  • Skoda To Debut CitiJet Design Concept

Skoda-CitiJet-Design-Concept-THUMbSkoda CitiJet Design Concept is the second concept vehicle we present today that is to have its premiere at the Woerthersee Festival in Austria. It is a two-seater sports convertible, which is based on the Skoda Citigo. The design concept is the result of brand’s ‘Apprentice Car’ project. The work on the car lasted six months – from November 2013 until shortly before the GTI event. The creativity of the apprentices was supported by Skoda’s Head Designer Jozef Kaban and his team. The result is undoubtedly an emotional design concept that will attract the attention of visitors at the event.

The exterior of this concept includes distinctive metallic paintwork in blue/white and racy. The car runs on blue 16-inch alloy wheels and also features a hand-made rear spoiler as well as a powerful exhaust with two tailpipes. CitiJet Design Concept is powered by the 1.0 MPI petrol engine which develops 55 kW (75 hp).

Inside, the interior is sporty and is based on the Citigo Sport special edition. This means that it includes red-stitched, leather-lined three-spoke steering wheel as well as the leather cover of the handbrake handle and gear knob.

The dashboard is painted white/red, while a 300 watt sound system will deliver perfect sound for the entertainment of the occupants. In addition, the interior also has music-reactive LED lighting.

Although this is the first time that this kind of trainee project has been undertaken at Skoda, it clearly has shown great results. The aim of the company was to encourage the apprentices’ creativity, teamwork and expertise. The outcome: a truly unique and emotional car, of which everybody involved, should be very proud of.

  • Skoda Citigo 5-door World Debut at Geneva

Skoda-Citigo-5-door-thumbThe 2012 Geneva Motor Show will no doubt bring excitement to all rubber-burning, rev counting motoring enthusiasts. But a motor show isn’t a genuine one without some space for practicality and sensibility. That is why Skoda is world premiering the 5-door Citigo sub-compact car there. It’s a boxy little thing that is designed to be simple, neat and easy to live with.

Power, which isn’t much, comes from a 3-cylinder, 1.0 Litre petrol engine and amounts to 44 kW/60 hp or 55 kW/75 hp. (power variations of the same engine). In its most eco-friendly form, the Green tec variant, the new Citigo achieves 4.1 l/100 km or around 69 mpg. CO2 emissions in the new Skoda are just bellow 100g/km. In the world of today, the Citigo makes a lot of sense as it counters fuel prices, congestion and overall vehicle expenses.

If one does think about it, the Citigo doesn’t need power in excess as it hasn’t got a big bulky body and a handful of luxuries to carry around. Skoda say that inside it is as roomy as possible but how roomy can that be? The features listed as “ingenious” include net holders, a photo/document holder and a bag hook on the glove compartment – hardly technical innovations. But while the Citigo lacks luxury flash, it does make up for it by being a proud holder of a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating. So this is what the Citigo really is – “simply clever” and no more.

At its home market this member of the Skoda family has recently become the Best City Car in the largest Czech automobile poll, the Car of the Year 2012. Now the company is aiming at broadening it’s market outside of the Czech Republic. It is all part of an overall growth plan that will hopefully culminate in 2018 when Skoda annual shipments reach the 1.5 million mark. City cars such as the Citigo are the backbone of every successful company which produces great cars for all kinds of people.

  • Skoda MissionL Concept Targets Qatar Motor Show

SKODA-MissionL-concept-thumgLast year, Skoda have delivered 879,200 vehicles to budget oriented, sensible customers. That’s 15% more in comparison with 2010 sales. Today Skoda are planing to keep up that pace by expanding to the East. The Qatar Motor Show will see the Skoda MissionL concept for the first time outside European land.

Just for the record, when we say concept we do actually mean an almost-ready-production-car. The MissionL goes on sale in late 2012 and it is designed to fill in the gap between the Fabia and Octavia (a sort of a small family saloon segment). Skoda say that the design features on the MissionL act as a definitive of the company’s future approach on aesthetics. For starters, this concept is among the first proud wearers of the new Skoda badge. The  outside lines of the saloon are more simple yet sharper which gives an overall athletic feel. The grille is framed in chrome while consisting of vertical plate fins that attribute to the depth of the whole front end. Daytime running lights and blinkers are mere luminescent bands positioned at the edges of the main headlights as fog lights frame the lower grille. The party piece however, is the tinted yet transparent glass roof that spans over the whole cabin. The interior is a feast of sensibility, neatness and efficiency seasoned with a bit of luxury thanks to the bichrome wheel, control panel and seat covers.

Skoda has already started its offense on the market with the launch of the Citigo in the Czech Republic and the introduction of the Rapid in India and feedback seems positive. The company’s plan within the near 5 years is to get those annual sales up to 1,5 million. In addition to the MissionL, ŠKODA is displaying Fabia, Octavia, Yeti and Superb at the Qatar Motor Show, all models are available in the local market.

  • Skoda Citigo – 5 stars from Euro NCAP

The highest possible ratings in the class of city cars go for the new Citigo from ŠKODA. This automobile is with five Euro NCAP stars and was eagerly anticipated. And the effect is that the ŠKODA Citigo has received the highest number of points in its class, in tests by independent crash-test experts at Euro NCAP. Firstly Euro NCAP assessors affirmed that the overall safety packages, including its passenger, infant and pedestrian protection are exceptional. Without a doubt, ŠKODA counts on the affordable and yet uncompromising safety.

Furthermore praises for the Citigo go for the levels of passenger protection it offers. For example Euro NCAP’s assessment involves front and side collisions plus a pole test.

This car is all about safety: Next go the admirations for the infant safety. Here ŠKODA again has achieved excellent results. And to be more precise – the car received full marks in tests simulating the protection of a three-year-old child.

Moreover Euro NCAP testers praised the inclusion of head-thorax airbags as standard equipment across the Citigo range, and belt-fastening reminders on all seats.

Last but not least is to be mentioned that the ŠKODA Citigo is the first car in the city car segment (together with the Volkswagen up! and SEAT Mii) that has a low-speed, active emergency braking assistant (which was called City Safe Drive). This innovative technology helps during urban driving and operates automatically at speeds lower than 30km/h (18mph).  Depending on speed and level of traffic, the system can mitigate the affects of a crash or prevent it altogether.

More details of the ŠKODA Citigo’s crash-test result are available on the Euro NCAP website at www.euroncap.com.
