbine. It is probably not entirely coincidental that Hanna-Barbera’s seminal animated TV show, the Jetsons, aired from 1962 to 1963 and the Chrysler Turbine premiered in 1963. True, the Jetson’s animated car flew but having a jet-like turbine in a ground based car seemed like a step in that direction.

From the viewpoint of engineers, the turbine engine’s smoothness and durability seemed to be a better alternative to the standard piston engine. It had few moving parts compared to piston engines, just a bunch of fan blades on a spinning shaft with one spark plug and no cooling system. It was a car manufacturers dream.

Chrysler built a few ordinary-looking prototype turbine cars in the ’50s, but for the pilot-program cars (1960s) an all-new, futuristic body was developed. The bodies were hand-built by the Italian company Carrozzeria Ghia and were shipped to Detroit for installation of the Chrysler-built turbine engine.

Chrysler built a total of 55 turbine cars between and 50 of these were made available for testing by 203 American families. Each family kept the car for three months and, as part of the deal, they recorded impressions and details in logbooks. The service guys at Earnhardt Dodge, told us that Chrysler actually had a elite team of mechanics on call who would fly out and fix the cars right away if anything went wrong.

Unfortunately, Chrysler’s Jetson-like turbine car never went into production.  The high cost was one reason. Back in the early 60s you could buy a perfectly fine, reliable V8-powered car for some $5000 or this “jet-engine” car that would have cost around $16,000. Big difference in price! They also had about the same performance; the turbine car was rated at 130 hp about the same as a Chrysler’s 318-cubic-inch V8. Gas mileage was the same on the highway, both would get some 19mpg. The major difference seemed to be mainlyprice.
