  • Driving the BMW M4 better with some help from BILSTEIN

    BILSTEIN BMW M4 front view

This beautiful BMW M4 has received some special attention from the specialist at BILSTEIN. They have announced the release of brand new DampTronic shock absorbers and suspensions for M4. The good news is that both are also suitable for the M3. Both models share the same 431 HP biturbo inline six-cylinder engine is perfectly paired with the suspension.

However, the sporty top line models from the 3 Series and 4 Series are equipped with entirely different axle design. So, adding to the standard suspension, customers can also choose the adaptive M suspension. What it does is to adapt to the current road conditions within the blink of the eye.

BILSTEIN have developed the new shock absorber, so that it can ensure the driving remains enjoyable after many miles of exploitation. In fact, there are various types of shock absorbers, starting with the B4 DampTronic, the stronger B6 DampTronic and the high-end coilover suspension B16 DampTronic. Another advantage that they have is that they can be added effortlessly over the factory-installed active suspension.

To go into details, the B6 DampTronic mono-tube gas-pressure shock absorbers add more damping force than the B4, performance and durability. In addition, the vehicles with the adaptive M suspension can be equipped with the BILSTEIN B16 DampTronic. Its advantage is that it has a tenfold adjustment option of bump and rebound stage.

  • Got an old Volvo XC60? Here’s three ways of improving its suspension

    BILSTEIN Volvo XC60 side view

Volvo began the production of the XC60 eight years ago. Ever since that starting point, the SUV still remains highly popular for the strength, durability and comfortability it offers. Bu the way, exactly this model has been awarded several times for being the “best-selling premium SUV in Europe”, including in 2015.

In June, Polestar Performance has offered an optimization for the new generation of Volvo XC60. It also made an improvement to other five key areas: throttle response, gearshift hold, agility, speed and overall more aggressive on-road behavior.

Besides these good news for the future XC60 customers, many owners of older model variants, which have a lot of miles on the clock, requiring shock absorbers to be replaced in many cases. Often people want to upgrade to a sportier handling feel, too. For these two reasons, BILSTEIN have developed different spare parts and upgrade options for the Volvo XC60. This includes substitution of conventional parts and improvement of the standard parts.

Precisely, there are three suspension kits B4, B6 and B12. The first one is gas-pressure shock absorber, which makes sure that there is maximum safety through high performance reserves, constant damping under any load, high traction and precise handling.

The B6 damper on the other hand is the one offering better quality and providing optimum performance and comfort through added damping and an extremely long service life. At last, the B12 complete suspension system offers the perfect combination of sporty dynamics, impressive design and highly durable performance. But there’s a reason behind this: it has been developed during driving tests in cooperation with springs manufacturer Eibach.

  • Are you ready for the MINI Challenge? Bilstein is!

Bilstein MINI John Cooper Works F56 front viewIt is not a secret (but maybe a surprise) that the MINI models, especially from the John Cooper Works heritage are a motorsport talent. And this has been proven in history many times. In fact, with the landmark win at the legendary Rally Monte Carlo in 1964, the little car has shut the mouths of those unbelieving in its potential.

Believe it or not, Bilstein (yes, the shock-absorbers guys) has been for a long time present in the “Monte history”. Even before the success of the MINI. The manufacturer had already equipped the Mercedes-Benz 220 SE with gas-pressure shock absorbers for the legendary rally in 1960. And back in the days these were still a rather recent high-tech invention! The result: a sensational triple win!

So why not mixing the MINI with Bilstein? The MINI Challenge in Italy, which has started yesterday, will be the proof for the success of this endeavour. But even more surprising is that this collaboration is not new. The last year, the one-make series ran with technical components from the B16 PSS10 coilover suspension with road approval, fitted to the old MINI model R56!

At the moment, the little guy on spot is the three-door MINI F56 John Cooper Works. Its suspension has also received another serious upgrade: Modular Damper System (MDS) designed by Bilstein exclusively for motorsports. The configuration is the following: 2-way adjustment for the front axle and a 1-way system for the rear axle, each with variable compression and rebound stages. The configuration is also in harmony with the new aerodynamics package which delivers great level of downforce.

We can’t wait to hear about the results. We will keep you posted.

  • Subaru WRX STI by Bilstein races through all corners better than before

Subaru WRX STI by Bilstein side viewIt is well known that Subaru WRX STI is one of the performance road-legal masters of our time. Being an automotive icon (literally) it has been featured on many racing games so that any one could drive it, although virtually. Those who are lucky to have driven it say that on a real country road, the WRX STI is behaving even more fun than in the virtual world or on the real streets. Fitted with the obligatory all-wheel drive and the powerful turbo boxer engine, the car almost seams unbeatable.

However, the team at Bilstein found ways to improve further the racy car by making simple changes. The decision made was to add the OE series of the in-house made gas-pressure shock absorbers. As the professionals say, they have a substantial influence on the handling of the car.

What is more, the suspension specialists from Germany have also shown that things can be a little bit sportier. As an upgrade or as a substitution of worn shock absorbers, the BILSTEIN B6 gas-pressure shock absorber is the perfect choice. Many who have tried it say that it is “better than original”. The reason – it is delivering more damping force, thus enhancing the performance, comfort and durability. And this happens even on poor road conditions and with heavy loads.

For those keen on being closer to the ground, the WRX STI could be equipped with Bilsetin’s B8 gas-pressure shock absorbers added to the in-house made lowering springs. By the way, the secret behind these shock absorbers is that they have been specially shortened with a main focus on a harmonious overall package. This also improves handling.

The last two options are for those who really love racing unstoppably. Precisely, the B12 Pro-Kit complete suspension features tuned springs and shock absorbers, while the B16 coilover suspension provides full adjustable lowering from 15 to 25 millimetres and a ten-fold adjustment option for bump and rebound stage.

On a Monday mornings coilovers and suspension seem a reasonable topic to discuss.

  • Bilstein Builds Captain America’s Car Based on Fiat 500 Cinquone

Bilstein Fiat 500 Cinquone USA Front ViewIf you have ever wondered if Captain America had a car what it would be, then we have the answer. And it is the newest tuning project of the specialist at Bilstein. Maybe you’d be surprised at what car they have actually chosen, but we assure you that the result looks just great. As a basis the tuning experts worked on the Fiat 500 from Romeo Ferraris.

The exterior is in the spirit of the Avenger superhero: it features stars and stripes on the bonnet as well as on the boot. Painted in white, this car seem like it has fought beside the famous hero, because all over its exterior it has worn out elements, which of course have been made on purpose.

The harmonious outfit of the Fiat 500 is continued via multispoke alloy wheels painted in the famous blue color, inspired by the costume of Captain America. They were shod with low profile tires. What we can’t see however is the most interesting part of the tuning of this unique Cinquone USA.

Underneath the bonnet, the unit of this mini vehicle has been uprated and it now achieves 210 horsepower. This turns the muscular little city car from Romeo Ferraris into an exceptional fast experience.

Other unique features in the project include the centaur on the radiator grille and Bilstein’s B14 coilover suspension. The latter turns the “shorty” into a hero. Inverted Mono-tube and gas-pressure technology are also two features which need to be highlighted.

Bilstein Fiat 500 Cinquone USA will be on display at the 14th Tuning World Bodensee Show, which will take place in Germany between 5th and 8th of May.
