  • 2016 Chevy Volt to offer easier charging

    2016-Chevy-Volt_thumb2016-Chevy-Volt_651

Electric cars have many benefits – a simpler chassis, fewer internal parts, no harmful emissions and more but people worry about being able or not to charge their cars when such a need arises. Chevrolet knows this very well and that’s why the new 2016 Chevy Volt will offer easier and more user-friendly charging.

“Chevrolet used the real-world experiences of today’s Volt owners to make the charging process simpler and more convenient in the next-generation Volt,” said Andrew Farah, chief engineer for the Volt. “The new Volt will give owners greater flexibility for charging it on their terms.”

The new car comes with improvements when it comes to recharging the battery and checking the battery level. There are three major new features that customers will get to enjoy – GPS location-based charging, new and more intuitive charge status indicators and portable cord enhancements.

The GPS location-based charging will allow owners to set their charging preferences exclusively for their “home” charging location and the vehicle will automatically adjust to that setting when it is at that location. The car will recognize when it arrives “home” based on GPS data. This will allow owners to pre-set their charging level (8 amps or 12 amps on 120V only) and whether they wish to charge immediately, set a departure time for each day of the week, or set a departure time and a utility rate schedule to charge only at off-peak rates. Owners can input their local utility’s rate schedule into their Volt to assure they’re charging using the cheapest electricity rates. They will only have to program the system once and the Volt will return to these settings every time it is at its home location.

The new and more intuitive charge status indicators make it easier for owners to confirm that their Volt is charging and to see what the status of the charge gauge is. The new status system features a specially designed tone that indicates when charging has begun, with additional tones for delayed charging. It will even indicate if the charge port door was left open after unplugging but before entering the vehicle. Moreover, if you glance through the windshield you can see an updated charge status indicator light on the on the top of the instrument panel to show the approximate charge level through a series of flashes.

The portable cord set enhancements include a new 120V portable cord set that incorporates a cord that is nearly 25 feet long, which is longer than the current 120V portable cord. It can be locked using a small padlock to deter unauthorized removal during charging. Based directly on customer feedback, a new storage bin for the cord is now located on the left side of the Volt’s rear cargo area, above the load floor, for improved accessibility.

Excited about the new 2016 Volt? Then have some patience – the car will debut in January at the North American International Auto Show.

  • Aveo Heads Euro NCAP Safety Ranking

2012-Chevrolet-Aveo-thumbChevrolet is building a reputation of a manufacturer that produces safe cars for the road which can only underline the already appealing character of its vehicles. The Aveo now is the latest Chevrolet with a 5-star Euro NCAP. Not only that but it is also the best in its class (the supermini segment).

Rigorously tested for virtually every scenario by NCAP, the Aveo scored an overall score of 85 out of 100 which is as high as it goes for cars from that segment. The Aveo fared particularly well in the key areas of adult and child occupant protection – 95 and 87 out of 100 respectively. And no wonder. The Aveo is packed full of safety technology. Six airbags as standard, all linked to a sensor box in the center of the car. Also a child-seat latching system is also standard. Things that keep the car on the road are things such as electronic stability control, traction control, a four-channel anti-lock braking system with brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution. For the more novice drivers, the Aveo also offers hill-start assist and cruise control with a speed limiter function.

“We take safety very seriously at Chevrolet and this class-leading result for the New Chevrolet Aveo proves this entirely,” said Mark Terry, Managing Director, Chevrolet UK. “Our whole model line-up provides impeccable safety credentials with the majority achieving a five star rating; it brings great peace of mind to our customers.”

The Aveo is not the only NCAP veteran here. Chevrolet has an extensive lineup of cars that have been awarded five stars in safety – Cruze, Captiva and Orlando all share that award. And the Volt (the electric one) was also given a five star award in 2011 proving that electric vehicles do not compromise safety.

  • Chevrolet Volt to conquer China in 2012

Volt at Shanghai Port thumbThe first Chevrolet Volt has made its debut this month in China at the HaiTong Port in Shanghai. The car is part of a 10-vehicle General Motors demonstration fleet which is going to be presented in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai. All of the exhibited electric vehicles will give customers the chance to experience an industry-leading electric vehicle in daily use. Moreover GM will use information taken from the test drives and charging experience in order to understand better the application of electric vehicles in China. Therefore the company will provide consumers with hands on exposure to the extended range vehicle concept. This is very important step that GM will undertake to prepare for an expansion of offerings of vehicles powered by electricity. In addition GM will also work closely with government and industry officials. The aim is to help develop a public vehicle charging infrastructure.

The award-winning Volt will be sold through thirteen especially selected dealerships in eight substantial cities in the country. To conquer one of the first global markets such as China, Volt provides drivers with no compromises in performance or driving range, having in mind that it is the first extended range electric vehicle. Moreover Volt provides up to 80 kilometers of electric driving. And then after battery consumption it can drive another 490 kilometers using an on-board engine generator! Therefore there will be no fear of being stranded by a spent battery. The car is the best electric vehicle solution for China nowadays, because it is not limited by range or a public charging. More importantly the Volt is also very economical to operate. For instance when it is charged during off-peak hours it costs less than one-tenth of the amount of driving on petrol vehicle alone.

Volt models for retail sale, priced at RMB 498,000, will arrive in early 2012 at thirteen selected dealerships in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan.

  • 2011 Chevrolet Volt Price – £28 545

Chevrolet has announced 2011 Volt for the UK market and the price is just £28 545. The car a range of 30 to 50 miles only on electricity and can achieve an impressive result of 127 mpg, which is 1.85 liters per 100 km.

Chevy Volt suffered a huge criticism, because of the ridiculous statements of GM. Firstly, they claimed that the car will go with only 1 liter per 100km (230mpg) and after that, Volt was named an EV (electric vehicle), but in fact it is a plug-in hybrid since the gasoline engine it carries turns on to help with acceleration.

2011 Chevrolet Volt is powered by an electric motor with maximum power of 150PS (111 kW) and 368Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. The car has 16 kWh (10.4 kWh usable) lithium-ion battery pack and, when it is depleted, a small naturally aspirated 1.4 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 80HP powers a 55kW generator to extend the Volt’s range.

Still, Volt is expected to have huge success, because of its efficiency and performance.
