  • Ford Performance reveals limited run of new Mustang machines

2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Ford Performance reveals details about one of the fastest drag vehicles that the brand has ever produced – a menacing Mustang that is capable of covering quarter of a mile in mere mid-eight-second range. This Mustang Cobra Jet is also a limited-edition vehicle that honors the 50th anniversary of the original drab beast, revealed in 1968.

Making its debut this weekend at the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise, the Cobra Jet would try to become the most powerful and quickest Mustang Cobra Jet ever created – and we tend to believe such words. After all, stock rates are pretty impressive – the vehicle can reach 150mph incredibly fast and at the same time the eight-second quarter mile run is pretty menacing achievement.

In terms of drivetrain system, the vehicle is geared with an exclusive 5.2-liter engine that appears to be a revised version of Ford’s popular and successful 5.0-liter V8 that is strengthened and enhanced with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger. The power is distributed to the wheels through a 9-inch solid rear axle, two-way coil-over stocks with adjustable ride height and low-drag disc brake system from Strange Engineering. There’s also an exclusive four-link rear suspension with antiroll and panhard bars. Neat!

Furthermore, there are additional factory-provided racing performance upgrades such as NHRA-certified safety roll cage, FIA-certified seats and anniversary-badged racing wheels. Available in Race Red and Oxford White, the vehicle also features neat 50th Anniversary graphics and badging. And if you are interested in buying one, you’d better hurry up – the production is limited to 68 vehicles! Enjoy!

  • Limited to 50 Units 2016 Cobra Jet Mustang Debuts at SEMA Show [VIDEO]

2016 Cobra Jet Mustang Front View2016 Cobra Jet Mustang prepared by Ford Performance has been just revealed at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Basically, the latest Cobra Jet is a limited-edition turnkey race car. The important ‘thing’ that differentiates it from any other cars is that the snake is absolutely legal for National Hot Rod Association Stock and Super Stock drag racing, as well as several other classes in the International Hot Rod Association, National Mustang Racers Association and National Muscle Car Association.

The saddest fact is that just like the previous generation, this one is limited to 50 units and they all will be colored in either Oxford White or Deep Impact Blue. Of course, from each shade there will be 25 units.

What’s the deal with the Cobra Jet? Well, 75 percent of it is based on the production Mustang GT and includes the same components topped by a front inlet Whipple supercharger. This makes it capable of eight-second quarter-mile times.

Furthermore, the 2016 edition of the series uses drag race-specific coil-over shocks and springs as well as lightweight racing brakes delivered by Strange Engineering. For enhanced safety, the driver and passenger will be protected by 8.50-certified roll cage. Other enhancements include Aeromotive fuel system with trunk-mounted fuel cell, Corbeau FIA seats, five-point race harnesses and race-prepped automatic transmission.

The exquisite work of the experts at Ford Performance included adding technology from other parts of the company and adapting it for racing. Therefore it is not a surprise that the Cobra Jet engine utilizes an electric water pump from Ford C-MAX Hybrid that allows cool-down without the engine running. As a result the car has more consistent racing as well as improved management of engine temperature. And to prove out powertrain’s capability, dyno cells were calibrated to simulate drag strip burnouts and quarter-mile runs.

2016 Cobra Jet Mustang will be dedicated for North America only. It will be produced at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan with production start on the way. The first deliveries are expected in the first quarter of 2016. Pricing starts at $99,990 USD.

  • 2013 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet

Since 1968 Ford’s Cobra Jet Mustang has achieved to make a legacy of power, performance and triumph. In 2008 this legacy was made anew with the limited run of the 40th Anniversary Cobra Jet Mustang (of course it quickly sold out). Consequently the models of 2010 and 2012 are as popular as the previous ones, and moreover they are a proof for the continues Evolution of Ford Racing’s Turnkey Race Car Program

On Friday Dec. 2, Ford Racing unveiled their 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Performance Racing Industry show in Orlando, Fla. The 2013 Cobra Jet went through three year period of testing, racing and customer feedback in order to continue the legacy. It was designed for NHRA Stock and Super Stock competition. And we must say that the model is better than ever and features the latest drag racing technology for greater acceleration and consistency.

To be more precise the 2013 Cobra Jet offers two 5.0-liter Ti-VCT engine options. Therefore every individual taste will be met. Namely, clients have the opportunity to choose a naturally aspirated engine with Cobra Jet induction system, CNC ported heads, high-lift cams and low-drag accessory drive, or a 2.9-liter Whipple supercharged version with CNC port-matched manifold and heads, and a proprietary 10-rib supercharger drive system for high-rpm use without belt slip.

Furthermore, there has been made improvements in the chassis of the 2013 Cobra Jet. What I mean are the modifications in the lightweight body, which give better weight distribution. On the other hand the electric power steering provides better drivability without parasitic horsepower loss. Additionally a new roll cage design has been optimized for safety and chassis rigidity. Not forgetting the brake pedal – its ratio has been revised as well in order to have more modulation and stopping power. The rear suspension geometry delivers faster and more consistent 60-foot times.

And if you wonder about the numbers of the price, the 2013 Cobra Jet is at best value, with an approximate MSRP of $86,000 (for the naturally aspirated engine option) and $93,000 (for the supercharged engine)

As usual, the 2013 Cobra Jet Mustang will be made by the United Auto Workers at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Mich. Production of Cobra Jets will commence in June 2012, with delivery in the middle of the summer of 2012. The components of the vehicle will be available through Ford Performance Parts. This of course will allow racers to upgrade their Mustangs to Cobra Jet specifications.

Unfortunately 2013 Cobra Jet production is limited to only 50 units.
