The seductive limited edition supersports car sold out months before official debut

Centenario Roadster has been finally revealed at “The Quail” during the weekend. There were no general surprises and the car is exactly what we have expected: an open top variant of the sensational coupe version. Just like the latter, the production of the roadster is also limited to 20 units, which have been already sold out, each priced at 1.75 million euros.

Both the coupe and the open-top variant are honoring the centenary of its founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini. These special commemorative series express at an ultimate level the freedom given to the designers in their task to create an open design with progressive characteristics. The essence of their work can be expressed with the motto “form follows function”, which is core to brand’s iconic DNA.

    Design

With clean forms and mono-body shape, made entirely from carbon fiber, the roadster is dressed in a special matte silver exterior paint finish, “Argento Centenario”, which further accentuates the curvaceous profile.

Lamborghini said that one of the core values of this car is that it features enhanced aerodynamic design, because of its extended rear wing and the mandatory rear-wheel steering. Hence there is more agility and stability at hand. Note that with a dry weight of just 1,570 kg (3,461 lbs), the Centenario achieves a weight-to-power ratio of 2.04 kg/hp.

Advanced aerodynamics are very important especially when it comes to open-top cars, so that the turbulence and air recirculation for the cabin passengers to be at its minimum. This optimal design and function is achieved with the implementation in the rear wall, in the back of the headrest.

Centenario runs on Pirelli PZero tyres, which were specifically developed for rear-wheel steering, and are coupled with 20”/21” front/rear forged rims. Even the spokes’ fan shape is accented in carbon fiber! An integrated rear diffuser defines the back of the car, and it is accompanied by the ‘Y’- shaped LED lights that stretch the full width of the rear.

On the inside, this Lambo features a luxurious cabin in light brown Alcantara Terra di California with Bianco Polar leather inlets. There is decorative stitching and piping and detailed cross-stitching on the seats, dashboard and rocker cover. The company has included new fully connected infotainment and innovative 10.1 inch touchscreen system that allows fast internet browsing and featuring Apple CarPlay.

    Power and performance

The V12 driving the Lambo is actually the most powerful engine produced by Lamborghini up to date. It produces 770 hp (566 kW) from 8,350 rpm to 8,600 rpm, which is enough to make the roadster accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in mere 2.9 seconds. The top speed is over 350 km/h. But more impressive is the braking capability of Centenario: from 100 the 0 km/h the car needs just 31m (102 feet) to fully stop.

Lamborghini’s new rear-wheel steering system dominates the model. It actually strengthens the three driving modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa, and in particular – the lateral dynamics. Maximum responsiveness and driver feedback is provided by Lamborghini’s magneto rheological suspension and Lamborghini Dynamic Steering (LDS). Faster gear shifting is ensured by the Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) gearbox.

At last, the Italian supercar brand announced that it will continue its strategy of producing one-off cars and exclusive limited editions like this one. So, what’s next Lamborghini?

Supercar company celebrates the Miura 50th Anniversary

It could be disputable, but probably the invention of the “Modern Supercar” is an acquisition of Lamborghini. It happened 50 years ago with the introduction of the legendary Miura at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, which is acclaimed to be one of the most beautiful car ever created. Despite you agree on this fact or not, the brand is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the model and it makes that with a very special premiere tomorrow.

The Italian supercar automaker will make a world premiere of the Centenario Roadster at The Quail tomorrow. Then, it will show the car at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 21st. Lamborghini is keeping the details scarce and didn’t wish to provide any image (even a teaser) to spice up the public.

However, the official data disclosed says that company’s newest super sports car will produce 770 horsepower, which is not a surprise, because it is nothing different from the Coupe variant. Just like the latter, the body and structure of the Roadster variant will be made entirely from carbon fiber. There is another similarity and it is the top speed, which is 350 km/h (217 mph). Since the Centenario Coupe is covering the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, we expect the Roadster to be a little bit slower.

There are exactly 40 Centenarios produced: 20 Coupes and 20 Roadsters, but unfortunately, they have been already sold out. Each has a price tag around $2 million dollars.Although we didn’t receive any image of the car, we found a great rendering made by the talented X-Tomi Design. • Lamborghini Centenario Takes Minds and Hearts at the Geneva Motor Show

Lamborghini Centenario Front ViewLamborghini Centenario is making its world debut at 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is a very special edition model, because it celebrates the centenary of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birth. The supersports car is built in only 20 coupé and 20 roadster versions, but they have been all already sold. If you ask about the starting price: it is 1.75 million euros.

With a typical aerodynamic design for Lamborghini, the car also includes extending rear wing which provides more downforce at high speeds. More importantly, the introduction of rear-wheel steering delivers better agility and stability, while the innovative touchscreen provides connected infotainment, including internet browsing and Apple CarPlay.

    The Power

Centenario is powered by a V12 engine, which produces 770 hp and catapults the car from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, and from 0-300 km/h in 23.5 seconds. The top speed is more than 350 km/h. Deceleration is incredible with braking happening from 100 km/h to standstill achieved in 30 meters. The model is based on a carbon fiber monocoque and body, thus ensuring low weight of 1,520 kg and a weight to power ratio of just 1.97 kg/hp.

    The Design

    Lamborghini Centenario Rear View

The mono-body shape of the Centenario measures 4.924 m length and 1.143 m height. At the front there are large air scoops helping the air to go through the car’s front contributing to downforce on the front axle. In addition, the air flows through ducts within the front headlight casing and others in the sideskirts and around the wheel arches. The roof too includes air scoops.

Gloss carbon fibre defines the whole body of the Centenario, including the front bonnet, scissor door panels and roof line. The irregular wheel arches are a typical Lamborghini feature and they have been accented in matt carbon fibre, emphasizing the aerodynamic design of the car. The wheel arches conceal Pirelli PZero tyres, developed specifically for the model, that are fitted with exclusive 20″/21″ front/rear rims in forged and milled aluminium. Behind them the carbon ceramic brakes are finished with a central-locking wheel nut.

At the rear, we see an integrated rear, ‘Y’-shaped rear lights above it, and the already mentioned extendable rear wing.

    The Interior

    Lamborghini Centenario Interior

The cabin of each Centenario has been made according to client’s specification. However, there are some similarities including the sports seats made of lightweight carbon fiber, the new stitching that features on the length of the dashboard, steering wheel, sunvisors, rocker covers, and the new inner door panels made of carbon fiber and Alcantara.

Some important technologies need to be mentioned here since they are essential: satellite navigation, a high definition 10.1 inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, sophisticated telemetry function and two optional interior cameras.

At last, the 20 coupés and 20 roadsters named Lamborghini Centenario are going to be delivered from autumn 2016 and throughout 2017. And since all 40 Centenario have been already sold, Geneva Motor Show might be your only chance of seeing the model.
