Cadillac CTS facelift MY2017Cadillac releases CTS and ATS facelifts

Cadillac ATS and CTS are currently in production for the new 2017 model year, offering some key refinements that need to be addressed. The new trim levels highlight models’ class-leading muscular stance and driving dynamics more than ever before.

By the way, Cadillac CTS Sedan is in its third generation already and has received some important accolades. It has been named by Car and Driver “10 Best” for three years in a row now, while Motor Trend said that in 2014 it is the “Car of the Year” giving it the respectful award. As for the ATS product line, we should say that it is brand’s most compact and sporty entry! It won both the Esquire Car of the Year and the North American Car of the Year award back in 2013.

To sum up, the refinements that Cadillac makes for 2017 model year are not big, but they are most certainly satisfying, bringing more convenience and style to the future owners.

  • Cadillac ATS, CTS and Escalade Get New 3.6-liter V6 Engine

2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe Cadillac ATS, CTS and Escalade are going to get as a standard additional dynamic driving performance to its range of features. At the moment is the start of the 2016 model year production and this means more benefits for these Cadillac models in terms of fuel-saving technologies. Precisely, they include Active Fuel Management and Automatic Stop/Start technologies and 8-speed transmission. They not only lift the fuel economy ratings, but also minimize the CO2 emissions, something regarded very important nowadays.

    3.6-liter V6 Engine

    2016 Cadillac CTS Sedan

This is Cadillac’s absolutely new six-cylinder engine. Thanks to its Active Fuel Management or cylinder deactivation, it can switch from six-cylinder to four-cylinder operation. Meanwhile it still maintains excellent performance. The unit will be offered for the engine range of the aforementioned models.

Furthermore, the V8 in the luxury SUV will shift to four-cylinder operation and so will do the high performance CTS-V sedan.

The ATS and the CTS can be also equipped with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. For the 2016 model year, this engine will also get the Automatic Start/Stop, or AutoStop, technology. How do there systems work: the reduce emissions and fuel consumption by automatically turning off the engine when the car is stationary. After the brake is released, the engine quickly and automatically resumes.

As a result, the new Cadillac ATS, CTS and Escalade owners will deliver cleaner and more fuel-efficient perspectives of driving. And by the way, the CO2 output has been reduced up to 6 percent on the ATS and CTS, which is pretty impressive. Maybe Volkswagen can learn something from that.

  • 2014 Cadillac CTS at Nurburgring

2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport was tested at the world’s most-demanding test track – Germany’s Nurburgring – and recorded lap times to enhance the nameplate’s reputation as a driver’s car.

The performance saloon set a lap time of 8:14.10, almost six seconds faster than the first generation CTS-V recorded 10 years ago with a larger V8 engine.

The 3.6 twin-turbo V6 produces 420HP (313 kW) and 583Nm (430 lb-ft) of torque in the CTS Vsport. It is connected to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Nurburgring validation certified that all CTS suspension packages are capable of handling the extreme conditions and unlimited speeds of Autobahn driving. CTS development included Autobahn and track calibrations of the steering system, shock absorbers, chassis controls and powertrain cooling.

“The Nurburgring’s extreme conditions allow us to push cars to the limits of stability, steering, braking, ride and handling. The new CTS models had a lot to live up to considering the nameplate’s history of outstanding performance, and we were not disappointed” commented Dave Leone, CTS executive chief engineer, Performance Luxury Vehicles.

  • Cadillac 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine [video]

Cadillac has published a video featuring the twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 engine that will power the 2014 CTS Vsport and 2014 XTS Vsport models. The engine kicks turbo lag to the curb with a unique combination of smaller turbochargers, top-mounted throttle body and shorter air pathways.

Air flow routing volume is reduced by more than 60 % when compared with a conventional design that features a chassis-mounted heat exchanger. The water-to-air cooler system achieves more than 80 % cooling efficiency with only about 1 psi (7 kPa) flow restriction at peak power
    for fast torque production.

    The 3.6 twin-turbo V6 produces 420HP (313 kW) and 583Nm (430 lb-ft) of torque in the CTS Vsport, while the XTS Vsport will have 410HP (305 kW) and 500Nm (369 lb-ft).

Both models will hit the market this fall and CTS VSport will be priced from $59,995, while the XTS VSport will be sold for $63,020.

  • 2014 Cadillac CTS Reveals New Design Approaches

2014-Cadillac-CTS-THUMBWhen one looks more deeply at the 2014 Cadillac CTS he or she reveals that some new design approaches have been applied on it. We are speaking here about the new form and function of the headlamps.

The new luxury sport sedan combines light-emitting diode and high intensity discharge lights in order to create a sleeker new “face” for this Cadillac model. In particular, the CTS sedan includes 16 indirect fire LED lights on each headlamp with eight LEDs beginning on the fender of the car and an additional eight LEDs continuing down the front bumper. The eight LED lights on the front bumper also double as a turn indicator.

As a matter of fact, all of these LEDs when combined together operate as a single day-time running lights. The main headlights or the projectors are composed of a single HID element that serves as both low and high beams. In addition, the Active Forward Lighting delivers more clear vision through corners by turning with steering direction.

2014 Cadillac CTS was recently introduced at this year’s New York International Auto Show. The model delivers expanded performance, elevated luxury and sophisticated technology. This is the third-generation CTS. It combines engineering and design solutions from the architecture of the ATS sport sedan and will be the lightest car its class.

  • Cadillac Twin-Turbo V6 in 2014 CTS Sedan

Cadillac has released full details of a new Twin-Turbo V6 coupled with an 8-speed gearbox. The powertrain will be introduced with the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS midsize luxury sedan debuting next week at the New York Auto Show.

The Cadillac Twin-Turbo V6 is the most power-dense six-cylinder engine in the midsize luxury segment – a 3.6L with 118 horsepower per liter (88 kW/liter).

“The new Cadillac Twin-Turbo brings a new dimension of technologically advanced performance to the all-new 2014 Cadillac CTS sedan,” commented David Leone, executive chief engineer.

“Delivering power and sophistication, it marks another large step forward in the product-driven expansion of Cadillac.”, he added.

The power is 420HP (313 kW) and 583 (430 lb-ft) ot torque at 2,500RPM. The engine has 15 % greater power density than BMW 535i’s turbocharged 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged engine. However, we need to mention that BMW has introduced this engine many years ago, when General Motors didn’t have slightest idea, how to create super power-dense engines.

The new CTS will accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.6 seconds  and has a top speed of 274 km/h (170 mph).

The new Cadillac Twin-Turbo will expand the performance envelope of the upcoming 2014 CTS midsize luxury sedan, launching this fall in the United States. The engine will also will be offered in the 2014 XTS large luxury sedan this fall.

The new engine is a comprehensive upgrade on the 60-degree, 3.6L DOHC V-6 offered in today’s SRX, XTS and ATS. However, almost every component is unique. New features include:

    • All-new cylinder block casting
    • All-new cylinder head castings
    • Strengthened connecting rods
    • Machined, domed aluminum pistons with top steel ring carrier for greater strength
    • 10.2:1 compression ratio
    • Patented, integrated charge air cooler system with low-volume air ducts
    • Two turbochargers produce more than 12 pounds of boost (80 kPa)
    • Vacuum-actuated wastegates with electronic control valves
    • All-new direct injection fuel system
    • Tuned air inlet and outlet resonators, aluminum cam covers and other features that contribute to exceptional quietness and smoothness.

The 2014 CTS sedan will also feature the naturally aspirated 3.6L V-6 rated at 321 horsepower, as well as a 2.0L turbocharged engine rated at an estimated 272 horsepower.
