  • Toyota C-HR Prologue Concept

The Paris Motor Show in October 2014 was the first signal that Toyota was preparing to launch a whole new genre of vehicle within the C-Segment. It was there that the world discovered the “Toyota C-HR concept”. Just a little over two years later, this concept would become a reality. With the C-HR, Toyota was releasing a car that wasn’t willing to compromise, and that wasn’t afraid to stand out, just like the people who would drive it.

In 2022, a new challenge was set: how to take Toyota C-HR to an even higher level? How to bring new amazement and delight to those who already know and love Toyota C-HR for its audacity, provocation, and fun?

Introducing the Toyota C-HR prologue. A demonstration that Toyota is going to deliver all of this. And more.

    A European Development Story

The current Toyota C-HR was born at ED², Toyota’s European Design Development headquarters in the South of France. It is also at ED² that the new Toyota C-HR prologue would come to life. The challenge for ED² was clear, though ambitious: to surpass what they had already achieved.

“Our mission was to dig deep, to go further than we’d ever gone before. We’re really looking forward to delivering our new Toyota C-HR.” Lance Scott, Design Director/Co-Gerant Toyota European Design Development (ED2)

    The future is coming.

Toyota C-HR prologue is a first – but very real – vision of a car that will soon be turning heads on roads all around Europe. Much more than a simple concept, 2022 Toyota C-HR prologue makes very clear that Toyota is staying true to what made Toyota C-HR such a success. An outstanding car is ready to get even more attention.

    Still a Rebel…with extra sophistication

One glance at the Toyota C-HR prologue shows that the car has stayed true to its original DNA. But something has clearly been added for the next generation.

Still bold, still perhaps polarizing, Toyota C-HR prologue presents a more sophisticated expression of audacity. As provocative as always, and just as much fun, Toyota C-HR prologue demonstrates a dichotomy of qualities rarely found in a single car. Bigger wheels with shorter overhangs enhance the stance from all points of view. At the same time, while the Toyota C-HR prologue increases its feeling of sportiness, it also increases its practical roominess inside.

    Surfacing both precise and organic

2022 Toyota C-HR prologue forgoes static lines to express a subtly changing movement from sharp to fluid. Precision organic design language developed from two seemingly opposing values cause surfaces to reshape and flow. This high dynamic range takes the contrast between fluidity and sharpness to a level never seen before. While, at the same time, the high character lines are simplified to emphasize refinement.  By allowing surfaces to express both organic movement and extreme precision, the Toyota C-HR prologue becomes at once exceptionally modernistic and yet still with an approachable human touch.

    A face to remember

The HAMMERHEAD face is part of a 3D architecture achieved with interlocking shapes and a bold lighting signature. Grill apertures shrink in size, while headlamps slim down to accentuate the high-tech identity. Toyota C-HR has a forward look as keen and piercing as a shark, and just as ready to surge forward. The same interlocking theme continues through the whole diamond-cut, rotating and intersecting body, creating two interlocking shapes that accentuate the car’s presence.

Before there was bi-tone. And now…

Toyota C-HR prologue brings a third colour accent of sulphur over a metal silver and recycled carbon black. From the very outset, it was designed to stand out in a tri-colour option. And stand out it does.

Extended electrified line-up with efficient hybrid and Dual DNA Plug in Hybrid

Toyota C-HR prologue is also demonstrating Toyota’s commitment to carbon neutrality bringing a wider electrification offer for the largest & most competitive market segment in Europe: C-SUV. The new Plug-in Toyota C-HR with European assembled batteries, in addition to the hybrid version will further strengthen Toyota’s multi-technology line-up.

  • Toyota wins prestigious award at the BestCar event!

2019 Toyota BestCar Award Toyota has managed to earn double success in the Auto Trader New Car Awards with honors for both C-HR crossover and Hilux pickup.

The first one, C-HR was named the Best Car for City Drivers, while our all-time favorite Hilux took the title of Best Pickup. As usual, the decision was made by the toughest judges in the format – UK motorists themselves.

As it comes to C-HR, owners gave their cars the highest marks for the convenience and performance required for around-town driving, while Hilux owners have loved the overall reliable performance and off-road capabilities of the massive Hilux.

C-HR features Toyota Safety Sense as standard and is geared with active safety systems, which can warn and help preventing numerous collision risks in around-town driving. Furthermore, the high driving position gives a commanding all-round view, while manoeuvring in tight places is made easier with the Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Simple Intelligent Park Assist.

  • Toyota and the TNGA architecture: it slowly becomes a trend. But a good one!

2017 Toyota C-HRArchitecture in vehicles. Yes, this again. I know it has become something as a trend, but stick with me. Toyota is the next big player to incorporate signature body architecture in its vehicles and as it seems, the team tries to stand out from the crowd pretty hard. So, let’s check out what’s the idea of the masterminds behind Toyota.

    2017 Toyota C-HR

Both latest generations of Prius and C-HR will be dealing with a thing called Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and the idea is that these two vehicles open the gates to a world of Toyota vehicles based solely on this platform. The TNGA thing itself will try to redefine the approach towards vehicle manufacturing and driving utility.

Our thoughts about the latest Prius you can find on this link

The TNGA C-Platform thing that debuted with the latest Prius allows for tailor-made changes to be executed, along with optimized drivetrain system and more precisely super-optimized and fine-tuned suspension system. It also adapts the wheelbase to better handling and responsiveness. Sweet.

Of course, the whole idea is to deliver new breed of models that are not only super-adaptive and featuring cutting-edge technologies, but also offer better handling response, consistency of response and delivering way more confidence for the driver. Furthermore, one of the main benefits of the TNGA C-platform is the lower center of gravity. This directly contributes to better handling, more stable turning and less body roll.

    So, is it worth it?

    2017 Toyota C-HR

TNGA platform is claimed to be 65 per cent more rigid than the previous C-segment platform. It provides solid base for developing and tuning the suspension system, all along with numerous engine components. Also, as it seems, the new C-HR and its owners feel happy and confident on the road. So, we do presume that this is a step in the right direction for Toyota. But let’s be clear about it: time will show whether this is a cheap trick or a revolutionary in the history of the brand.

  • Toyota reveals first images and details about C-HR’s interior

Toyota C-HR side viewToyota applies new “sensual tech” design philosophy for the first time

Toyota C-HR remains remarkably true to the concept car that it is based on. Revealed back in 2015, the experimental SUV attracted widespread public acclaim at motor shows in Paris and Frankfurt. It is therefore no surprise that Toyota streamed the C-HR into a production variant. Now you can take a look at the emotional interior design it has as the Japanese brand is releasing the first images of the cabin. But before we jump into details, we must say that this SUV is very special for Toyota, since it represents its determination to allow greater stylistic freedom and promote engineering creativity. Nods for that!

In short, the cabin looks contemporary and original, and reflects what Toyota is calling the new “sensual tech” design philosophy. The goal of the latter is to combine high-tech functionality with a modern style.

The interior is spacious and creates a sense for airiness through the layered architecture of the instrument panel that continues through to the door trim via stylish ornamentation and a piano black panel. Speaking of the instrument panel, it will feature a 6.1-inch touch-screen and Toyota says that it will be more functional and easier to reach and the same is promised for the center console.

The design of the seats, door trims, headliner and even the needles of the driver’s analogue instrument dials feature diamond scheme; while the other decorative elements are finished in high-quality piano black and satin silver.

Customers will have the option of purchasing features like the pre-collision system with autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering control, automatic high beam and a reversing camera as well as heated seats, smart entry and start system, privacy glass, 18-inch alloy wheels and bi-tone metallic paintwork.

By the way, Toyota is making the link between interior and exterior via the addition of diamond-shaped switches, which reflect the diamond motif of the body shell. Speaking of which…

    Some words about the exterior

    Toyota C-HR rear view

Why the Toyota C-HR is unique? The answer is that it demonstrates the flexibility of the “Toyota New Global Architecture”. The SUV is positioned between the Corolla hatch and the RAV4, measuring 4350mm in length, 1795mm in width and 1550mm in height. The wheelbase is 2640mm.

The diamond architectural theme of the exterior is probably one of the most impressive designs we have seen on a production car lately. With its prominent and edgy wheel arches, the C-HR leaves the impression of strength and rigidity. The combination of a lowered body and raised ground clearance results in a slim and sleek coupe-like profile.

And there are two powertrain options

At last, we should mention that the C-HR will be offered as a hybrid as well as a full petrol vehicle. If one opts for the first variant, he or she will get the latest-gen hybrid powertrain with 120 hp (90 kW). The other option is the 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit, delivering 114 hp (85kW) and 185 Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a Continuously Variable Transmission. The latter features front or all-wheel drive.
