  • ABBES Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Designed by ABBES Design, the independent model Chevrolet Corvette outshines the stock version in all aspects. The new Stingray is a breathtaking amalgamation of excellent engineering work and purpose-driven design. The transaxle construction and lightweight aluminum V8 sitting which is behind the front axle, the high performance transmission along with the differential unit in the back of the vehicle all deliver a perfectly balanced weight distribution and optimal performance, thus, bringing Chevrolet to the next level.

Being one of the best and most experienced designers, ABBES creates a body kit that does not alter the characteristic look of the initial car. Instead, it gently blends in with the lines and curves of the Corvette that are already there. In consequence, ABBES succeeds in implementing a full capacity of perfectness and synchrony between the new and the old.

From day one the new Chevrolet Corvette has established itself as a pioneer in terms of the used industry first advanced features and materials. Now with the refinements by ABBES, the car’s 6.2 L motor is able to get that little extra pressure thanks to the compressor with a brilliant power distribution. On top of this, with the advanced cooling system the intake air will get cooled down in a way that will achieve the optimum combustion temperatures.

In addition to this, the ABBES professionals have developed a high performance braking system that has eight piston calipers on the front axle and four piston calipers on the rear axle. As a result, this amplification provides a better handling of the increased power.

Another improvement is seen in the two piece rotors. They are made from high density aluminum and are used in order to help in the process of saving weight. The ferrodo high performance brake pads ensure a constant controllable braking power in every temperature as well as stability.

Finally, the new ABBES coil over suspension serves to provide an easy and optimum road handling. The innovative coilovers can be adjusted in height, hardness and preloaded springs.

  • Cadillac Twin-Turbo – 3,000HP vs Chevrolet Corvette Twin-Turbo – 3,000HP [video]

Urbanhillbilly has published an impressive video on Youtube showing a drag racing between two insane vehicles – Cadillac XLR Twin-Turbo with 3,000HP and Proline Chevrolet Corvette Twin-Turbo also with 3,000HP. The race is at 1/8 mile, instead of the usual ¼ mile and the results are still impressive.

The Cadillac finished in 4.29 seconds with a trap speed of 188.25 mph (302.9 km/h), while the Corvette won with a time of 4.20 seconds and a trap speed of 185.54 mph (298.5 km/h).

Although the cars are extremely fast, there is something else that caught our attention. The Cadillac comes not only with over 3,000HP, but with power windows as well. Usually, drag cars are completely stripped to save weight, but the Cadillac might be street legal with normal tires and some minor upgrades. The Corvette on the other hand doesn’t have windows at all and interior as well, so it has to be a lot lighter helping it to win.

The Twin Turbo Cadillac XLR is driven by Scott Lowery, while the Proline Twin Turbo Chevrolet Corvette has Mark Woodruff behind the steering wheel. The spectacular battle is held on the famous Tulsa Raceway Park.

    Enjoy!

  • 2014 Callaway Chevrolet Corvette Gets Torque Update [627 HP; 827 Nm]

2014-callaway-corvette-005-THUMBThe last time we have heard about 2014 Callaway Chevrolet Corvette Callaway it produced the astonishing 620 horsepower (456 kW) and 810 Nm (600 lb-ft) of torque. These figures obviously weren’t enough for the tuners and engineers at Callaway so they have opted for a toque update. After vehicle testing and validation, the vehicle has been rated at 627 horsepower (461 kW) at 6400 rpm and 827 Nm (610 lb-ft) at 4400 rpm of torque. In other words over the stock Corvette baseline the increase is exactly 167 hp (123 kW) and 196 Nm (145 lb-ft).

The graphic below illustrates the increase in power due to Callaway‘s new supercharger design and single acoustic chamber exhaust system. The horsepower increases gradually from idle to maximum engine speed, thus avoiding peaking at 6000 rpm. You can also see a broad torque curve with output of more than 678 Nm (500 lb-ft) at only 2200 rpm.

Callaway’s supercharger system features intake manifold design with new intercooler design, and a 2300cc high helix angle as well as four-lobe rotor pack. In fact, the tuners have developed the long-runner manifold to enhance the mid-range torque. The result ism 77 Nm (57 lb-ft) more than last year’s Callaway Corvette.

The intercooler system features three discrete liquid-to-air cooling elements, thus providing great inlet air cooling efficiency. In addition, the extended supercharger housing, convective heat transfer yields additional reduction of inlet air temperature. This provides more oxygen for the volume of air and at the same time enhances the power and helps prevent engine-damaging detonation.

  • World Premiere: 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R Racecar

At the North American Auto Show Chevrolet made two exclusive premieres. The first on is of the breath taking Corvette Z06, whereas the second – of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R Racecar. Both cars were co-developed and represent the closest link between Corvettes built for the road and for racing. They share the masterful engineering of brand’s specialists and are equipped with new technologically advanced components in terms of chassis architecture, engine and aerodynamics.

For the racing season this year, Corvette Racing will enter two C7.Rs which will compete at the 52nd Rolex 24 At Daytona in ten days as well as the GT Le Mans class in 11 races around North America. It is also expected to be confirmed the participation of the team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

In 2013 Corvette Racing won five races and this success was due to the technology transfer between Corvette production cars and race cars. Many of the architectural and aerodynamic features of the C7R are based on equivalent components and technologies found in the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

For instance, the first one is the brand new aluminum frame, which was built with the extensive utilization of advanced manufacturing materials such as laser welding, Flow-drill-machined fasteners and a GM-patented aluminum spot-welding process. The goal was to make a production structure for the cars which is much stronger than previous ones.

The second feature that both cars share in common is the direct fuel injected engine. It is created in such way that it delivers greater efficiency and can make a significant difference in long-distance endurance racing such as Daytona and Le Mans through fewer time-consuming pit stops.

In the aspect of aerodynamics, Corvette C7.R features forward-tilted radiator, functional hood and front-quarter panel vents, and rear transmission and differential cooling intakes. Z06 and C7.R share strategies for improved cooling and aerodynamic downforce, including similar front splitters, rocker panels, and front- and rear-brake cooling ducts.

Of course, there are differences between both cars and they are mainly defined by the limitations of GT rules. First of all, C7.R has the same powertrain as the C6.R that has a displacement of 5.5L, and has no forced induction. In comparison, Z06 is equipped with supercharged 6.2L unit which develops 625 horsepower (460 kW). Despite these differences, both engines are based on the historic small block architecture.

The racecar is also built with modified suspension because of the wider racing tires and larger brakes, according to the GT regulations. The ducts on the C7.R can be seen on each of the rear quarter panels, above the brake ducts, which will draw air to help cool the race car’s transaxle and differential.

In addition, the rear wing has been made more more-significant part of vehicle’s aero package. A larger radiator inlet generates smoother airflow over the rear wing and makes its use more efficient to the handling and stability of the C7.R at higher speed.

  • It Is Official: 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Premiered In Detroit
