  • Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Achieves 22 mpg on the Highway

2015-Dodge-Challenger-SRT-THUMBIt is no secret that the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful muscle car ever built. This is due to its 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI Hellcat V-8 engine which produces 707 horsepower. In addition, the unit is mated to the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, which contributes towards the result of 22 miles per gallon for the highway fuel-economy rating, estimated from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Considering the price, output and highway fuel-economy ratings of cars like the Aventador Roadster (700 hp), Aston Marton Vanquish (576 hp) and Mercedes SLS AMG GT (583 hp), Challenger SRT Hellcat carves a special place for itself in the lofty world of high-performance driving.

The unique Hellcat engine benefits from content that is 91 percent new. It is engineered in-house and is designed for optimum durability. It features forged-steel crankshaft which have induction-hardened bearing surfaces, thus offering a capacity to withstand firing pressures of 1,595 psi (110 bar).

The premium-grade, heat-treated aluminum-alloy cylinder heads were improved for thermal conductivity. These are topped by a twin-screw 2,380-cc/rev supercharger which includes integral charge coolers and an integrated electronic bypass to regulate boost pressure to a maximum of 80 kPa (11.6 psi).

Furthermore, there is a separate low-temperature cooling circuit with two air/coolant heat exchangers that is integrated into the supercharger housing and that keeps air temperatures below 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius). At the same time it enables air flow of up to 30,000 liters per minute.

Next, Dodge‘s TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission has 30 percent greater maximum engine-torque capacity than any Chrysler eight-speed transmission. In addition, the  transmission features one additional pinion gear in each of the 1st and 3rd gear sets, and five more clutch-pack disks – two in clutch E and one each in clutches A, C and D. More importantly, what makes the gearbox so special is the 7.03 ratio spread. It enables the powerful HEMI Hellcat to operate in its most efficient mode.

When the Challenger SRT Hellcat is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission it achieves highway fuel-economy rating of 21 mpg. The sporty gearbox has an internal cooling pump and vehicle-mounted (external) oil cooler and its 258-mm heavy-duty clutch affords easy access to HEMI Hellcat’s exhilarating power.

  • 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Is The Fastest Muscle Car [VIDEO]

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful muscle car ever created with its 707 horsepower under the hood. The HEMI Hellcat engine however, not only makes this Dodge model the most potent muscle vehicle of all time, but also makes it the fastest one. You need just to watch the video below to get sure of this. What makes it the fastest is the National Hot Rod Association-certified ¼-mile elapsed time of 11.2 seconds at 125 miles per hour. Note that the car ran on stock Pirelli P275/40ZR20 P Zero tires. With drag radials, the run was even faster: just 10.8 seconds at 126 mph.

Challenger SRT’s HEMI Hellcat engine delivers an unprecedented 707 horsepower (520 kW) and 880 Nm (650 lb.-ft.) of torque. This engine is the first factory supercharged HEMI. In fact, not only the unit is new in the 2015 Challenger. It has been entirely redesigned and reengineered in order to be an embodiment of the most true-to-form muscle coupe on the market.

It features performance-enhancing technologies throughout the interior as well as exterior. Such are for instance the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and the new interior design that was inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger.

The exterior of the muscle car is distinguished by the dual air extractors, the hood in standard body color or in Satin Black, Air Catcher inlet port, quad projector headlamps, the integrated projector fog lamps and larger front splitter. At the sides there have been added “SUPERCHARGED” fender badges, while at the rear the tail lamps include new signature LED graphic. The rear spoiler is taller an features a raised SRT logo.

The interior comprises of stamped aluminum bezel and 7-inch driver-selectable driver information display. Dashboard’s center stack houses 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. There are also SRT-branded heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, refreshed seats with improved cushioning, heated and ventilated front seats covered in Nappa or Alcantara leather and featuring SRT logos as a standard.

This new Dodge raises the bar to a level we have thought we’d never see. The Challenger SRT Hellcat reaches deep into company’s history and brings back the notion from the muscle car era of the street and strip dual-purpose car. The Challenger is now capable of running 10s on the drag strip, and this makes it the ultimate GT muscle car. 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT will have a production start in the third quarter of 2014.

  • 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat [video]

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful muscle car leaving the factory. It will hit the market later this year and will demolish the rivalry. In fact, the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat is a bit more powerful than Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. Still, it is a “normal” everyday car, but with a huge racing potential.

2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat is powered by a 6.2 liter supercharged V8 – 707HP (527 kW) and 880Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque. The company previously stated that the coupe will have over 600HP (447 kW), so we expected a bit over, not another 107HP.  It is interesting that for the first time in Chrysler Group history, the all-new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with a Hellcat engine comes standard with two key fobs – red and black. The red key fob is the only key that can unlock the full power and torque of the car, while the black key fob limits the driver to a reduced engine output of just 500HP (368 kW).

The new 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been redesigned and totally re-engineered to be the most true-to-form muscle coupe on the market. It comes with some performance-enhancing technologies for the exterior and interior. There is also a new TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-new interior inspired by the classic 1971 Challenger.

The 2015 Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRTs are built at the Brampton, Ontario, Assembly Plant and will start arriving in Dodge dealerships in the third quarter of 2014.
