  • Vorsteiner Porsche 911 Carrera S Runs Faster With V-FF 101 Wheels?

Vorsteiner-911-Carrera-S-V-FF-101-THUMBAlthough the latest Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S debuted more than two years ago they are still desired object for customization. This time the responsible for the tuning are the fellows at Vorsteiner – a Californian based tuning company with a rather German name. We see from the beautiful pictures they have sent us, that Porsche’s original blue color is complemented by new wheels in very special color. In this way the car not only looks more sporty, but it definitely receives a shade of individuality.

Precisely, the most recent photo shoot that the company has made highlights the new V-FF 101 Flow Forged Wheels. They are lightweight and were specifically developed for the Porsche 991 Carrera S.

The eye-catching color of the wheels is called Carbon Graphit, while their dimensions are 20×8.5 at the front and 20×11 at the rear. Vorsteiner has used Standard Profile on the front and Concave Profile for the rear in order to advantage of Porsche’s original tire sizes. This means that the 245/35/20 tires at the front and 295/30/20 Pirelli tires at the rear are are rub-free even after a moderate drop.

2012 Porsche 911 Carrera is motivated by the 350-horsepower (261 kW) coming from the 3.4-liter boxer engine. On the other hand the Carrera S delivers 400 hp (298 kW) from 3.8-liter boxer engine. The acceleration time for the first from 0 to 100 km/h is estimated at 4.4 seconds, while the Carrera S covers this sprint in just 4.1 seconds.

The time for acceleration is further reduced to 3.9 seconds when 911 is equipped with the Sports Chrono Package Plus. Top-track-speeds for the 911 Carrera and Carrera S are 179 mph (288 km/h) and 188 mph (303 km/h), respectively.

  • Porsche Celebrates Fifty Years Of The Iconic 911 Model

Porsche-911-THUMBThe iconic Porsche 911 is celebrating 50 years being at the heart of the automotive industry as one of the most desirable cars. The model has served as an inspiration to car enthusiasts around the world since its debut as the 901 at the IAA International Automotive Show in Frankfurt, back in September 1963.

Furthermore, the emblematic 911 is considered as the central point of reference for all other Porsche series. This basically means that every Porsche is the most sporting automobile in its category, and each one carries a piece of the 911 philosophy.

Now, since 1963 over 820 000 Porsche 911’s have been built since 1963. Through these fifty years, seven generations have been created from this model. An example from each one of them will be present at the 2013 Festival of Speed.

What is more, thanks to the support of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, and private collectors and enthusiasts, a number of significant editions of the 911 are set to be in action at the Goodwood. Further examples of significant Porsche competition cars including the 356, 908, 917 and 962 are also anticipated.

Another interesting fact, with which the brand is to celebrate the anniversary, is that the 1967 model 911 is going to be sent to Goodwood as part of a world tour. This particular model will it visit Pebble Beach, California, as well as China, France, and Australia.

In addition to all this, the Porsche Museum will be marking the “50 years of the Porsche 911” with a special exhibition from 4 June to 29 September. Morover, even Goodwood is honouring the versatile sports cars with a bespoke 911-inspired sculpture that promises to be a highly distinctive “art installation”.

  • Porsche 911 – Best Performance Car of 2012

2012-Porsche-911-Carrera-thumbA bit of trivia from the New York International Auto Show: the Porsche 911, the seventh one, has been named the 2012 World Performance Car. The news came at a press conference held by Bridgestone Corporation. There were other 33 contenders involved.

This annual award is usually presented after a careful assessment of the participants by 66 top-level automotive journalists from 25 countries around the world A.K.A an international jury. Each juror is typycally experienced in test driving, reviewing and evaluating outgoing models and are quite renown for it basically.

“We are honored that the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S was chosen by this distinguished group of jurors as the 2012 World Performance Car,” said Detlev von Platen, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “For just the seventh time in almost 50 years the iconic 911 has been revised to the point of being a new-generation, and winning this award from a global team of world-class journalists is excellent validation for the work and dedication of everyone at Porsche.”

The 2012 Porsche 911 is naturally, longer, wider, lower, more powerful and more efficient than its predecessor. Two variations of it deliver different amounts of power – the Carrera’s 3.5-liter boxer engine leaves you with 350 hp while the Carrera S gets 400 hp from its 3.8-liter unit. The choice of transmission for both cars, leaves you with two options – A seven-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed dual-clutch Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) automatic. With the latter one, the Carrera gets from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds while the S needs only 3.9 seconds.

The interior is mainly driver oriented – no distractions and no needless features. Well, there is a radio. Leg room is now up the priority ladder as well and the center console is elevated so that its on an easy reach distance from the driver.

The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price for the 2012 Carrera stands at $82,100 and for the S is $96,400 (base models, $950 destination charge not included)

P.S. – News about this latest award come shortly after the passing of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – a mournful day for the automotive industry. Grandson of Porsche’s found, Prof. Ferdinand was head of the Porsche design studio in the early sixties when and where the iconic profile of the 911 was born. At the time of his death he was 76 but his contribution to the world is to remain timeless. Our hearts go out to his friends and relatives.

  • SpeedART SP91-R Porsche 991 Carrera

SpeedArt-Porsche-991-Carrera-thumbNews from the German tuner house SpeedART. It’s an update on their SP91-R project. As we all know by now, the subject is the latest 911/991 Carrera S (Porsche is sort of their turf) – fresh yet grunty, slippery and stylish it has all there is to have when it comes to performance customization.

When it comes to power, ECU upgrades and calibration are to be available for both the Carrera and Carrera S engines – that means a projected power increase of 25 hp and 20 Nm. On the other hand. the sport exhaust system, complete with sport-catalysts and manifolds, seems to do the trick. One can fit an optional sound switch function so that, at the very least, people can be fooled into thinking that 911 is even meaner and leaner. The tailpipes come in several different versions so that the owner is presented with as much flexibility of choice as possible. Hardcore enthusiasts will most definitely prefer the Titanium sport exhaust system which reduces the overall weight.

The suspension can be both street or racetrack friendly. It will harbour sports springs and sports absorbers with adjustable rebound and height. A separate air-lift module on the other hand will provide some clearance for that dragging SP91-R body kit when passing over a speed hump.

Yes, there will be a full body overhaul – front lip spoilers, diffusers, side skirts, rear wings… the lot. Everything is made to fit perfectly and seamlessly to the standard mounts.

For a complete look, the Carrera rolls on a set of specially designed modular LSC- FORGED 21-inch wheels – again light and agile, great for the overall performance.

Inside, what e find particularity fresh is the lime shades. The blue, contrasting stitching and the diamond patterns it forms, might be a bit too much but everything else is spot on – leather/Alcantra on the seats, dashboard etc. It’s a keeper.

  • 2012 Geneva Motor Show: Gemballa GT Porsche 991 Carrera

Gemballa-GT-Porsche-991-Carrera-thumbGemballa do not think that the latest Porsche 991 Carrera needs a performance boost. After all, it has a 340hp 3.4 liter flat six power plant that provides an electric enough feel. And if there is anything that can get close to the mighty GT3, it’s the Carrera S version that has a 3.8 liter, 400hp engine. What I’m trying to say is that the latest “designpackage” from Gemballa for the Carrera is strictly visual. At this point we have a few aerodynamic features, new wheels and a sonorous arrangement (exhaust pipes).

Gemballa CEO, Andreas Schwarz, explains: “Creating an even more individual appearance for this iconic sports car is a natural step for Gemballa, and we are proud to present our GT package for the new Carrera.”

The body kit consists of “made in Germany” type carbon fitments – a front bumper, a rear one and some side skirts. Everything is designed to fit perfectly to the standard mounting points of the car. Installing them requires no cutting or grinding so the return to stock components is quite feasible.

Gemballa have also provided four 21-inch wheels that are just a little bit lighter than the standard 19-inch ones on the Carrera and quite a lot lighter than the 20-inch set on the Carrera S.

“Lowering the unsprung weight despite going up a wheel size was a priority,” said Schwarz.

Eventually, we reach a point where we have to talk about pipes. About all six of them. The Gemballa exhaust system helps the engine with the breathing and the singing.

  • SpeedART SP91-R

speedART-991-thumbSpeedART, the German tuning house are now promoting their latest product: SP91-R sounds like a Windows update but it actually is a performance kit for the new 911/991 Carrera S. The package is due to come in March during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show but one can tell that SpeedART are eager to share with what exactly is SP91-R

Lets start off with the power – 911’s usually do not fall short of it but SpeedART have decided to throw in a bit more just to be safe. An ECU upgrade and a modified exhaust system that includes sporty catalysts and manifolds results in a  25hp/20nm power increase. Driving enthusiasts can  go with the “very light” Titanium sport exhaust systems while underaged customers can also opt for a  sound switch function on the pipes for that extra grunt and character.

    SpeedArt Porsche 991 (2012)
    SpeedArt Porsche 991 (2012)

Aerodynamic tunes include an SP91-R bodykit. The one shown here is the subtle version of the wider and more aggressive one planned for the Geneva Motor Show. The new CS-rear wing is crafted in a way so to fit perfectly on the original stock 991 Carrera one. The whole kit seamlessly clips on to the already existing design line yet it gives the Porsche a completely new feel.

Inside, a feast of Alcantra and leather unravels itself as we notice the sporty steering wheel and the flappy-paddle shifters which complete the picture

Other modifications see “modular LSC- FORGED” wheels added which come in sizes 20” and 21”.  A modified suspension set up will improve track behaviour and with the addition of an airlift system for rising and lowering the nose, urban environments will also be tackled.

  • Testing the 2012 Porsche Carrera 911 [video]

Porsche has released an interesting video clip in YouTube, where they show how the new 911 model was developed.

The 2012 Carrera 911 comes with -new 7-speed manual gearbox. It is tested in extreme weather conditions from South Africa to Arctic Circle to show the quality of materials of the famous sports model. The new model is known the 991.

“One may ask, why a car must operate under conditions most owners would never dream of living in, let alone driving in. The reason is simple. Porsche is adamant in believing the measure of a Porsche is its ability to perform just as well here, as it would on a German autobahn, interstate highway in the U.S. or anywhere else a car’s owner might be. This is the Porsche standard.”

  • 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet

Great news for Porsche lovers: The new 911 Carrera Cabriolet with innovative folding roof makes a debut.

The latest convertible edition of 911 Carrera is on sale in March 2012. What’s new about this edition is that the new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet offers sporting drivers the option to enjoy the renowned dynamic qualities and iconic design of the 911 Coupe combined with the added versatility and driving pleasure offered by its folding convertible roof.

The 911 Cabriolet has a high tech aluminium steel body with the Coupe, and the convertible extends this innovation to its all new, unique hood. This new Porsche offers an intelligent lightweight design, including the use of magnesium in the hood frame. It also ensures reduced weight for increased responsiveness, lower fuel consumption and greater comfort. The innovation here, and I am sure you’ll love it, is that the brand new Coupe model, is significantly lighter overall than it’s the former one.

And that is not all. The newbie 911 Cabriolet models have a longer wheelbase, wider front track and the new electro mechanical power. This of course is made to ensure the open-roofed models. The compact footprint on the other hand is accomplished by the shortening of the front and rear overhangs. Furthermore, there are additional standard or optional active control systems, for the overall improvement of the driving dynamics.

    2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet
    2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet

And for those who still like the classic look of the Porsche, I have to assure you that the new 911 Cabriolet models offer the same charismatic line-up of rear-mounted, flat-six engines as the Coupé equivalents of the benchmark sportscar. What is impressive is that the 911 Carrera Cabriolet features a 3.4-litre engine generating 350 hp (257 kW). With it the driving of the rear wheels are taken through a 7-speed manual transmission. More to come: you cannot underestimate the fact The Carrera S Cabriolet offers a 3.8-litre engine developing 400 hp (294 kW). It is also coupled to a 7-speed manual transmission as standard. Therefore the open-top 911 models share the characteristic efficiency for which the 911 is very well known!

And if you want to experience even lower fuel consumption and shorter acceleration time, the choice is only the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet (which for that sake offers the 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch transmission as an option).

The starting sale-date for the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet models is March 3 2012. But this goes only for the lucky people in the United Kingdom. There the 911 Carrera Cabriolet is priced from £79 947, and the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet – from £89 740.

All customers will have the opportunity to explore the potential of their new car by participating in a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone. And to make it even better Porsche has given a thought about the security of the automobile: fitted to every 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), which is a sophisticated vehicle security package approved to Thatcham Category 5 standard.
