New state-of-the-art wind tunnel helps shape efficient Volvo cars
One of the world’s most advanced wind tunnels is Volvo’s new tool in the quest to lower fuel consumption and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Volvo Car Corporation is the first car manufacturer to own a wind tunnel that fully simulates the airflow around and underneath the car’s body, combined with wheel rotation on a flat road surface. The new Volvo C30, S40 and V50 1.6D DRIVe – with CO2 emissions of 115 and 118 g/km
At Paris Motor Show in early October, Volvo Cars is presenting economical new diesel variants of the C30, S40 and V50 models with fuel consumption of just 4.4 litres/100 km (C30) or 4.5 litres/100 km (S40 and V50). The corresponding CO2 figures of 115 and 118 g/km mean that the C30 and V50 have best-in-class CO2 emissions in their segments. All three models – the C30, S40 and V50 – are equipped with a special set of efficiency-enhancing features and marked with the DRIVe emblem to signal their uprated environmental properties. (more…) -
Marie Karlsson won a Volvo C30 of her own design
Volvo Cars Swedish sales company, Volvo Personbilar Sverige, contest “Design your own Volvo C30” attracted a record number of contestants. Nearly 6,000 people submitted entries. The winner was 23-year-old Marie Karlsson, engineer from Vetlanda, Sweden. She will receive a Volvo C30 1.8F in the “dream pattern” Weeds. This spring’s Volvo C30 campaign, featuring patterned cars, has also given sales of this model a boost. (more…) -

Ward’s AutoWorld magazine once again acknowledged Volvo for superior car interior design. The Volvo C30 earned Ward’s Interior Design Award for Best Brand Reflection. Last year, Ward’s named the Volvo S80 winner of the Best Interior Design of the Year Award. -
Smooth Powershift gearbox cuts fuel consumption by 8 percent in the Volvo C30, S40 and V50
The two-litre turbodiesel version of the Volvo C30, S40 and V50 is now also available with a fully-automatic transmission.
This new Powershift transmission is a six-speed unit and it significantly cuts fuel consumption compared with a conventional automatic transmission.“According to our calculations, Powershift contributes to a fuel consumption saving of about eight percent compared with a conventional automatic transmission,” says Magnus Jonsson, Senior Vice President, Research & Development, Volvo Cars.
