  • Citroen C4 Cactus Chrome Edition Shown at Q Awards 25th Anniversary

Citroen-C4-Cactus-Chrome-Edition-THUMBCitroen is releasing a one-off C4 Cactus Chrome Edition in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Q Awards. This signifies that the company has continued the sponsorship of the event for another year, thus remaining in-tune with the UK music industry. The prestigious Q Awards took place yesterday (22 October) at the Grosvenor House Hotel and was hosted by Absolute Radio’s Christian O’Connell. In addition, Citroen revealed that it will sponsor this years ‘Best Solo Artist’ category winner – Ed Sheeran.

A fleet of chauffeur-driven Grand C4 Picasso and C4 Cactus models were there to transport the celebrity guests to the venue. The star in company’s range of vehicles at the event was the one-off chrome-finished C4 Cactus, which also appeared on the red carpet.

It immediately gathered glances and was the transport-of-choice for the French composer, performer and music producer Jean-Michel Jarre. He also got an award – the coveted Q Innovation In Sound Award.

Citroen C4 Cactus Chrome Edition includes the special Airbump feature. It does away with dents and scratches in real life and it is found on the front and rear bumpers and the sides. Airbump provides a type of buffer zone which protects the actual body. The car is also equipped with an array of driving aids such as the park assist, a reversing camera, hill-start assist, to name a few.

The C4 Cactus is powered by Citroen’s latest-generation engines. These modern and efficient engines, PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel with Stop & Start, need very little fuel to run. The gasoline powered are the naturally aspirated three-cylinder PureTech VTi 82 engine with capacity of 1.2l and the turbocharged PureTech e-THP 110 engine with a central direct-injection turbocharger and dual VVT.

On the diesel side is the BlueHDi 100 unit, which is an example of another step towards cleaner diesel, cutting CO₂ emissions to a record low 82g/km and keeping fuel consumption on a tight rein up to 91.1mpg on a combined cycle.

  • Citroen C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L Concept to Debut in Paris

Citroen C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L Concept is going to be officially premiered at the Paris Motor Show this October, showing its environmental credentials and great fuel economic pressures. The vehicle is packed with advanced technologies that offer innovative responses to the automotive challenges of the present and those of the future. This Citroen delivers breakthrough fuel consumption of 2l/100 km (over 141mpg)!

This is due to the fact that it has optimised design with a 20% improvement in aerodynamics, it runs on lower rolling resistance “tall & narrow” tyres, it is built with lighter parts that reduce overall vehicle weight by 100kg and at last but not least – it features the Hybrid Air technology, which cuts fuel consumption by 30%.

This C4 Cactus features a body optimized for aerodynamic performance. This means that some styling features have been modified and others created in order to optimise vehicle aerodynamics. For instance, the new front bumper includes three air intakes that continuously adjust in accordance with vehicle use, both for engine cooling and to regulate air flow. There are mobile side deflectors added to effectively guide the air flow around the vehicle. The wheels feature mobile shutters activated and controlled by centrifugal force.

The fixed-geometry components include: new generation 19-inch “ultra ultra” low rolling resistance “tall & narrow” tyres, wheel arches with “Air Curtain”, lengthened spoiler smaller and slimmer rearview cameras instead of rearview mirrors and LED light modules at the front and rear instead of the existing lights. The colour orange identifies all the aerodynamic features and underlines the high-tech character of the C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L concept.

In terms of weight, this concept is 100 kg lighter than the production C4 Cactus. To achieve this, Citroen has reduced the weight of many structural components, with the body sub-structure featuring new materials such as aluminium, for the upper cowl panel, inner side members and rear floor pan, high-yield steels, for the front side rails and heel board and composite materials for the front of the vehicle floor.

Furthermore, in this project the French company utilizes the Hybrid Air technology for breakthrough fuel consumption, which combines a range of proven sub-systems and technologies. Precisely, this includes a 3-cylinder PureTech petrol engine, a compressed air energy storage unit, a hydraulic pump/motor unit and an automatic transmission with an epicyclic gear train.

In addition, the intelligent electronic management system manages input from the driver to optimise energy efficiency. There are three operating modes are available: zero emissions Air power mode, where the compressed air motor takes over from the petrol engine; Petrol power, using only the combustion engine; and Combined power, drawing upon both the combustion engine and the compressed air.

The combination of PureTech 82 engine and Hybrid Air technology minimizes fuel consumption by 30%. In addition, it also contributes to achieving a vehicle capable of 2l/100 km, while approaching the PureTech 110 in terms of dynamic performance.

Citroen C4 Cactus AIRFLOW 2L Concept Technical Characteristics:

    • Unladen weight: 865kg
    • Length: 4,156mm
    • Width: 1,729mm
    • Height: 1,487mm (to be confirmed)
    • CdA: improvement around 20%
    • Hybrid Air drivetrain mated to the PureTech 82 S&S engine
    • Tyres: Michelin 155/70/R19

  • Citroen Roll Out The C4 Cactus

Citroen-C4-Cactus-shadowCitroen-C4-Cactus-mediumThis is the completely real (as in “production”) Citroen C4 Cactus here to rock your world.  Now, we know you might be thinking, “Production you say? Then what are those designy thingies on it?”

Ah, you see, that’s the Cactus’ thermoplastic polyurethane shell (TPU). Well, here’s a more rustic name for it: Airbump® – it’s supposed to do away with dents and scratches in real life. Found on the front and rear bumpers and the sides, the Airbump® provides a type of buffer zone which protects the actual body. We guess “bubble wrap” was already taken, huh?

So we have cushions on the outside, a mind-bending array of driving aids – park assist, a reversing camera, hill-start assist, to name a few – have they lost all confidence in the human proneness to accidents…oh.

Yes, “clever” is the word of the day. The C4 is sleek and slippery, it’s spacious, comfortable and very high-tech….for a cactus. Who needs dials and needles nowadays when there’s an app for that? A 7-inch touchscreen conjures up any cluster you might fancy – from the air conditioning controls to the yellow pages index. Face it, we’ve all felt the need to order Chinese whilst behind the wheel. Feel free to order as much as you want too. See, despite being arguably small (4.16 m long; 1.73 m wide) the Cactus is till a C-class vehicle. Ergo, you still get a 358 liter boot. A UV-protective panoramic roof amplifies the sense of space even more.

If you go for the optional Efficient Tronic Gearbox (ETG) you also lose the stick. Instead, there’s this selection system that Citroen is trying to push on us called the Easy Push. Yeah, we made the lamest pun ever.

And no, the Cactus doesn’t have an iPhone for an engine, but there is no fusion reactor to be found either? More like a 110bhp turbo three-cylinder petrol at best. But that’s ok because the whole thing weighs no more than a 1000 kg thanks to a heavy aluminum diet. It shouldn’t be too sluggish is what we mean. And with the Stop/Start system as standard, the Cacti (plural) fuel economy and emission values are rated at around 91.1 mpg and less than 100 g/km of CO2 – cleanliness truly is next to godliness.
