  • Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC – KW Lowering Springs

KW Tuning is now offering height-adjustable spring kits for Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Coupe and Shooting Brake. Unlike the normal lowering kits, the ride height can be adjusted to suit the driver’s needs. Of course, the spring kits are TUV certified.

The front axle can be lowered up to 40 mm and the rear axle by 35 mm. The new suspension can be installed quickly and easily. In every workshop or tire dealer, the technicians can replace the standard springs with KW springs.

“While regular lowering springs only allow a fixed lowering of 30, 40 or 50 millimeters, the KW coilover springs can be lowered individually”, said KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker.

“The driver has the option to drive his car with any level of lowering he likes within the adjustment range. Plus, when changing wheels and tyres, he has the option to adjust the ride height to suit the new setup. With conventional springs this would not be possible.”, he added.

The coilover springs can be individually adjusted between 20 and 40 mm at the front axle. The level of lowering at the rear axle is between 15 and 35 mm.

The height-adjustable KW springs a with German TÜV certificate are also available for the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4MATIC.

  • 2012 Geneva Motor Show: Carlsson Mercedes-Benz CK63 RS

2012-Mercedes-Benz-Carlsson-CK63-RS-THUMB2012 Carlsson Mercedes-Benz CK63 RS is based on the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG and carries the powerful V8-Biturbo with added performance package by Carlsson Autotechnik. First, the AMG eight-cylinder engine with a cylinder capacity of 5.461 cm already produces 557 hp (410 kW) at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 800 Nm (588 lb-ft) at 2,000 rpm. However, Carlsson engineers additionally improved the engine and increasedits power to the significant 652 hp (480 kW) with a maximum trque of 1000 Nm of 2,000 – 4,500 rpm, the maximum torque lies at 1,000 Nm (735 lb-ft). This power increase allows the Carlsson CK63 RS to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.1 seconds. In addtion, a tailor-made, multi-flow, complete stainless steel exhaust system with downpipes, metal catalysts and front and rear silencers supports the power enhancement and is also fitted with an exhaust damper system.

    2012 Mercedes-Benz Carlsson CK63 RS
    2012 Mercedes-Benz Carlsson CK63 RS

Furthermore, Carlsson has modified the vehicle at the front axle thus making it more agile. The AMG Ride Control sports suspension springs at the front axle have been replaced with Carlsson springs with more progressive spring characteristics. They lower the CLS by 30 millimeters. In addition 1/10-type Carlsson wheels in a stylish star design with single and double spokes embellish the wheel housing of the Carlsson sports sedan. They are with 9 x 20” rims at the front and 10.5 x 20” at the drive axle. More aerodynamic components were featured in the tuning: front spoiler and the RS front spoiler lip, black stainless steel grille inserts, rear spoiler, together with the rear apron insert, integrated Carlsson RS rear diffuser made from real carbon.

The interior of this Carlsson vehicle was made by master-saddlers applying thier traditional hand-craftsmanship. Of course, they have used the finest materials: leather, the finest Alcantara, carbon fiber, natural woods and other exclusive natural materials. A combination of brown Alcantara and mocha-brown Carlsson NAPPA EXCLUSIVE leather wrappes the interior. Moreover, thee interior modification for the Carlsson CK63 RS is eventually finished with details, such as Carlsson foot mats, door sill panels with blue, illuminated Carlsson lettering and door-locking pins made from polished aluminum.

  • The Carlsson CK63 RS (CLS 63 AMG) at Geneva

Carlsson-CK63-RS-thumbIt’s rare to see people expressing discontent from an AMG product, but just to be safe, German tuning house Carlsson have an ambitious project – The Carlsson CK63 RS. It is based on the current Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG but with a bigger bite, lower ride and a dash of exclusivity. Carlsson do mean business, for a performance bundled version of the CK63 RS is set to appear to the public at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The standard CLS 63 AMG with Performance package has a 5.5 V8 biturbo engine that feeds 557 BHP and 800 Nm of torque to the AMG Speedshift 7-speed sports gearbox. After Carlsson had finished working with it, that bar had been set even higher even higher, or so they claim – 652 BHP and one thousand Nm of torque. That is why, the Carlsson engineers also saw fit to instal an additional transmission oil cooling system. All this effort translates into a time of 4.1 seconds on the 60mph sprint. A very loud sprint if we may add. The exhaust system has been replaced by a tailor-made, multi-flow, complete stainless steel setup with downpipes, metal catalysts and front and rear silencers. Of course you can tone it down to become as silent as a gentle purr, thanks to the exhaust damper system controlled manually from the driving seat. But who would leave it like that?

Few would dare to modify the handling of a Performance package AMG but the newfound power calls for some tweaks – the front axle springs have been replaced with Carlsson springs with more progressive spring characteristics. Also as a consequence the ride is now 30 mm lower. The whole car sits on 1/10-type Carlsson wheels – 9 x 20” rims at the front and 10.5 x 20” at the back.

    Carlsson CK63 RS
    Carlsson CK63 RS

More personality is added when we look at the aerodynamic features of the Carlsson. A front spoiler and RS carbon spoiler lip decorate the nose while at the back we have a custom diffuser and a rear spoiler for greater downforce.

The interior of the CK63 RS can best be described as a blend of mocha-brown leather, brown Alcantara, carbon fiber, natural woods and more. The leather used is wet-dyed, providing the feeling of a fine leather glove and, because the finished product is 1/1.4 millimeters thick, it is also particularly durable. Other Carlsson highlights include the foot mats, door sill panels with blue, illuminated Carlsson lettering and door-locking pins made from polished aluminum. It’s not all upholstery though. We do not excel much in IT, but the Carlsson have fitted a ‘Viprinet Multichannel VPN Router 500’… which sounds fast. In fact it is. The company says that with this the RS will have a stable high-speed Internet connection even at high speeds.
